Episode 147 Doe ID: 'Dumpster Jane Doe' Laurie Potter On October 5th, 2003, a maintenance worker at at the Country Hills Apartment complex in Rancho San Diego, made a horrific discovery in a dumpster when he found a set of severed legs. It was just the beginning of a shocking and perplexing mystery. The legs were found to have come from an adult woman who was deemed to be a homicide victim. Although police did not find any more of her remains, they did find an important clue; the military-style bag that had held her legs was also recovered, and years later, it would lead to the woman's killer. When police ran out of clues early on, and could not match the legs to any missing person in the area, they buried the remains, but not before collecting DNA from them. Years later, investigators employed investigative genetic genealogy and were able to learn that 'Dumpster Jane Doe' was actually Laurie Potter. She had gone missing from Temecula CA not long before her legs were found in the dumpster. Most troubling to detectives, was that her husband Jack Potter had never reported her missing. They began an investigation of him that revealed surprising details, and a 'concerned neighbor' helped them fill in some blanks. When Jack Potter's DNA was found on the bag which had contained his wife's legs, that combined with his neighbor's story, was enough to arrest him. He pled guilty to her murder, and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. 'Dumpster Jane Doe' now has her name back, it's Laurie Potter, and this is her story. Message by Steve Salomon "Life Plan" The new year is a great time to consider making some changes - and who knows - perhaps one sticks for the long term, making our lives just a little bit better. One of the great things about life is our ability to assess where we are and then tweak things here and there to get us to a better place, with better relationships, a healthier life, a steadier head, and a happier heart. Every Sunday we'll consider making some changes based on God's vision for our best life. It'll be a guilt-free, pressure-free, grace-based zone making a Life Plan and seeing what happens from there. Who knows, you just might emerge with a life that's a little bit better. It's 2024 and for some in politics, nothing is sacred. Not Arlington. Not 9/11. Not America. Nothing. And those people have our enemies celebrating. But not Independent Americans. And not on this show. This show is a celebration of the people who put country over party. The people who choose the right way over the easy way. And this show is a celebration of America and the American people. And so when RFK Jr and Laura Loomer spread absurd and idiotic conspiracy theories about 9/11 on 9/11, you better believe we're going to call them out on it. Meanwhile, at the same time they were out trying to cast doubt on the bravery of our heroes, we were gathered. Gathered in the historic site where George Washington declared he would not be a king to his men before returning home. Gathered to make the official introduction of the nine Independent Veterans of America endorsed independent veteran candidates from all across the country. From local counties in South Dakota to the US Senate in Washington. An Inspiring and dynamic group of independent veterans that are working to shape a better future for us all. Be like them. Work to build the future, not tear it down. Leaders like Eric Faulkner, a former Navy Master Chief and a refreshing dose of positivity that wants to be a voice for the voiceless and promote positive change. His campaign for City Council in Temecula, California is a mission to help build a stronger community while setting a strong example that inspires others. He's a strong independent who wants to build unity over division while representing diverse views, building flexibility in governance, and being an advocate for change. He's an inspiring leader we think you're going to want to hear more from. It's the latest in our ongoing and groundbreaking “Meet the Independent Candidates” series. And Paul's got a new segment! It's called, “While most Americans didn't notice”. And you gonna wanna notice it! And, his thoughts on Jill Stein, Tommy Tuberville and more. Every episode of Independent Americans is independent light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's content for the 51% of Americans that now call themselves independent. Always with a unique focus on national security, foreign affairs and military and vets issues. This is another pod to help you stay vigilant. Because vigilance is the price of democracy. Welcome to the Stoke it up! podcast. A podcast encouraging you and your journey with God. I'm Alan Stoddard and I am your Stoke Coast. Today we have Pastor Josh Black with us. Josh is the lead pastor of Victory Calvary Chapel in Menifee California. I met Josh at the Expositors Collective in Temecula California last August. We just happened to run into each other in the latte line. I jumped ahead of them kind of so I thought, “You should buy his latte.“ And the rest is history. He preached part of the Expositors' experience. He did the talk on Christ Center preaching and I was enamored with it. I knew I loved this dude. Well, the next day, I got to teach the Bible at his church. And I noticed something unique about this church. It was very stoked. Let's jump in and get some questions going and see what it might look like to lead a normal, but vibrant local church into 2024. As you listen, let's listen to increase our leadership skillset.

My friend Frasier Perez, who grew up in Temecula California, shares his story of being an early release missionary from the McAllen, Texas mission. Frasier, during his first transfer, shares realizing he was experiencing something different than normal homesickness as this emotional health declined which led to thoughts of suicide. Frasier bravely opened up with those thoughts to his mission leaders, companion, and family which led to the help he needed and deserved. During his second transfer, once things didn't improve, Frasier returned home. Frasier talks about what people in his circle did to help him feel welcome and loved and offers suggestions on what we can do to improve our culture to be more loving and accepting.
