This passage is essentially the thesis statement of the whole Sermon. It also brings us face-to-face with one of the most heated theological issues – discerning the relationship between the Old Testament and New Testament. We will take the time to see how Jesus fits into Redemptive History and the part He plays for our good and God's glory.------------------------------------------- Connect with us on Social Media Website | Instagram | Threads | Facebook | Vimeo------------------------------------------- Download our AppApple App Store | Google Play Store

Hey everyone. Dr. Brandon Crowe is one of the most prolific authors on the faculty at Westminster and teaches several classes here. Nate sits down to talk with him about his approach to teaching New Testament. They cover a lot of topics, but one thing that shines through is how Biblical Theology, Redemptive History, and Systematic Theology are woven together in a way that highlights the interconnected nature of the theological disciplines in the curriculum at Westminster. I hope you enjoy it! If you enjoy this episode, you can access tons of content just like this at wm.wts.edu. As we continue through Samuel's history, leading up to the establishment of the monarchy "at home" in Israel, we see a series of national mishaps and also acts of sovereign mercy along the way. Fitting within the whole scope of Redemptive History, we find the telltale contours of the Triune Lord, pursuing a wicked and wayward bride through persistent acts of extraordinary patience shown to a people who did not deserve it, but were nonetheless those upon whom God special favor rested. This evening, we see God's granting the demand of Israel to "have a king over us," thinking that a king would solve their problems, they again missed God's lessons as to where true salvation and security rested - not in a corrupt and human actor who had been granted authority, but in a righteous man, after God's own heart. Sometimes getting exactly what you want is not an act of Divine blessing but cursing, and so we must know what to ask for, and it must be in accordance with God's will. When Jesus taught that impurity comes from within, was he departing from the Old Testament? Pastor John considers purity across the covenants.

Nehemiah 1:1-11 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it happened in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Susa the citadel, 2 that Hanani, one of my brothers, came with certain men from Judah. And I asked them concerning the Jews who escaped, who had survived the exile, and concerning Jerusalem. 3 And they said to me, “The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and shame. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire.” 4 As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven. 5 And I said, “O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Even I and my father's house have sinned. 7 We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules that you commanded your servant Moses.8 Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, 9 but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.' 10 They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand. 11 O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” Now I was cupbearer to the king.

Even as God's last plague strikes, His actions in freeing the Israelites are meant to display His character and justice. These events happen so we'll know Him, draw near to Him and proclaim His name.
One of the most prevalent identities of the Church in the Scriptures is that of a Family. From the Case Law given in Leviticus 20: 4-5, we learn that we are our brothers keeper. We also see through Redemptive History that health families multiply.
Episode 196: Pentecost: A Discussion with Dick Gaffin and Nancy Guthrie This week we have a crossover episode with Conversations on the Bible with Nancy Guthrie. If we look at the thread of "Temple" through Redemptive History, we will see that God is still building His Temple one living stone by one living stone. The Church Temple is a Mission to participate with God to expand His Glory.

Jesus in Redemptive History – examples from Edwards (pages 102-106)Jesus' Use of Redemptive History – (Jesus' humanity needed teaching; Jesus grew in knowledge; Jesuslearned by listening, reading, and studying; Jesus' most important source of knowledge was the OT; Jesus knew the OT better than anyone ever did) ~ all of this taught him about His past, person, purpose, principles, people, praises. For more information about this group, please visit their website at reformationboise.com. In Leviticus 21, God forbids men with physical defects from participating as full priests. How do we reconcile this prohibition with Jesus's approach to the disabled?
How can we become instruments in Christ's hands as he builds his church? In this episode of Light + Truth, John Piper answers that question from Acts 1:1–3.
