Today's episode is a SIBO update from me… and it's an exciting one! I FINALLY have a negative test - or is it? Yes, nothing in my treatment journey has been straight forward so far and apparently, that's not going to change any time soon! In today's episode, I share: My experience on the second round of the elemental diet and why I LOVED it! My struggles with the low histamine bi-phasic diet and what finally got me on track. My experience on antibiotics for SIBO (rifaximin, metronidazole and neomycin) and the not so great response from my immune system. The symptoms that got better - and the symptoms that got worse, despite a negative test result. The dilemma as to whether my SIBO test results are negative or a hydrogen sulphide flat line. Why I think I may have small intestine fungal overgrowth and what my next steps are with testing and treating. My prevention of relapse strategies including supplements, hypnotherapy, vagus nerve healing and more! This is a LONG episode but there was so much to catch up on, and I just hope that by being really honest about my journey, you'll be able to gain some insight and perspective on your own healing path with SIBO and endometriosis. Ginger Stache is joining me on the podcast today to talk about her new book, Chasing Wonder. I LOVED this conversation and am so inspired to chase more wonder in my day to day life and with my kids. We truly can get so stuck in our routines that we lose our spark and joy in life. In Chasing Wonder, Ginger encourages us to find that joy and adventure again, in the small and big things!   Ginger firmly believes that we are at our best when we live with an attitude that life is an adventure--an outlook that sets the stage by believing that every moment has the potential to bring something amazing, a sight to behold, or a lesson to be learned. By walking you through her own adventures in Chasing Wonder, you will find the inspiration to begin your own. And what's more, you'll make space for God to move in marvelous and unexpected ways.   Ginger is the Chief Creative Officer of Joyce Meyer Ministries. I love following pop culture, and one of my favorite commentators is someone who is making the law accessible and relatable through the lens of celebrity and influencer legal issues. Emily D. Baker's content is the first legal content that I've truly been able to not only stomach, but actually enjoy since the time I became a lawyer, and I LOVED interviewing her for this week's episode of Beyond Influential. If you like my content and personality, I know you're going to like this episode. Emily D. Baker is the host of the top-20 news commentary podcast, The Emily Show. Emily's YouTube channel has over 140,000 subscribers now and over 10 million views. Emily has created a niche for herself where she gets to truly be herself and make money talking about the topics she enjoys, and she's created a unique and passionate community who calls themselves the law nerds.  She has over 15 years of legal experience, including over 10 years as a deputy district attorney, which is huge. And I had to have Emily on the show because I honestly just want her to be my friend. We are both two lawyers who are very into pop culture, and this episode is NOT boring legal sh*t—we're talking about real life—business, boundaries, social media, and more. On Ep. 161, we cover: How Emily is making the law accessible and relatable through pop culture  Emily's journey to law and her experience in the DAs office: From white collar crime and perjury cases to murders, gangs, and drug charges;  Burnout & boundaries: What led her to the online space & YouTube Britney Spears & Erika Jayne: Keeping up with current cases in the public eye How she's built a rabid community of “law nerds” that moderates itself How she's monetized a business model the way she wants, working with ADHD, and more!     Don't want to miss an episode (or valuable free resources!)? Compassion is something we have when we live in our healthiest Adult self, but how easy is it for you to turn around and offer that compassion to yourself? Most of us speak very differently to ourselves than we would to a friend, especially when we make a mistake or are going through a hard time.   But self-compassion is an essential part of healing! In fact, studies show that truly effective therapy is improved by increasing our self-compassion so we can live with more love and less anxiety and stress. My guest today, Dr. Kristin Neff, is one of the world's leading self-compassion experts and one of the first to conduct scientific research on the benefits of self-compassion and how it can change your life. I LOVED our conversation, which covers everything from what self-compassion is and how to cultivate it to the inner critic, anger, gender roles and the way society often makes it difficult to cultivate self-compassion.   Listen to discover: What self compassion really is The three core components of self-compassion Emotional and behavioral self-compassion practices Why self-compassion is not selfish When anger is constructive and loving Why self-compassion is essential for overcoming depression, anxiety and stress Self-compassion is not selfish. In fact, studies show that when we show ourselves compassion, it actually increases our compassion for others! Life is messy and none of us is perfect, which is why approaching the journey — both ours and others' — with gentleness and kindness is so important to being healthy! “The biggest problem with self-esteem is it's contingent on success.” - Dr. Kristin Neff   “The word ‘compassion' by definition is a connected stance.” - Dr. Kristin Neff   “I know from practicing The Adult Chair, where we're mindful, we practice self-compassion, we're living in the moment, we're tuning into the moment...it gets easier.” - Michelle Chalfant   “What reminds you to practice self-compassion is your suffering.” - Dr. Kristin Neff   “I really changed myself through self-compassion.” - Michelle Chalfant   Resources   Dr. Kristin Neff Website https://self-compassion.org/   “Fierce Self-Compassion” https://www.amazon.com/Fierce-Self-Compassion-Harness-Kindness-Thrive/dp/006299106X   The Adult Chair® Membership https://theadultchair.com/membership/ July Theme: I live in balance.   The Adult Chair® Coaching Certification https://theadultchair.com/certification-program/ Applications open for those on the waitlist July 12!   P&G Hair Food https://hairfood.com/ Or find at Amazon, Target or Walmart   More Adult Chair   The Adult Chair® Website https://theadultchair.com    The Adult Chair® Membership https://theadultchair.com/membership/   The Adult Chair® Workshop https://theadultchair.com/events/   The Adult Chair® Coaching Certification https://theadultchair.com/certification-program/   TAC Circles® https://theadultchair.com/taccircles/   Stay Connected   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michelle.chalfant   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MichelleChalfantFanPage/   The Adult Chair® Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theadultchair/   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Michellechalfant   ***   EPISODE CREDITS:   If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment.   He helps thought leaders, influencers, executives, HR professionals, recruiters, lawyers, realtors, bloggers, coaches, and authors create, launch, and produce podcasts that grow their business and impact the world.   Find out more at https://emeraldcitypro.com

