It is the first series developed specifically for that service, and the first Star Trek series since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded in 2005. Set roughly a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series and separate from the timeline of the concurrent feature films, Discovery explores the Federation–Klingon cold war while following the crew of the USS Discovery. Gretchen J. The new series was announced in November 2015, and Fuller joined as showrunner the next February. In addition to Fuller and Kurtzman, who wrote for previous Star Trek series and films, respectively, the crew includes several other previous Star Trek creatives. Fuller wanted to make an anthology series, beginning with a prequel season to the original series, but CBS asked that he make a single serialized show first. In October 2016, after further disagreements with CBS and struggles with other commitments, Fuller left the series. Berg and Harberts took over day-to-day production using a mythology and broad story arc established by Fuller, while Goldsman joined then as support. The production put emphasis on carrying on the legacy of the previous series, including making efforts to feature a diverse cast. Set roughly a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series and separate from the timeline of the concurrent feature films, Discovery explores the Federation–Klingon cold war while following the crew of the USS Discovery. Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts serve as showrunners on the series, with producing support from Akiva Goldsman. Sonequa Martin-Green stars as Michael Burnham, the first officer of the USS Shenzhou and later the USS Discovery. The values and designs of the Federation were updated for the series, but were expected to evolve towards those of the original series throughout Discovery's run. The show also heavily features the Klingon species, with the intent of exploring the central conflict from both perspectives. The Klingons were redesigned for the series, with influence from their previous appearances, the original inspirations for the species, and the novel The Final Reflection, as well as research on biology and evolution. The Klingon language is also extensively used. Discovery is filming in Toronto, and has filmed on location in Jordan. Burnham. Caught between two worlds—one of nature and one of nurture—Michael Burnham is an orphaned human who was raised on Vulcan after being adopted by Spock's parents Sarek and Amanda. When she chooses to join Starfleet, she finds that, despite being human, her Vulcan upbringing has made connecting with those of her own species difficult. As she moves up through the ranks, she must allow herself to love and be loved by her new family aboard the USS Shenzhou and later the USS Discovery. In this episode of The Edge, hosts Amy Nelson and Patrick Devlin are joined by Bill Smith of Trek Geeks to explore the character of Michael Burnham. We discuss her reasons for disobeying Captain Georgiou and question if it was mutiny or treason. We also explore how being raised Vulcan changed her life and debated whether there truly are second chances. Georgiou. One of the first moments of Star Trek: Discovery is the introduction of Captain Philippa Georgiou. We meet her during an away mission with Michael Burnham, and her wisdom is quickly evident. She asks Burnham to trust her as they seemingly meander through the desert. We soon discover that the route was not random; rather it created a landmark with which the Shenzhouto could locate them. Georgiou leaves us early, killed while attempting to capture the Klingon T'Kuvma, but this won't be the last we see of her. She turns up again in the Mirror Universe as Emperor Georgiou. Though ruthless and uncaring, the Emperor—like her Prime Universe counterpart—has a soft spot for Burnham. In this episode of The Edge, hosts Amy Nelson and Patrick Devlin are joined by Clara Cook of Primitive Cultureto discuss Philippa Georgiou. We discuss her command style in both the Prime and Mirror Universes, similarities in character, what role Mirror Georgiou may play in the Prime Universe … and what Section 31 may have to do with it. Saru. The first Kelpien in Starfleet, Saru served admirably aboard the USS Shenzhou and the USS Discovery, ultimately earning the Starfleet Medal of Honor. Although his rank was lieutenant when we first saw him in “The Vulcan Hello,” he was promoted to commander and first officer by the time of “Context Is for Kings.” He also served as acting captain multiple times when Captain Gabriel Lorca was away. In this episode of The Edge, hosts Patrick Devlin and Amy Nelson are joined by John Krikorian of Trek Profiles on The Tricorder Transmissions Network to discuss this new Star Trek species. Kelpiens are known to sense the coming of death through their threat ganglia, but what else do we learn about Saru's species? We deep-dive into his relationship with Michael Burnham, how he lives in continual fear, and his competency to be captain. Star Trek: Discovery Annual 2018. For almost forty years, the adventures of the characters we love to watch have been continued in novels that tell new adventures and expand upon onscreen events. But these have generally been accepted as having no impact on TV episodes or movies. Star Trek: Discovery is a bit different. Fan-favorite novelist Kirsten Beyer was hired not only to write for the show but to maintain continuity wherever possible between the Discovery and tie-in fiction. With this in mind, what can we learn about the crews of the USS Discovery and USS Shenzhou from the novels and comics? In this episode of The Edge, host Brandon-Shea Mutala is joined by Dan Gunther and Bruce Gibson of Literary Treks and Patrick Devlin of Warp Five to talk about the new Star Trek: Discovery Annual 2018 comic. Jack's Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast
Jack’s Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast is BACK! Remember Star Trek: Discovery? It’s back. In book form. Jack roped old friend and most frequent guest Barm into reading the first Discovery novel, David Mack’s Desperate Hours, and they’re here to report to all you Discoverinos with their findings. Despite the title, Discovery is nowhere to be found here, as David Mack brings us to a point a year before the show where the USS Shenzhou finds itself assigned to a joint mission with none other than the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain Pike and crew. In the midst of our lively discussion about the many merits and several flaws of this entertaining read, we’ll touch upon Barm’s history with the 2001 “franchise”, David Mack’s valiant yet silly efforts to make Discovery fit better into Star Trek continuity (which Carlos has thoughts on), how the book has made us reevaluate our feelings on how season one played out, and our history with Star Trek books in general! We’re back, and now so is your will to live!

