These episodes are perfect for anyone, even if you just want some recommendations for wineries to visit at these locations.... I got you! “We've come a long way since our opening in 2000,” says Bill Wilson, founder and co-owner of Wilson Creek Winery. “And, while much has changed here at the winery and in the valley, our focus, our mission is exactly the same as when we first started.” That focus has paid off with Wilson Creek Wines winning prestigious awards. Wilson Creek's Petite Sarah won “Best Red in the Valley,” at the annual Temecula Valley Winegrowers' Association Awards. Wilson Creek is one of only a few wineries in Southern California to receive a 90-plus ratings for its wines from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Fairly new to Wilson Creek, our Library room offers a guided sit down wine tasting of these library wines that are not offered to the general public. Wilson Creek prides itself on offering a multi-dimensional wine experience. We welcome those new to wine and take them through a wine journey as they develop and expand their palate. We also focus on wine education. Wilson Creek is the only winery in the Temecula Valley that offers training to guests in all aspects of wine making through our Wine Academies. Our Winemaker and Vineyard Manager are professors at two area colleges. Wilson Creek Winery has also been active in the community since its inception. The winery has won Temecula Valley's “Business of the Year” four times. The winery is involved with numerous charitable events each year raising thousands of dollars for charities One thing that won't change at Wilson Creek it the commitment to family. Almost the entire Wilson family has been involved with the winery since the beginning. On any given day, you will find Matriarch Rosie Wilson with her dog perusing the grounds, or any number of Wilsons at work behind the scenes. “We started the business as a family project, and everyone pitched in from day one,” says Wilson. “Through the years it has become a tradition to treat our guests as our extended family and make family a big part of the Wilson Creek experience.” Like the fine wines it serves, Wilson Creek Winery keeps getting better with age.
Happy wine Wednesday! Today is part two of our conversation with my anonymous guest with the alias "Mr Wilson Creek". It's time to get spicy! He gets into the topic of poppers and bathhouses, including his personal experiences with the two. He ends off the episode with his thoughts on being gay and Latino, and how that has affected his relationships among his religious family members. There's mentions of machismo, being accepted and religion. Also.... he just nonchalantly mentioned an exorcism like nothing???? LMAO trust you need to listen to know what I am talking about. He gets real deep today so I hope you enjoy today's episode and appreciate his vulnerability as much as I did. The young city of Ellensburg caught fire around 10:30 p.m. on July 4th, 1889, and by the time the flames were put out four hours later, ten downtown blocks and the residences of 200 people had been destroyed. While the location of the fire, what happened, and how the community rebuilt the city in four months are all known, the cause has never been established.Ellensburg, the county seat of Kittitas County, is three miles from the Yakima River and Wilson Creek confluence, at Washington's geographic center. The Kittitas band of Yakama Indians, as well as other Columbia plateau tribes, gathered at the site. The town was created in 1871 by John Shoudy and Mary Ellen Stewart Shoudy, and the first streets were laid out in 1875. Ellensburg became a city in 1884. The Northern Pacific Railroad came in 1886, and the town grew, becoming a banking and commercial center as well as a social focus for the Kittitas Valley's farming and ranching communities. Ellensburg was able to quickly rebuild following the fire on July 4, 1889, because to its prosperity. The Washington State Normal School (now Central Washington University) was founded in 1891 and quickly grew into a major employer. The downtown district was designated as a National Historic District on July 1st, 1977, and it is an excellent example of Western pioneer architecture. The annual Kittitas County Fair and Ellensburg Rodeo attracts world-class rodeo competitors and guests from all across the region every Labor Day weekend.Listen now to learn more about this central Washington town and the fire that left it devastated in July of 1889!A special thank you goes out to Al Hirsch for providing the music for the podcast, check him out on YouTube.Find merchandise for the podcast now available at: https://washington-history-by-jon-c.creator-spring.comIf you enjoy the podcast and would like to contribute, please visit: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/EvergreenpodIf you have any questions, episode ideas you'd like to see explored, or just have a general comment, please reach out at Historyoftheevergreenstatepod@gmail.comTo keep up on news for the podcast and other related announcements, please like and follow:https://www.facebook.com/HistoryoftheevergreenstatepodcastThank you for listening!

