Jamie has been making music good enough for the gods, for over 20 years, both as a solo artist and also as frontman and guitarist of the exceptional and much missed Reuben. Jamie's last solo EP ‘King Of Clubs' from 2021 is amongst his very best and you should all stop reading this and go seek it out forthwith. This week, the Top 3 chat goes deep into Jamie's Top 3 Action Figures. We also have some other lovely general chatter and nonsense, a Tuesday Top 3 to discuss, a load of shout outs and more more more. What are you waiting for? Dive in! The chat water is nice and warm.

After over a decade of Reuben's ‘indefinite hiatus', cult legend Jamie Lenman discusses how his initial scepticism of having “fans” developed over the years, as he considers unwanted fan forums, missed Christmas number ones, burgled houses, burnt records and the annual meeting of Reuben followers at his “tombstone”. Possibly the most thought-provoking episode yet, we get surprisingly existential on the celebration of death, the dangers of technology and how crushed up beer cans sum up the magic of life. Most importantly, we find out if Jamie ever plans to visit 2000 Trees' ‘Camp Reuben'...

Hello People! Welcome to episode 51 of the When In Yorkshire Podcast, how are you? I hope you are all getting by as well as can be. I am back with another episode recorded at Slamdunk festival in Leeds - it was a busy day! If you've seen who my guest is this week, have a general Interest in punk rock and or podcasts, then this man needs not introduction. For the sake of everyone else, I will still do my best to summarise Mr Matt Stocks.  I first remember seeing Matt conducting interviews on Skuzz TV and then he was one of the voices behind Kerrang Radio both of which were done very well and were informative and entertaining however after not hearing anything of him for a few years, I noticed his name crop up on a few festival posters where he was DJing and then it was his podcast Life in The Stocks which really captures my attention. I can't remember how I came across it but I remember listening to his episode with Frank Turner, then Tom Green, Jamie Lenman, Andy Cairns and Grant Nicholas all of which captivated me and I have been hooked on Life in the stocks since. It's not just the amazing guests he manages to get, although there are some huge names from the world of entertainment but it's the tone and candid nature of the conversations. Matt has a great ability to get his guests on a level where they seem to feel comfortable covering any topic and many divulge very intimate thoughts and feelings. As a listener, it feels like a blend of interview and then getting to hear a private conversation between friends which ticks all the boxes for me.  And then we move on to his latest podcast with Killswitch Engage vocalist Jessie Leech he which, if you haven't heard - I am jealous of the amount of amazing hours of conversation you have ahead of you. These episodes focus on the people anf their experiences only really touching on their work if it's relevant and really has created a community where listeners are guests on the show too.  Links for both of these podcasts are in the description for you to check out as well as links to Matt's first book - transcripts of sections from his life the stocks podcast covering various topics and it really is a great read covering conversations with the likes of Andrew wk l, Doug Stanhope,    Whilst Matt is known to be an open book and I was aware he would answer anything I asked if him, I inte ntionally kept this conversation light as it really felt like the day was a real milestone in the journey of his life in music and I wanted to get his take on this. There are many more questions I'd love to ask Matt and hopefully we'll get to do a follow up episode in the future. For now I'll let you listen to episode 51 from slam dunk festival with Matt Stocks.    https://open.spotify.com/show/3i5ON0eGOgaWgX58FG7rNk?si=K0FSW35zTMaHJ-wGpW2ywA   https://open.spotify.com/show/4l04uOo5aE4ueSfeBREpQY?si=qEj7C95qShyxROfuaohwZw   Life in the Stocks: Veracious Conversations with Musicians & Creatives (Volume One) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1644281872/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SHM3MTH0PFZ8331DG4FG

