A lot of people out there, myself included, have felt there is no way to reach across the aisle in America. We are a divided nation and the heretics running wild and killing people are lost souls, possessed, demonic, and whatever else. Well, look to Christ. What does he say about our enemies? What does he say about prayer and love? Starting Sunday night at sundown PBN will begin a 3 day fast & prayer session for those lost souls in our nation who have been given to violence and even murder. We pray for those who persecute us. Today is Wednesday, August 6th and Happy Birthday to David Robinson I’m Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Times Journal Gem City Porch Jam on Maple Avenue is Aug. 10 Cobb Youth Leadership announces 2025-2026 Class Suspect charged with breaking into Delk Road Marriott rooms All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: INGLES 9 STORY 1: Gem City Porch Jam on Maple Avenue is Aug. 10 The Gem City Porch Jam is back, and it’s pure Marietta magic. On Aug. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., Maple Avenue transforms into a block party with a purpose—celebrating the first responders and city workers who keep this town running. Picture it: live music spilling from five porches, kids bouncing in a jumpy house, and neighbors chatting over drinks from Meltyard. There’s even a “Touch a Truck” setup (yes, Barney the Police Dog will be there) and a mobile skate rink courtesy of Sparkles. Admission’s free, but donations? Strongly encouraged. Every dollar helps fill Community Appreciation Bags for Marietta’s everyday heroes. STORY 2: Cobb Youth Leadership announces 2025-2026 Class The Cobb Youth Leadership program just announced its 2025-2026 class, and wow—this group is stacked with talent. Sponsored by the Leadership Cobb Alumni Association and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, CYL is all about building leadership skills and connecting students across the county. Here’s the lineup: Karmen Smith (Allatoona), Chimamanda Akano and Andrew Vincent (Campbell), Austin Richardson (Harrison), and a whole crew from Hillgrove—Gabby Oden, Ashley Bass, Reagan Bass, Jocelyn Jones, and Jordana Valdez. Marietta High? They’re bringing the squad: Chloe Herrero, Jack Ison III, Caleb Johnson, Rhodes Patrick, and more. This program, running since 1989, gives juniors a chance to dive into their community and grow as leaders. Got questions? Hit up Katie Guice at 770-859-2334. STORY 3: Suspect charged with breaking into Delk Road Marriott rooms Bradley Dekover Traylor, 44, of Atlanta, found himself in hot water after allegedly breaking into multiple rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott on Delk Road. It all went down early—around 8 a.m. on July 26, according to Marietta police. From Room 318, he reportedly swiped a Michael Kors watch, a black-and-silver cross necklace, and a gold necklace. The guest gave police a detailed description of the stolen items, and hotel staff pointed them toward Traylor. By 1:33 p.m., officers tracked him down at the Shell Station on Delk Road—with the jewelry still on him. He’s now sitting in Cobb County Jail, no bond. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: COBB INT. FESTIVAL STORY 4: End of an era: Roswell Street congregation to join Woodstock church Roswell Street Baptist Church, once a powerhouse in Marietta and a cornerstone of the Southern Baptist community, is starting a new chapter—one that’s bittersweet for many. After years of decline, the church will merge with First Baptist Woodstock, becoming its second location. The numbers tell the story: membership dropped from 9,200 in 2014 to just 3,600 last year. Weekly attendance? Down to 433. The church even had to demolish its historic chapel. Starting Sunday, Christian Norman, an associate pastor from Woodstock, will step in as Roswell Street’s new pastor. The merger will take six months to finalize, with a full relaunch planned for 2026—complete with a new name that nods to Roswell Street’s history while embracing its future. STORY 5: Cobb super kicks off school year with visit to Vaughan Elementary First day of school vibes were in full swing at Vaughan