After spending the last several months (YEARS actually) studying habits and the different ways that they intertwine with our self image and identity, I'm excited to dedicate an episode to just a sampling of these ideas. This episode is an invitation to step into the power of your unique voice and live with joy, shedding the constraints of a rigid self-narrative.James Clear's "Atomic Habits" takes center stage in our discussion, offering a look at how small changes can lead to monumental shifts in our self-perception and identity. We navigate the landscape of neuroplasticity, taking a look at how altering our daily routines can rewire our brains and reinforce our self belief. We end the episode by illuminating the subtle distinction between being humble and modest. Instead of diminishing our light under the guise of modesty, we champion humility as a genuine expression of self that empowers both ourselves and those around us. Join me for an empowering conversation that encourages you to live unapologetically, honor your successes, and to inspire a collective ascent to loosening those laces and living out whatever largeness lies within you.P.S. Please help me out and tell your friends this podcast is back! Apple Podcasts has paused a huge amount of listeners without them knowing. Between that and my (highly diminished) reach on social media, barely any of my subscribers even know that the podcast has returned. Thank you for sharing in any way you can! Embarking on a hiatus can be a transformative experience, one that I've recently undertaken, guided by the insightful reflections of Michaela Cole on the benefits of stepping away from the noise and disappearing. In the quietness away from the constant buzz of social media, I found a liberty in solitude and a renewed connection with the voice within. This episode is a candid sharing of that journey, an ode to the personal compass that guides us through the noise, and a toast to the joys of returning with a heart unburdened by the chase for perfection. Join me as we celebrate authenticity and creativity, and continue our collective quest for a life brimming with fulfillment.I'm thrilled to reconnect with our dedicated listeners and extend a heartfelt thank you for your unwavering support! And if you're looking for an extra spark of inspiration, don't miss out on Rachel Larson Weaver's episode—it's the perfect springboard into our new season. Your engagement and five-star reviews mean the world to us, as we forge ahead with curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, ever eager for the next discovery on our podcasting adventure.NOTE**** A recent iPhone update may have thrown a wrench in the works, disrupting our usual channels of connection, but it's nothing we can't overcome together. Hello to all of my new listeners and welcome back to so many of you! Today I want to share something that I recorded several years ago called Wear Sunscreen. This spoken word song was a guiding force for me in my twenties and is something that I believe everyone can learn a little something from.If you haven't heard it yet, you're welcome...and if you have, listen to it again. Thanks so much for all of the shares and messages and people out there listening. Isn't more love always the answer? Has the universe been sending me secret messages by way of Rick Rubin? In the world of buzzwords, I think we've all heard the term “generational trauma”? But what about generational JOY? I mean, how much more interesting is that idea?? Leaving a legacy of joy! Is it possible? I don't even know…but I definitely want to try.I'll never forget the day that I read and wrote down those two words by Laura Aziz. At that time, I was knee-deep in sifting through everything that was less than joyous in my life.In that moment, Laura's words gave me hope. And not just hope, but also a new target for me to aim for.Laura and her words have often left me standing in awe as I try to figure out how she does it? How she always seems to be able to sum things up in a way that completely shifts my perspective.Today, we are revisiting Laura's episode from the past: "You're Gonna Die". This one with Laura Aziz was one that stayed with me in many ways. Laura's ideas and way of speaking truly hit me (every time) and I find myself thinking back to certain quotes of hers or things that she's written quite often. I think I need to bring her back to chat again, but before I do, I wanted anyone who didn't hear this to get the chance…and if you already did, it's probably worth another listen.Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com
