Blindside is looking for high tenors, low basses and Mezzos! Blindside is a small a cappella group, looking to fill out our lineup.  Founded by blind individuals, Blindside has a big passion for helping others and would love to include more visually impaired members, but the bottom line is, we’re looking for fun, funny, talented people with a desire to make great music together!  We focus on contemporary rock/pop covers, but we're not going to shy away from the right classics or comedy tunes, as long as they form part of a cohesive set.  Depending on the gig, we'll  pepper our shows with originals as well. What we’re looking for:               *A talented high tenor  - we'll know the right fit when we hear it.  Strong solo chops need to be balanced against the ability to pull back into the chord and harmonize with the whole.               *A resonant low bass (Beatbox skills are valuable, but not essential) – This person needs to have at least a strong low D or lower.  Blend is important, but also the ability to adapt to a wide variety of styles.  A strong solo voice is also needed. *A solid mezzo singer.  The range isn’t as important as the ability to blend with the boys as well as rock out solos like a boss! While not essential, arranging ability, basic music theory and previous a cappella experience are definite pluses.  Most important is attitude.  We’re looking for members who have a strong work ethic and are passionate about their craft, but who enjoy singing on street corners or in restaurants for no other reason than it's fun. Time commitment:  Blindside rehearses twice a week for two hours each, or once a week for three hours.  Additional or alternate rehearsals can arise before performances based on availability.  Must be flexible for gigging since that will be a focus of the group.  Pay will only come from paid performances. I'm reaching out to you about a very special performance being put together in the Carolinas on the 21st of  June, 2017!  Many years ago, Gov. Hodges declared June 21 to be O.C. Smith Day.  In case you don’t recognize that name, O.C. Smith was a Grammy-winning soul and R&B singer who was best known for the song, “Little Green Apples.”  He had a reputation for integrity and doing good for others as well as being a well-loved artist within the music industry. Robert F. Smith is the blind son of the late O.C. Smith and has followed in his father’s footsteps in not only his love for music and performing, but also his enormous heart.  He started a non-for-profit organization called The Little Green Apples Project to inspire a million intentional acts of kindness.  Right now, he’s on a quest to help a 7-year-old boy named Tyler.  Tyler has autism and diabetes.  He is low-functioning and completely non-verbal and unable to tell his parents when his blood sugar drops, which can cause life-threatening seizures.  They have to monitor him 24/7 and it has cost them jobs as well as a home.  Robert is trying to raise $17,000 to get Tyler a specially trained service dog that can sense when Tyler is in danger and alert his parents.  Not only could this save Tyler’s life, but it could allow his parents to put their lives on track, secure in their son’s well-being. That’s where this performance comes in.  Robert has been pursuing his dream of singing the National Anthem and throwing out the first pitch at every Major and Minor League stadium in the country and is doing a whirlwind tour in North and South Carolina throughout June.  He’ll be fundraising and creating tournaments with his Toss To Target Game Towel.  But June 21st, his father’s birthday, is the crowning jewel.  We are hoping to honor both Robert and his late father and all the good works they’ve done with an all-a cappella event.  We hope this event will put us over the top and finally raise the money for Tyler – after all, what better way to pay homage to Robert’s father? I’ve got some massive news!  A 25 year old song by the Legendary Les Baxter (and me!) is being released for the first time by two blind guys and a guy with Cerebral Palsy to help save a 7-year-old boy’s life! http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/visionquestduo A 7 year old boy named Tyler is in trouble.  He has severe autism and is thus completely non-verbal.  To make things worse, he has diabetes and is unable to tell his parents when his blood sugar is low.  They have to watch him 24/7 and have lost jobs as well as their home and are struggling to keep their little boy alive, let alone stay afloat themselves.  What he needs is a service dog that cost $17,000 to train.  This dog could sense when his blood sugar is dropping and he’s about to seize and can alert the parents.  This one dog could save Tyler’s life and allow his parents to re-build, secure in the knowledge that their son is safe. That’s where my news comes in.  My good friend, Robert F. Smith, the blind son of the Grammy-winning O.C. Smith, heard about Tyler and decided he wanted to help.  Since Robert and I are in a brand new blind duo called Vision Quest Duo, we wanted to use our talents to raise the money to help Tyler.  Our agent happened to own the very last Christmas song ever written by the legendary Les Baxter, which has never been released.  More than 25 years later, my agent called me up and asked me to finish the song that Les Started.  It’s called “The Best Gift Of All This Christmas”. We have a friend who lives and works in Las Vegas named mark Giovi.  He has Cerebral Palsy, but doesn’t let that stop him.  He wanted to help Tyler as well.  So the three of us, two blind guys and a guy with Cerebral Palsy have banded together to bring Les Baxter’s song to the public for the first time and to use “The Best Gift Of All This Christmas” to hopefully give the gift of life to a little boy in Oregon.  With an orchestral score written by Peter K. Chudyba and having the vocals recorded in the Beach Boys old studio with Marty Rifkin, an engineering legend in his own right, having worked with Bruce Spring stein, Madonna, and even ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic, we feel we’ve given this song every chance at success to achieve our goal for Tyler. That’s where you come in.  The song is available for download on CDBaby, as well as on iTunes, Amazon and many other platforms.  I ask that each of you download the song and give us a 5-Star review.  The more reviews we have the more visibility the song will get.  Then, please pass this along to everyone you know.
