Welcome to Episode 63 of the RetroWDW Podcast: "Project 90" - We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of our previous shows from over the years. We have visited multiple parks, resorts, and just about everything else in between. This month, Ted Linhart joins us as one of our top tier donors - this episode is guided by Ted and his amazing set of documents. Last month we hit Thunder in Paradise pretty hard with multiple episodes. Listener Mail Right to the mailbag this month! The bag is full and we love that! Every month, you can possibly get on the show, so be sure to write to us at podcast@retrowdw.com. Also, top tier donors can even join us on a show! Take a look at how you can join us live on an episode. Scott Jensen is first with some great pics of Hogan's Beach Shop, which is actually in Clearwater and the Orlando area. Thanks Scott! Stephen Myers also wrote in about Thunder in Paradise, saying him and Terry have discussed his time at WDW often. Thanks Stephen! Norris is up next - he wrote in about a vehicle on WDW property that has a mickey head tread pattern. JT is digging into this a bit and found they are made by Trelleborg. We are hoping for more info soon... Tracy wanted to know if we had any Space Mountain under construction photos, as her father worked on the ride.  We found a few, so just do a quick search on our site for "Space Mountain Construction" - this should be a fun rabbit hole to go down. Mark wrote in complimenting the big three-part Horizons Podcast series. He has a great story about Walt Disney Elementary School, which is near him. Dane wrote us about a vintage map from the late 70s and it is so cool! Thank you so much Dane! Audio Rewind Our audio rewind this month is called Beautiful Beulah, it is from Summer Magic starring Hayley Mills & Burl Ives - Thank you for all the guesses and emails! We have a winner! Congratulations Carolina Nedal - you will get some RetroWDW & LBVHS Pins! If you think you know the answer to this month's audio rewind, email us! contest@retrowdw.com - All entries are due 1/11/2020 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic This month we get into Project 90. Ted Linhart is with us and ready to go with this amazingly important and topical document put together by RCA. We start you off with the history of RCA, how they connected with Disney and what the point of this document is. You have to imagine that back in the late 60s & early 70s, Disney was embarking on an entirely new concept of vacationing with Walt Disney World. Now before you get to into this, you might want to look at the document, and we will make it very easy for you to look at on Ted's site.Click Here For The Project 90 DocThe plan, as you can see above, is incredibly in-depth and really is taking the hospitality industry to another level. Nearly every aspect of the RCA corporation is put into use with WDW, and it is all fully outlined in this doc and this episode. The communication systems, security, charging and so much - all linked up and it sounds so seriously 2013 with the invention of the Magic Band. We go through most of this and discuss, so you might want to have the doc pulled up to flip through the pages as we talk.  If you imagine the era, what vacationing was like in the 60s/70s, and then also picture the commitment this would require by Disney, it is all super ambitious and neat for the era.We would like to thank Ted for joining us once again - he always brings something unique and fun to the show and what is great about his mission, you can all join him. Take a look at his site, Disney Docs, where everything is organized and cataloged for your enjoyment.  We hope you enjoyed this month's episode and also wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Episode 54 6/6/20Here in New York restaurants are still closed downwe are hoping to travel at some point this summer but we are no rush to get somewhere where everything is closed. Our restaurants are just starting to open and they're packed with people. We're trying to use our best judgment in avoiding large crowds but still trying to enjoy ourselves. We go on hikes but we pick places that are not popular heights. We live a little over 1 hour from the George Washington bridge so we get a lot of folks from the city in this area who won who enjoy the hiking also. We've done a pretty good job avoiding crowds on the trails. We've also taken our kayak and thrown it in local Marsh and reservoir without issue. Now if you remember or towards the middle to latter part of our last trip to the southeast I was complaining of back pain and I thought it was from sitting too much and the bad couch and it turns out I have two bulged discs. When we returned home we started cutting a lot of firewood and my left elbow started hurting and it turns out I have tendonitis and fluid on the elbow.so as it turns out being home during this. Is a good time to have everything addressed. It's interesting us and probably the whole world is experiencing quite a lot of stress with the coronavirus. and at this time my website has its lowest number of visitors ever. I do know that people do not like to reach out for help with stress and stress Management. It's all very interesting , human nature that is. when we were returning home from our Southeast trip in March everything was beginning to shut down so I knew that I would be missing out on the opportunity of helping a lot of people at schools and clients in Hudson valley. Been really busy working on the RV. I put in a divider curtain and and new shocks all the way around. a buddy of mine suggested new shocks when I was explaining to him how the wind affected the RV and the jarring pounding of the RV when we hit potholes I explained to him that are RV only has about 28,000 miles on it but he explained that it is 7 years old. he asked me if I was going to do the shocks myself and I said no I do not have a lift and he said that you don't need a lift for the shocks. I pulled up a video on YouTube and