Following the widespread protests against police brutality following the killing of George Floyd, London Breed the mayor of San Francisco announced an unprecedented citywide curfew on Sunday, May 31. In the next few days hundreds of thousands of dollars in police overtime would be spent enforcing this clear suppression of free speech to arrest a handful of peaceful protestors. The following Tuesday June 2, Democratic Socialists of America and other supporters demonstrated against the curfew with a sit-in. 27 demonstrators and a journalist were arrested. The next day the curfew order was lifted. We spoke with one of the demonstrators about what happened that night.

Hosts Monica and Greg interview P.T./Ph.D. student Morgan Jennings about her work on virtual visits for individuals post-knee surgery. Started before the COVID-19 pandemic (and before virtual visits became more popular), Morgan’s research has been focused on developing an app to identify knee wounds post-surgery and identify if someone would need to visit a physician for a follow-up appointment in order to reduce unnecessary appointments for patients. Morgan also talks about her work at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, how that work inspired her Master’s and current Ph.D. research, and what she hopes for her future in evidence-based practice. On this day one year ago Makala's life changed forever, and she was only sixteen. She was sexually assaulted and knew her attacker. She had injuries that made it hard for her to walk. She spent days in her room sometimes unable to process everything she was feeling emotionally and mentally. She spent her junior year of high school in and out of court, in the hospital, in counseling, and so much more. Despite how this could have broken her, she did not let it. She began to do the work. It may have changed her, but it would not define who she was. She made the choice to be a survivor. This is not the story of a stranger, but the story of my child. Survivors of sexual assault who publicly speak out create change in the silence that surrounds this crime. Makala's act of speaking out can end the false sense of shame that survivors often carry. Her hope is that she may cast off the shame and inspire others to tell their stories. Join myself, Makala, and the rest of my family in celebrating New Chapter Days as we celebrate Mookie taking her power back, speaking out about her assault, and celebrating life. Tune in today, Tuesday June 30, for the third episode of ReDeeFined.

PREPARE FOR SOMETHING..........Well, you know the rest. This is that episode. I watch something (or try to keep my attention on the flick anyway, but it's kind of rough), while recording my reactions. It's not a group pod, nor is this a proper commentary to the groundbreaking cinematic achievement of the seventh art known as Impractical Jokahs: The Movie. The flick is an hour and 33 minutes long. This is the whittled down watch along of that. I originally recorded for 2 hours, with brief intermissions where I just walked away from the flick. Didn't miss much. This is my 3rd viewing of the flick, as I will explain. I probably won't revisit it for a couple few years. If you want to get technical, I start the movie at 9 minutes and 11 seconds into the pod, if you want to sync up. From there I probably cut out a lot of nose or chewing almonds or a bagel I had during this enthralling cinematic experience. Prior to the flick starting, I start with a little reactions concerning Zoom culture. More on that later. The next 2 episodes are blasts from the past, I just had to get this IJ flick thing up just as a spur of the moment thing. The flick came out last week I think. I watched it exactly one week ago or so I think. Took me this long to edit because of reasons. Stay tuned for some more current episodes of Roaming Reigns. So this flick has a PG-13 rating.  It dropped February 21, 2020. I was there opening day! Still haven't gotten my 100 mile club sweatshirt, TruTV! Anyway, It's got a 6/10 stars on IMDB and it has a 38% (SO CLOSE TO A NOOCH JOKE!) on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score sits at 76%. The DVD came out last Tuesday June 16th. So, I got this on Wednesday morning and watched it that afternoon. What follows is the strange descent into the oddball flick based on the hit tv show, the Impractical Jokers. I've seen this movie thrice, and it's still vexing. It french fried when it should've pizza'd. Thus, you're gonna have a bad time. I would or could expound on how I would improve this flick, or where it hit or miss for me, but I'm not an auteur, I'm not a screenwriter, actor, director. I just like flicks. I wanted to like this one. I mean I paid for it 3 times. In the world of the interwebz, that gives you carte blanche to chime in. I'm not trying to knock down the 4 dudes. I like the show. Yucks a plenty. Not very complex humour or comedy. It works. The movie was this whole different thing. Will it age well? Only time will tell. This is only my opinion, as only I can present it. Unbiased. Acerbic. Jokey. Hey, you'll hear me laugh like a braying donkey in this a few times, so mission accomplished. The world needs more laughter, less bullshit right now. Won't you come along for the ride? I mean, if you have the movie. If not, listen to me kind of sort of describe the movie, with unbridled enthusiasm and almost a childlike fascination for the laughs contained and forever preserved on celluloid or digital files whatever they shot this on. Next week or so, I return with the real shiz. Until then....give it a listen. Tell yer budz. Tweet @RoamingReignz. Email dead_rufio@yahoo.com. I've been off socials for almost 90 days. 88 days as of today. I might celebrate Saturday (and my niece's birthday too!) Stay safe, stay healthy, stay sane. Don't drink and Zoom! Obama said “We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths –- that all of us are created equal –- is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall.” In context, it’s clear that Obama was not advocating rioting. Indeed, just days ago he issued a statement condemning the current spate of looting and violence. The family of George Floyd has also pleaded for rioting to stop: So how many other Democrats believe that rioting and looting is ‘a march toward progress’? On Monday, President Trump issued a stark warning to Democratic governors that if they act ‘weak’ and do not act to stop the violence he will step in and mobilise all federal and military personnel at his disposal. THIS IS A COMMUNIST INSURRECTION – Massive Propaganda Campaign Is A Big Part Of It – The Pete Santilli Show http://ow.ly/oROk30qLSQE

