In this episode of the Cricket Matters podcast, hosts Josh Kennedy and James Breese dive deep into the importance of health assessments for cricketers. They emphasize that health is the foundation of athletic performance, regardless of age or skill level. You'll Learn:Why a cricketer's health is crucial for achieving peak performance and standing out in the sport, particularly in today's demanding game environment. The four primary areas covered in health assessments—body, lifestyle, mortality, and breathing—and how each contributes to overall athletic ability and longevity. The significance of proper breathing, including specific techniques that can enhance oxygenation, recovery, and decision-making in cricket. How heart health, indicated by resting heart rates and active heart rates, plays a vital role in assessing an athlete's fitness and mortality risk.Key Takeaways:Without good health, cricketers, regardless of age, will struggle to reach their full potential. Proper breathing techniques can significantly improve oxygen uptake, recovery, and mental clarity, making them a critical focus area in health assessments.Regular monitoring of resting and active heart rates can provide valuable insights into a cricketer's fitness level and potential health risks, guiding necessary interventions.Elements like sleep and daily movement are crucial indicators of an athlete's overall lifestyle. Poor habits in these areas can negatively impact both health and performance.Maintaining a healthy body composition, including waist-to-height ratio and body fat percentage, is essential for reducing the risk of chronic diseases and ensuring long-term athletic success.Quotes:"The healthier, fitter, stronger, more athletic athlete will always be picked ahead of the unathletic, unhealthy one time and time again.""Breathing better and more efficiently helps you recover faster, function better, and make better decisions, which cricket is all about.""If your waist is over half your height, it shows you are at high risk of metabolic disease—no matter what we do with your technical side of things."Read more on our blog here!Find James on: Instagram: @jamesbreese Twitter: @_jamesbreese To learn more about Cricket Matters and download your FREE copy of The High-Performance Handbook, please visit www.cricketmatters.com

With time and repetition, Chiropractic gently realigns these bones in the spine, takes the pressure off the nerves, and lets your body heal and you feel better! Embarking on a quest for holistic health can lead us down fascinating paths, ones I've personally tread with a touch of trepidation and a heap of curiosity. My recent foray into the world of health diagnostics brought me face-to-face with the DEXA scan, a tool capable of peeling back the layers to reveal our body's deepest secrets. Within this episode, I, Dr. Damaris Maria Grossman, invite you to join me on a journey of discovery as I recount my experience with this advanced imaging technique and the revelations it brought about my body composition, bone density, and potential fracture risks. It's an honest look at what it means to confront our health head-on, and the insights gained might just steer you toward a path of informed wellness and disease prevention. The conversation doesn't stop at the DEXA scan; we also navigate the intricacies of VO2 max testing, a metric of endurance that probes the limits of our aerobic capabilities. Despite my own history with asthma and previous injuries, I share the surprising results and what they mean for someone not exactly in the elite athlete bracket. This episode is not just about the numbers; it's about understanding our bodies, working with our unique health narratives, and striving for improvement. Going Beyond the Food: Intuitive Eating, Emotional Eating, Body Neutrality, Diet Mindset and Anti-Diet Podcast

Health Beyond Diet and Weight Loss For many of us in this community, our first encounter with dieting wasn't a concern with health. Similarly, for me and all the women I work with inside of my programs, their first diet was strictly focused on being in a smaller body. That is to say, we dieted for aesthetic reasons, not health. As women, we do not want to diet. Instead, we want to be in a thinner body. Our modern society believes that being thinner is better, smarter, and healthier. In other words, all of us have been taught at a very young age that health = thinness but is it true or is it just an assumption? What if health wasn't the outcome of the weight on the scale? Would you still want to diet? Does “Obesity” Cause One to Be Unhealthy? As of today in October 2019, there isn't one study or research evidence that directly points to being overweight (BMI-based status) as a causative factor in diseases. That said, many studies will link/correlate obesity to health risks. In other words, weight status is never the sole factor in any health condition. In this groundbreaking research on BMI and metabolic health, one-third to three-quarters of people classified as obese were metabolically healthy. Four health factors were measured and evaluated to achieve health status. These include blood pressure, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and plasma glucose. Moreover, when BMI categorized an individual as obese, this study showed that obesity did not affect the risks of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and mortality. However, it did increase diabetes risk although cumulative incidence remained low in healthy people. In fact, the problem with considering weight as the main factor to your health is our inability to lose weight and sustain the weight loss. Hence, 95-98% of dieters regain all of their weight loss within 1-5 years.  Dr. Traci Mann, a UCLA associate professor of psychology and lead author of this study said, “We found that the majority of people regained all the weight, plus more. Sustained weight loss was found only in a small minority of participants, while complete weight regain was found in the majority. Diets do not lead to sustained weight loss or health benefits for the majority of people.”