We've been talking all about coaching in this series, and while there are many facets that make up a successful coaching business, when it comes down to it: coaching is all about the relationship.  As a coach, the relationships you build with your clients can make or break your business.  As a client, you have to be able to trust that you can truly rely on your coach to guide you and keep you accountable.   This takes intentional time and effort from both coach and client, which is why it is important that coaches are matched with the right clients.  #YourVibeAttractsYourTribe  When you think about your coaching business, what kind of relationships do you have with your clients?  What kind of community are you building?  This week on the Epic Success Podcast, I talk with Certified Master NeuroCoaches™, Angela Stillwell and Gina Gonzalez. These women are passionate about our coaching community and are driven by supporting those in the NeuroCoaching Certification™ Program. They've leveled all the way up to Master NeuroCoach instructors and they know they program inside and out!  Are you ready to learn exactly what it is that sets the NeuroCoaching Certification™ Program apart? Let's dive in!   The biggest take-aways from today's episode are:   “You're working on it and you're very aware that you're working on it, but subtly. It's like one day, you look and you think, ‘Hm, I feel really differently about that thing that used to bother me.'” When you do the work within the NeuroCoaching Model™, you give yourself freedom from those limiting beliefs that hold you back from your vision. You are not the only one out there with your “story”, and it doesn't have to continue to hold you back.  [4:02]   “That's where the biggest shifts come in: when they do it for themselves first, and then the business.”  It's all about committing to yourself. You have to do the work and trust the process. Lean into the resistance that you're facing, because that's where the growth is. [16:22] “We're always going to hold your vision, sometimes higher, than you do.”  Our instructors, and fellow members of the NeuroCoaching™ community, are desperate to see everyone else succeed. That's the kind of community we are building here. We care so much about your vision that your success feels like our success. [27:18] Coaching is one of those special paths that really creates an impact.  These are human lives.  This is what we get to do.  Getting you to the finish line lights. us. up!   There are people in the world who are just waiting for you to step into your coaching business.  They won't coach with Gina or Angela or even me.  They're waiting for YOU.  I LOVED this conversation with Angela and Gina and getting to take a deep dive into the NeuroCoaching Certification™ and listening to them share the amazing stories of the NeuroCoaches they get to work with.  Are you ready to change your story? Have you heard? We are now accepting applications for the NeuroCoaching Certification™ Program! Turn your passion for serving others into a profitable coaching offer, launch your offer successfully and create a life of freedom for yourself & your family. Ready to stop dreaming about replacing your 9-5 income and start making the impact and income you've been after for as long as you can remember? The NeuroCoaching Certification™ is a brain-based coaching certification and mentorship to help you build and launch your impactful, profitable coaching business. By the time you are a Certified NeuroCoach™, you will: STOP second-guessing whether you know enough - No more wondering whether you have what it takes to make it as a coach. You'll know how to get life-changing results for your clients every single time. Know exactly WHAT to offer & HOW to offer it - Forget about jumping from idea to idea, trying to guess your way to creating your profitable coaching offer. I'll show you exactly what to offer & how to offer it so your perfect clients will be lining up to work with you. Start making money for your coaching services RIGHT AWAY - No need to worry about how you'll land your first (or next) client. You'll get the exact framework to start enrolling clients as soon as you start the program so you can make money and hone your coaching skills right from the jump. Eliminate anxiety around the entire sales process - Don't worry about white-knuckling your way through the sales process when you get on a call with a new prospect. I'll teach you my entire sales process that allows YOU to show up confidently and makes working with you a no-brainer. Get life-changing transformations for your clients every single time - No more uncertainty about whether you can actually help your clients get total and lasting transformations. You'll be able to help anyone with any problem they want to eliminate or result they want to create. Enjoy the freedom that comes from having an impactful, profitable online business - I'll never forget the first time I realized I never had to miss another soccer game, family dinner, or coffee catch-up with friends ever again. How will that kind of freedom change your life? Are you ready to stop second-guessing yourself and start making the income + impact you've been dreaming of?  Yes! I'm ready to apply Today I want to give a shoutout to one of my Epic Success Podcast listeners who left a 5-star review titled “Success ideas in every area”: “Wow, Dr. Shannon really brings it on this podcast! I love that she's faith-centered and lets us behind the curtain on how she's built her business! As we grow up and realise how much of the world isn't within our control, it's easy to begin to feel anxious and helpless - and that's where the power of the ancient philosophy, Stoicism, comes in. If you want to know how I managed to be so resilient and turn my life around after the loss of my sister, Stoicism is a huge part of it. It's a philosophy not many young people know about, but should, especially if we want to become more resilient and create better futures for ourselves, and this world.  But what is ''stoicism'' and what's it all about? I've brought on psychotherapist and Stoicism expert, Donald Robertson, on to the show to explain more about the prinicples of this ancient philosophy and the important role it can play in our modern world. This #yaysofourlives episode coming to you from lockdown for the FOURTH time. To my fellow Victorians, sending you ALL my love and if you’ve been reading my dear diary reflections on socials you’ll know that I as much as anyone need the reminder to be gentle on yourselves with your response to this round. Whether you’re swinging between productivity pressure or beating yourselves up for being the opposite of productive or between sadness or frustration and guilt for enjoying parts of it or even beating yourself up for having a reaction at all because it’s only seven days long, just let go of it all and remember it’s normal to respond to abnormal situations with abnormal reactions. And if the emotions you are sitting in are nonetheless starting to feel really overwhelming, this week’s quote of the yay is one I pulled from last week’s episode with Hugh van Cuylenberg (which I’m so pleased has had an outpouring of love):"Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final" - Rainer Marie Rilke.Another one I love is from Charlie Chaplin is "Nothing is permanent in this wicked world - not even our troubles", which I needed today because I’ve been pretty flat and tired and wasn't feeling the yay when I first tried to record this ep on my own... SO I put in a last minute call to two legends that I LOVED chatting with recently who I knew could lift the energy for this episode and I'm SO glad I did!!! Lachie Bradford and Robbie Hicks are the hosts of Funny Business - a cracking podcast for free thinkers and creators exploring business culture and performance in Australia. Email me at hello@franexcell.com with any questions or take aways! For more, head over to: www.franexcell.com/   What Are You Overcomplicating?   What are you overcomplicating in your life or business right now?   I just did a reel over on ‘the gram’ about how all too often we overcomplicate getting what we want.   We look at something simple and think ‘that’ll never work’ or ‘it can’t be that simple’.  It’s as if, the more simple something is, the less we trust it.   We often know the answers.  Let’s take weight loss, we know I love a weight loss analogy because it’s so easy to relate to.   We know ‘eat less, move more’ is always a winner.  But we might seek a more complicated solution like restricting certain foods.  Or complex meal prep like macros or doing something that requires research, like cutting out wheat or dairy.     I used to get lost in those labels.     It’s often the same with mindset work.  It’s as if you’ve been told what works a hundred times but there’s something you don’t trust because it seems too simple.   Same with business.  I think there is SO much that's overcomplicated in business.  It wasn’t until I cut out the noise of all the millions of strategies that, according to the messaging, if I ‘didn’t have in my business then I really didn’t have a business’ that things took off.     It made everything harder.  It’s when you strip things back.  Simplify and take action from that place that you’ll start to see the results.   Confucius said “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”   And it’s SO true.  I see it all the time with clients.  One of my favourite things to do is help them see the simple.  Often met with a ‘why didn’t I think of that’ or ‘Oh my God that’s so easy’ and a frustrated little laugh.   I used to do it myself too, because I'm a human!   I had a year where my ‘word’ of the year was simplicity.  I LOVED that year because I had it next to me all the time.  I had it flash up on my phone.  I really intentionally lived by it for that year so it’s now just a go to way that I think.   