Women today really can have it all. But can they have it all at the same time? And what happens when they try? In this lively episode, Miriam and Sarah talk to Founder of One of Many, Dr. Joanna Martin. If you've ever felt like Superwoman, juggling a million things like crazy, this episode is for you. Dr Martin shares her views on pressures women face in modern society, particularly the dangers of 'Superwoman', including burnout and decreased happiness. She provides an alternative, more sustainable approach to power and leadership for women. Curious? This one is for all of you who already know that women can lead in a different, more empathetic and collaborative way. There's also discussion of Miriam and Sarah's passion project; another paradigm shift; towards gendered medicine. We hope you love this chat as much as we do! We are learning lots about the women's health gap and the impact of the decline in oestrogen on health. But there is SO MUCH MORE being discovered about the impact of biological gender on health. Men's life expectancy is on average 5 1/2 years less than women's. Why is that? Could it be the fact that some men lose their Y chromosome as they age?And what impact does the decline on testosterone later in life have on women's health? This International Women's Day, Miriam and Sarah are back with a brand new, full-length podcast—the first one in ages! This time, they sat down with Consultant Gynaecologist and all-around women's health champion, Dr Karen Morton, to chat about the classic "bikini medicine" topics (you know, the stuff no one ever teaches us properly). They got the chance to ask all the so-called stupid questions—like what even is a normal period?!—plus deep dives into endometriosis, adenomyosis, hormones, HRT, transdermal absorption, testosterone for women, prolapse prevention, and more!Oh, and prepare for a collective "aww" moment—Dr. Morton casually mentioned she had delivered two babies that day. Beyond the biology, she also shared how her women's health practice is breaking down barriers to ensure better care for all. Seriously inspiring! This year's International Women's Day theme is "Accelerate Action", because—get this—the World Economic Forum predicts it will take 133 years to achieve gender parity. We really cannot wait that long in health! That's why it's so exciting to learn from trailblazers like Dr. Morton, who've been shaking things up for years. And if you listen to the end you will hear some utterly brilliant advice about women's health. So, if talking about women's bits makes you blush, just pop in your earphones and pretend you're listening to some totally serious business news.
Have you been thinking about nominating yourself or someone you know for the Women in Pharma Role Model Awards? The deadline for entries is FAST-approaching - Friday 31 Jan – so the time to act is NOW!
It's the day after their INSPIRE! 4U event. Miriam and Sarah reflect on what had an impact and thank their supporters.
In the final roundup of 2024, Sarah surprises Miriam, and they reflect on highlights from the year, personally, professionally and for Women in Pharma. It can be easy to get caught up in a frantic rush to the Christmas finishing line but traditionally this darkest period of the year involved closing things down and going inwards. One such German-speaking tradition is Sperrnächte or Dunkelnächte, a period of 13 nights in the run up to 21 December, the Winter solstice (and Miriam's birthday!). Each night invites a ritual of introspection and self-reflection, one night for each month of the year with a different theme for each month – from structure and discipline to freedom and innovation, from spirituality to courage and rebirths and so on. Through this process you organise the year just gone and then from 21st December to 1st January you let go of anything you need to whilst pondering what you want to manifest for the year ahead. If you like the sound of this ritual, this is a nice framework to follow - https://lnkd.in/g9QKXd24Thanks Anne-Frédérique Van Kemmel for the recommendation.

As human's we are hard wired for connection. This week Miriam & Sarah talk about their weeks of connectivity, conscious network design and some juicy opportunities for YOU to come and connect with your Women in Pharma network.
Feeling stressed out by lastminititus? Experiencing energy black holes in your daily work? At risk of sinking into the Bermuda triangle between commercial, agency and procurement as you just try to get your key projects done with people you trust? In today's round-up of the week, Sarah and Miriam delve into the concept of 'energy black holes' within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors. They discuss how these black holes manifest as frustrating cycles of restructuring, decision-making challenges, and the complexities of agency-client relationships. The dialogue emphasises the importance of human connection and collaboration in overcoming these obstacles, advocating for a balance between processes and personal relationships to foster creativity and effective problem-solving to ultimately help all our patients. Have a great weekend recharging the batteries everyone!
