Hello dear listener,As you know, the lunar cycle helps us pay attention because it's always changing. Lunar tracking shows us how to find our own rhythm and energy amidst the fluctuations. It reminds us that we don't have to fix ourselves - and can actually help us feel empowered to be more in-season with where we are at currently. On today's episode I have the pleasure of speaking with published author and coach Vanessa Wright about ways to feel empowered and flow with life's challenges and how pausing can lead to transformation. She shares about how her practice of lunar tracking and purposefully seeing joy supported her through perimenopause to menopause, and the lasting effects this had on her creativity and view of cycles and seasons. In our conversation Vanessa describes her experience of returning to her ancestral lands in Italy and a powerful Moonstory that marks a major turning-point in her journey. Moonstories are what I like to call the moments in our lives when the presence of the moon was witnessing us at a pivotal crossroads. In these moments, we can feel like we are actually not alone and may receive new insight to continue on our path. I loved what she shared and I hope it inspires you to notice your own Moonstory moments. We muse about the reliability of the moon - especially when things can feel unmoored or like everyone else is relying on us and we need something that can hold us - in this case during big life initiations like menopause. This is a great episode for moms and people in caretaking roles who want to feel more inspired to find five minutes a day to connect with themselves to reduce stress and invite more awareness and magic. There are some incredible insights we shared about not having to do it “right” with the moon, but being curious and noticing patterns to sense our own energy. Join us as we explore practices that are replenishing, but aren't always the same - as we cycle through different stages of life. Vanessa is a certified life coach, writer, seasoned homeschooling mom, and speaker dedicated to empowering midlife mothers through her FLOW method. She helps women reclaim their energy, creativity, and joy by fostering sustainable self-care practices. In this episode she gives us a glimpse of her FLOW self-care method and the benefits of awareness at each stage of life.Feed your body, mind, spiritLove yourself and lean into your season of lifeOwn your time and spaceWeed out what's not working and welcome something new. SANKOFA CHICAGO: THE UNTOLD, 102 minutes, USA Directed by Vanessa Wright Sankofa Chicago: The Untold is a powerful documentary that is the second part of a three-part series exposing the inadequacies of American History curriculums in Chicago Public Schools, a problem across the US. It highlights the overlooked contributions of Black and Brown people in American history. It explores methods of enhancing the current History and Social Science curriculum and alternative avenues for incorporating this vital history into other academic disciplines. The film stresses the significance of accurate representation and continuous learning, inspiring viewers to question conventional narratives and seek a more comprehensive understanding of American history. http://www.sankofachicago.com/ Get to know the filmmaker: The motivation behind creating “Sankofa Chicago: The Untold” stems from a twofold source of inspiration. Firstly, the positive feedback received from the previous installment in the series, “Sankofa Chicago,” encouraged the pursuit of this sequel, affirming its potential to resonate with and educate a broad audience. Secondly, I was motivated to create “Sankofa Chicago: The Untold” because my two kids are currently studying social science and history in the Chicago Public School system. I felt a strong need to investigate what they were learning and explore various ways in which they could be exposed to their history, mainly black history and the histories of other ethnic groups. My motivation stems from a personal passion for uncovering untold histories. Throughout my life, I've been intrigued by the idea of delving into the hidden narratives of our past. Sharing these stories can enrich my children's education and contribute to a more inclusive and comprehensive learning experience for everyone. As a parent, I'm acutely aware that we don't always have complete insight into what our kids are learning, which further fueled my desire to provide a glimpse into their education, shed light on why it matters, and explore alternatives for teaching history. This is the first of our new series of monthly nourishing conversations with real, wise women practicing nourishment just like you and me. In this episode, you'll learn about a woman's journey on the path of nourishment, which included growing up in a 100% Italian family, losing herself in her 20s, infertility struggles, starting on a health journey for her family, and how she discovered that self-care and nourishment were not optional, but rather CRITICAL. In this episode, we laugh at times and we also go deep. We keep it real. And most importantly, we feel our hearts nourished by the authenticity, connection, and real, non-fluffy inspiration that we all need to keep going in today's world. Enjoy the listen! In her friendly and distinctly honest way, Vanessa’s blog and social media posts tack between raising healthy kids and nurturing a healthy self. Her unexpected journey into homeschooling her three kids, now teenagers, has taught her practical, living lessons about how young people shape their own identities -- and how we can do the same in adulthood. In this real and funny conversation, Vanessa and Justin explore the critical need for parents (especially primary caregivers) to practice self-care and sustainable boundaries to be the best parent they can be. Other topics include Vanessa’s recent 365 days of yoga, as well as her evolving spiritual life as a Christian, drawing her toward the stories of women in the Christian tradition, including Mary Magdalene.