If ever I start going down a thought loop it’s straight away ‘where am I over complicating this’.   Very helpful, I thoroughly recommend it!   So why do we keep going to the overly complicated ways of getting what we want?   What is that?!   Well, it’s actually a ‘thing’.     In psychology it’s known as ‘complexity bias’.   Complexity bias is where we can look at something fairly simple and think there’s more to it than it is.  We can confuse ourselves over it. We LOVE doing this when we’re already overwhelmed too...just for kicks!   We don’t look for the obvious answer that might be staring us in the face.   The area I do this with is tech.  All my emotional regulation tools and techniques come out to play when I'm around tech.   Sometimes it can feel like the most basic of things is impossible to follow.    If we go back to the weight analogy again, you might have gained weight and you start researching thyroid function or hormone imbalance.  It might be that.   But it might also be the entire box of chocolates that you ate or the fact you haven’t exercised in months.   I’m talking to myself here too guys ha!   This is definitely something advertisers take advantage of too.  After 15 years in advertising and doing my dissertation on the way marketers make women feel terrified of ageing it’s rife.   It could be confusing language that doesn’t really mean anything.  I remember back to my dissertation and it was a beauty brand marketing their brand as better because it contained ‘aqua spheres’.  Think about that for a second. I mean, does an aqua sphere sound like it could be a drop of water to you?    The same goes for marketing of courses or programmes.  People will make you feel like if you don’t have THEIR specific thing that you’re missing something.     They’re intentionally letting you over complicate it so you feel like you NEED it!   We unconsciously make ‘more complicated’ mean ‘better’.   We just see things as more complicated than they actually are.   This is another sneaky brain shortcut.   It means you won’t do the thing that’s going to require a burst of energy, and it wants to conserve energy.   I see it often when making personal development changes.  People don’t trust the easy options.  Which is interesting because they often over complicate by looking for instant gratification.   It really can be way more simple than you think to make HUGE changes in your life, which is what my first cohort of SOS! Ladies have been learning with me over the last 5 weeks.     The tools and techniques that work are SUPER simple. Using your breath, meditation, journaling.   You just need a little more information and context for your brain and your nervous system to trust it!   It’s so easy not to trust the simple option.  It’s often not until you have the complicated or more complex knowledge as to why something works that you have the motivation to stick with it and trust the process.   Ask yourself questions like, ‘how could I simplify this?’ or ‘where am I over complicating this’.  ‘What is making me not trust the simplicity’.   Seek someone else’s opinion who isn’t as close to it as you.  Often other people can see the things we don’t yet because they have a different way of viewing the world, or different experiences and different beliefs coded into their system.   Seek the evidence of other people who have done the thing you want to do.   LOOK for the easy way.   The more you look for it the easier it will be to find.  Funny how that works!    You’ll also be giving your brain the instructions that this thing is important to you so your reticular activating system will be on the hunt to deliver the people and opportunities that you might ordinarily miss.   But when you have this complexity bias running, AND you’re delivered marketing by people who KNOW this all mashed together it’s easy to see how you can get discombobulated and confused over your next step!   So you just don’t take any and things don’t change.   So, It’s entirely possible that having the business, and the life that you want is entirely less complicated and far more in reach for you than you’re making it!   I see SO many people wanting to start businesses and not doing it because it becomes this big complicated mess in their heads because there’s so much NOISE out there, so it’s easier to decide you’re just not cut out for it.    But, in my opinion, that couldn’t be further from the truth!   You’ll hopefully remember my friend Lisa Johnson. She's been on a few episodes of the podcast before so go check those out if you haven’t because she thinks very the same way I do.   So together we make quite the combination!   It’s time we stop over complicating things, particularly business.  We can take away so many of the things we complicate about business.  Like growing an audience, creating content, funnels, email marketing, how to actually make money.     But also stop believing things like having a business means having to live hand to mouth or feast or famine in terms of clients and revenue.     This uncertainty that can come with being your own boss...which your brain does NOT like.    There are SO many ways it doesn’t have to be like that.   Having done what feels like a bazillion different courses before, feeling like there was always a piece of the puzzle that I was missing to actually make it work for me in the way I wanted to.  Based around what I wanted for my life.   I fell for it, and wish I knew then what I know now.  It absolutely, categorically doesn’t have to be that way.   Lisa’s not here for it either.  Simplify, simplify, simplify….step by step.   She simplifies everything, and fits the pieces of the puzzle together of having the business that you want, all in one place.  She’s known as the queen of passive income and recurring revenue.  So think, courses, memberships, subscription boxes.  BUT, think about what having that as a business model gives you!   Freedom.  More certainty.  Not trading your time for money, Knowing the ballpark amount that’s going to be coming into your account every month.  I mean...how many of you would start a business now knowing that’s possible?  It absolutely is with a recurring revenue model or at least one stream of passive or semi passive income being generated.   So I’m SO excited to be partnering with her again this year on her One To Many course which is coming up SOON!   But first things first she’s running her FREE challenge from the 14th June, I talked about it last year and she's only going to be doing it once this year.     It’s called the race to recurring revenue, and over the space of a week you’re going to know with certainty if a recurring revenue model is for you.   It’s totally free and it’s NOT one of those challenges where you won’t get value from the challenge to be able to go off and start things for yourself.  You absolutely will.  But if you decide you want to go all in and join one to many after having a week immersed in the training then you’ll also get the opportunity to work with yours truly too.   More details on that in due course my friend!   The link to sign up to the race to recurring revenue challenge is in my bio on instagram, it’s in the shownotes and you can type out http://bit.ly/franandlisa and sign up from there and if you’re on my email list i’ll be talking about it plenty so you can’t miss it.   If you’ve ever wanted to start a business and this is speaking to you, just do the challenge.  You have NOTHING to lose and everything to gain by exploring it.  It can work for pretty much anyone, in any niche and it works for people with established businesses and if you don’t have your idea yet.   So let’s stop overcomplicating having the life that we really want. We only get one of them, right?!  Why not TRY!     Fx

