At ThreatLocker Zero Trust World 2025 in Orlando, Art Ocain, VP of Cybersecurity & Incident Response at Airiam, shared valuable insights into applying zero trust principles to incident response. The conversation, hosted by Marco Ciappelli and Sean Martin, highlighted the critical role of zero trust in preparing for and managing security incidents. The Zero Trust Mindset in Incident Response Ocain discussed how zero trust methodology—embracing the principles of "assume breach" and "always verify, never trust"—can significantly enhance incident response strategies. Instead of merely securing the perimeter or endpoints, his approach involves identifying and protecting core systems through micro-segmentation and robust identity management. By securing each component individually, organizations can minimize the impact of potential breaches. For example, Ocain described a scenario where segmenting a SQL server from an application server could prevent data loss during an attack. Even if an application server is compromised, critical data remains secure, allowing quicker recovery and continuity of operations.Dynamic Containment Strategies Ocain emphasized the importance of dynamic containment when responding to incidents. Traditional methods, such as using Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) tools, are effective for forensic analysis but may not stop active threats quickly. Instead, he advocated for an "allow list only" approach that restricts access to systems and data, effectively containing threats while maintaining critical business functions. In practice, when Ocain is called into a crisis, he often implements a deny-by-default solution to isolate compromised systems. This strategy allows him to perform forensics and bring systems back online selectively, ensuring threat actors cannot access recovered systems.Balancing Security with Business Needs A significant challenge in adopting zero trust is gaining executive buy-in. Ocain noted that executive teams often push back against zero trust measures, either out of a desire for convenience or because of misconceptions about its impact on business culture. His approach involves demonstrating real-world scenarios where zero trust could mitigate damage during breaches. By focusing on critical systems and showing the potential consequences of compromised identities or systems, Ocain effectively bridges the gap between security and business priorities.A Cultural Shift Toward Security The discussion also touched on the cultural shift required to fully integrate zero trust into an organization. Zero trust is not just a technological framework but a mindset that influences how every employee views access and security. Through scenario-driven exercises and engaging executive teams early in the process, Ocain helps organizations transition from a "department of no" mentality to a collaborative, security-first culture.Listen to the full episode to explore more strategies on implementing zero trust in incident response and how to align security initiatives with business goals.Guest: Art Ocain, VP of Cybersecurity & Incident Response at Airiam | On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/artocain/Hosts:Sean Martin, Co-Founder at ITSPmagazine [@ITSPmagazine] and Host of Redefining CyberSecurity Podcast [@RedefiningCyber] | On ITSPmagazine: https://www.itspmagazine.com/sean-martinMarco Ciappelli, Co-Founder at ITSPmagazine [@ITSPmagazine] and Host of Redefining Society Podcast & Audio Signals Podcast | On ITSPmagazine: https://www.itspmagazine.com/itspmagazine-podcast-radio-hosts/marco-ciappelli____________________________This Episode's SponsorsThreatLocker: https://itspm.ag/threatlocker-r974____________________________ResourcesLearn more and catch more stories from ZTW 2025 coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/zero-trust-world-2025-cybersecurity-and-zero-trust-event-coverage-orlando-floridaRegister for Zero Trust World 2025: https://itspm.ag/threat5mu1____________________________Catch all of our event coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/technology-and-cybersecurity-conference-coverageTo see and hear more Redefining CyberSecurity content on ITSPmagazine, visit: https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-cybersecurity-podcastTo see and hear more Redefining Society stories on ITSPmagazine, visit:https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-society-podcastWant to tell your Brand Story Briefing as part of our event coverage? For the first time in more than 200 episodes of podcasting, I could not rate this episode!!! It was SO out of left field for me. I did not expect them to go to the Mirror Universe, though, in retrospect, I should have. Opinions were many and spirited for this episode. After re-watching it more than once (I only got to watch it once this week prior to recording), I can tell you that I appreciated the episode a LOT more after the shock of it wore off, but you’ll hear me talk about that a lot this week. All in all, I knew it was (mostly) a great episode this week, but I had so many questions about it, I had to defer my rating. Ruthie also had a lot of questions, but she gave it a rating. Going to the Mirror Universe now seems like it’s a natural thing to do, given Georgiou’s condition, but we questioned its place in the season, and it taking away from the main plot. In episodes 9 and 10 of Season two, there is a traitor onboard — and everyone thinks it’s Ash! But there is really no time to hunt that down. The DISCO is on the run, and so is Admiral Cornwell (because Section 31 has stopped responding to her hails, what the what?!) Spock has arrived and he has an axe to grind with his adopted sister, Michael. There’s a minefield (both emotional and literal) to navigate. and the traitor? it’s Airiam — but she tells Michael to find “Project Daedalus” before she gets ejected out of the airlock! WHAT IS PROJECT DAEDALUS? (spoiler: we’ll tell you!)
