Hosts: Adam Gardiner and Marty Carpenter  Waltz nominated to be UN ambassador, Rubio steps in as interim advisor  President Donald Trump's national security advisor Michael Waltz is expected to step down. This comes after growing frustrations with Waltz after he added a reporter to a Signal chat with top Trump officials that discussed a US military strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen. Trump had repeatedly defended both Waltz and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth following the Signal incidents. Marco Rubio will act as national security advisor and Waltz is now being nominated for United Nations Ambassador. Marty and Adam discuss how all this played out this morning and what’s next.    Is Donald Trump’s involvement in crypto ethical?  Donald Trump is hosting a special crypto related dinner on May 22. The event, which is black-tie optional and hosted at the president’s private club in the Washington area with a reception for the top 25 holders. A “VIP White House Tour” will take place the following day, the site says. The website also hosts an active leaderboard displaying the usernames of top buyers. Trump's involvement with crypto has drawn plenty of criticism due to his changing stance. It raises the question: should the president be involved in this? Adam and Marty break down how Trump became a player in in the crypto scene.    You need to be OK with having less  President Donald Trump addressed the first 100 days of his presidency yesterday as well as giving an update on the tariff situation with China. He said that factories are closing "all over China" because they are not doing business right now. And it seems like what the administration is saying, is that you need to be OK with less. The administration has continuously blamed previous administrations for the situation they're in right now. Marty and Adam talk about how they see this move by the Trump administration playing out.    The EPA has been busy  The focus for the first 100 days of President Trump's second administration has been on the economy and tariffs and leaked group chats about national security... but there are other things going on as well. Some of those things we aren't hearing as much about are coming from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In the background of everything that's going on, the EPA has been working to clean up the air, lowering energy costs for Americans, and making the US one of the AI capitals of the world. Adam and Marty look at look at what the EPA has been doing over the past few months.    How do federal decisions affect us in Utah?  When Congress makes sweeping decisions about spending, debt, or entitlements, those choices don’t just stay in Washington. They ripple across the country—and often land in very real, very local ways here in Utah. The Gardner Institute has released a new series of reports showing how deeply Utah is connected to the federal government—from Medicaid to public lands to defense, housing, and more. Natalie Gochnour, Director, Kem C. Gardener Policy Institute, joins Marty and Adam to discuss the impact these federal decisions are having right here in Utah.    How does government intervention affect Utah businesses?  Government intervention in business is always a sensitive subject. It’s hard to find the balancing point between what’s too much... and too little. Troy Keller, Office of Regulatory Relief, joins Adam and Marty to discuss what happens when the government intervenes too little... or too much. They talk about how government regulation is impacting Utah businesses.    Utah is becoming a “trend-setter” on a national scale  Florida is following Utah's lead by banning the addition of fluoride to public drinking water. Utah was the first state to ban fluoridation of public water during its 2025 legislative session. Is Utah becoming more relevant on the national political stage? Marty and Adam take a look at what Utah has done over the past few years to become a “trend-setter” nationally.    Politicians are getting more creative with their outreach  Senator Elissa Slotkin (Michigan) was invited to play Call of Duty Black Ops 6 with young constituents last week. Let's just say that it was a steep learning curve from Pac-Man. This isn't the first time we've seen unconventional methods to try and relate with younger voters. Adam and Marty discuss some of the things they’ve seen politicians doing to humanize themselves and be more relatable to voters.

Send us a textThis is a second part we added to our tribute to President Jimmy Carter that ran yesterday. The episode we put together to start with was already 1 hour and 47 minutes long after editing it down,  so we had to decide what to cut from the program. After making the edits we came to the conclusion that we had another episode that really needed to be shared. This is that episode and that material. We will begin with some extra things we found including a speech by President Carter introducing his Grandson at the college in Sumter County, Georgia when his grandson, Jason Carter, spoke to the graduates. It is in that speech you will see just how effective and inspiring a speaker the younger Carter actually is, as we had already learned watching the State Funeral last week. We include that eulogy in this episode as well. We will also let you hear from President Jimmy Carter as he delivers a eulogy for former President Gerald Ford. The two men had become very close friends and both agreed that they would deliver a eulogy for whichever one survived the other. Ford wrote his eulogy for Carter and had it filed away for the possibility that one day he would deliver it. His son, Steven Ford, did so last week, 18 years after President Ford had passed away. We thought you might find it interesting to hear President Carter deliver the eulogy that he gave at President Ford's funeral in Michigan on the heels of hearing President Ford's read so many years later. Finally, we end where the State Funeral ended, with the eulogy delivered by President Carter's great friend, the former Mayor of Atlanta, the Carter Administration's United Nations Ambassador, and great civil rights leader, Andrew Young, who is now 92 years old and who, in order to deliver his powerful remarks about President Carter, had to do so while sitting down. It was a moment that held everyone spellbound as the Ambassador talked about his nearly 7 decade friendship that would take both of them from the rural southwest Georgia backroads, to the White House and beyond. Former President Jimmy Carter was 100 years old.  Questions or comments at , Randalrgw1@aol.com , https://twitter.com/randal_wallace , and http://www.randalwallace.com/Please Leave us a review at wherever you get your podcastsThanks for listening!!