What would happen if we truly all believed that people out there really do want us to succeed? What if we believed that people want to learn from us and work with us and hear what we have to say with a true sense of childlike curiosity (and a completely open heart)? Would we share more? Would we censor ourselves less? One of my favorite things about living curiously is having the belief that we can all write a new story whenever we decide to. It's not too late and you're never too old to start again and begin anew.We also hear from Layne with an update on last week's performance! She tells us her future plans with her band and new projects they're working on.Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com
We're back with a new episode! This time, we have a very special guest...my baby girl, Layne Azzolini. Layne has been spending her time this year writing songs and today she's decided to share one with all of us. We talk about what it feels like when someone makes fun of something that we're proud of or puts us down. We also discuss the fact that as we get older, the voices of doubt in the back of our minds seem to get a little louder.Although things can sometimes knock us down, we have to remember not to allow anyone to break our spirit. Layne has helped me through the years to connect with the childlike wonder and freedom from my younger years. Her wisdom is a reminder for all. Rest if you must, but don't you quit.****Here's the GoFundMe page for Lisha and her girls:https://www.gofundme.com/f/lisha-miya-and-matilda-hope-for-a-futureFollow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com

One of my FAVORITE parts of each interview is when I ask my guest about the one book that they feel that everyone should read and why. There are no right or wrong answers...it's all about learning new and interesting ideas and opening our scope of what we feed our minds. This particular episode is one that you'll probably want to have a pen and paper handy, in order to take a few notes. I bet you'll learn about at least one book that you never knew of before. Even if you happen to be the greatest bibliophile alive and don't learn any new titles, I guarantee you that you'll at least be persuaded into reading something that you hadn't previously considered.Take a listen and let us know what you think!
I'm baaaaaaaack!! It's been a while and boy, have I missed you all. I've been busy learning how to "sort my mail" and get this life of mine back on track. Today we will catch up with things that have happened since I dropped that bomb of a last episode back in March.Things burning through my mind right now...friendship, being and introvert, paradigm shifts, the beauty of living in the gray area, and basically just finding a way to exist (and flourish) in this deeply divided world we are living in.I'm taking you on a quick review of the tectonic shift that has been my life so far in 2022 and hopefully answering some questions that so many of you have had for me. Spoiler alert: I'm all good now...finally! No Mud, No Lotus!
“If you are a woman who dares to show up in the world in any way—big or small—the backlash will be swift and fierce and painful. It will come from men and women and people beyond and in between. When a man puts out his work, the world asks: is his work worthy? When a woman puts out her work, the world asks: Is she worthy of putting out her work? So…rarely will her criticism be about her work at all. It will be about HER." -Glennon DoyleTruth be told, this episode is LOADED for me. This is something I've been trying to find the words for quite a while... and since I believe in speaking from the scar instead of the wound, I will allow Glennon to do all of the talking from here on out."If you are a woman considering showing up and using her voice in the world, you have got to learn how to sort your mail."Here's the link for: Click Away Chicago 2022!(LeAnna will be teaching 3 classes total throughout the conference. What does living a life of curiosity mean to you? Out of all of the things that we discuss on this podcast, that last question is my personal favorite. No one person sees it the same way and every interpretation leads me closer to understanding what I was doing when I decided to create this show, with this name, Curating the Curious. We've pulled this compilation together from each interview in the past year in order to inspire and also discuss what possibilities could be out there for all of us.Hearing all of these words from each of our past guests has been music to our ears here. Hopefully it will be the same for you!
