Johnny FD is a very successful location independent entrepreneur who left a well compensated job in California and moved to Thailand to follow his passions. He first worked as a scuba diver and later on became a professional Muay Thai fighter. In 2013, he started his first ever online venture, a book which he published on Amazon Kindle. He was also able to successfully replace his 9 - 5 income by starting a drop shipping store. After selling his drop shipping store for $60, 000, he invested the money into growing a passive income. Since then, Johnny has sold 3 more stores and has generated over a million dollars in income from his online businesses. The successful digital nomad has also been travelling the world (he has visited over 50 countries so far) and has been earning over six figures ($150, 000 or more) each year from his online ventures. Even while always on the move, Johnny is still actively investing and creating new streams of passive income. He chronicles and shares his experiences as a digital nomad and online entrepreneur on his blog JohnnyFD.com as well as on his podcast “Travel Like a Boss Podcast.” In his latest book Life Changes Quick, Johnny shared how he started his online business, how he got in the best shape of his life, and how to succeed in all aspects of life, among many others. Johnny also gives back by teaching others how to create their own income, monetise their online brand, and become their own boss through his course Income Boss. He also hosts the annual Nomad Summit conference. Thanks to his success as a digital nomad and entrepreneur, Johnny has been featured on the Business Insider, Entrepreneur, BBC, The Balance, Fast Company, and other publications.   This week’s episode talks about how Johnny was able to afford living in Southeast Asia while working from his laptop, how he forms real and deep friendships despite being independent and constantly on the move, and what he recommends in terms of personal development. Johnny also shares his recommendations for those who are looking to make the big move, what passive income is and what it takes to set one up, and his advice for people who would like to live a lifestyle similar to his. On being a digital nomad, Johnny FD has this to say, “To be honest, I think the best life for a digital nomad is to not get too comfortable in one place yet balancing not travelling too often.”

My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who has really turned his life into the one that he wanted by taking bold actions. He is a traveling entrepreneur, the host of the Travel Like A Boss podcast, the founder of the Johnnyfd travel blog and probably is waking up with a smile everyday of the week too. As he says "I was born in San Francisco which is an amazing place to live, but wasn't the best place to grow up. I battled with fitting in, self image issues, and trying way too hard to be someone I wasn't throughout my childhood. After graduating from University of California I started working a corporate job, but wasn't happy. Something was missing and I didn't know what it was. In 2006 I discovered the self help scene which ultimately lead me to the 4-Hour Workweek and gave me the courage to move to Thailand in 2008 and pursue my first ever real passion, which was scuba diving. I began being a traveling entrepreneur when traveled around the world from Australia, Borneo, all across South East Asia to the Caribbeans working as a divemaster and scuba instructor but in 2011 I decided to focus on my second found passion, Muay Thai kickboxing. After six professional fights and years of living as cheaply as possible, I turned 30 and realized I couldn't even afford a plane ticket home if I wanted to." And that is where we will start todays show. So what do you do when you realise that you are at a crossroads in your life and you've got nothing in the bank to ease the way to future adventures? And now he is living the life that he wanted, is it always a happy day in his life, or does he still have moments of "Really, im not sure Ill want to be doing this for another ten years"? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Johnny FD Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Johnny FD such as: Johnny shares the reasons why he was glad that he experienced corporate life in California and nowhere else as he already was living the dream and it wasn't good. We talk about the period of flatness when the challenge of building a traveling entrepreneur business is replaced by success and you think "This should feel better than it does??" Johnny shares the moment when he realised that he needed to get away from the naysayers and doom mongers in his life or he would be stuck forever. and lastly…. Why Johnny is so glad that he documented so much of his journey, so he can always go back and see the realism of what he went through.

The 6 Packs w/Expats is a podcast by CP Travels which discusses global politics, fashion trends, myths, or just share stories about their time abroad hosted by Carl and Patrick. Travel Like A Boss podcast is the radio show all about traveling like a boss by being your own boss - featuring guests that have built their own online businesses. This podcast is hosted by Johnny FD. The Expat Happy Hour is the podcast that draws on the realities of expat life to offer you smart and simple solutions so that you can quickly (and painlessly!) adapt. The point of the Travel Wisdom podcast is that traveling can be more than a vacation but a learning experience and that traveling can be an investment into your future. This podcast is hosted by my good friend Ladan Jiracek. Look for an upcoming course on the Hero's journey by Ladan and I in the near future. I had a great interview with Ladan on The Art of Adventure about what he learned from visiting 80 countries.  Ladan was the organizer of putting these podcast promo together! Johnny FD is the host of Travel Like A Boss Podcast and Author of '12 Weeks in Thailand: The Good Life on the Cheap'. We talk about how he got to making $10k per month, selling his first dropshipping store for $60k, the shopify dropshipping method vs the Amazon FBA importing method, his Travel Like a Boss Podcast, and his tips for getting started as a digital nomad. Johnny's the one who basically got us out to Chiang Mai to join the digital nomad community, therefore changing our lives forever, so this is a special one. Like many of us out here, we first heard about Chiang May by stumbing upon his youtube video 'My $200 Apartment in Chiang Mai', and from there discovered his blog about living cheap in Thailand and making a living online thru dropshipping ecommerce businesses. Soon after following his blog, he and Anton Kraly of DropshipLifestyle.com announced that they were putting on a Digtial Nomad conference in Chiang Mai in October 2014. This was crucial for us cuz it marked a deadline on our calendar to quit our jobs and make that jump out to Thailand, and the dream of extended world travel. We met 100 other digital nomads there, some new, some experienced, and we just payed attention to what people were doing, and the rest is history. I will thank Johnny & Anton forever for putting on the retreat cuz it was the perfect excuse to get out there and make things happen. Now I feel like I'm on vacation everyday: I wake up when I want, eat out 3 meals a day, choose my own working hours, and get to be constantly surrounded by palm trees, exotic cultures, and happy people. Thanks boys -- 8:40 - How Johnny & Anton got us out to Chiang Mai and changed our lives: The Dropship Lifestyle Retreat, October 2014 19:00 - How much did Johnny make last month?