Star Trek Discovery – Season 1A Roundtable Star Trek Discovery returns on January 7th, but we return a bit early for a Season 1a roundtable, discussing the first nine episodes of Season 1. Joining Adam and Brian are Mark Des Cotes of Solo Talk Media and my former co-host of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Ruthie Rink! Bittersweet Announcement We begin the episode with an important announcement about this podcast. Unfortunately, Adam has decided to step down as co-host of the podcast. This is his last episode for the immediate future, due to other commitments that make it difficult to do this podcast. It’s sad to see Adam go. He’s been a big reason for the podcast’s success, and this podcast wouldn’t be where it is without him. However, I am pleased to announce that the new co-host is Ruthie!!! Ruthie and I have been podcasting together for over three years. She’s as big of a Star Trek fanatic as Adam and I are, and she loves this show. I think you will find that the quality of this show will not skip a beat, and since this podcast’s format is based upon the format of The Walking Dead Talk Through, we probably won’t be changing things much. You can still listen to Adam on The Nerfherder Council podcast. Submit Your Feedback for S1E10 Despite Yourself! In mission 12 the GRYS are reviewing the pilot episode of CBS All Access's flagship series "Star Trek Discovery." The GRYS share their opinion on the newest chapter to the Star Trek universe as they board the USS Shenzhou and meet the crew of Star Trek Discovery.
S01E01 The Vulcan Hello - S01E02 The Battle of the Binary Stars Nos adentramos en el nuevo mundo Star Trek. Versión 2017, tienen un gran reto. ¿Será que logran seguir con el legado impecablemente? ¿Necesitamos un cambio?
The Starfleet cruiser USS Shenzhou encounters a seemingly dormant Klingon ship, and one simple act opens the door for a potential interstellar war. For the first time since 2005, the Star Trek universe returns to the small screen as CBS hopes the iconic show will take its streaming service to the next level. Will Burnham's mutinous act come back to haunt her? Episode Grade: Dave B Wayne A-
Talking Through Battle at the Binary Stars On Sunday, September 24th, CBS All Access made available S1E2 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled Battle at the Binary Stars, immediately following the airing of S1E1, The Vulcan Hello, on CBS. Since many people in the U.S. didn’t have CBS All Access and still don’t, they want to know: Should they watch this show? Should they pay for CBS All Access? Should they wait, and binge it, or buy it now and watch week to week? We answer those questions, at least most of them, in this week’s episode. In this episode of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, we analyze Season 1 Episode 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, titled “Battle at the Binary Stars”. We also discuss, after the first two episodes, our experiences so far with CBS All Access, and give our advice about watching each week, waiting and binging or not watching at all. Read More… Is Star Trek: Discovery Star Trek? Star Trek: Discovery is not your father’s Star Trek. You know the uniforms and the Klingons look different, but it goes beyond that. The producers have changed a lot more, added a few new wrinkles to some things, and created new things within the universe. But, is it still Star Trek? I believe the answer is yes. If you can accept some changes to what you’re used to, then this Star Trek is for you. If you can’t accept that their uniforms are anything except what you see in “The Cage”, and that the bridge doesn’t look like a classic bridge a la NCC-1701, then move on. Stick to Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. At least they still act like Klingons! Though the producers have been coy about it, I believe that Star Trek: Discovery is a partial re-imagining of the franchise. They’ve kept story canon, for the most part, but they have changed the look and much of the technology. They could have saved themselves a lot of grief by announcing this as a re-imagining of the franchise, or by not changing as much as they did. I’m still scratching my head as to why they felt it necessary to change the look of the Klingons so much, but it is what it is. I hope it may be explained, but the most important part is that they still act like Klingons, and if they had changed their behavior, I would be objecting a lot more than I am now. So, should you watch Star Trek: Discovery? We believe the answer is yes. We think it will be a great season, and great TV, but different than the Trek we grew up with. Should you get CBS All Access? We think so… but whether you wait and binge, or watch weekly, that’s up to you; whether you don’t want to be spoiled online because you haven’t seen it, want to share with the online community as it airs, or you’re more than comfortable binging it and watching later is a major determining