Here’s a question for you. Would you describe your mum as sex positive? My guest today, Anita Whittaker, garnered the term “the sex positive mum you all wish you had” after appearing in  Channel 4 show ‘Mums Make Porn’. This happened after a television company read her original blog, Only Boys and A Tomboy, describing her family life in Harlesden in London with her 4 sons and husband Johann.  Anita is an award-winning mentor, speaker, journalist and community liason. She’s run children’s nurseries, been a DJ on pirate radio, had a super successful blog and Instagram account, and worked in education for 17 years, including stints on the board of charities and other organisations. Anita is a raconteur in the truest sense of the word, and it’s no great surprise that she now has her own successful podcast, Anita Whittaker and Friends. This podcast is all about women with unusual and interesting careers and lives, and she certainly fits that bill. I LOVED this interview unpacking how to identify, qualify, invite and challenge people into powerful relationships that are guaranteed to be fruitful. You can apply this to people you want to work with or employ, or people you want to invite into a discipleship group. Here's a quick summary: 1. Identify who you will work/walk with - in whose ears is your voice loud? Who do you have favor with? Who REALLY listens as evidenced by their follow-through? 2. Qualify - F.A.S.T acronym Are they faithful or flaky? Are they authentic or fake? Will they share this or are they selfish? Are they teachable or stubborn? 3. Invite them into a meeting where you share vision/purpose or plan. Outline what you are committing to do with/for them 4. Challenge them by looking them in the eye and asking "Are you ready to match my commitment?" JB:How’d you get into sales?AN: Mom wanted me to be a doctor or lawyer, so I failed there. Worked at a restaurant for 4 days as a host- want to use my brainGot a letter from Vector marketing = Cutco Knives and got my start at 18-19 years old selling knives door to doorWorked my way up, did it through college, came out and stayed JB: Talk to me about your door to door sales days, I find there is powerful learning there.AN: When you have 95% employee churn, need to get something figured out. But they have a good product. No Quit Mentality. Never quit anything until I figure it out. Used to pay me $15 per appt whether you sell anything or notFigured I would do as many appts as possibleAnd I found I was working 10X harder than anyone elseBoss- “never seen anybody have this many appointments and never sell anything...going to have to let you go”Begged and pleaded to stay - and let me LEARN how to actually do this rightIf you buy something great if not, OKNow I see the potential for $$ when I actually sell something, could get up to half of the sale and make some pretty good moneyFirst part, was following a sales processI wasn’t listening to my manager or my top repsWasn’t listening to what the best of the best do - did a lot of  ride alongs, asked a million questionsGame Changing piece for me, I had to understand WHY someone would pay that amount of money for a $200-400 knife -- that was crazy to me at 18-19 years oldWhy would the customer buy?  What are the use cases?Growing up, my parents would NEVER pay that amount of money for knives. But I figured out my pitch. Being able to truly articulate the value is what is important. Just showing up is a part of it, but that won’t deliver the results you wantComma checks, you want a check with a comma in it. I was notorious for NOT getting the comma checks. Big difference between do you WANT IT or do you Want to want it?Are you really willing to put in the work to get there?Lots of wishing, hoping and wantingJB: You mentioned you parents' perspective on how much they would spend on what you were selling growing up.  Talk to me about the mental side of sales and how your past experiences show up in your day to day selling and leadership:AN: What you can control, positive and mental health!Lots of mental health is seen as this reactive, negative thing. It can be positive, it can be preventative. LIke working out you lift maybe 5-10 more pounds to growI actively work on my brain. I use positive self talk. I don’t put myself down. I try my best to not beat myself up. Sales is HARD. It’s the hardest job in the world and can be the greatest job in the world.  It’s up to you to chooseYou’re going to put in the time. You can choose to put the time in now or in the future. You’re going to put it in regardless.  You can choose to enjoy it.The people that are 20, 30, 40 years ahead of you, are you in that time. Why don’t we enjoy the journey? Wake up everyday and get paid to talk!I’m literally helping you achieve your goals and helping companies grow and people develop skills that they never thought were possible. Control what you can control, your attitude, how much time you work, when you’re on and off your notifications on your phone and those things that make people feel bad, sad, negative. You get to choose. We need to stop blaming other people.JB: Gary Vee #1 Mindset is accountabilityAN: Social media has made a lot of bright shiny objects. A lot of people chase after what you THINK YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO or that’s the path that you think you’re supposed to do. Then you have people that say F That. I got an MBA, not at an ivy league and some people beat me up,  but I fell in love with Colorado and it was a choice that I got to make! We built a company, went through Techstars and it was great.I didn’t want to live in CA/MA/NYI want to DO IT MY WAY! I bet on myself - so far it’s worked for me today, but I don’t think enough people want to bet on themselves, they want to hedge their best with some form of diversification which I understand.Burn the boats! When you go all-in you will figure it out!I didn’t take the high paying corporate job and I ate ramen for a few years, but I figured it out. JB: Our brains are wired for safety and security. It’s worked for so long to keep ascertain and secure.  To get comfortable with uncertainty and bet on yourself is so empowering and impactful.  For the listeners; what ways can you bet on yourself? Double down on yourself and go all in on You? How do you bounce back?AN: One thing I do is FIGHT.When someone is trying to punch you in the face, you don’t think about how many emails you have in your inbox or the thing you need to do next. Do the physical activity, do what’s right for you. I can’t run 5 miles and get away from work. Do the physical activity, walks with wife in the morning through mini-commute, Covid to “walk to work”I don’t care if you just do 50 jumping jacks or pushups. Something to just move your bodyI use the Calm app, could use Headspace...I thought it was all a CROCK, wife is a yogi and into the mental things...I won’t talk bad about something without trying it, I tried a 3 minute breathing technique….I actually felt better …..5 minute….felt better. I do it to MY version and focus on what works for me. Now I’m not all in, in the park and pushing for hours, but I do what works for me. I EAT, I try to put good things in my body and be conscious about my food. Newer for me, SLEEP! I would do 4 hours of sleep and brag about it and it was great...but I ran out of gas and that will happen to you after pushing forever. It may take 5, 10, 15 years but you will RUN out of gas.I take notifications off my phone, I drown out and I control what I see and want to be interrupted with. When we go on walks we don’t bring our phones, there's literally zero way to get a hold of me which gives me really powerful mental freedomDoing activities with family and friends. I used to workout mid-day, you can break up your work day to work the way that you want and if anything try something newJB: Being able to intentionally construct/control your life is so powerful.  Seth godin, Enrollment was historically what we were signed up for vs. our active choice. In the AltMBA program we need to learn HOW to think vs. traditional schooling that told us WHAT to think. Taking control of your notifications on your phone, your walk to work are all habits to build to help your mind perform at it’s best. AN:You can’t freak out about what you don’t know. If you don’t check your email at 10PM and then lose some sleep, just avoid checking the email. It’ll still be there in the morning. I test different things. I  get up do 100 pushups every morning, workout and stretch. DO something with my uncle with pushups every morning. Everything in the startup/sales world it’s all so unstructured. In order to succeed in sales you have to put the structure around you!Bigger companies, the more structure that’s given to you. You can be very successful when you put that structure around you in order to succeedSomething that I’ve just started is this exercise starting with Strengths & Weaknesses replaced with WHAT GIVES ME ENERGY?  