Sermon from August 24, 2025 by Rev. Dr. Lillian Daniel.
1 Corinthians 6:1-11
In this powerful "Shiggaion" of David, the psalmist pours out his heart to God, seeking refuge and justice from his persecutors. Psalm 7 is a passionate prayer of a man falsely accused, who appeals to God's righteousness and integrity. David declares his innocence, even daring to ask God to let his enemies triumph if he has been guilty of wrongdoing. He calls upon the Lord to "arise in anger" and judge the nations, expressing a deep and unwavering trust that God will ultimately defend the just and punish the wicked. The psalm concludes with a triumphant declaration of praise, confident that God's justice will prevail and that the schemes of the wicked will ultimately backfire upon themselves.#Psalm7, #PrayerForJustice, #Shiggaion, #David, #TrustInGodWhen you've been wronged, finding justice in faith, a prayer for vindication, trusting in God's righteousness, the power of prayer

Send us a textEpisode SummaryPsalm 7 is a powerful guide for those who have been slandered, falsely accused, or deeply wounded by injustice. In this episode of Counseling Through the Psalms, James Long, Jr. helps us explore how David moves from protest to praise—not by denying the pain of injustice, but by entrusting it to God's perfect justice. When your name is attacked or your heart is weary, this psalm shows you how to search your conscience, cry out for truth, and rest in the righteousness of God. It is a psalm for those who need both refuge and reassurance in a world where justice often feels delayed or denied.Key TakeawaysGod is both the righteous judge and a personal refuge for the wounded.Prayer can be a protest—not against God, but to Him.True vindication starts with humility, not self-defense.God's patience toward evildoers does not equal indifference. We can move from protest to praise when we trust God's justice more than our own vindication.Scripture FocusPsalm 7:1–17Deuteronomy 32:4Psalm 18:2Romans 2:4–6Proverbs 10:9Reflect and RespondHave you ever been falsely accused or misrepresented? How did you respond? What would it look like to entrust your situation to God as your righteous judge? Are you trying to fight for justice in your own strength, or are you taking refuge in the Lord? What area of your life needs honest examination like David models in verses 3–5?What does it mean to you that God is your shield, even when others don't defend you?How can you begin to move from protest to praise before your situation is resolved?Resources and LinksJoin the Community: https://jameslongjr.org/signupnowFree Navigator Level: https://community.jameslongjr.orgSubscribe and FollowListen to Lessons for Life with James Long, Jr. on your favorite podcast platform:Apple Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/applepodcastSpotify: https://jameslongjr.org/spotifyAmazon Music: https://jameslongjr.org/amazonmusicGoogle Podcasts: https://jameslongjr.org/googlepodcastYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeConnect and ShareInstagram: @drjameslongjr – https://jameslongjr.org/instagramFacebook: https://jameslongjr.org/facebookYouTube: https://jameslongjr.org/youtubeHashtag: #LessonsForLifePodcast ABOUT JAMES AND LESSONS FOR LIFEAre you longing to find answers to the deeper issues of life? This week we traverse a changed forest that should be home to one of the world's largest woodpeckers, the ivory-billed woodpecker, but only the echoes of its song and tapping remain. In the news, we celebrate the life of another recently passed bird, the UK's oldest wild white-tailed eagle, who produced a record number of chicks. All this and more. On the show today, the Logies 2025 date has been confirmed, and while we prepare for Australian TV’s ‘night of nights’, some very well-known Australian TV stars have complained that they’ve been uninvited. Allow us to explain exactly what has happened. And in a clever business move, actress and producer Sydney Sweeney is selling her literal bathwater, and we have a very pressing question about the rule she’s set for who is allowed to buy it.Plus, in a huge week for Sydney Sweeney, she has also given a tell-all interview about ending her engagement and the career roadblocks she is facing, an interview in which she utters the one sentence we thought was forbidden in Hollywood. James provides practical guidance for handling mistreatment with grace and patience. The key is maintaining a long fuse - having the power to retaliate but choosing not to. This patience should extend until Christ's return, focusing on controlling our responses while leaving justice to God. The prophets serve as examples of enduring persecution while maintaining faithfulness, demonstrating that those who remain patient through trials will receive heavenly rewards. The challenge is to maintain integrity and guard against internal resentment, even when facing injustice.
