Sales funnels. You might be thinking: those are one of those complicated things everyone says you need in order to be successful, but really… they’re probably just a distraction from what you really need. Right? Actually… No. (Sorry, not sorry.) In fact, if there’s ONE thing a business needs -- it’s a sales funnel. Good news though! EVERY business (that successfully makes money) manages to check this box -- even if unintentionally. Sales funnels don’t need to be complex. Here’s the thing… a “sales funnel” is just the process that your potential customers go through to find out about your business, decide to buy your product, and then purchase. Donut shops have sales funnels. Hair salons have sales funnels. Coaching businesses have sales funnels. Software companies have sales funnels. Amazon has a sales funnel. Literally, EVERY business has one. But if you don’t intentionally design your funnel, then it’s unlikely that it will work very well. Listen to the full episode to hear: Why EVERY business needs a strategic sales funnel to make money Everything you need to know about funnels, including what they are, how they work, and how to set one up for yourself My best tips for creating a sales funnel that generates the max number of sales The four components you need in order for your sales funnels to be as SUCCESSFUL as possible Learn more about Gillian Attract Paying Customers Action Plan Join Startup Society (promo code: earnmore) Startup Society Profit Planning Challenge Get in touch!

This example is from an interview by Lars Ulrich (the drummer for Metallica) who is interviewing Noel Gallagher (of Oasis) and Lars asks him how he feels about doing some of the older songs that were mammoth hits in the 90's when he has his own solo songs now. Noel starts to answer the question on how it makes his audience feel, Lars interrupts and asks, "But what do they mean to YOU." Lars then does something brilliant and Noel takes a deep breath. He shuts up and lets him think. The longer he lets him think - the better the answer. Eventually, Noel explains how those songs mean the world to him. Noel wasn't really answering the question, and Lars pointed him in the right direction. Catch the who interview on YouTube Thanks to Wayne Henderson of mediavoiceovers.com for his awesome tones. Our first pandemic podcast featuring Carin-Isabel Knoop, Executive Director of the Global Research Group at Harvard Business School. First published at www.get5.io/podcast Carin Knoop is the Executive Director of the Global Research Group / Case Research & Writing Group at Harvard Business School, supporting faculty research and the development of about one-third of the School’s case study output and other types of research. She is a published researcher and co-author of the book Compassionate Management of Mental Health in the Modern Workplace, published last year. Carin started attending HBS in 1992 to study her MBA, moving 10 metres from her dorm room to her office when she stayed on as a research associate. She explains that she came to HBS because she was interested in how organisations work, but fell in love with the academic side of things and decided to stay. On the question of who should be managing and measuring culture in an organisation, Carin argues that everyone in the company is responsible for this. Why? Every person in an organisation makes decisions based on the company’s culture, for instance whether they will leave the company or whether to reinforce behaviours they deem as productive, etc. “It’s really important to create an environment at work where you can have an open conversation.” Carin believes that, as s a manager, you should be making even more effort to ‘touch’ your employees — to make a difference in their lives and help them make a way through these difficult times. “You need to change and think about how you’re going to build the culture.” Carin had met Clayton Christensen, the HBS professor who developed the theory of disruptive innovation first described in his 1997 book, The Innovator’s Dilemma. He also developed the concept of the Job To Be Done, which is something Carin often thinks of in terms of education and what it needs to accomplish in the world today. “It’s a time of amazing reinvention.” Timestamp notes: 0.11 — Hilarious introduction 1.54 — Carin’s background and what she does at Harvard Business School 2.30 — The global impact of research at HBS 3.10 — Mental health in light of COVID-19 9.22 — Stressors in the workplace and the low-hanging fruit for managers to help 10.14 — What’s the culture like at Harvard Business School 11.40 — The impact of the pandemic on higher education 13.15 — Carin’s career & the HBS ecosystem 14.50 — Who should be managing & measuring culture in an organisation? What is a difference between a font-family and a typeface? How does one define / gauge / comment that a particular font is bad and good? For e.g.: Comic sans is considered to be an ugly font. Why? Every typeface has a particular emotion. Is there any other way to feel the mood of that typeface? A lot of times, in a given context of a word or typography, 2 letters are mathematically equi-distant but they feel to be visually off. Why does that happen? What is the way to correct them? What are the challenges of designing font for Indian scripts? Why do we always have these serif and san-serif font pairs. Any suggestions to spread the importance of Typography, especially to designers so they get inspired to design fonts and typefaces for Indian context?