WHAT DRAINS MY ENERGY?! What can you do in your day to control it? You get to control everything that you do in the day. You get to structure when you have your customer calls, etc. Make a list and mark in your day/week when you’re going to do certain things that you’re going to do and delegate that or where on your priority list those things need to happen. Maybe making prospecting or cold calls is tough and put that on your calendar when you are the most ON opposed to fearing it all day and pushing it offNow you are in control of your results, your attitude, your day and feeling empowered. You’re setting yourself up for success vs. the poor me mindset that creates a downward spiral.JB: Where have you seen most sales leaders struggle in your experience?AN: As a rep, you’re rarely trained or coached so as a manager you are even more rarely trained or coached.Understand your strengths. I speak with a lot of passion, but there’s a lot of authenticity in it, because I love what I do. I love developing people. In sales I loved the game and I could come up to a prospect and show them what they were dealing with was this big giant pain, and I had a solution and showed them how to use it. They loved it and I LOVED that feeling and was obsessed with it. Now I do that similarly with sales leaders and founders. Now your team is working in a cohesive unit, the numbers are growing you’re moving in the right direction. That’s what I want and how I do it now. If you’re gonna do sales, you might as well sell something you actually enjoy, something you want to talk about and it totally changes the game. Sales leaders have to love what they’re doing. The understanding of where you’re at and as a leader your job is to help people sell more. When I think of a sales leader’s job, is to help the team sell more.  Doesn't matter if you’re director, manager, VP. Whether it’s process, roadblocks tools. And if youToo much of the time managers think it’s smooth sailing from there. Startup world managers are working 5-10X harder! The key is CARING ABOUT YOUR PEOPLE. I was a customer focused person and I realized, I’m not, I’m an employee focused person! If I’m employee focused, the customers will get their benefits. If I teach the employees correctly and do my jobI care about the people I spend 15 hours a day fighting out there doing everything I can. When someone can actually see that and see themselves improve with metrics they’ll never forget you!I want to leave a legacy that says I want to help, I want to leave this company, team in a better place vs. dude go sell some more stuff!JB: Bringing the human element in is so important. As a leadership role to help people perform at their best.  A favorite quote from a manger is “My job is to get crap out of your way to help you sell”You talk about believing in what you sell. How do you maintain confidence in what you sell in the startup world?AN:Depends on the stage of your business.  Pick because of the company, the product or the person (entrepreneur). She has worked her entire teaching career of 15 years at Alperton Community School and is now Associate Deputy Headteacher leading on staff professional development. In 2018, she won $1million when she was crowned “the best teacher in the world” by the Varkey Foundation. Using the prize money awarded by the Global Teacher prize, Andria founded a charity called Artists in Residence (AiR) with an aim to improve arts education in schools. Andria’s brand new debut book “Those Who Can, Teach: What It Takes to Make the Next Generation” is an inspiring story about what it takes to work on the frontlines of education today. A call for people to value the arts in state education, as well as a powerful reminder that a teacher ready to listen can transform a young person's life. I LOVED it. As did my mum. This show is about all things personal development. It’s about adopting a leadership mindset so that we can show up fully in all of our roles, positively impact the next generation, AND create a life we LOVE, where we feel fulfilled, and many of you know, if you’ve been a listener for a while, that I gave up alcohol, which was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, because, like a lot of moms today, I LOVED my wine. Loved it. But it has been a big part of my personal development journey, and so from time to time on the show, I talk about THAT part of my story, my complicated relationships with alcohol, my struggle giving it up, how it’s changed my life, and sometimes I like to bring in other people who can relate to this part of my journey, who are also sober, who are ALSO working on themselves and changing their life, and so today I have an inspiring interview for you with a fellow mama, someone who I personally relate to so much, Bridget Covill. Bridget is a ALSO sober mamma, she has 4 kids, she is a registered nurse, and a certified health and life coach. She was the mom who looked like she had it all together, but secretly she was just surviving. Getting sober and becoming a coach has taught her how to regain self love and acceptance and really discover who she has always been. She now have the honor of helping moms who feel like they are not enough gain back their self-confidence and find purpose in their busy life. In this inspiring episode we talk about mindset, the different ways in which we ALL buffer from pain and try to numb shame, not just drinking, but maybe it’s smoking, overeating, shopping, scrolling, checking out, the ways in which we try to feel normal and try to take control of the outcomes in our life, we talk about the thoughts, that cause us to have certain feelings, which leads to us doing things to manage those feelings, that result in outcomes we don’t want. We talk about how to change the outcomes in our life by changing our thoughts. If you are a mom who needs more motivation and inspiration and you want more confidence, and you want to live a life you LOVE, you’re going to love this episode today. On today's episode I chat with Lois Ehrmann, a Level 3 IFS therapist and frequent staff member for Susan McConnell's Somatic IFS trainings.    Lois is a grandmother extraordinaire; I want to drop the boy off at her house for a week. Or, drop off all my exhausted, overwhelmed parenting parts.   Lois has integrated IFS and Attachment therapy with families struggling with trauma. She developed a narrative method to teach parents and children the concepts of IFS which has empowered children to use the method of Insight as well as Direct Access. She is now mostly doing training and consultation as she co parents her own 3 year old granddaughter.   I LOVED this conversation with Lois.   Update and FYI- We recorded this right after the Capital Shootings. I checked with Lois this week and she is vaccinated and back at home with her family. Email Lois at loisehrmann@gmail.com to get copies of her INCREDBILE Parenting and kids workbooks. New stories in the virtual public house. Limited-edition CDs. I'm a Rover, Seldom Sober video. Who recorded on what Selcouth song. And a new hobbit single. It's all on my monthly update, Celtfather Music & Travel, show #279. 0:17  - PODCASTS I've made so many changes to the Pub Songs Podcast over the years. I'm always wondering what do I want it to be? I think I finally have a format I'm excited about. The new intro goes like this: "Welcome to the Pub Songs & Stories, the Virtual Public House where you hear the stories and inspiration behind the music." The new format solves several issues I've had. First, it gives me a way to share my music in a fun capacity, performing "live" for my listeners, in much the same way Bing Crosby would've done on the Kraft Music Hall back in the day. I can sing new recordings of songs. I can share my stories about songs too. These can be either what the song is about or just a story related to the song I'm singing in the show. This is by far the toughest thing about producing the show, coming up with engaging stories. The new format also allows me to share stories and help other musicians. I plan to feature two stories from two different artists in each episode, plus one of their songs from each. If I can get an acoustic original performance, all the better. But right now, I'm just sharing studio recordings. My goal is to help promote them in a more personal setting, again, through stories. But even better, I realized that most musicians don't have my skill with podcasting. I see this new feature as a way for musicians to sort of have their own podcast. Of course that also means I can promote to their fans as well. So it's a win-win as far as I can see... IF I can keep up with the stories. You may also note that I'm not limiting this to Celtic musicians. Instead it's gonna be around my niche Celtic AND Geek music. The new description zooms in on musicians in general. If there's  a story to be told, I might consider it. Oh! There's one more thing I am launching--limited-edition CDs. I asked Mitchell to start mixing down all of my songs in Pub Songs & Stories. Every three months or so, we will release a CD featuring the best of all of those songs. I'm also considering a possible USB which might include outtakes or song duplicates PLUS all of the podcast episodes. Again, it's limited edition. So the CD won't be available for long. 3-6 months. I though this might be another nice to fund the podcast. The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast had some killer St Patrick's Day shows this year. Episode #500 was over four hours long. I LOVED hearing all of the congrats that were sent in by artists. It was a big pick me up. The March episode of Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast featured music. No big news there.  