In our third episode of the Grand Strand Politics segment, we witness what we thought was going to be the first of many rallies in the Myrtle Beach area as we got closer to a barnburner of a fight in the South Carolina Presidential Preference Primary on the Republican side this year.  Instead, it appears the race was over within 48 hours of that rally. In this episode we shall see the power play that shutdown the primary election cycle turning it from a contested battle between four candidates, Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and Asa Hutchinson. To a two person race, in name only,  between Former President Donald Trump and former United Nations Ambassador and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.  In just one day, you see us go from a super charged Ron Desantis rally in Myrtle Beach, we covered for you live, to Senator Tim Scott's endorsement of Trump, and then a rally that very night  in New Hampshire that literally made you wonder if the entire State Leadership of South Carolina had come to New Hampshire and left South Carolina with only a lonely Maytag Repairman watching over the State. It was a who's who of South Carolina's political figures, Governor Henry McMaster, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, SC House Speaker Meryl Smith, Congressmen Joe Wilson and William Timmons,  State Attorney General Alan Wilson, State Treasurer Curtis Loftis,  and our state's newest and biggest political rockstar, Congressman Russell Fry, all on stage, to endorse and support, former President Donald Trump. What happened next, for all intents and purposes, ended the Republican Presidential Primary, with Governor Ron DeSantis dropping out and Asa Hutchinson being swamped on election night and only Nikki Haley refusing to leave the race. It appears to me the 2024 Presidential Primary on the Republican side is over before it ever really got started, though we may still see an attempt at a challenge from Nikki Haley who is currently a whopping 60 points down in her own home state. You can listen to it all unfold in this episode of Grand Strand Politics as we set the stage for the coming South Carolina Presidential Primary, that may, or may not, end up even contested in the end. In local news, WAMY's community action director has announced she will retire effective July 1, 2023. According to the Watauga Democrat, Melissa Soto worked as the community action director for 31 years. Established in 1964, WAMY was the first human-service non-profit to come to the High Country's four county area of Watauga, Avery, Mitchell and Yancey counties. WAMY's mission is to partner with families and communities to provide the disadvantaged the support they need to become self-sufficient. Soto began working with WAMY as a case manager in a job training program in 1992 before being named executive director of WAMY in 2012. In state news, law enforcement found two guns at schools in central North Carolina on Tuesday. According to WRAL, Wendell Middle School in Wendell and Fairview Elementary School in Rocky Mount both had incidents with students in possession of a gun. At Wendell Middle School, one student reported to a teacher that a fellow peer had possession of the gun before it was confiscated and local law enforcement was notified. At Fairview Elementary School, a six-year old was found with an unloaded 9 millimeter handgun in his backpack. Administrators called police, secured the backpack and removed the child from the classroom before law enforcement arrived. No students were harmed at either school. In national news, Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and United Nations Ambassador announced her candidacy for president Tuesday. According to the Associated Press, Haley is the first major challenger to former President Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican Nomination. In her tweeted announcement video, Haley cited the country's economic troubles and the need for “generational change.” Haley is 51 and if elected would be the first female president and the first U.S. president of Indian descent as the daughter of two Indian immigrants. Now to sports. App State basketball is playing their final two home games of the season this week. They will play Texas State this Thursday at 6:30, and they will play against Ole Dominion this Saturday at 4. They are looking to recover from a rough stretch where they lost three of their last four games, and even though a first round bye seems unlikely with only four games left, they will still try to earn a better seed in the conference tournament. The NBA All Star Break is approaching, which means All Star Saturday is coming back. Watch players like Damian Lillard compete in the three point contest and players like Trey Murphy compete in the dunk contest this Saturday. In NFL news, the Arizona Cardinals have found their new head coach. Former Eagles offensive coordinator Johnathan Gannon was hired to be the Cardinals head coach. He signed a five year contract to replace Kliff Kingsbury, who was fired in January after going four years without winning a playoff game. And now for a special weather report powered by Booneweather.com. Today is going to be a very warm one with a high of 62 and a low of 47 with lots of cloudiness.

