There are so many ways technologies, especially cell phones and apps are pushed into the lives of parents. From church youth group communication to homework to friend networking, kids today almost need access to apps and cell phones at younger ages to participate in life. Is this a good rhythm, and if this is happening it begs the question for many parents, when is it best to get kids a cell phone? New groups are coming out demanding a halt on the mass distribution of devices, but Dr. Kathy has some support for parents who are looking to keep their kids eyes up from screens and to have a better sense of how to use technology without allowing technology to use you. She also provides some important insight on how to build in conversations so kids aren't going this digital world alone.

How many times have you told your kids to put down their phones and pay attention to something? How many times could someone else have said the same thing to you?In this episode, we're chatting with two tech founders – Chris Kaspar and Heath Wilson – about how they're using entrepreneurial initiatives to redeem technology and help us better focus on the things that matter.Chris does this through his company, Techless, and their “Wisephone,” a beautifully-designed, highly-functional phone that gives you everything you need and nothing you don't. Heath does it through “Aro” a platform that's helping families put down their phones and be fully present. They join us today to talk about the particular challenges entrepreneurs face with technology and how they're uniquely positioned to solve them. Let's dive in.
God in Tech Just before the advent of the smartphone, it was reported that former US Education Secretary Bill Bennet said, “America is rapidly becoming the kind of nation that civilized nations send missionaries to.” For those who heard Mr. Bennett's comment, it would have been hard for them to believe the kind of changes that would occur in America over the next 15 years. Smartphones have become a cultural change agent and maybe have even broken down the American Dream and culture. Those change agents seem to have gotten the drop on those who would otherwise use the internet for good. As we head into Easter it's a good time to ask the question, “does scripture have anything pertinent to say about the digital age and technology that we now have to navigate as parents?” Discussing Tech with Chris Kaspar Chris Kaspar is the founder of Techless an innovative tech start-up that created Wisephone- a pure and simple phone for intentional people. Chris is married to Ciera and is the fun dad of four beautiful daughters. Chris and Ciera have been foster parents for a handful of kids and they live for a deeper purpose. Episode Highlights: How are the 7 deadly sins related to tech? What is the purpose of Techless? What is God's purpose for technology? How does Chris define technology? What Biblical passages does Chris offer to parents? Image from Canva

There's a really good chance your child has asked you to get them a smartphone. My first conversation was with my oldest child when he was in kindergarten. His classmate had one and used it to play games during the school day. Whatever age you child, this conversation is fraught with big emotions, a predictable “but everyone else has one” argument, and the difficulty as a parent of threading the needle between being intentional and being out of touch with reality. It's not easy, and today's conversation will walk through the research and practice that will help inform our decisions, as well as practical steps we can take to help get our children on the road to eventual (if delayed) digital independence.Resources:Addiction By Design: Machine Gambling In Las Vegas. When Clinton and Charity Muñoz sought help to overcome a porn addiction, Clinton was told to memorize more scripture and Charity was told to wear him out sexually ...and things got worse. Millennial marriages are vulnerable to pornography like no generation before them — and there is a lot of bad advice out there. But we have good news! The Muñoz family, Authentic Intimacy, and others are learning to have conversations about sexual addiction that not only point people to Jesus, but to professional help as well. In this episode, Juli invites Clinton to share how their new marriage actually triggered his porn use; Charity admits that she couldn't celebrate Clinton's small victories early on (and why that's OK); and together they explain how healing individually, as a couple, and in community were all crucial components to their recovery.