“While the canvas of your life is painted with daily experiences, behaviors, reactions, and emotions…YOU are the one holding the brush.” -OprahThis episode is all about sitting down with that paintbrush and designing your life on that canvas. Did you know that the average person lasts 36 days with their New Year's Resolutions and goals? There are many reasons why this occurs so often, but I believe that there are ways to transform this. Piece by piece. It's truly all about finding clarity and focusing in on all of the details. I've created a free class on goal setting for you and I'm really excited to pass it along and see what you make with it. After several weeks of revising and expanding the class, I'm planning to be able to have it finished for you sometime in the second week of January. While we wait on that, I have an assignment here in this episode. "If you can accept that your life will one day end, then you're more likely to fill it with the things that spark enjoyment. The things that make you happy." -Rebecca Annie Rose WilliamsThe pursuit of simple pleasures is something that I *try* to embrace in some way every day. Inspired by Rebecca, I believe it's the actual key to L-I-V-I-N-G. If you've never heard of this beautiful soul, this episode will be my gift to you. Known as "Wovenlight Journal" on social media, Rebecca was a creative of many colors. The ultimate in staying curious in every way. She seemed to soak up every moment of life in order to get her hands dirty, make things, seek joy, and swim in the sea. To love her friends and family and spread her magic wherever she went. Rebecca's body may have left this world, but her unforgettable existence is made up of fragments of beauty that she left behind for us to admire and learn from for many years to come. If nothing else, I hope this will spark a few thoughts for you to seek out and enjoy the pursuit of simple pleasures in your own life.Find Rebecca Here:Instagram: @wovenlight_journalWatch full video: WovenlightvideoHere's the link for: Click Away Chicago 2022!(LeAnna will be teaching 3 classes total throughout the conference. Today we're going to talk about 4 steps you can take in your life (today) in order to simplify and enhance your creative life and career. Often, it's the simplest of ideas that are the most overlooked. However, they're also usually the most powerful in the way of transformation and change.Come with me as we review this gem of an idea that was introduced over 20 years ago...and still plays an integral part in the way that I attempt to avoid negativity, self doubt, and creative paralyzation. These agreements are a gift and I'm excited to dissect them with you.Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com
We talk about all of the roadblocks to creating all the time: resistance, your inner critic, fear of the unknown, imposter syndrome…the list goes on and on. But in this episode I want to simplify it all for you into one very obvious but often overlooked idea. It's been talked about in many ways, but I don't think that people quite understand how reluctant they are to accepting this one thing as a part of life and just meeting it head on. Today's episode is about about that one BIG thing that's standing in your way of going for it and staying the course. Once you hear it, the idea might sound so obvious and simple that you dismiss me at first...but I urge you to really look into it. Oof...last month was a doozy. If anything, it's provided me with a bit of wisdom, knowledge, and a great topic for today's episode. I'm bringing my story to you today and laying it all out on the table.Mental health is something that I believe we need to normalize talking about in every way. As women, we can often be ruled by our hormones and discount it as PMS or something else that's (hopefully) temporary. What happens when the game changes and we lose touch with everything that we thought we knew about ourselves? If you or someone you know seems to be struggling with a "different" level of stress, today's episode might be for you. There's nothing prescriptive here. It's an open discussion in order to bring awareness and possibly find some answers together.Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com

No mincing words here. F*CK being modest. Shrinking yourself so that others will be more comfortable in your presence is for the birds. Now humility...that's a totally different story. Being humble while also recognizing the power and unique abilities that you possess can be a wonderful thing.Today we will dissect the difference between humility and modesty, and how it all intersects with two of the most important words I've learned along my voyage through the arts: "You're Welcome". Perspective is everything and it's time to exist fully, without any apologies.Book Links for this episode and Beyond:The Artist's Way By Julia CameronThe Artist's Way Book & Journal Set (I own and love this!)The 5 Minute Gratitude JournalLeAnna's 2020 Course on Cultivating Creativity Through Self Portraiture:Phlock+Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyClubhouse: @leanna_azzoliniWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com