This week: Red eyes are evil, brother and sister combos are dangerous to 3D chess, can Saturday morning cartoons make your Dot a baby's daddy? How did airlocks get to suck so fast? Unanswered Threads. When a television show creates large, elaborate storylines that are weaved throughout a season, some of the smaller plot points that were developed may never get finalized. What on Kaminar is happening now with the Kelpiens and Ba’ul? The logic extremists came and went pretty quickly, and what’s going to happen with L’Rell’s chancellorship? In this episode of The Edge, hosts Liam Smart, Brandi Jackola, and Nick Collinson discuss some unanswered questions and speculate on the logic extremists, briefly discuss the lost potential of Airiam, and explore what’s happening on Qo’noS and Kaminar now that the USS Discovery has left the 23rd century. This week Spock and Michael have some sibling discussions, Discovery deals with a mine field, and Airiam gets taken over by "Control".
A ’Project Daedalus’ című Discovery epizódról beszélgetünk. - Ira Steven Behr Deep Space Nine dokumentumfilmje forgalmazóra talált: a HD jeleneteket tartalmazó produkciót a nagyvásznon is bemutatják. - A különleges vulkáni: miért lett Spock a Vörös Angyal kiszemeltje? Hogyan számolt le a mesterséges intelligencia a szekciót irányító admirálisokkal? - A gépek öntudatra ébredése: a mesterséges intelligenciák fejlődésénél az emberi tényező kiiktatása mindig szükségszerű? - Bujkálás és zendülés a jó célért: Cornwell admirális végre a jó oldalhoz csatlakozik? Miért maradt távol Pike a klingon háborútól?
A Discovery és Leland kapitány legénysége egyesített erővel tesznek kísérletet a Vörös Angyal elfogására, akinek a személyazonosságát Tilly és Dr. Culber teljes bizonyossággal tudni véli. A terv kidolgozása közben újabb sokkoló igazság derül ki Burnham szüleiről, akinek a jövő megóvása érdekében hatalmas áldozatot kell vállalnia. Heti elemzésünk tárgya a 'The Red Angel' című epizód. Rövid hírszekció: - A második évad végén Pike küldetése lezárul a Discovery csapatával, a kapitány az első tisztjével együtt az Enterprise fedélzetén veszi majd fel a szolgálatot valószínűleg Spock is velük tart. - William Shatner március 22-én 88 éves lett. Vajon hogyan térhetne vissza a képernyőkre az egykori Kirk kapitány? Hogyan magyarázható a sorozatok közötti különbség a szervezet ábrázolásmódját illetően?

The Red Angel. Following the death of a Commander Airiam, the crew of the USS Discovery is left searching for answers. But the reveal of the Red Angel's identity—and Section 31's role in the mystery—only raises more questions. Meanwhile, two characters who have suffered a loss—Michael Burnham and Hugh Culber—begin to realize that they must move forward. In this episode of The Edge, host Patrick Devlin is joined by Hayley Stoddart of Standard Orbit to discuss “The Red Angel” and the ramifications of the story's many character moments. We also discuss the funeral for Commander Airiam, the crew's reaction to her death, and how artificial intelligence can evolve in unexpected ways. Without news to cover this week, we jump right into our new segment, random Memory Alpha article before diving into the main topic this week, a discussion of Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Episode 10 “The Red Angel”! There’s spoilers abound in this week’s episode, so make sure you are caught up on Discovery before...
Hosts Cam Smith and Tyler Orton strap themselves into chairs in order to have a close encounter with the much-hyped Red Angel! They also express awe over Airiam's funeral, debate Ash Tyler's status on the show and strive to determine what the heck is going on with Leland. Right-click to download! Read more »
Before finally learning the identity of the Red Angel, we have some difficult scenes to get through. Burnham’s decision reminds Ken of his own life-and-death ordeal, and the temporal mechanics give both of us a headache. On the bright side, Airiam’s funeral gives us hope that Doug Jones’ singing will be on the Discovery Season …
The greatest mystery of season two is finally resolved as we learn whose face hides under that Red Angel mask. We have mixed reactions to this revelation. Michael Burnham repairs relationships with the men in her life, but the unexpected return of a woman into her life is really messing with her head. One woman that doesn't seem like she's going to return to Burnham's life? Airiam cuz they just dumped her out into space. Leland needs an eye exam.

