In this conversation, I speak to Michelle MiJung Kim. She is a queer Korean American immigrant woman writer, speaker, activist, and entrepreneur. She the author of the award winning, The Wake Up: Closing the Gap Between Good Intentions and Real ChangeMichelle is the first non-therapist I have on the podcast for some time. I have been inspired by her advocacy and activism, specially so in the last several weeks as it relates to Palestine. We talk about her lived experiences and how they have shaped her relationship to silence and speaking, her holding and oscillating between compassion and criticality for herself and others. We also talk about DEI work, her thoughts on how it relates to social justice, and the cognitive dissonance of the private and the corporate.Michelle also shares about her first session in therapy, which I think many of us can relate to.I hope our conversation help spark reflections on your relationship to speaking and silence. And, that perhaps it moves you to speak (more) and (continue) take action when you feel called for, even if new, uncomfortable or even risky at times. Let Michele and I know how our conversation resonates with you. It helps us keep going. And, share this conversation with others. @michelekimkim@asiansdotherapySpecific Michelle's IG post mentioned:https://tinyurl.com/e3wem6skhttps://tinyurl.com/yeyu7hbchttps://tinyurl.com/5n7rurywThe documentary mentioned is called The Occupation of the American Mind:https://tinyurl.com/3m33cj7mMichelle MiJung Kim (she/her) is a queer Korean American immigrant woman writer, speaker, and activist. Check out the latest episode of our Conversational Selling podcast to learn more about Jessie. In this episode, Nancy and Jessie discuss the following:How to make the most out of LinkedIn.Master the art of selling on LinkedIn without sounding too pushy.Understand how building connections on LinkedIn can lead to successful sales.Explore why the term 'sales' often has a negative perception.Determine the ideal posting frequency on LinkedIn for optimal results.Gain insights into the algorithms that LinkedIn uses to block certain accounts.Avoid common mistakes when creating content on LinkedIn to enhance engagement.Key Takeaways: You never know who's watching on LinkedIn because people are scrolling the feed and waiting for that message or content to help them act.Sales has a negative connotation because people often think about the door-to-door salesman or woman, car sales dealers, etc.To sell your stuff to your audience, people need to see it. That's why reactions are essential.A lesson that I learned over time is that you want to let a post-run for a few days because if a post does well, even a week later, it could still reach new people.I am like, "Hey, educational content is great, but move towards more authority-building content, and then we can transform it into lead-generating content.""I would say the traditional thinking of LinkedIn is that it's still a place where people share updates about new jobs or certain company updates. I had that too out of sight till about three years back, but I also figured out that LinkedIn is still the number one business platform in the world. And as we see with all the content platforms, like the social media platforms, there is a big drive towards content creation. I started writing online, and at a certain point, I wondered why not go to LinkedIn. Because as I just said, there are so many decision-makers, potential people watching there waiting for that, waiting for the call to action also say." – JESSIE"One of the frameworks that I heavily use for myself and my clients is the acronym FODOFs. It stands for fear, objections, desire, obstacles, and frustrations. Of course, we don't want to always use them all in one piece of content, but by strategically using each for a specific type of content, we can show our audience or our prospect that we understand them." – JESSIE. "I hear that perspective, and I would say earlier on in my career, I also had this notion that selling is bad or self-promoting is bad. So, I had to debunk that for myself. And now I believe that if you genuinely know that you, your service, or your product is helping your audience or your clients, it's almost a disservice not to tell them about it because I know I solve a very hot topic, like lead generation on LinkedIn. And I know that I help a lot of people with that. Like if I look at my clients' results, I'm helping them get more business. I'm helping them make more money. So sure, like I'm selling to my audience, but I also know that the right people were like: "Hey, this really helps me!". And I think that's for all of us. Like if we know that because that's what entrepreneurship at its core is, right? It's like, someone has a problem, someone else has a solution, and it's either a service or a product that helps them get from A to B." – JESSIE. With a mix of in-the-trenches narrative and accessible unpacking of hot button issues—from inclusive language to representation to "cancel culture"—Michelle MiJung Kim offers sustainable frameworks that guide us how to think, approach, and be in the journey as thoughtfully and powerfully as possible. The Wake Up is divided into four key parts:- Grounding: begin by moving beyond good intentions to interrogating our deeper “why” for committing to social justice and uncovering our "hidden stories."- Orienting: establish a shared understanding around our historical and current context and issues we are trying to solve, starting with dismantling white supremacy.- Showing Up: learn critical principles to approach any situation with clarity and build our capacity to work through complexity, nuance, conflict, and imperfections.- Moving Together: remember the core of this work is about human lives, and commit to prioritizing humanity, healing, and community. The Wake Up is an urgent call for us to move together while seeing each other's full and expansive humanity that is at the core of our movement toward justice, healing, and freedom.Meet Michelle:Instagram: @michellekimkimTwitter: @mjmichellekimLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/mjmichellekim// Support Dear Asian Americans:Merch: https://www.bonfire.com/store/dearasianamericans/Buy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/jerrywonLearn more about DAA Creator and Host Jerry Won:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jerrywon/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jerryjwon/// Listen to Dear Asian Americans on all major platforms:Transistor.fm: http://www.dearasianamericans.comApple: https://apple.dearasianamericans.comSpotify: https://spotify.dearasianamericans.comStitcher: https://stitcher.dearasianamericans.comGoogle: https://google.dearasianamericans.com Follow us on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/dearasianamericans Like us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/dearasianamericans Subscribe to our YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/dearasianamericans // Join the Asian Podcast Network:Web: https://asianpodcastnetwork.com/Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/asianpodcastnetwork/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/asianpodcastnetwork/Dear Asian Americans is produced by Just Like Media:Web: http://www.justlikemedia.comInstagram.com: http://www.instagram.com/justlikemedia

Hello Soul Family, Lately CORD CUTTING has been a BIG theme in my world. It's also the first New Moon of the year--so it's the perfect time for a cord cutting. All of my new clients have been guided to perform much needed cord cutting prior to working with me in healing and starting their Evolve Now Programs, and older clients in the extended program have also been guided to work on their cord cutting. Honestly, I believe it's connected to a few other factors going on energetically at this time-one of those things being that it's the Capricorn New Moon. But it doesn't matter when you're guided to do this practice, anytime you do it is the PERFECT time to do it. If you are new to my Cord Cutting information/podcasts, etc, my episodes 82 & 83 are the ones that I did in May of 2020, but I was just guided to do an updated version for 2021, and of course it lands on today, 1.12.2021. I did my best to keep it short before the meditation, because I go into great detail in those prior episodes, please listen to episode 82 prior to doing listening to and doing this guided meditation. I also just published a new E-Book that's available on my website for download, it contains some of the information on my website, but again--I was guided to do a lot of updates, so there's new information there as well. Read it to learn more about how energy cords work and why you should do this practice, and who you should cut cords from. Enjoy! P.S. Don't forget to check out the Cord Cutting E-Book available on my website! Michelle is a queer social justice activist, and is currently the CEO of Awaken, which provides interactive DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) workshops for a number of leading tech companies across the US.
