This idea is alive and well at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in Florence Alabama! FAFA (the Academy) began 7 years ago and has grown to be a major proponent for the Arts in the State of Alabama. They began small and have grown tremendously. During his time as a board member of the Alabama Arts Alliance, the Director of FAFA realized that over 70% of the schools in the state offered no arts to their students. Examining the positive effects that the Academy had on attendance, grades and graduation rates, those involved with the Academy realized that there was a chance to have a positive influence in the schools without arts. https://www.florencek12.org/FAFA

Artists that Don McCollister has worked with have collectively sold over 15 million albums, been nominated for 85 major music awards, of which they have won 47, had 34 #1 billboard hits and charted singles. Often dubbed "the artist's" producer because he himself is a multi-instrumentalist who continues to perform live. Claire Pearson (previously performed as Pearson Perry but dropped the Perry moniker after divorce) is an Atlanta based singer-songwriter whose song "Love is a Mountain" (co-written with Heidi Higgins) charted #37 on on the top 100 list of most played singles on independent radio in 2014. She was also one of the top 5 most played pop artists on independent radio in 2014 according to Roots Music Report. She founded Atlanta Intown Songwriters in 2011 to build the Atlanta artist network for aspiring songwriters. In 2016, they quickly built a base of fans as they toured the Southeast and Mid-West promoting their debut album "The Bedroom Sessions". The album continues to receive strong Americana radio support across the country thanks to their #1 single "HeyBabe" (RootsMusicReport) which has been on the folk charts for over 30 consecutive weeks. With Claire (the duo’s chief songwriter) drawing lyrics directly from entries in her diary detailing the first 90 days of the duo’s re-connection after many years and unexpected resulting relationship, the duo decided the best way to capture the intimate nature of the songs was to turn her bedroom into a recording studio. Don set up his gear, and the album was recorded in a series of literal bedro
Join Michael Litten as he interviews Singer-Songwriter Jon Oswald. ABOUT JON OSWALD Born and reared in central Ohio, Jon Oswald has been singing and picking on the wooden planks for over 40 years. "The first song I sang onstage was Don McClean's "American Pie” for a 2nd grade talent show at St. Michael’s school in Worthington, Ohio. I wanted to sing "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" but my momma thought it a tad risque ...she mistakenly thought it was about a prisoner getting out of jail. So, I guess a song about Whiskey and Rye was more appropriate for my audience." The bug bit him then and Jon has been singing and playing ever since. He "chopped wood" with many bands in the Ohio area and soon began touring nationally with such artists as Jerry Reed, Tanya Tucker, The Outfield, Taylor Dayne, Robert Palmer, Meatloaf and many others. "I just knew that I loved singing and playing guitar. There was nothing else for me. Nothing else I was good at. I was so lucky to play with or open for so many great musicians ... and the size of the crowds was a rush." A move to East Nashville in the late 90's sealed his fate as a musician. Playing in Music City for 10 years, Jon was featured at The Bluebird Cafe, The Family Wash and various clubs on the Broadway circuit. "Nashville really turned the heat up a notch...I moved there for a corporate job and fell in love with the whole city. Still feels like home . My kids are there.. so it has my heart. " The exposure to the likes of Willie Nelson, Tommy Emmanuel, John Hiatt and Kris Kristofferson in intimate venues and the gracious singer /songwriter community turned Jon's focus back to his music. " Nashville, I'm sure, made me a better artist. It definitely made me focus on my songwriting. It taught me how important lyric is. It taught me that if the song is good...its gonna find a home. Keep pluggin' away. They say 'If you wait for inspiration, you're a waiter, not a writer.' I've done both and prefer the latter. " Moving to the Atlanta area in