On this episode of the Star Trek: Discovery after show, Flobo returns! Christian and Frank celebrate his return by talking with him about the Red Angel’s reveal, did Spock get his idea for his memorial service in “Wrath of Khan” from Airiam’s in this episode and have Michael and Spock made up? All that and more, join us! ABOUT STAR TREK WEEKLY: Star Trek Weekly, is a weekly podcast for fans of Star Trek. Hsoted by Kari Lane, Frank Moran, and Christian Bladt, the team will be breaking down each episode of Star Trek Discovery during the seasons, and in the off time covering classic episodes and topics related to the Star Trek Universe year round! ABOUT STAR TREK DISCOVERY: Star Trek: Discovery is an American television series created for CBS All Access by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman. It is the first series developed specifically for that service, and the first Star Trek series since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded in 2005. Set roughly a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series and separate from the timeline of the concurrent feature films, Discovery explores the Federation–Klingon cold war while following the crew of the USS Discovery. Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts serve as showrunners on the series, with producing support from Akiva Goldsman. Sonequa Martin-Green stars as Michael Burnham, the first officer of the USS Shenzhou and later the USS Discovery. The new series was announced in November 2015, and Fuller joined as showrunner the next February. In addition to Fuller and Kurtzman, who wrote for previous Star Trek series and films, respectively, the crew includes several other previous Star Trek creatives. Fuller wanted to make an anthology series, beginning with a prequel season to the original series, but CBS asked that he make a single serialized show first. In October 2016, after further disagreements with CBS and struggles with other commitments, Fuller left the series. Berg and Harberts took over day-to-day production using a mythology and broad story arc established by Fuller, while Goldsman joined then as support. The production put emphasis on carrying on the legacy of the previous series, including making efforts to feature a diverse cast. The values and designs of the Federation were updated for the series, but were expected to evolve towards those of the original series throughout Discovery's run. The show also heavily features the Klingon species, with the intent of exploring the central conflict from both perspectives. The Klingons were redesigned for the series, with influence from their previous appearances, the original inspirations for the species, and the novel The Final Reflection, as well as research on biology and evolution. The Klingon language is also extensively used. Discovery is filming in Toronto, and has filmed on location in Jordan. Star Trek: Discovery – Season 2, Episode 9: Project Daedalus For a supersized episode 34 of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Ruthie and I discuss Season 2 Episode 9 of Star Trek: Discovery, which is titled, Project Daedalus. This episode was written by the newly announced co-showrunner of Season 3, Michelle Paradise, who is currently a co-executive producer on the show, and it was directed by Jonathan Frakes, who you should all know played Commander William T. Riker on TNG and the movies that followed, and has been a longtime director of Trek, including Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection. This is his third time directing Discovery. Discussion on Project Daedalus begins at 13:00… We begin the podcast with feedback from the previous episode. We get into this episode at 13 minutes exactly. Fred’s Pics! We have been blessed yet again with pics chosen by Fred from The Netherlands, including the cover image. We are going to do something different this week, and feature JUST the pictures this week. We’ll go back to a more traditional blog post next week. Before you look at the Project Daedalus pics… We did a flip of last week’s ratings. Ruthie gave this one a 10, whereas I gave it a 9. Without details, I will just say that the episode reminded me a lot of what happened to T-Dog from The Walking Dead. Airiam was a character we finally got to know and then she’s gone. We’ll be back in (hopefully less than) a week with our next episode. Get in your feedback As always, your feedback is essential to this podcast! We’ll be having a short feedback deadline most weeks this season, due to scheduling issues. We’ll cover more feedback from S2E9 Project Daedalus, so do not hesitate to send in your feedback if you miss the deadline. For Star Trek: Discovery S2E10, which is titled The Red Angel, the deadline to get in your feedback is Friday, March 22, 2019, at 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central or 11 PM UTC. You can submit feedback via the GSM Feedback page, Facebook Group, Twitter, you can email startrekgsm at gmail dot com, or call the voicemail at (216) 236-5449 and leave us a message there. Make sure to mention you’re calling The Star Trek Discovery Podcast when you call. I’m also podcasting on The Walking Dead. Because of this schedule, we are trying to get our episodes down to a more reasonable podcast length. To help with this, we’d like you to focus on a few key points from the episode, rather than discussing everything about the episode. If submitting a voicemail, please try to keep your calls to 4 minutes or less, with an absolute maximum of 5 minutes. We would like to keep our episodes under 2 hours! Please help with that! We discuss how Airiam was misused in this episode as a one-off character, from her backstory through her apparent demise. Zach points out how this episode raises good questions about simulation and realistic fakes, and the challenges to understanding what is true in the world. David salutes Nhan, the one character who seemed to be focused on her job for the entire episode. Finally, we speculate about where the story will go over the last four episodes of the season and wonder if it can be told without a time travel paradox.