In the next episode, we'll be discussing “Omega Water” by “Lonewolves in Paradise” and “Unsmart Lady” by “Dry Cleaning”. On “submission corner” we cover two releases from Ripcord Records: “Kintsukuroi” from Chilean metal band “La Bestia De Gevaudan” and the “Anatomy EP” from Aberdeen's own “Seas, Starry”. And, as if that wasn't enough, we also review music written by artificial intelligence with “Lost Tapes of The 27 Club”, the massive collaborative ska-punk extravaganza “The First One” from “Andy B & The World”, “Cover to Cover” the all-Scottish-all-female cover album curated by Edinburgh-based musician Fiona Liddell and “Haram” the latest, bewilderingly complex art-rap release from “Armand Hammer & The Alchemist”. King of Clubs.    On this episode we speak to Jamie Lenman. Formerly the frontman and principal songwriter for British alt-rockers Reuben, singer, guitarist, and illustrator Jamie Lenman launched a solo career after the band went on indefinite hiatus. Lenman returned to illustrating, but continued to compose sporadically, and in 2014 decided to complete his unfinished song ideas with the help of a friend. The result was his debut solo album, Muscle Memory, which had a much broader stylistic range than his work with , incorporating jazz and folk elements. His second solo effort, Devolver, followed in 2017.  2019 saw Lenman team up with producer Space who had recorded Devolver to work on a collection of covers. Shuffle, which was issued that year, saw Lenman taking on not just a selection of his favorite songs by other artists, but an eclectic mix of spoken word pieces from novels, movie soundtracks, and video game music as well. 2020 saw Lenman returning to his songwriting roots with the release of the mini-album King of Clubs.  Please support the Mark and Me Podcast here https://www.patreon.com/Markandme

Big album season has well and truly begun as Steve and Remfry are up to their eyeballs in great new releases from the likes of Napalm Death, Everything Everything, Bob Mould, Fawn Limbs, Jamie Lenman and Hidden Mothers. We also pay our respects to reggae legend Toots Hibbert who sadly passed away last week and another legendary band descends into the pit of Broken Records as Pink Floyd's double one side live, one side studio album Ummagumma is dissected and assessed for a placing in our league table of despair. In a surprise twist of events, Steve and Remfry actually have something positive to say about Reading and Leeds Festival, who have (controversially) decided to expand their line-up of headliners from 3 to 6. And speaking of live music, Remfry went to a gig ... yes, a live gathering of people, joined together to gawp at someone playing music on stage ... live ... woo-hoo! And who better to see than friend of the show and ole Riot Act semi-regular Jamie Lenman for his first gig in 165 days eh?Reviews this week come courtesy of Oceans of Slumber, Bloxx, Bill Callahan, Pig Destroyer and a surprise EP release from '68.And finally, after a few weeks of utterly despicable grotty garbage on Broken Records, we take a look behind Hollywood actor Corey Feldman's fifth (yep ... fifth!) record Angelic 2 the Core: Angelic Funkadelic / Angelic Rockadelic, a double album that really needs to be heard to be believed! Oh and Steve becomes furious at Remfry's appraisal of The Lost Boys, a film he's finally got around to seeing just a short 33 years after it's initial release. Devolver. On this episode we talk to Jamie Lenman, best known as the singer, guitarist and songwriter for underground heroes Reuben. Reuben released two albums with Xtra Mile and joined bands like Biffy Clyro, Fightstar and Billy Talent on tours around the UK and Europe. Upon their return, they founded their own label, Hideous Records, through which they released a live DVD documentary and their third, critically acclaimed album, ‘In Nothing We Trust’. In 2011, after over a year without playing any music, Lenman began working on an ambitious double solo album of folk/blues and thrash metal, which was released in 2013 to critical acclaim. After a dazzling live tour featuring a three-piece brass section, Lenman returned again to his illustration work and began recording new music with Prodigy and Idles producer Space in his Guildford hideout. He shortly signed with indie giants Big Scary Monsters and released his sophomore record 'Devolver' to widespread critical acclaim, following a lengthy and innovative pre-order campaign. Lenman is currently touring the record across the UK and Europe.