Back in 2011 I was approached by Curesearch, a nonprofit dedicated to eradicating children's cancer, asking if I'd be interested in helping with a new fundraising program they were starting, the Ultimate Hike. The deal was this: I would lead a 12-week training program with the ultimate goal of hiking 28.3 miles on the Foothills Trail straddling the North Carolina / South Carolina line — that's 28.3 miles all in one day. Along the way, they would vow to fundraise a minimum of $2,500 to help fight kids cancer. Hiking and helping kids? Who could refuse that! One of the hikers on my second hike was Chris Morton. Chris and his wife, Candi, were casual hikers with a keen interest in Ultimate Hike's mission: their 1-year-old daughter had a rare form of liver cancer and was undergoing treatment at the Duke Cancer Center in Durham, North Carolina. So motivated by the hike and Curesearch's mission was Chris that he continued doing the hike after that first year. When I left as coach of the Triangle area after five years, Chris became my replacement.Chris now has 20 Ultimate Hikes under his belt, and is gearing up to lead yet another group of hikers in the battle against childhood cancer. Chris joins us today to tells us about the Ultimate Hike, from his boots-on-the-ground perspective. If you're intrigued by the idea of hiking 28.3 miles in a day and helping kids with cancer at the same time, go to the Ultimate Hike website for the Foothills hike for additional information and to find the time of the next information session. And, register by January 15 and enter the code HIKENC at checkout and save 50 percent off the $100 registration fee,Don't live in the Triangle area of North Carolina? The Vicious Circle had the Algonquin Roundtable, "Friends" had The Perk, and the "Cheers" gang had their beloved bar. And backpackers? Backpackers have The Campfire. Now, non-campers generally believe the purpose of the campfire is to keep warm, maybe cook food. But backpackers know otherwise. Yes, a good fire helps us stay awake past 6 o'clock on a winter trip. (From The 03/07/2020 Show) It feels as if spring has arrived! Trout streams are being stocked, state supported waters are temporarily closed, and all the rest, such as wild trout waters, are open. The Outdoor Guys open the show today discussing the waters of the Carolinas and talking about these in-and-outs of fishing. Don even recommends checking out the delayed harvest water this time of year – the fish are naive and willing to be caught – and that’s always a good thing! From waters such as Jacobs Fork, Green River, Mitchell River, Wilson Creek, and Helton Creek, you can’t go wrong this time of year.
Just as there are various seasons of life, so we all go through different seasons of temptation. In this message preached at Wilson Creek’s annual meeting, Brother Luke preaches about the seasons of temptation we face and how to handle those seasons in a God-honoring way. Seasons of Temptation

Mick Wilson's Amazing Tales about Hosting AmaWaterways Wine River Cruises Throughout Europe: After being a wine river cruise host for AmaWaterways, from Prague to Budapest, Mick Wilson was interviewed by Paul Lasley on the syndicated On Travel Radio Show about his experiences on the Danube River with AmaWaterways. He loved the trip and enjoyed educating passengers of wine from his winery in the Temecula Valley, a new region to wine making that is just south of Los Angeles about 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean as the crow flies. Mick Wilson, a co-owner of Wilson Creek Winery with the rather large Wilson family, knew that many of the passengers would be new to wines from the Temecula Valley region, he is used to that, and found it challenging conducting tastings that contrasted with European varietals and fascinating doing it with AmaWaterways' chefs creating five star cuisine for the food pairings. AmaWaterways is widely considered the premier river cruise line in the travel industry and their line of wine river cruises that consistently sell out well in advance. Each wine river cruise host conducts a series of wine seminars, with food pairings, on board ship and at local European vineyards that the passengers get to tour along the route. Wine River Cruises are now operating on the Rhine, Danube, Rhone, Seine, Mosel and Douro Rivers, the last one in Portugal. About Mick Wilson: Mick has been a co-owner and employee at Wilson Creek since its founding in the late nineties. Mick has received the coveted Sommelier certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, as well as the Certified Specialist of Wine accreditation from the Society of Wine Educators. "My desire is to know as much as I can about wine. The more