factor. However, if you’re waiting for it to come onto another streaming provider in the US, like Netflix, think again. CBS is building their whole streaming service around the Star Trek franchise. This is going to become more commonplace, not less, with other content providers. It’s unlikely, though not impossible, that Discovery will be available on Netflix in the future. If that happens, it won’t be soon. What about the episode itself? SPOILER ALERT! This episode ends with a few major twists. Captain Phillipa Georgiou and T’Kuvma are dead, the Shenzhou has been destroyed, the Federation and the Klingon Empire are at war, and Burnham has been court-martialed and received a life sentence. We’ve not even seen the USS Discovery yet! “The Vulcan Hello” and “Battle at the Binary Stars” play together like a 2-hour TV movie prequel. It’s like the rest of the season will

Talking Through The Vulcan Hello It’s been a long wait, but Star Trek: Discovery is finally here!!! For this episode of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Adam and I cover the pilot, Season 1 Episode 1, titled The Vulcan Hello. Overall, we’re cautiously optimistic, with some enthusiasm on some things and nagging issues on others. We’ll cover Season 1 Episode 2, titled Battle at the Binary Stars, later this week. The verdict’s still out for some We know some of you, especially in the U.S., are undecided as to whether or not you will watch the show. Perhaps you will wait until you can binge-watch it before you pay the monthly fee, or maybe you want to wait and see what people think of it before committing to yet another bill. If you are in Canada, have the show available on Netflix or have decided to pay for access in the U.S. now, perhaps you are going to watch it weekly like we are. I’m not going to write this post to try to get you to sign up, but if and when you do, we’ll be here for you! What’s MY verdict? Overall, we’re cautiously optimistic, with some enthusiasm on some things and nagging issues on others. When we recorded Monday night, I had not yet seen episode two, but I have now. Some of my opinions changed after that episode. Some changed for the positive, and a few for the negative. On the whole, I am pleased and can’t wait for next week’s episode! However, I’m still asking why they made the changes they did. I’ve decided to just accept them and watch the show based on its own merit. We’ll be back in a few days! We will be recording again Thursday night, covering Season 1 Episode 2, “Battle at the Binary Stars“. If you want to get in feedback, one of the best ways to do that is via our Facebook group.

Gary and Addell review the two-part premiere, "The Vulcan Hello" and "Battle at the Binary Stars." Investigating a damaged satellite near a binary star system on the edge of Federation space, the crew members of the USS Shenzhou discover an object obscured from their sensors. After First Officer Michael Burnham volunteers to investigate the object, she finds an ancient, carved vessel. She is attacked by a Klingon, and when trying to escape, she accidentally kills him. A group of Klingons mourn the death of their soldier, dubbed the "Torchbearer", before the outcast Voq volunteers to take his place. The Klingons, led by T'Kuvma, reveal themselves in a cloaked ship. T'Kuvma preaches to his followers of the Federation's attempts to usurp the individuality of the Klingons and their culture and plans to fulfill an ancient prophecy by uniting the 24 great Klingon houses as was once done by Kahless. Voq activates a beacon that summons the Klingon leaders. Burnham, desperate to prevent a war, attempts to fire on the Klingons first, against the wishes of Captain Philippa Georgiou. Burnham is arrested for mutiny. T'Kuvma convinces the majority of the Klingon leaders that he can lead them to victory over the Federation, as reinforcements for the Shenzhou arrive. Georgiou offers to resolve the situation peacefully, but the Klingons immediately open fire. Starfleet Admiral Anderson arrives and again offers peace to the Klingons, but his ship is rammed by another cloaked Klingon vessel. Anderson has his ship self-destruct, destroying the Klingon ship as well. Starfleet retreats, leaving the Klingons to collect their dead. In the remains of the Shenzhou, Burnham escapes her cell after encouragement from her guardian Sarek via a telepathic connection. She convinces Georgiou to try to take T'Kuvma prisoner, and they create a distraction by sending an explosive into his ship with a Klingon corpse. Boarding the vessel, Burnham overpowers Voq. Georgiou attempts to capture T'Kuvma but is killed. T'Kuvma is fatally shot by Burnham, who is transported to safety. Voq promises that T'Kuvma's legacy will live on. Burnham is later sentenced to life in prison for her mutiny. Star Trek: Age of Discovery is a fan podcast for the CBS All-Access show STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. Email the show at startrekaod@gmail.com.