it's pretty straightforward so I bought for koni shocks which were a little bit more expensive but I figured if I'm going to do it let me do it right. So I swap them out man what a difference they make. So much smoother on bumps a lot less way going on and off of entrance and exits on highways. And a lot less jarring. I will post pictures of that soon also put a link in the show notes for it. However on spreaker I cannot put active hyperlinks in the show notes. but what I will do is I will put the link to my Facebook page with pictures be located and unfortunately you'll have to copy and paste them into a browser sorry about that. Thanks Scott.I put a new battery charger in the RV it was making odd noises and was charging the batteries intermittently the changeover was pretty straightforward and easy and everything seems to be working beautifully. Trish noticed was that when the slide was not going out when we were running it off of the coach batteries. But plugged it or turned on the inverter or ran the generator the slide worked beautifully. Welcoming Scott Rogers to the My Natural Beet Podcast! Scott works as the "founder and director of the Institute for Mindfulness Studies and of the University of Miami School of Law's Mindfulness in Law Program." He shares mindfulness and other contemplative practices with those in high stress and high consequence environments - including lawyers and law students. The first time I was introduced to Scott's work was when my Dad shared with me a little about Scott's "Mindfulness and the Law" presentation he gave over the phone to those who attended an Inns of Court meeting in Pensacola, Florida. I remember feeling happy to learn that someone (this guy!) was taking the time to talk to busy lawyers and judges about the importance of present moment awareness - mindfulness - and how starting a mindful practice would leave you feeling content, calm and in general, feeling more at ease while practicing law. Scott travels all over the United States introducing this unique tool to lawyers and lawyers-to-be. “You will spread it most effectively by embodying it.” - on living a mindful and healthy life This episode is insightful and hopeful because Scott shares with us many of the steps that are currently being taken in legal education and in the legal profession to promote law student and lawyer wellbeing. Scott even mentions the work being done by current Florida Bar President, Michael Higer, who is addressing lawyer wellness and mental health. To give you some background on Scott's work in mindfulness it is important to note that he along with Dr. Amishi Jha are the program directors at UMindfulness which is the University of Miami's Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative where research is conducted on the efficacy and benefits of short-term mindfulness practices. This initiative was started in 2010 and has been evolving ever since. UM's mindfulness initiative is a testament to the open minded-ness of the administration and receptiveness of the students, faculty, and surrounding community. It was a natural sign of growth when the law school decided to include Mindfulness and the law programs. At the University of Miami School of Law, there are at least four courses offered: Mindful Leadership, Mindful Ethics, Mindfulness in the Law (each semester), Mindfulness in Motivating Business Compliance in the Law and there are also a few opportunities to practice present moment awareness around the law school campus. For example, a weekly mindful walk around the lake, a short stretch and mindful movement the in student lounge, and a sitting practice with faculty. As a former law student who attended a once-a-week meditation group - thanks to Professor Krieger at Florida State University College of Law - I am in awe of the resources available at UM School of Law. What a wonderful tool to equip students with and as a student, what a wonderful tool to be equipped with! Here is to a more mindful and kind legal profession and to the development and support of law students as they matriculate through their rigorous studies to one day become a member of the legal community! I might add that this is the first MNB episode that used the channel of FaceTime video while recording the conversation. Usually my guests and I connect over FaceTime audio and although I was a bit nervous to have the camera on me the entire conversation, I found our conversation was more engaging and I even felt more connected in the conversation. Thanks Scott for flipping the camera on and inadvertently pushing me a bit outside of my comfort zone! And I am aware that this episode might suggest how important sleep is to me because I mention my lack of it it a few times, please forgive :)  “Mindfulness is one form of cultivating greater present moment awareness and there are many.”Subscribe: iTunes Listen and subscribe in iTunes: Show memo:Scott's websiteScott's bookUMindfulness at the University of MiamiFairchild Botanical Garden “You will spread it most effectively by embodying it.” - on living a mindful and healthy life“We don’t know what tomorrow brings so let’s not miss this moment because that is where the meaning in life resides.”  A huge shout out to Na'an Stop the jammin' band from Boulder, Colorado for the accompanying podcast music. Hi everyone, In this episode we have Scott Klein from ProPublica with us. ProPublica is a nonprofit organization that does investigative journalism and Scott directs a team of data journalists and programmers to create new applications based on data and data visualization. In the show we talk about how ProPublica works and what challenges they are confronted with. How do you pick a story? How do you develop it? How do you make sure you are not making mistakes? This are some of the questions we discuss. We also talk about tools and libraries and how to train yourself to become a data journalist. This was a very much needed episode as we never had a proper episode on data journalism.