Hopefully, Andrew and I can stay on top of upcoming shows. 4:53 - VIDEOS I think YouTube algorithms are finally understanding my channel. I'm not seeing greater subscribers yet. But the channel is mostly live shows (Coffee with The Celtfather) and I'm getting a decent number of folks watching those. I posted a couple new video singles recently. One was recorded in 2018 for the Celtic Invasion of the Isle of Skye. It's my journey from Glasgow to Inverness by train. The music is for "I'm A Rover, Seldom Sober".  I have more video singles that are coming. I also created several new Canvases for Spotify. I'm still thinking about what videos to use for which song. Slowly getting those uploaded. The next Celtfather Live concert is scheduled for Thursday, April 15. This one is "For Mother Earth". I'm not sure what songs to include on that outside of "Heart of Fangorn". But whatever. If you have any suggestions, let me know. Tickets are different this time. All you have to do is spend $8 in my Mage Records store and you will get access to the show. And of course it's free to all Heroic Gunn Runners. 7:16 - IN THE STUDIO I'm still getting tracks back from musicians for Selcouth are done. No big update just yet. But I have most of the tracks from Screeched Inn done for "Bright Side of Everything". I'm waiting on some background vocals. Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer sent their tracks for "Favor of a Dance". They sound amazing. I have an update I'm waiting on from Andrew McKee, The Irish Bard, for "By Amazing Grace". The Muckers recorded their parts for "Kilty Pleasure" but I'm still waiting for the tracks. Nathan Deese sent his recordings for "Breathing". And it's perfect! Sam Gillogly and I released a new single on March 18 called "Proudfoot Shuffle". It's already getting a lot of streams on Spotify. I also started rewriting "Happy Birthday From Ireland". I never play that song because it's rather vain based. It was a birthday song for me. So now I'm editing the lyrics to make more about all of the children of Irish immigrants who are discovering their heritage. 9:08 - MERCH Of course, I already mentioned the Pub Songs & Stories CD that'll come out probably next month. I'm planning some package deals very soon. I don't remember which package deal is first. I think it's a comedy package... Keep any eye on the store and my mailing list for details. Come join us for a lively conversation with artist Grace Zofia Alberti. Flying high off of her/they turn as a writer last season, she/they wrote the stunning Stella, she/they are participating in this season's festival as an actor. Have a ball listening in as she/they dive into her/their process and talks about where she/they hope to go with her/their artistry in the years to come! My name is Grace Zofia Alberti. I am a second year in Playwrights Horizons Theatre School as well as a Creative Writing minor in CAS. I am (ahem) a multi-hyphenate, as they call us - I really, fully enjoy every single aspect of theatre, from directing to design to performing to writing to stage management to publicity to dramaturgy to whatevertheheck. It is all my favorite. As a kid, I performed in lots of embarrassing community, school, and children's theatre, but in 2016, at the age of 15, I figured out that while I LOVED theatre, I was very, very bored by it in the way it had been made available to me, and thus, started a non-profit theatre company with my friends called Ad Astra Theatre Troupe (www.adastratroupe.org)! With it, I directed two shows, a production of Peter/Wendy by Jeremy Bloom in 2017, and a play I co-wrote called Uprising with Lale Davidson and Jul LeCours (my now writing partner) in 2018. We were invited to tour Uprising to two other venues later that year, and the play is now in the process of being re-drafted as we feel Older and Smarter than our teenage writer selves. In 2019, Ad Astra performed an adaptation of Trojan Women by Jul LeCours and Padraig Bond, in which I was both producer and Hecuba. Last winter, pre-COVID, Jul (my writing partner) and I ran a two-session writing workshop with the company, and they're still making work, having been passed on to younger students. Ad Astra's 5th season is currently in motion! Since then, it's been mostly college theatre nonsense (co-direction of the play Earthquakes in London with My Le), you, my Broke Theatre Fest (Actor - Complementary, something rather than nothing; Writer - Stella), and some voice over work for Jul's animated play if this is bad don't tell me, available on YouTube

I have been a huge fan of the Tim Ferriss Show lately because I love the long-from interviews with world-class performers as Tim dissects how they accomplished what they've accomplished. I LOVED a recent interview with Kelly Slater. If you've never heard of Kelly Slater, he's an 11-time world surfing champion and highly regarded as the GOAT in the sport. I listened to Kelly's interview and was mesmerized by his mindset, attention to detail in his craft and his health, and most importantly, the simplicity of life he lives. I have two life lessons to share from Kelly that really impacted mine.Tim was asking about Kelly's goals. Kelly response was awesome. He shared how nice it is to be in a position where he can mentor the young guys in the sport as he loves the sport and wants to be an ambassador. He stressed how vital it is for him to "always stay humble because when you're humble, you're teachable. When you're teachable, you can continue growing." He said the best way to learn is by teaching. Kelly went on to say. "If you think you know something, go teach it. That's when you will really know it." There is SO much wisdom in Kelly's words that I want to repeat it. Are you humble? Are you teachable? Are you learning and growing? Are you taking what you know and teaching it to others? This is the process of becoming the best in the world. I am not the best at this, but I am doing my best to teach you all what I know through this learning vehicle called a podcast. I find it amazing that I am constantly learning more by teaching it to you!In a latter question, Tim Ferriss asked Kelly about money and houses. Kelly stated that he is the middle child, but was forced to become the family leader because other members of his family had emotional and other issues. Kelly has made gobs of money over the years. Wikipedia reports his career surfing earnings over $4M! He shared his love for traveling and the many homes he's purchased in multiple countries over the years. Tim asked Kelly what his happy ending looks like. I love Kelly's answer as it reminds me of the "Mexican Fisherman". I'll paraphrase. The happy ending comes when all the lessons are learned. Kelly has done it all, spent a lot of money, but it never lead to happiness. He joked that what he'd love to do is simply buy a simple van and travel around to his surfing events in it, keeping a simple life of competitive surfing and helping others in his sport. He has learned so much in his 49 years and wants to stay humble, stay teachable, stay learning, and stay teaching. Over a lifetime, he'll collect a book of lessons and that's how he defined a "happy ending". This is beautiful. This episode is a self-check. Are you humble, teachable, learning, and teaching others? If you are not, these podcasts are a waste of your time. If you are not, you'll never grow your cleaning business beyond where it is now. Sure, it may grow short-term, but it will crumble in the long-term. I urge you to ask those that know you best if they think you're humble and teachable. This is the 2nd window from "The Four Windows". Once you know and get honest with yourself, make the decision to get better. Go and learn the lessons you need to learn to lead toward your happy ending. Then teach it to others and be a difference maker.Would you like to figure out what makes you tick and how to create an action plan for 2021 that will enable you to WIN?! Over the next two episodes I thought it would be fun to go back through the interviews that I did from this season and pull from them the lessons that I have learned from all of my incredible guests. I have always said and believe that there is something to learn and be grateful for every single day, and doing this podcast has proven that to me over and over again. Everyone has a story, their own hard beautiful journey and by telling these stories and our journey's, we may be lifting someone up that really needed it but didn't know how to ask.   