. Is Health Beyond Dieting Possible? The short answer is yes. Based on research, it would appear that health isn't attributed to the weight on the scale, therefore, we can say that health is possible without seeking weight loss. A 2016 study by researchers at UCLA published in the International Journal of Obesity looked at 40,420 adults in the most recent U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. It assessed their health as measured by six accepted metrics (not including BMI). The metrics include blood pressure, triglyceride, cholesterol, glucose, insulin resistance, and C-reactive protein. It found that 47 percent of people were classified as overweight by BMI. Twenty-nine percent of those who qualified as obese were healthy as measured by at least five of those other metrics. Meanwhile, 31 percent of normal-weight people were unhealthy by two or more of the same measures. So, if weight isn't what ensures our long-term health, then what is? Studies that have actually controlled for fitness have found that it is more predictive for mortality than weight. This study defined ‘fit' as 3-4 hrs/week of walking. In this episode, we will cover how we can as women seek health beyond dieting and weight loss. Likewise, we will explore everything we can do today that can and will impact our health long term. What you'll learn listening to this episode: What is health? Does “obesity” cause one to be unhealthy? Is health beyond diet and weight loss possible? What is Health at Every Size? What is a weight-neutral approach to health? Body dissatisfaction & shame and health behaviors Shifting from weight management to health behavior What happens if we take the Going Beyond The Food Method™️ approach to health? Would you like to know why organizations need to use assessments? Lately, Ray and Amy have been talking about the new products that the Genysys Group is releasing and they recently did an episode about the Organizational Health Assessment. There is still one more assessment that they are preparing to launch, called The Change Readiness Assessment. Listen in to find out more about it. In today's episode, Ray and Amy will explain what the Change Readiness Assessment is. They will also talk about why organizations need assessments and why they are such useful tools when it comes to organizational health and organizational transformation. Tune in now, for more. Show Highlights: Ray explains why we need assessments and why these tools are helpful when it comes to organizational transformation. An assessment shows how strong the foundation is for change within an organization. A lot of good ideas fail because we are not ready for them and we don't know how to determine if we are ready, or what we need to do in order to become ready. A good assessment is a catalyst for a conversation about reality. An assessment gives us a basis for where we are before any kind of change takes place. A post-assessment shows us where we are as a result of a change. What the Change Readiness Assessment that the Genysys Group has developed measures, and what sort of feedback could be expected from using it.  Ray talks about the eight dimensions of the Change Readiness Assessment. The first dimension is the dimension of catalytic leadership. Ray gives a recap of what catalytic leadership is. Without good catalytic leadership, good ideas may never get off the ground. What the dimension of Opportunity For Change deals with.  The fourth area deals with transformational leadership, the kind of leadership that is able to sustain change. The fifth area is the area of lead energy. The sixth area is planning. Choosing our focus and having clear, outcome-related roles. The seventh area deals with partnering, or who we know that we need to partner with.  The eighth area deals with generative leadership. It looks at keeping the mission in play. Generative leadership is about the long term. The difference between a river organization and a puddle organization. Generative leadership is essential for sustained change. The value of the Change Readiness Assessment. The relationship between the Organizational Health Assessment and the Change Readiness Assessment, and the kinds of needs that each one fulfills. Ray has found that one of the key elements for being able to have meaningful transformational change is tied to the extent to which the organization is healthy, to begin with. The Organizational Health Assessment uncovered significant organizational dysfunction. Organizational health is foundational to organizational transformation. To find more information about the Change Readiness Assessment, go to www.thegenysysgroup.com.  Assessments help us deal with the reality and they help us to challenge some of the assumptions that we are acting upon before clarifying the reality. In his new book Dr. Spurgeon discusses his concern that "none of the sampling methods, or data interpretation methods, we use in the mold industry have ever been validated". The book goes into detail on the importance of sampling to answer specific questions and gives you examples of what questions to ask. Dr. Spurgeon states that "the selection of the sampling method and data interpretation method affects the ability of the IEP to correctly interpret the sample results and assess condition. One objective of this manual is to improve the investigator's ability to compare the utility of sampling and data-interpretation methods based on objective criteria." Dr. Spurgeon has a multidisciplinary doctorate degree in Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Health from the University of Pittsburgh; and was a Certified Industrial Hygienist from 1993 - 2013. His career has included working as a research chemist on the NBS Lead-Paint Poisoning Program, directing the FAA's Combustion Toxicology Laboratory, performing Health Assessments for CDC/ATSDR, implementing US EPA's Laboratory Exposure Assessment Project, and working as a consultant specializing in microbial indoor air quality for US PHS. He has performed over 4,000 residential and commercial investigations involving water intrusions and microbial contaminants; has taught courses on mold investigations, sampling, and data interpretation methods; and has served as an expert witness in numerous mold cases.
