Now that we're through the corebook for C20, other supplements seem like small (but no less nourishing) potatoes. This time around is a double feature: we're flipping through Yours to Keep, the jumpstart and intro adventure for the edition, and Ready-Made Characters, a set of 13 write-ups (one for each core kith) and sample motleys to use in your game. Joining us is author of the first book, Christine Beard!, who talks about some of the process for reading, running, and writing jumpstart modules like this one. The two supplements feature some solid material to get you into the game beyond the corebook proper, so we encourage you to have a listen and hear what's what...! Surely you didn't think we were going to leave you all completely hanging during our summer hiatus...? Granted, this is only a mini-sode, but we hope it still serves a pleasant tidbit in between are larger installments. On this occasion, we are exploring the (general) World of Darkness supplement, The Bygone Bestiary, full of all your folklore-steeped medieval-and-Renaissance creature needs. The book claims that it can be fairly easily integrated with Werewolf, Mage, or Changeling, but in practice, it's more of a Mage: the Sorcerer's Crusade book. We are nevertheless giving our best effort to talk about how you could use this for Changeling. A system for building chimera, examples of interesting lore for common creatures, ideas for bringing actual mythic beasts into the Autumn World... the possibilities, if not endless, are at the very least intriguing. The book is available on the Storytellers Vault at: https://www.storytellersvault.com/product/50?affiliate_id=3063731 Herewith also a shout-out to our sister podcast, Mage: the Podcast, whose episode on the book can be heard at: https://magethepodcast.com/tomes-of-magick-bygone-bestiary/. We'll be the first to admit that the Southern US is not our primary field of expertise, and to point out that TTRPG books—especially some of the 90s White Wolf ones—are not the greatest resource for learning more. That being said, the Kingdom of Willows supplement on the Kithain realm of the same name, covering that part of the world, is one of the more robust entries in the canon. It has its curiosities, and it has its cringes, but few Changeling books can match it for density. This week, we're talking about its usefulness for running games set in that part of the world and its approach to detailing the setting, as well as its crucial role in advancing the metaplot for 2nd edition. (We also fly through the seventy pages or so of NPC biographies at breakneck speed, because those things were lengthy.) Ideas are edition-agnostic, so BK and Wendell pillage Vampire Fifth Edition for concepts and strategies that can improve game-play and communication at the table. From V5, we borrow Convictions, Ambition & Desire, Chronicle Tenets, and Coterie Types to offer new perspectives on character and story creation. If you've ported ideas between editions, drop the crew a line at midnightexpresspodcast@gmail.com, or comment on one of the Facebook posts. Our Iron Lanterns are hung from the shop door - we're open for business with another episode; this time illuminating the hidden lore of the Pardoners Guild in Wraith: the Oblivion. At first we tackle the seeming setting inconsistency of Guild legality and legitimacy in post-Breaking Stygian society, and offer advice for players and Storytellers who grapple with this part of the lore. Rose and BK poke their lanterns into every corner of the book, discussing the cult-like nature of the Guild, the role of quasi-religious foundations implied by the Guild, and how to use the many plot hooks presented in these pages. BK may also become a little too attached to the Angst Battery - one of the Pardoners' greatest secrets. The episode begins with a chat about Terry's recent publication 'Ascension's Landscape' and some his decision-making around describing 'the world of darkness', and communicating it to players. Hello All! We've been off the wires and out of commission for a while. Simon and Victor circled up and are sad to say that we don't have the time or energy to produce 2 episodes a month anymore. So the show as you all knew it is effectively complete. But FEAR NOT! We are still working on a number of projects, and this interview is the first sneak peek at that work. Victor wrote a Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Chronicle Jumpstart for the Storyteller's Vault! If you want to hear what this fever dream is all about (seriously who writes a module for Mage, is that even a thing?) come listen to Simon throw Victor in the hot seat and ask what he was even thinking. You'll also find out a few details about some upcoming projects with the Walking Away From Arcadia imprint. Future work will get back to the Dreaming where it belongs, and there may just be a few more conversations to go along with these coming texts. We hope you'll all stick around to see what we're up to. You can pickup a copy of A Phoenix Rising on The Storyteller's Vault.

BK is joined by Rachel who has worked with By Night Studios and is the author behind Rose City By Night (among other Storyteller Vault titles) in an experimental episode. Over the course of the episode, they design and develop a Changeling: the Dreaming chronicle set in the 'happiest place on earth' exploring the urban myths, and seedier side of a once-magical place. Topics such as giving characters choice, designing antagonists, placing meaningful NPCs, cross-over potential, and developing engaging locations are all covered as the free-flowing conversation applies a World of Darkness lens to the theme park. The universal need for Storytellers to be given 'a hug and a cup of tea' is also discussed. We also mentioned Veil of Night (for Vampire), and the website Behind the Name. Make sure that you check out Rachel's work; she can also be found on Twitter via @Stolen_Fire In Episode 43, BK will draw an interview episode from the archives, bringing it under the Midnight Express banner, and Episode 44 features Darling_Rose as we discuss approaches to the World of Darkness worldview. Note that Midnight Express Productions continues to offer titles through the Storytellers Vault, currently covering Vampire, Werewolf, and Mage - with new titles slated for release across October. Hosts: BK and Rachel.

What is this, some sort of joke? Mike and Chigg present a humorous episode on H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, exploring four of his short stories in an extra long secret frequency. This episode also includes some super out-dated news from 2017, blasphemous rumors, and a compelling analysis of Boston game stores. Despite high power government jamming, reducing audio quality to one quarter, Mike and Chigg start up the Secret Frequency once more. They diseminate critical storyteller information about pirate radio stations, historical cases of broadcast signal intrusion, and finally, the Toynbee Tiles. Stay tuned for Part 1, coming soon. Josh Heath of High Level Games joins the show to find out if the Red Talons are right, and humanity needs to be purged. Refining their resumes, Josh and BK start hunting around the business world of Pentex and the subsidiaries from the book of the same name. From King Breweries, to Magadon, to Avalon Toys, the duo not only disassemble the business practices that make these companies so effective, but also pose potential story ideas for your chronicles. Whilst the phrase 'the Litany says I get to kill everyone' is used at least once, most of the ideas are pitched at creating tension and deeper exploration of corruption in Werewolf: the Apocalypse. We also discuss Josh's contributions to The Storyteller's Vault (check them out and support a fellow listener), and revisit some of the price point discussions from a previous episode. If you want to see a group playing one of his modules, look no further. Lastly, check out the High Levels Games Convention that will be happening later this year. Mike and Chris are joined by Tobias Sjögren and Martin Ericsson of White Wolf Entertainment to discuss the past two years of growth for the World of Darkness and Chronicles of Darkness. The White Wolf discusses ideas for the future, immorality in Vampire: the Masquerade, violence in Werewolf: the Apocalypse, and belief and cosmology in Mage: the Ascension. The interview finishes up with a discussion of how to respect the uniqueness of the Chronicles of Darkness, particularly Vampire: the Requiem, hints at the future of Exalted, and even leaves some tantalizing remarks about Big Eyes, Small Mouth, and Silver Age Sentinels.