Feeling the overwhelm of summer madness mixed with the chaos of post-pandemic life ramping back up again? How can we manage it all and keep our heads above water? The key is all about taking the time to cut things into bite-sized chunks. "Micro-productivity" or "micro moves" (a term that I just made up for this episode) can be a true life-saver. Instead of allowing this new way of living to swallow us up, let's take a few small and simple steps together and beat the overwhelm.Book Links for this episode and Beyond:The Artist's Way By Julia CameronThe Artist's Way Book & Journal Set (I own and love this!)The 5 Minute Gratitude JournalLeAnna's 2020 Course on Cultivating Creativity Through Self Portraiture:Phlock+Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyClubhouse: @leanna_azzoliniWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com

I'm excited to introduce one of the coolest, funniest, and most consistent artists I know...Ashley Marston. I can't think of too many people out there who keep it more real, while also maintaining a level of fun and inspiration at the same time.Ashley is known for her work in capturing birth and underwater, as well family films. Her 365 day project called A Daily Occurrence has been running consistently for over 7 years now and she's taught students from all over the world how to stay inspired. To know her is to love her and I'm excited to release this episode. She's just a refreshing spirit to be around and her conversations are always filled with nuggets of wisdom.Book Links for this episode and Beyond:The Five Love Languages by Gary ChapmanThe Five Love Languages of Children by Gary ChapmanThe Artist's Way By Julia CameronThe Artist's Way Book & Journal Set (I own and love this!)The 5 Minute Gratitude JournalAshley's Links:WebsiteAshley's PresetsA Daily Occurrence BreakoutInstagram

This episode covers so many topics that have been on my heart for so long. We discuss the meaning of self portraiture and the role it has played in both of our lives. Cindy also shines the light on the process of unraveling and becoming that happens through the passing of time. For some, aging can be a scary process, but if we change the lens through which we view it, becoming older and wiser is such a beautiful unfolding.Book Links for this episode and Beyond:Half The SkyThe Artist's Way By Julia CameronThe Artist's Way Book & Journal Set (I own and love this!)The 5 Minute Gratitude JournalHere's the link for Chandra Sandoval and Cindy Knight's upcoming traveling retreat in Morocco:Finding WonderCindy's Links:InstagramWebsite***************************************************************************************Tickets for:Phlock Live 2021 (I will be speaking on Cultivating Creativity with Tekie Quay and Suzie Jay Goldsmith!)LeAnna's 2020 Course on Cultivating Creativity Through Self Portraiture:Phlock+Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyClubhouse: @leanna_azzoliniWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com

Boom, bang, crash and burn...that's where I've been. I'm happy to say that things are finally looking up!For anyone who listened to my "Mindset-Which Wolf Do You Feed?" episode and felt overwhelmed by my intensity...apparently so did I! Shortly after that, I came face to face with a brick wall that wouldn't allow me to move any further, until I faced the music. Burnout is REAL. If you don't listen to the signs that your body sends you, things can turn pretty ugly.I'm calling this episode Part 1 because I'm still slowly uncovering all of the pieces that I need to in order to completely recover. I've missed being here and can't wait to find a way for it to fit into the structure of my life. For now, these are the few kernels of truth I have to offer.Tickets for:Phlock Live 2021 (I will be speaking on Cultivating Creativity with Tekie Quay and Suzie Jay Goldsmith!)LeAnna's 2020 Course on Cultivating Creativity Through Self Portraiture:Phlock+Follow LeAnna and Curating the Curious:Instagram: @curating.the.curious @leanna_azzolini_photographyClubhouse: @leanna_azzoliniWebsite:leannaazzoliniphoto.com

When it comes down to it, mindset is EVERYTHING. We've all heard the parable about the two wolves...which one do you feed? For some lucky people, positive thinking comes more naturally. For others (including myself), it can be a daily requirement to make sure you stay on the right track mentally. Feeding the right wolf can take some work. After we've done that mindset work, we've also got to find ways to share the music within us and keep our creative spirit alive. Khalil Gibran once said, "When you are born, your work is placed in your heart." There is music in you. We've all been given a different song to play, but whatever your heart is calling you to do...don't let that chance slip by. Life is too darn short.(If you haven't listened to Episode #15 called "You're Gonna Die...So Listen To This" with Laura Aziz, I highly recommend that you do that. It was life-changing for me.This episode was built from the inspiration that Laura gave me on that day that we recorded that special episode.