The Why Every once in a while, I ask the women in my Business Mindset Alchemists private Facebook group what they'd like me to talk about on this show, and the topic of woo came up: how to get over your fear of sharing your woo. This is something I've personally struggled with, and I know it's something other people struggle with. I'm going to be honest here: I'm still not 100% open about my woo, and I would really like to be. I think I'm still taking baby steps to get there. If you've been following me for any amount of time, you've probably been seeing it come out little by little. I knew this wasn't a topic that I considered myself to be an expert on, so I contacted four online business friends I considered to be experts on the topic, and asked them about their experiences. I asked them for their top tips on how people can get over their fear of sharing their woo, so people can be 100% authentic and aligned and open online...if that's what they want. And so I got together this small group of four “woo experts,” people whom I consider to be open about their woo, to record mini interviews on the topic. This extended episode took a couple of months to pull together, and I'm super excited that it's ready for your ears. The Definition Let's talk about “woo.” It's a heavy word, and as you'll hear in the episode, some of the experts don't like the word at all. Joanna Hennon even said she hated it. It's not surprising why: while I like the word, because I love woo stuff, and I see it as the secret sauce to many of the women I love working with, the official definitions are pretty derogatory. Let's take a look: Woo-woo. adjective ˈwü-ˌwü dubiously or outlandishly mystical, supernatural, or unscientific. Merriam-Webster.com. Woo-woo. adjective/ˈwuːˌwuː (derogatory, slang) based on or involving irrational superstition. Dictionary.com Yeah. So, not very positive. It's easy to see why so many people feel uncomfortable with sharing their woo side. And yet, as Lisa Wechtenhiser says on the show, “Everybody has it to one degree or another.” And it's true. It's just a matter of how you integrate that into your life and business. Today's Guests And so, without further ado...I'm super excited to introduce today's guests...that's right, guests! I've got four “woo experts” on the show today, for this extended episode. Cara Wilde of Soul Inc., who helps people who are called to co-create a Heaven on Earth. She helps people to channel their guide, to achieve their Souls Goals in this lifetime, and to live their most joy-fueled life. She was previously a guest on episodes 13 and 116. Lisa Wechtenhiser is a channel for Guides and Teachers in Spirit. She calls herself the Trust Whisperer, because she helps people to develop unwavering trust in themselves. She was previously a guest on episode 88. Rebecca Kane guides women on their SHEro's Journey by providing clarity, community, and support to women who want to explore who they are at a deep level. She was recently a guest on episode 191. Joanna Hennon is a channel who works with the Spirit Guides. She helps people to step into their greatness by accessing their Soul Wisdom and taking soul-inspired action. She was previously a guest on episodes 86, 158 and 178. Listen to this episode What You’ll Learn Top tips from four experts on how you can be more open about your woo side How they overcame their fear of being judged for their woo How their businesses changed when they started to be more open about their woo Why some of the experts really don't like the word “woo” How to introduce your woo side to people How to know when to share and when not to Why being open can make your business more fun Why the world needs more stuff like this How to help others feel comfortable with the woo stuff How to own it as part of who you are Why the judgment is all about other people's fears How to know when you're at the point of no return in sharing your woo Baby steps you can take to get more comfortable in sharing Where to start talking about it first Why introducing your woo is like practicing your elevator pitch Thing We Discussed It's Not Woo. At the beginning of his biography of Jesus, Matthew calls our attention to an awkward story from the Old Testament. Why? Every family has skeletons in its closet: things we know about, but don't talk about. So why does Matthew dredge that stuff up now? Pastor Luke preaches from Genesis 38:1-28 in "Skeletons in the Closet," the first message in a new series, "Who is Christmas For."
