Snack wrappers, moldy cereal bowls, lonely socks...these are all things you find under the bed of a teenager. We just upgraded my son's bed and I found so many treasures hiding behind that piece of furniture. The transition into the teenage room is essential to their new responsibilities and lifestyle. Give them ownership of their stuff and the capacity to keep it clean. Today Rebecca shares some helpful tips to creating a feel-good, work-hard space for your teenagers. Not only are we upgrading furniture, but we're casting vision for their future. We have the opportunity to speak truth over our mini-adults and remind them of their gifts and potential. Let's spur them on to a life of learning and resilience. Mentions: Mathetes is the Greek word for disciple. As artists, we are often presented with situations that ask us to say “yes” to something that feels challenging or risky. This could be as small as the need to rework a painting to as large as agreeing to a major solo exhibit. Accepting any challenge requires a commitment and it may feel stressful and bring on self-doubt. Yet successful artists always take some risks that lead to growth and new possibilities—in their careers and in the studio. Today Rebecca and her partner at Cold Wax Academy, Jerry McLaughlin, talk about why it is important to take on challenges and risks in your art practice--along with a few stories about their own related experiences. Rebecca and Jerry recorded this episode on video as well as audio, so if you'd like to see the video version, please visit the Messy Studio Facebook page or the Cold wax Academy Facebook page. That's www.facebook.com/messystudiopodcast or www.facebook.com/coldwaxacademyIn .Here's the Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q5Cq7ZI3xI As much as we may hesitate to step away from what is known and comfortable, risks and challenges offer advancement and growth that are vital to growing your work and art business. Of course, we need to be discerning, to consider what is realistic, or whether there is anything about the idea that doesn't seem legit or too much of a distraction. But too often we hesitate to take opportunities that really will be beneficial because we consider them too risky. A good question is, what exactly are you risking? Often the dangers are larger in your imagination than something that might actually happen. The gains are very often much larger than any risk involved. Making a commitment to follow through on a challenge that offers promise is actually quite freeing. You gain a sense of purpose and focus that moves you forward in every aspect of your practice. A Happier Hour with Rebecca Weller Author and health coach Rebecca Weller says she had always been a binge drinker. In her younger years, she used alcohol as a "social lubricant" to feel less shy and more outgoing. As Rebecca got older, she realized that her excessive drinking had become a habit that wasn't at all in line with her goals and otherwise healthy lifestyle. Eventually, she started researching how to stop drinking, and she came across some very encouraging sober blogs. "I felt immediate recognition as they talked about things like not having an off switch, blackouts, and feeling so ashamed of things they did." She initially decided to commit to three months without alcohol as somewhat of an experiment. Today Rebecca has almost 7 years sober. She's a speaker, health coach and has written multiple books including, "A Happier Hour." You can learn more about Rebecca at SexySobriety.com.au and find her books on Amazon. When she was 17 years old she ran away, leaving behind everything and everyone she had ever known and moves 100’s of miles away with only a few dollars in her pocket and the clothes on her back with no guarantee of survival. Depression, addiction, and battles with suicide had unknowingly been ruling her life since she was 8 years old. At 18 years old Rebecca found herself in a place of mere destruction and brokenness that nearly took her life. Having no place else left to turn she finally chose to turned to the only one that hadn’t left her from the beginning, Jesus Christ. Recognizing that the only reason she is still alive today is because of God, Rebecca made a commitment to God that she would let Him lead her to the destiny he has waiting for her. Today Rebecca is an advocate for helping people find the only True and lasting Joy and Freedom she has found in Christ Jesus. Having once been the person that was hopeless & desperate, Rebecca’s mission is to be a Voice of Hope to those that are where she once was. With guidance and direction from the Holy Spirit Rebecca wrote a book called “Beyond the Brokenness: The Adventurous Heart of an Amish Girl” to help people better understand that no matter where you are, what you’ve done or what’s been done to you in life, there is Hope. Rebecca Krossnoski of Nature Delivered Farm joins me to talk about her passion for pigs. Rebecca left her job as a construction estimator 6 years ago to start pasture raising pigs. She realized that her old job wasn't going to be there forever so she began the transition into the farming business while she was still working at her old job. She had no prior farming experience when she embarked on the venture, learning along the way from her grandfather's notes, other farmers, and books, then building on that book knowledge with real world trial and error.Rebecca is another example of someone who decided to follow her passion and make a go of farming with no prior farming experience. She could have easily made excuses about why it wouldn't work or what her disadvantages were, but she didn't focus on that, she focused on the positive and made it happen. She put her heart and soul into her pigs, did her research, and worked her ass off. Like any new business there were some troubles and mistakes made along the way, but in the end she was successful.Today Rebecca pasture raises her pigs in central Florida. She rotates pigs through 1/2 to 1 1/2 acre parcels. The pigs spend 3 to 4 weeks in each parcel.Rebecca's advice for anyone who interested in raising pigs. Start with a couple of barrows (a castrated male before puberty) and raise them. See how you like living with pigs. Then process the pigs, and see if you can actually do it. After this you should know if pigs are for you. Show Notes: www.permaculturevoices.com/17