We failed MISERABLY this week. Links to us… Want to participate? Join our Facebook group! And follow us on Twitter! And don’t forget to subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts! While you do

This week, Matt and returning guest host Laurie navigate through the minefield of “Project Daedalus.” There were lots of good character moments, and we loved finally learning about Airiam, but we weren’t so happy that this all just happened for the first time now. In a TV show that is supposed to be serialized, we’d have liked to have seen Airiam’s character growth sprinkled in all season long. Michael and Spock’s continued icy estranged sibling relationship was another highlight of the episode; Ethan Peck and Sonequa Martin-Green nailed it. There were also a few scenes that didn’t quite feel right, as if the script needed another pass or two to polish it up, but they were carried through by the consistently excellent performances of the cast.
"Project Daedalus" Let's talk Airiam. Everything Airiam. Did you like what they did this episode? Did they do enough to make you feel what you were supposed to feel? The Dads tend to cry at most things, so there may have been tears but we are not a good gauge. Join us as we discuss Airiam and what that all means. Spock and Burnham and his "Come to Jesus" argument with her. Not to mention the relationship advice that Spock is handing out. As always, thank you for the listen. Please share with your friends and subscribe so you catch all our new episodes.
"Project Daedalus" AnalysisThe trio is joined by Robyn from "Black Girls Create" to look at the rise and fall of Lt. Cmdr. Airiam. What questions does this episode raise about our favorite augmented human crewmember? We also examine sibling relationships, some needed self-reflection for Burnham, and Spock/Stamets fanfic. They also look at the dichotomy about Section 31 and Star Trek moralism - as well as casting the "Space Girls."What was your favorite part of "Project Daedalus"?

Project Daedalus. As the USS Discovery attempts to infiltrate the defenses protecting Section 31's home base, home to the group's threat assessment system known as Control, Commander Airiam endandgers the search for the Red Angel as she struggle to maintain her own identify after being compromised by a program from the future. In this episode of The Edge, hosts Amy Nelson and Patrick Devlin discuss the importance of Airiam's backstory, Admiral Cornwell, and the cause of Spock's extreme behavior. Plus, we debate Airiam's death, possible paths to the transformation of Discovery's computer into Zora, and the role of Spock's relation with Michael in his efforts to reconcile logic and the end of all sentient life in the galaxy. When Discovery pays a visit to Section 31, we find out there's more than 31 flavors and definitely more than 31 mines. But when Airiam tags along on an away team it's time for the space suits to really kick into gear. Will Spock and Michael come to an agreement? Have we lost Stamets' quips? Don't forget to save your memories. It's the episode that gives you a god shot, but saves you the Rod shot!#MAXFUNDRIVE 2019Support our show at www.maximumfun.org/donate
Star Trek uncorks another ‘bottle episode’ of exquisite taste as we learn more about Section 31 and crewman Airiam and the Spock/Burnham upbringing. But a bit of bad news from the media bums out one of the Micheaux Men very much.
Host CHASE MASTERSON (Deep Space Nine) is joined by special guests LISA KLINK (writer, Star Trek Voyager) and JEFF BOND (author, The World of The Orville) to discuss Project Daedalus and the tragic fate of Airiam as we lose control and go where no one has gone before on the ultimate #StarTrekDIscovery podcast. On this week's episode, Anita and Ebony spend about 47 minutes marveling at some absolutely stunning fan art: https://www.flickr.com/photos/femfreq/47334419082/. With the time they have left, they discuss their joy at FINALLY getting some backstory on Airiam, only to have her spoiler. Fuzzy Spock is growing on both of us (just like his beard is taking over his face) and Captain Pike reminds us all that he can be talked into absolutely anything. Shout out to @barez_mardukhi for his artistic vision!
Even though Discovery went rogue just last week, "Project Daedalus" has them teaming up with a Starfleet admiral to cause a ruckus. This time they're heading over to that troublesome Section 31 to depose the Logic Extremist at the top. As happens from time to time in the Star Trek universe, things don't turn out to be exactly as they seem. Directed by Star Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes, and written by newcomer to the franchise Michelle Paradise. She's written a bunch of episodes of CW's "The Originals" so don't go thinking she's a rookie. This episode also has Jayne Brooke returning as Admiral Cornwell, and Hannah Cheesman in what seems to be a pretty momentous episode for Airiam.
Christian and Frank are Floboless for this episode of the Star Trek: Discovery Aftershow.