Anyone else feeling the silent weight of social media lately?   I am!   This is not business as usual and social media is making me feel all of the emotions… Frustrated. Overwhelmed. Angry!   Today, I spoke to a friend about taking a social media break and she reminded me that if I want people to come to our free discussion on Tuesday June 23rd I have to show up and show up in a big way!   And then she went on to say “It’s totally okay if you don’t want to show up. We can wait to have the discussion when you return.”   Well I silently cursed her out!   And then I silently cursed myself out...   Because she was right!   If I want to have this virtual conversation to help dance educators use their voice to create racial consciousness in their dance classroom/studio, I have to show up.    The time is now.    I want to help facilitate positive change in the dance community.   So I decided to show the F up!   And it ain’t easy right now.   I am sharing this, so you know it’s hard for me too. There is no right answer to what you should or should not be doing. It’s different for each of us and that is ok. That is enough…   With all of that said I want to invite you to our discussion Am I Doing Enough - How to use Your Voice in Your Dance Classroom or Studio to Create Racial Consciousness on Tuesday June 23rd at 4pm EST. This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for Tuesday June 16th, 2020. For the fourth day in a row, Texas reported a record number of hospitalizations for coronavirus, with 2,287. There are 91,727 confirmed cases in the state with 2,018 deaths. Texas has reported over 1,000 cases a day for the last 8 days. The highest was 2,500 on June 10th. The majority of cases are in and around Houston and Dallas. Houston officials have cautioned that if numbers continue to rise, the city may have to shutdown once again. On May 20th, The Washington Post ran an article noting that Dallas, Houston, Alabama and parts of Florida could see a second wave over the next month due to rapid reopening. The model cited was by PolicyLab at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Nearly one month later, Texas, Florida and Alabama have some of the steepest increases in the U.S. The FDA pulled its emergency authorization for Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19. A CDC report notes that COVID-19 patients with underlying health conditions like heart disease and diabetes were 12 times more likely to die due of the virus. US Airlines will strictly enforce wearing a mask on board. Those who refuse, could be banned. The US Open Tennis Tournament relayed they hope to stay on schedule opening August 31st in New York. There will be no spectators. The World Health Organization noted that there have been more than 100,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported each day for the last two weeks. When the pandemic began, it took nearly two months to reach the 100,000 mark. After 3 weeks with no new cases, New Zealand has reported 2. The cases were from two women who recently entered the country from the UK to visit a dying relative. Greece will reopen to international tourists on Monday. It’s challenging enough to rally public interest around making costly improvements to public transportation … let alone during a pandemic and in the middle of civil unrest. But the ‘Central Maryland Regional Transit Plan’ timeline marches on, with a deadline hovering in the fall. Holly Arnold, Deputy Administrator and Maryland Transit Administration’s Chief Planning, Programming and Engineering Officer, tells us what the plan entails. And transportation advocate Taffy Gwitira, vice chair of the public advisory committee of the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, talks about the equity of access to reliable transit that she feels is lacking in the plan. But she says one must play the long game when it comes to designing transportation around Baltimore. To live chat with Central Maryland Regional Transit Plan project designers on Tuesday June 16, from 4-6pm, and also to leave your comments on the plan, visit this link.