Elementary on Monday, and Cobb Schools Superintendent Chris Ragsdale made the rounds to wish students a great year ahead. Over 105,000 students and 17,000 staff returned across 113 schools, but at Vaughan, the Rockets were already soaring—literally reciting their motto: “Rockets of Vaughan soar on!” In Kelli Connor’s second-grade class, kids prepped for Ragsdale’s visit by comparing his traits to the mischievous “No David!” from David Shannon’s book. (Spoiler: Ragsdale’s character won out.) During a press conference—fielding questions from students, not reporters—Ragsdale praised Cobb’s teachers as “superstars” and touched on AI, new safety measures (hello, Vapor Wake K-9s), and the upcoming cell phone restrictions. Break: STORY 6: Mayor Tumlin to run again, serve through grandchildren’s eyes Mayor Steve “Thunder” Tumlin is running again—though, if you ask him, it wasn’t exactly his idea at first. But with three longtime council members—Andy Morris, Grif Chalfant, and Johnny Walker—stepping down, Tumlin, 78, felt a sense of duty. Born and raised in Marietta, Tumlin’s roots run deep. His six grandkids are either in Marietta schools or just graduated, and he says that perspective—seeing the city through their eyes—shapes his leadership. As for his challengers, 23-year-old Sam Foster and 26-year-old Sully Diaz, Tumlin’s ready to defend his record. On affordable housing, he’s all about balance. “If it’s not livable, it’s not affordable,” he said. The election’s set for November 4, with early voting starting October 14. STORY 7: 'No teeth': Mableton’s code enforcement waits on court Mableton took over its own code enforcement back in March, but there’s a snag—no municipal court yet to back it up. Without one, fines for violations? Not happening. The city’s first-ever municipal court is expected to open in “three to six months,” says spokesperson Gregory Woods. Until then, code enforcement is doing what it can, issuing about 160 violation notices a month. Compliance? Just 30% so far, though Woods says that’ll improve once the court’s running. The city’s working fast to get the court operational. They’ve already hired a court administrator, Mallory Minor, and are recruiting for key roles like judge and prosecutor. Once open, the court will focus on the worst violations first. For now, Mableton’s educating residents on compliance and resources. The court, when ready, will be at 1245 Veterans Memorial Highway. We’ll have closing comments after this. Break: INGLES 9 Signoff- Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. A Sunday morning sermon by Pastor Brett Deal. Every year during the festival of Weeks, the time more commonly known as Pentecost, the people of God would read the little book of Ruth. Annually they would take this short story from their past and listen to it again as it spoke into the current realities they were facing as well as the unknown, unseen possibilities of the future. Starting Sunday, we will walk in the fullness of Pentecost, reflecting on the story of Naomi and Ruth and what their Spirit-inspired story reveals to us about yesterday, today, tomorrow, and overmorrow. Most likely, you're well-acquainted with the first three time orientations, but that fourth might be new. Always a fan of a nuanced word, I stumbled across the Old English word while praying about this series. Overmorrow, in its simplest definition, is the day after tomorrow. Why did we ever stop saying it!? That little word lit my brain on fire! As I read and reread Ruth, I watched these four time stamps come alive. I found my soul kindled by the bright fire of overmorrow, illuminating hope beyond the horizon of tomorrow. But we only arrive at overmorrow by walking through yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We all, like Naomi and Ruth, have painful stories in our past. Our yesterday's tragedies can easily swallow up any hope we might have for the future. Ruth 1 does not shy away from the lamentable story of yesterday. It lays the weight of the past heavily on our shoulders with all its grief and tragedy. But it does not leave us there. Before we arrive at today, there is a glimpse, a glimmer…a hope of overmorrow.