one knows about wine, the more fun it is. I also want to continue to learn so that I may help empower our guests and staff on their wine knowledge and wine experience." About Wilson Creek Winery: Nestled at the end of Rancho California Road in Temecula Valley lies our family estate vineyard and winery. When the Wilson family acquired a 20-acre winery in 1996, our intentions were simple. We wanted to run a fun, family business producing great wines from the conducive climate and soil of the Temecula Valley. In fact, the only previous winemaking experience in our family was Gerry and Rosie Wilson's attempts to make dandelion and rhubarb wine in their basement in Minnesota! We've come quite a long way.... Home of the famous Almond Sparkling Wine, the winery has garnered numerous prestigious international wine awards and Gerry is proud that Wilson Creek is unofficially the official winery of many Navy ships, including eight aircraft carriers. The entire family is still involved. You can feel the energy and personal touch when you visit the large tasting room, and visit with the family members that are always on the property. The ambience of Wilson Creek continues to be very warm and welcoming. Among the many guests favorites, the award winning Decadencia® Chocolate Dessert Wine is served in an edible chocolate shot glass for an extra special touch. If you have visited the winery, then you have seen the fabulous pavilion and gazebo and jazz stage. Weddings are our specialty, and we have had hundreds of amazing weddings. Plan your next private event with us or to attend an upcoming winery event. Be sure to join our Wine Club to begin enjoying the special privileges of being part of our extended family.
History of Temecula Valley Wine Making with Mick Wilson, AmaWaterways Wine River Cruise Host: During his interview with Paul Lasley, on the syndicated On Travel Radio Show, Mick Wilson talks about the short history of winemaking in the Temecula Valley, just south of Los Angeles and 20 miles inland from the coast. Mick Wilson, co-owner of the Wilson Creek Winery, hosted an AmaWaterways Wine River Cruise in Europe and was pleased at being able to introduce the Temecula Valley wines to passengers who had never heard of this relatively new region of wine making. Similar to the South Rhone Valley in France, the Mediterranean climate has a nice ocean breeze, hot days and cool nights that is ideal for growing wine grapes. Forty years ago there was virtually no development in the region, thirty years ago Eli Callaway, famous golf club designer, began a winery and now there are 40 wineries in the area with ten more about to built in next few years. AmaWaterways will have Mick Wilson and his family host another wine river cruise in November 2015. Each wine river cruise host conducts a series of wine seminars, with food pairings, on board ship and at local European vineyards, assist in conducting tours of those same vineyards and mingle with the passengers. The wine river cruise program is a huge hit with AmaWaterways clients and they often sign up for another wine cruise immediately, often with the same hosts and years in advance. Start of Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula Valley, South of L.A., Now Exploding with Wine Production: In the last 20 years the Temecula Valley, south of Los Angeles and just inland, has seen an explosion of vineyards from nothing. The ocean breeze comes through the Rainbow Gap 20 miles away and with hot days and cool nights it a perfect Mediterranean climate, similar to the south Rhone Valley, for growing wine grapes. Mick Wilson, who hosted an AmaWaterways Luxury Wine River Cruise with his parents and wife, is part of the large Wilson family that founded the Wilson Creek Winery in 1996 and they have found success after starting from scratch. They were a socialite family in South Pasadena brought their Midwestern hospitality to the Temecula Valley and their facility hosts upwards of 1,200 people a day every weekend at their picnic grounds with live music and their massive wine tasting room. The Wilson Creek Winery has flagship wine in the Almond flavored sparkling along with a line that includes Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, White Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonay and more. Mick Wilson is being interviewed on this podcast by Paul Lasley on the On Travel Radio show about hosting an AmaWaterways Luxury Wine River Cruise in Europe. He thoroughly enjoyed hosting the cruise and educating the passengers on wines from the Temecula Valley, with many unaware of the place, and pleased at what they tasted along with five star food pairings on board the first class AmaWaterways river cruise ship.