On this cold, sunny October Friday, the Loose Women in Pharma discuss the challenges faced in the life sciences sector. They emphasise the importance of maintaining connections, having fun, and prioritising self-care amidst the stress of uncertainty and job hunting. The discussion also touches on the power of asking for help and keeping a sense of optimism in overcoming adversity. Let's hold each other close people! Have a great weekend.
In their latest update Sarah and Miriam reflect on the power of waves as they squeeze themselves into neoprene suits down in Cornwall ready for a bit of body-boarding. There has been a swell of activity over the last few weeks from both the Women in Pharma and others championing the need to close the women's health gap and improve the health of everyone by adopting a gendered lens in health and medicine. Miriam Kenrick and Sarah Sowerby have shared #beyondbikinimedicine with numerous groups including the PM Society's DE&I group, the Deep End NHS group, and Paul Simms' Impatient Health Pharmageddon event. It never fails to surprise us how all of this seems so new to people and yet so obvious when we point it out – hidden in plain sight. Sarah Sowerby and Elena Mills from The Salve hosted our latest webinar highlighting the need to tune into our hormonal waves to understand why asthma is worse for women with Dr Sam Walker from Asthma and Lung UK – you can watch the recording here - https://youtu.be/RK04XA1bdMU Also making waves recently was NHS health economist Bridget Gorman with her report on women's health services in England. She and her team concluded that for every £1 invested in obs and gynae there would be a ROI of £11 for every female. When you consider that the UK has the largest women's health gap of all the G20 countries and the 12th largest globally the value that this would unlock is immense. Loving too the fantastic leadership of AT Kearney's Paula Bellostas Muguerza with their [w] Health community who all met last week in London. Men and women from across the healthcare spectrum shared perspectives and listened to the inspiring Dame Lesley Regan who is certainly not afraid to make waves as she champions the Women's Health Strategy for England and the fantastic womens' health hub model. Great to feel the momentum building and for so much interest and support from so many. Let's make waves together!
Miriam and Sarah sit down with Nicky Stunt from RBW consulting to discuss what those working in healthcare agencies say they want from their leaders. If you're an agency leader or future leader (of any gender) wondering what's expected from you in terms of accountability, transparency, trust and communication in a hybrid world, take a listen. This podcast will challenge you to think about your self awareness, how you set standards and lead by example. This month's LWIP hears us interview our first man on the podcast. This month Sarah and Miriam talk with Dan Dalton, former professional cricketer, former MEP and wait for it… grandson of an amazing trailblazer in women's health, Dr Katharina Dalton. Kittie as she was affectionately known was a woman on a mission. She was one of the first tranche of female doctors who were admitted to medical school when they opened things up after the Second World War qualifying on the day the NHS came into existence in 1948. Great friends with Miriam's grandmother, Kittie was the first to identify and coin the phrases Post Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Post Natal Depression (PMD) publishing on these topics back in the 1950s with quite some pushback from the masculine medical establishment. She successfully treated many women for conditions that the masculine model of health did not understand, from migraines to mood disorders, tuning into the importance of glucose management and even getting women off murder charges because of where they were in their hormonal cycle. AMAZING! She was a force to be reckoned with whose work was somewhat sidelined by the establishment and which we now want to bring into the light by hearing her story and celebrating her as our first post-humous Ultimate Women's Health Role Model Award winner. A fascinating story and a great foundation setter for the work we need to do with our beyond bikini medicine campaign. Enjoy listening and share your feedback in the comments.

Woo-hoo! It's the day after the very first Women in Pharma Role Model awards and Miriam and Sarah are still buzzing! The pom-poms are out!!!They reflect on the last 24 hours, including their attendance at the @PMSociety Awards and the conversations with male allies who are asking 'what can we do to help women rise in our organisations?' One thing male allies can do is read 'How Women Rise by @Sally Helgesen and @Marshall Goldsmith. This book is the next step from ‘What Got You Here Won't get you There', which is a great book.
