This week on Christories, we're talking about the APOLLO 13 AND TOM HANKS TELLING "HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!" It's the 1960's and JFK wants up to get a man on the moon Baby! We were fighting Russia to get to the moon BAD. Apollo 13 was the seventh crewed mission in NASA's Apollo space program and was intended to be the third mission to land on the Moon. However, it is best known for its dramatic turn of events. Launched on April 11, 1970, the mission suffered an oxygen tank explosion two days later, forcing the crew to abort their lunar landing and focus on returning safely to Earth. Through ingenuity and teamwork, the astronauts, James Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise, managed to overcome life-threatening challenges and safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on April 17, 1970. The mission is often remembered for the famous line, "Houston, we have a problem," and it demonstrated NASA's ability to handle emergencies in space. This week on Christories, we're talking about the WAR OF CURRENTS!! IT'S NIKOLA TESLA vs THOMAS EDISON! These two scientist are going head to head. But who is going to win?! Edison supported direct current (DC) for sending electricity, while Tesla backed alternating current (AC). Edison believed DC was safer and tried to show that AC was dangerous by shocking animals in public demonstrations. Tesla, working with George Westinghouse, promoted AC because it could send electricity over long distances more efficiently. In the end, AC's ability to transmit power over greater distances won, thanks to Tesla's innovations. Chrissy is discussing not how the enslaved African Americans became free, but really how they found out!!Juneteenth is an annual holiday celebrated on June 19th in the United States. It commemorates the end of slavery and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas, that all slaves were free, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is a day of reflection, celebration of African American heritage, and a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality. In 2021, it became a federal holiday, signifying its significance in American history. This week Chris is telling you the history about THE BATTLE OF BROOKLYN!! We're talking my favorite wooden tooth Homie, who was a short king that led a victorious battle in my favorite island, Remember, we're the 13 Colonies and we got King George the 3rd telling us what's happening, what's good. We go to war with against the French, and we win it! But we're in debt which causes a King Georgie number 3 to raise the taxes. We don't know why we got to be taxed so we start a war! The revolutionary war starts and we fight the British for freedom babes! One of Chrissy's favorite battles was the Battle of Brooklyn! This was the first major battle of the war after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The battle took place in what is now the borough of Brooklyn in NYC, and pitted the Continental Army, led by General George Washington, against the British Army, led by General William Howe. The battle began with a surprise attack by the British on the American positions, which were poorly defended. The British were able to outflank the Americans and force them to retreat to their main fortifications on Brooklyn Heights. Despite heavy losses, the Americans were able to hold their position and repel several British assaults. The American defense collapsed, and the Continental Army was forced to retreat across the East River .. thank god there was some FOG!! Shout out George W for being a badass leader! We may have lost the greatest land in the whole world for a brief time to the British and lost the battle, but we didn't lose men! THE BOYS ENDED UP WINNING THE WAR, so eff you 1700s Britain

This continued on to Shakespeare and soon there were vaudeville shows where men were dressing as women as a form of entertainment. Starting in the mid 1800s, America is growing but the Declaration of Independence still holds true to "All Men are created equal". Women came together for the first time in New York to discuss their rights and that was remembered as the Seneca Falls Convention. Enter the Women's Suffrage movement. Women's suffrage is the right of women to vote in elections. We have women like, Susan B Anthony, Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul and Carrie Chapman Catt fighting for women's rights. SHOUT OUT National Woman Suffrage Association! They came together to fight for the 19th Amendment and thanks to the industrial revolution, prohibition and many protests, they got the right to vote in 1920! This week Chris is talking about an overlooked atrocity during the late 1930's in China — the Nanjing Massacre. The Japanese had been fighting with the Chinese for years and during the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Japanese had every intention of taking over more land and claiming it as their own. After the Battle of Shanghai, the Japan thought that capturing the capital city of Nanjing, would make China surrender and they would win. China's Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-Shek, was afraid to lose more of his men and told only them to evacuate the city of Nanking, leaving the citizens unable to defend themselves properly. A safety zone was created by a International committee and one of them was a Nazi.. yep that's right a Nazi ! It was an unfortunate 6 week massacre Women were brutally raped and killed, children were thrown in the air for bayonet practice, men were buried alive. It was a very upsetting time.General Iwane Matsui who ordered this invasion was executed for their crimes and since then, Japan has tried to forget this horrible time. This weekend we are celebrating one of the best civil rights activists, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. From HOT-Lanta to Alabama, MLK helped with legislative equality in America during the 1960s. Before he came along, there was Jim Crow Laws, KKK, and just racism in general. MLK fought for equality, but he did it PEACEFULLY, shout out Gandhi !!