Pastor Mike and Amber Albee Swenson preview the next sermon series that looks at the book of Daniel. They explore how Daniel faced immense challenges—from assimilation pressures to standing firm against idolatry. They highlight Daniel's unwavering faith, humility, and courage as powerful examples for Christians today living in a world that often feels chaotic and hostile to truth. The discussion also connects Daniel's story to practical issues like setting spiritual boundaries, engaging with non-Christians, and balancing grace with conviction, encouraging listeners to embody faithfulness and love amid cultural upheaval.Pastor Mike also mentions the new book that accompanies this sermon series: "God Understands: Encouragement From the Book of Daniel" by Pastor Jeremy Mattek. This 22-day study reveals how God sovereignly and compassionately cares for you, even when you can't see his hand at work. The Eagles' defense has performed well since the bye week, as reflected in the statistics: they rank first in the NFL in yards allowed per game. Meanwhile, the offense ranks fifth overall, leading the league in rushing offense but sitting 22nd in passing offense. No-Huddle Show co-hosts Chris Franklin, Bob Brookover, and Cayden Steele discuss whether the Eagles can match their defense by becoming the league's top offense. The trio also breaks down Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams and analyzes which of the next five games will be the toughest test for the Eagles. Learn more about your ad choices. September 13, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 24 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare for their Week 2 Sunday road game against the Broncos. We go over the Steelers' Thursday injury report, QB Justin Fields likely to make his second consecutive start and which players are likely to be on the Sunday pregame inactive list. We also briefly wonder if we might see a Saturday practice squad elevation again as well. Is QB Russell Wilson likely to be sidelined by his calf injury in Week 3 as well? Alex and I address that question early in this show. By the sound of things, rookie T Trot Fautanu is likely to start on Sunday for the Steelers with second-year T Broderiock Jones likely to be benched. Alex and I discuss that topic very thoroughly on Friday morning and what that might mean for both players. On Thursday, we heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin, so, as usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points top come out of those two media sessions. Alex and I welcome Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette back to the show, and he helps us get started with a preview of the Steelers' road game against the Broncos. Tomasson has covered the Broncos for quite some time and that means he has a great pulse on the team. At the end of our talk with Tomasson, he gives us his score prediction for the Sunday game between the Steelers and the Broncos. If not already doing so, make sure to follow Chris on X/Twitter at @christomasson and make sure to read his work online here: https://denvergazette.com/users/profile/chris%20tomasson/ After finishing with Tomasson, Alex and I provide our own preview of the game between the Steelers and the Broncos. We break down what are looking for out of both teams on both sides of the football ahead of the Week 2 game. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for all of the Week 2 games in the NFL. We also give our score predictions for Steelers-Broncos to end that segment. This 106-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. How easily our emotions pull us out of control! It's one thing to feel an emotion, but it's another to let it run rampant in our brain. Add some impulsivity in there, and you've got yourself quite a conflict. Handling our emotions and impulsivity can be a difficult task, so that's why we turn to a stillness practice. This is training the mind to pause rather than react to the conflicts in your mind and in your world. Practicing stillness allows you to harness your emotions and impulsivity so you can use that energy to create positive, purposeful change without regret. Starting Sunday, February 18 at 7 a.m., I'll be leading a live, virtual Christian contemplative practice on the Insight Timer app. You can find a new, live contemplative practice each week by heading to my Insight Timer profile: insighttimer.com/brad4d_wellness