For this episode I will be discussing episodes 17 to 25 and I can't wait to dive in!!   On EP17 my friend Stacey joined me to talk about her experience with divorce and finding out her husband was having an affair and what that journey looked like for not only her but also for her two girls. Stacey helped me remember that even though these things can happen, it doesn't have to be the end of your happiness....that you can move on and still live your life to the fullest.....   On EP18 my beautiful friend (and neighbour) Chenoa joined me to share her journey of giving her son up for adoption at birth and then reconnecting with him in 2020 and the rollercoaster of emotions that took place. Chenoa reminded me that there is always two sides to a story, and in the case of a child, both the birth mother and birth father's feelings need to be considered. That was a big aha for me with my ongoing search for my half sister.   On EP19 I invited my therapist and "my Jenna" onto the podcast to talk about her role in helping me through one of the darkest times of my life. It was with Jenna that I was asked for the first time - what are you going to do with these struggles - you've shown what you can do for yourself and your family - what can you do to help others with what you've learned. Jenna was the one who first knew that I was supposed to use my voice and find a path and a way to connect with and guide other people. It was through her encouragement and others close to me that I decided to be vulnerable and put our story out there.   On EP20 my incredible cousin James was here and I loved every minute of our conversation....James was here to talk about his own management of his mental health and what that has looked like for him over the past few years. James taught me that men, teachers, athletes....all go through the same mental health battles as everyone else, and if you are a boy, a young man, a grown man - that it is OK to ask for help and it's ok to not be ok.....and it's MOST definitely ok for you to cry - Vulnerability can be your strength.   On EP21 I had my sweet friend Tina on the show to talk about her hard beautiful journey and wow....she has been through some things for sure. From going through two divorces as a young woman, to an infertility battle, to then losing two of her sisters to breast cancer, Tina taught me that you can take matters into your hands when it comes to preventing cancer, especially when it has had such a devastating impact on her families life.   On EP22 I had my mentor and soul coach Bree-Anna Vincent on the podcast to give my listeners an insight into what it is I am currently working on and what soul coaching is all about. I could go on literally for HOURS about what lessons I have learned from Bree-Anna but the number one would be that we are Human BEINGS, not Human DOINGS. That it's absolutely critical that we learn to connect with ourselves and understand who we are at our core.   EP23 - On EP23 I had the wonderful Tonya Woolford on my podcast and I LOVED our conversation about what she is doing as a Death Doula or Death Walker. It is such an important role that she fills in the lives of those people that are nearing the end of their human experience and to help them transition. Not only does she provide comfort to the dying person, she is also there to support the family and friends of her clients. What I learned from Tonya is that by becoming more comfortable with the idea of death (because really, none of us can escape it), you can actually learn to enjoy your life more and it not be a source of dread your whole life and experience joy more deeply.   On EP24 I had the lovely Mandy Balak here with me and she was incredible to talk to. Mandy and I talked about the RISE Lake Louise conference that her company ACE Collective put on, in the middle of a pandemic no less, and how that experience was from both of our perspectives. What I learned from Mandy is that even in the middle of a global pandemic, with all things stacked against you, it is possible to rise, it is possible to get back up and succeed in whatever you want to achieve.   On EP25 I had the absolutely HILARIOUS and beautiful soul Jenny B here with me.....what a blast. Besides being so incredibly funny, she has a heart of gold and I loved getting to know her better. Jenny taught me that it is ok to be vulnerable and share your story in front of a large group of people and even ugly snot cry too.....because there is going to be someone else in the room that has felt the same way (like she did for me). And she taught me that it is always critical for a woman to carry a set of car tweezers with them at all times.   On the next episode I will share the lessons I learned from episodes 26 to 33!     Follow me on Social!   Instagram - mstiffvaughan   Facebook - mstiffvaughan   Facebook Private Group for Hard Beautiful Journey is HERE.  Please come join us!

WELCOME BACK TO SEASON 5 of the GWA PODCAST! In episode 53 of The Great Women Artists Podcast, Katy Hessel interviews the renowned curator and executive director of the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, Elizabeth Smith, on the trailblazing and legendary HELEN FRANKENTHALER (1928–2011) !!!! [This episode is brought to you by Alighieri jewellery: www.alighieri.co.uk | use the code TGWA at checkout for 10% off!] With a career spanning six decades, Helen Frankenthaler has long been recognized as one of the great American artists of the twentieth century. A member of the second generation of postwar American abstract painters, she is widely credited with playing a pivotal role in the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Color Field painting. Through her invention of the soak-stain technique, she expanded the possibilities of abstraction, while at times referencing figuration and landscape in highly personal ways. She produced a body of work whose impact on contemporary art has been profound and continues to grow. Born on December 12, 1928, and raised in New York. She attended the Dalton School, where she received her earliest art instruction from Rufino Tamayo. In 1949 she graduated from Bennington College, and by the early 1950s had entered into the Downtown New York Art Scene. Exhibiting at the infamous Ninth Street Show in 1951 (alongside Krasner, Mitchell, and others), Frankenthaler's breakthrough came in 1952 when she created Mountains and Sea, her first soak-stain painting. She poured thinned paint directly onto raw, unprimed canvas laid on the studio floor, working from all sides to create floating fields of translucent colour. The work catalysed the Colour Field School and was particularly influential for artists of her generation. In 1959, Frankenthaler had won first prize at the Premiere Biennale de Paris, by 1960 had her first major solo exhibition at the Jewish Museum in New York, and by 1969 was one of four artists to represent America at the Venice Biennale. Oh! AND she had a Whitney Museum solo exhibition of the same year. She was invisible. I LOVED recording this episode with Elizabeth Smith about the fascinating life and work of Frankenthaler. ENJOY!!! Works discussed: Nature Abhors a Vacuum, 1973 Cloud Burst, 2002 Pink Lady, 1963 Mountains and Sea, 1952 Jacob's Ladder, 1957 Flood, 1967 FURTHER LINKS! https://www.frankenthalerfoundation.org/artworks/paintings https://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/2021/may/helen-frankenthaler-radical-beauty/ https://www.guggenheim.org/artwork/artist/Helen-Frankenthaler https://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-modern/display/studio/helen-frankenthaler https://gagosian.com/news/museum-exhibitions/pittura-panorama-paintings-by-helen-frankenthaler-museo-di-palazzo-grimani-venice/ Follow us: Katy Hessel: @thegreatwomenartists / @katy.hessel Sound editing by Laura Hendry Artwork by @thisisaliceskinner Music by Ben Wetherfield https://www.thegreatwomenartists.com/