They Believed: Cesar Chavez on working conditions of farm laborers

When Shirley Temple Black — child actress, United Nations Ambassador and Nixon Republican — invited labor activist Cesar Chavez to speak to the Commonwealth Club about his work, he was wary of the request. As a result, he had his confidante and speechwriter, Marc Grossman, follow-up.Here’s what he learned: Temple Black had been a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild and kept up her membership after she left the profession to support other actors. When she needed financial support for health challenges later in life, the guild paid as part of that membership.“It turned out she was a pretty good trade unionist,” Grossman said. “She very much was a big fan of Cesar’s.” Chavez accepted that invite and spoke to the Commonwealth Club in 1984, with a focus on the deplorable conditions farm laborers faced. While he wasn’t considered an impressive orator, according to Grossman, he was a powerful storyteller and that characteristic makes up most of his public work. Grossman reminisced about this speech and the state of unions in the United States at that time in conversation with Kerri Miller for this installment of our occasional series, “They Believed.” At this pivotal moment in U.S. history, we want to look back at the words of America’s firebrands, visionaries and truth-tellers. What do they reveal about who we were then – and who we are now? Guest: Marc Grossman is a spokesman for the labor union, United Farm Workers and a longtime speechwriter for the union’s founder, Cesar Chavez.

In this groundbreaking episode, you’ll hear a side of Ambassador Susan Rice that you’ve likely never heard before. This is Rice uncensored, frank and with the gloves completely off. She candidly shares her thoughts on the recent attacks on US troops in Iraq and the Trump impeachment, but also on the Grammy Awards, the death of Kobe Bryant, her first car, her favorite drink and what music makes her dance.  Rice lays out the single greatest threat facing America and shares what it was like to grow up as the daughter of an Army Air Force Officer who served with the legendary Tuskegee Airmen in a segregated military with restaurants that served German prisoners of war but not black soldiers like him. She opens up about what it taught her about leadership, about tenacity and about race in America. She also talks about if she’ll run for the US Senate in Maine and whether she’ll endorse a candidate in the Democratic primary.  Recorded before a live audience in New York with independence, experience and wit, host Paul Rieckhoff leads a fascinating and unique conversation with the former United Nations Ambassador, National Security Advisor and bestselling author of Tough Love. Rieckhoff also breaks down the politics of the Grammy Awards and the Super Bowl, the latest evolution of the scandal around Traumatic Brain Injuries in Iraq, and why Joe Rogan’s praise for Bernie Sanders has liberals going nuts.  And in the wake of the Kobe and Gianna Bryant tragedy, we focus on the inspiring work of After School All-Stars. Check them out and be a helper in whatever way you can.  This episode Angry Americans takes you behind the highest stakes of foreign policy, politics and global military conflict. Download the podcast that has been featured by Variety, CNN, The New York Times, Vice and has recently topped the News and Politics podcast charts in America.  Join the Angry Americans community for upcoming event tickets and free behind-the-scenes video with guests like Susan Rice, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Bradley Whitford, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tulsi Gabbard, Rachel Maddow, Samantha Bee and more. He was an exchange student here in Oklahoma, and in this episode, we explored what growing up in Peru was like, his triumphs and regrets as an exchange student in the US, and his future ambitions.According to Alex:I come from a multicultural family; being Latin, Hispanic, and Peruvian is such a blessing to me. Peru is such a multicultural place; we got so many influences around the world. We pretty much are still in the shadow of the Inca Empire. We were a Spanish colony for so long. If you wanna eat, visit Peru; if you wanna experience culture, visit Peru. In addition to visiting Machu Picchu, there are many other beautiful places to visit. Peruvians are warm and friendly, and the country is also very inviting. If I could choose one thing I love about Peru, it would have to be the food.On why he is interested in international affairs and diplomacy, Alex had this to say:“I do believe that together, we can achieve a lot. Sometimes, when we do not get involved with other people (from other countries), we see more differences than similarities. We are in an era of globalization, every culture must contribute something.PS: In this episode, I throw out a theory of how I think Nigerians cannot call dibs on being the custodians of plantains. There are some African influences in Peru, and we explored the food and music angles.Fun facts about Alex:- He is super worldly and knows a lot about several countries and their cultures.- I think he is going to be a UN Ambassador someday; say you heard it first on this show.- Like me, he loves plantains, FRIENDS (the series), and Bossa nova (Brazilian music genre)Takeaway Points:- Quinoa is an ancient food that ofriginated with the Incas in the mountains of Peru and Bolivia. It was a food highly revered by the Incas- We can connect with so many people from different cultures on so many levels via food, music, etc.- Visit Peru and explore its cultural abundance.