How often do you feel the need to think about what you're thinking about? That's the premise of Pastor Mike's new upcoming sermon series, What Was I Thinking? Pastor Mike and Amber dive into this four-part series that looks at whether what we're thinking matches with what God's thinking. In their always-interesting dialogue, we discover what are Pastor Mike's Monday blues and how he combats them, that Amber tells Satan to shut up all the time, one thought that's still hard for each of them to shake even though they know it's not true, why some of the lies we tell ourselves are so dangerous, and why Amber needs blunt friends.BONUS! Adam Molda is a former college tennis player-turned-fitness entrepreneur from York, Main. He's the founder of Spark Fitness & Tennis Club and has a passion for creating communities and fostering relationships through the sport of tennis. Since COVID, America has seen 5 million new players come to the game and the opportunity to promote the sport is bigger than ever. He talks about transforming a big box facility into something with a more "boutique feel" with the overarching mission of building a heavily focused, tennis-based community. On the operations side he states, "All our tennis is based around being social, being competitive, and just getting better. Our most popular tennis program is our own type of cadio tennis. I'm not a big fan of the 'traditional' cardio tennis, so we've created our own, and it's our most popular program. Starting Sunday morning for example, we have four courts and 32 people coming to do our version--Sparks version of cardio tennis. And then the next hour and a half, we have another 32. We're satisfying over 100 people in 3 hours on the court, and we do that throughout the week. When John Calvin returned to Geneva, after being exiled from the city for three years, he picked up where he left off. Rather than preaching some preacher-centered ‘I'm Back” message, he simply preached the next verse in the Bible. So great was Calvin's commitment to verse-by-verse exposition, that he made no fanfare for his return to the pulpit. Rather, he preached the Word and pointed people to Christ. This week, we do something similar. In March 2020, we were forced to stop gathering for two months. And though we continued to preach the Bible, verse-by-verse through Psalms, Joel, Daniel, and other scriptures, we did put the Gospel of John down for a later time. And by God's grace, that time is now. Starting Sunday, we pick up where we left off—or more exactly—we will overview John 1–2 to remember what those chapters said. In seven portraits from those two chapters, we will see a beautiful picture of Christ. And to prepare for this week's sermon, I encourage you to read those two chapters. As you have time, you should also (re)listen to sermons on those two chapters—if not before Sunday, in the coming weeks. You can find those sermons here, plus other resources on John's Gospel here. As we return to John, let us give thanks to God for his grace. He is the one who numbers our days, and we should pray that he might permit us to study this book together. As we have been reminded too many times in the last two years, our lives are a vapor and tomorrow is a gift. Thus, with hope for God's grace in this day and this Sunday, let us pray for his blessing as we begin this new series. As the Lord allows, I will look forward to seeing you Sunday as we behold Christ in the Gospel of John. For His matchless glory and your eternal joy, Pastor David ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Discussion & Response Questions When was the last time you read John? What comes to mind when you read it? What are you excited about in studying this book? What is the big picture of the gospel? What role does John 1:1-18 play in introducing the book? How does John organize the first two chapters? How does seeing that structure help us understand his message? What do the first two chapters teach us about Jesus? Take time to look at each section: John 1:1–18 — The Word of God made Flesh John 1:19–28 — The Lord is Here John 1:29–35 – The Son of God who is the Lamb John 1:35–42 – The Lamb of God who is the Messiah John 1:43–51 — The King to Whom the Law and Prophets Point John 2:1–12 — The Bridegroom Who Brings a New Covenant John 2:13–23 – The True Temple of God is Here What do we learn about ourselves in John 1–2? How do these chapters prepare us for John 3? What do we learn about the salvation promised to us in John's Gospel? What else stands out from these two chapters? What questions remain?

We may not have Moses' staff or the ten plagues to help us, but we are still like Moses in many ways. Like how we oftentimes don't think God can use us. But oh yes, God can and does certainly use us. Pastor Mike is joined by Amber Albee Swenson this month to give us a sneak peek at October's TV message series that takes a look at Moses' life and ours, "Am I Strong Enough?" Pastor Mike and Amber—Time of Grace blogger, writer, and podcaster—touch upon burning bush moments (or lack thereof in our lives), worry, idolatry, how God uses us, and many more topics! They also talk about October's resources. "Gifted for More" is a book by Dr. Bruce Becker. This engaging study shows you how to discover your own giftedness. Also included is Amber's book, "Chosen for More," which encourages you in the special role you have to play in God's story. Starting Sunday, you can get these resources at timeofgracestore.org with your gift to the ministry. Bonus! What's the story behind Pastor Mike's latest sermon series, "Keep the Faith"? To hear Pastor Mike tell it, it was an audible—and a necessary one in response to COVID-19, despite the challenges of preaching to an empty sanctuary. Practical Ways to Enjoy GOD Moment by Moment." Starting Sunday, September 6, you can get your copies of these two books by visiting https://bit.ly/3b41kfv Pastor Mike and Dr. Becker also talk about the new podcast, "Bible Threads With Dr. Bruce Becker."