Kristin Neff, is one of the world’s leading self-compassion experts and one of the first to conduct scientific research on the benefits of self-compassion and how it can change your life. Life is messy and none of us is perfect, which is why approaching the journey — both ours and others’ — with gentleness and kindness is so important to being healthy! “The biggest problem with self-esteem is it’s contingent on success.” - Dr. Kristin Neff   “The word ‘compassion’ by definition is a connected stance.” - Dr. Kristin Neff   “I know from practicing The Adult Chair, where we’re mindful, we practice self-compassion, we’re living in the moment, we’re tuning into the moment...it gets easier.” - Michelle Chalfant   “What reminds you to practice self-compassion is your suffering.” - Dr. Kristin Neff   “I really changed myself through self-compassion.” - Michelle Chalfant   Resources   Dr. Kristin Neff Website https://self-compassion.org/   “Fierce Self-Compassion” (Kristin Neff Book - Pre-Order) https://www.amazon.com/Fierce-Self-Compassion-Harness-Kindness-Thrive/dp/006299106X   The Adult Chair Membership: $1 offer Use promo code “ANITA” to try your first month for $1 February Theme = “I Love.” https://theadultchair.com/membership/   TAC Circles https://theadultchair.com/taccircles/ (Previously “TAC Gatherings”)   More Adult Chair   The Adult Chair Website https://theadultchair.com    The Adult Chair Membership https://theadultchair.com/membership/   The Adult Chair Workshop https://theadultchair.com/events/   The Adult Chair Coaching Certification https://theadultchair.com/certification-program/   TAC Circles https://theadultchair.com/taccircles/ (Previously “TAC Gatherings”)   Stay Connected   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michelle.chalfant   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MichelleChalfantFanPage/   The Adult Chair Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theadultchair/   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Michellechalfant   ***   EPISODE CREDITS:   If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment. SIBO Post C-Section [11:39] Jaimie says: Hi Robb and Nikki! Love your passion and information for this podcast! I'm looking for some help with diving through the endless research and information on SIBO. A little background: I'm 34, and in January had my second baby. This time around I had to have a c-section due to a previous abdominal surgery. I have followed a pretty holistic lifestyle for the last 10 years, and typically eat a paleo diet. I couldn't tell you the last time I had antibiotics until this surgery.  A week post op my incision ended up getting infected, and I took another round of antibiotics. I'm not one to take pain meds, but did rotate Ibuprofen and tylenol for pain post op. Of course, this all reeked havoc on my gut. I never had gut issues and started to notice a lot of things changing postpartum. A month ago, I saw a functional med NP who did some labs and I did a stool sample. A few weeks ago we reviewed the results. I have sibo- methane predominant, as well as H. pylori... there were other things like E. coli, parasite(EEEK!), and other digestive enzymes that were off. Basically, the NP said that for right now because I'm breastfeeding I can't really take anything for the SIBO, but to try and just focus on my diet. Being the perfectionist that I am cannot settle for that :) I've been researching some things on SIBO and came across a podcast by Kresser. They were discussing the supplement ATRANTIL. They discussed some case studies on it and the positives, but I'm curious if you are familiar with this product and what the research says? Also, What are your thoughts on taking this while breastfeeding? Of course it hasn't been studied, but if Nikki had SIBO what would you do? :) Thanks so much and keep up the great work!   2. Colonoscopy Prep [15:04] Eric says: Robb and Nicki, Thanks for all the hard work you guys put into this community.  I have been following Robbs' work for many years now.  I did stop eating a whole food diet slowly over the last 6 years.  I am getting back into it and love how I am feeling and doing. On to my questions: I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy next month. Do you have any recommendations for the prepping for the procedure?  I was thinking about using LMNT instead of the sports drink recommendation would this be ok?  Also, any recommendations on things I can do after the procedure to improve my gut? Information about me 40 years of age 5' 10" 225 pounds   3. Quality of Intestinal Gasses on Probiotics [17:59] Michal says: Hi Robb! I've been a huge fan of your as well as your podcast for some 4 months now. Listened to almost all archive talks of yours and read Wired to Eat. The only reason I haven't yet subscrive to the Healthy Rebellion is I'm a loner and don't really dig communities. The reason I am writing to you is the recent finding of mine. I had a bad gut microba for years. I didn't need any hard research on it, neither did I test it. I just knew it was bad by how I felt all the time not to mention how I felt after eating most things. Bloated, gassy with impossible acidic reflux and often loose stool. I knew I needed to improve my gut health and invested in probiotics (namely NOW's 25B portion). On top of that I also bought myself pickled veggies: a mix of salads, pickled kimchi, pickled carrots and whatnot. To my surprise I am way less bloated, less gassy and with firmer stool. The biggest surprise, however, is the quality of those gases. I am not a fart expert, by any means, but the change is visible. Until I picked up massive ammounts of probiotics, my gasses were frequent, smelly (af) and kind of soft. Like a 'puff' sound. Now they are less frequent and less smelly but more pronounced. They are shorter in duration, a bit louder and, sort of, trumpet like. It feels great. My guess is the last thing you want in your email is reading about some guy's in Poland gasses but I thought you might have some insights into this. Is it normal? How come my gasses changed just by adding microbiota and live bacteria to my gut? I'd love to learn more, especially since I heard that gut is being thought of as our second brain (sometimes the first) due to its influence of and regulation over, well, basically everything. Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers from Poland. Michal   4. Practicality of Bulking on Keto [27:27] Alex says: Dear Robb & Nicki, -I am male -29 years old -5'4'' -probably around 11% body fat (at the time of writing this) -relatively strong: can squat and pull a little more than 2x bodyweight, strict muscle-ups, etc., etc. My question is about the efficacy of bulking with a ketogenic diet. I am not currently following a keto diet. I have never done any kind of glucose monitoring, but I'm assuming that I tolerate carbs pretty well because I would not feel noticeably worse if I were to consume a ton of carbs. Now, I would really like to get as jacked as possible, and I hate the traditional bulking and cutting cycle. Robb frequently mentions the Ketogains folks, and I know Luis Villasenor talks about this idea of "gaintaining" - or continually building lean mass, which sounds way more preferable to me even if the progress is dramatically slower than a conventional carb-heavy bulk. I would love to just stay lean year-round and not have to do maintenance and cutting cycles. I understand it is also perhaps a little more challenging to bulk on keto because the food is much more satiating. I've been using the RP Diet app for the past couple of years and I like it a lot actually, I'm pretty happy with my body composition - but if this "gaintaining" thing is a real option I would be seriously interested in trying it. I follow Power Athlete's Jacked Street program and I know John has this "you don't need more carbs than you need" philosophy, but he has also said carbs are pretty much essential for bulking, and that dude knows a thing or two about bulking. With the conventional bulk/cut approach I often feel like I'm taking one step forward and then 9/10 of a step back. It just occurred to me that I think I forgot to include my bodyweight in my initial question. It's currently about 141 lbs, don't know how relevant that is. My goal is to get down to about 10% body fat so that I can attack this bulk with everything I've got. P.S. - I LOVED the Salty Talk on the Great Barrington Declaration. I do find what you guys do to be valuable and listening to you on a weekly basis is extremely cathartic. You two are the voices of reason in this absolutely insane time we live in. You've mentioned the mental health consequences of this Covid lockdown many times and I don't know that I could have managed without this podcast. Thank you and keep up the amazing work. XOXO, Alex   5. Thoughts on Anti-Histamines? [34:35] Craig says: Hey Robb and Nicki! A couple questions on anti-histamines (Benadryl or Zyrtec) for allergies - do they have broader effects on reducing inflammation? Is there a danger around taking antihistamines regularly? Thanks in advance! Craig https://journals.physiology.org/doi/full/10.1152/physrev.00043.2007 https://www.healio.com/news/pediatrics/20191116/antihistamines-part-ii-longterm-adverse-effects#:~:text=Commonly%20used%20first%2Dgeneration%20antihistamines,the%20risk%20for%20developing%20dementia.
