Women today really can have it all. But can they have it all at the same time? And what happens when they try? In this lively episode, Miriam and Sarah talk to Founder of One of Many, Dr. Joanna Martin. If you've ever felt like Superwoman, juggling a million things like crazy, this episode is for you. Dr Martin shares her views on pressures women face in modern society, particularly the dangers of 'Superwoman', including burnout and decreased happiness. She provides an alternative, more sustainable approach to power and leadership for women. Curious? This one is for all of you who already know that women can lead in a different, more empathetic and collaborative way. There's also discussion of Miriam and Sarah's passion project; another paradigm shift; towards gendered medicine. We hope you love this chat as much as we do! In our forties, many of us hit a wall. It can be a time when our responsibilities are at an all time high, just when our bodies are telling us - sometimes very loudly - that it's time to change the way we've been living and working so far. Our guest today, renowned visionary, coach and catalyst Dr Joanna Martin helps us understand how to navigate this phase of life which is often called perimenopause, and which Red School founders Alexandra and Sjanie call the Quickening, through the lens of the archetype of ‘superwoman'.As the founder of One of many, Jo's organisation has supported over 70,000 grassroots women leaders to have a greater impact without burnout. She recently published her book, Superwoman - Escaping The Myth and in our conversation today we explore how the superwoman archetype shows up in our lives, as well as how to step out of superwoman mode, embrace community and get your needs met, even with all the responsibilities you hold. This conversation is for you if you're in your forties and looking for ways to show up without burning out. We speak a lot about parenting, so it's especially for you if this is your path. However, it's also for you in any phase of your life, if you recognise that you have a tendency to try to push through and do too much, and you want to work cyclically to honour your needs. We explore:The origins of the superwoman myth, and why it drives some of us to embody anti-superwoman, which means we don't activate our impact potential. Why we can only burn out if we're not in our body and Jo's practical approach to get your needs met - the 'Needs Creed'. Jo's personal Quickening story of meeting her increased need for sleep and alone time, and navigating big emotions as she journeys into perimenopause. ---Join our free online course - Love Your Cycle: Discover the power of menstrual cycle awareness to revolutionise your life here: www.redschool.net/love---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. Shaa talks to visionary, coach, catalyst, entrepreneur and activist, Joanna Martin, about her incredible achievements in business and the lessons learned along the way, as well as the ways in which you can grow your business without feeling the heavy weight of overwhelm, and how to do so sustainably! KEY TAKEAWAYS Having more women in positions of leadership, having parity of representation in every business space, is the key to unlocking social progression in the world. In the past two years, women's representation has shrunk. The focus has been upon building back business, instead of providing representation, when in reality, the focus should be on building back business with women at the forefront. Juggling successfully begins with having less balls in the air. Be as rigorous as possible about setting priorities, with personal health and needs up front. Look for what's essential, and structure accordingly. Removing yourself from the home so as to work can be beneficial, as everything in the home communicates the jobs that must be done - the ones left unfinished. Removing ourselves, temporarily, can provide us with the focus we need to get business tasks completed. BEST MOMENTS 'We can't pretend like we could two years ago, that it's going to be alright, because in a lot of places it isn't' 'We need to increase the impact of women in the world without burning out' 'The world needs women to step up more' 'You can have it all. You just can't have it all at the same time' VALUABLE RESOURCES Building A Bigger Table Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/building-a-bigger-table   Joanna Martin - https://joannamartin.com MEET YOUR HOST Hi, I'm Shaa. Dr Joanna Martin is a renowned visionary, coach, speaker and entrepreneur whose message and work have directly impacted over 120,000 people on four different continents.   Jo qualified as a medical doctor and spent a number of months in oncology where the death of a favourite patient provided a wakeup call to get her life “on purpose”. Within 6 months she had changed career and was accepted to the Actors Centre Australia.  A desire for more led Jo to explore the field of human psychology, behaviour and growth, and in 2003 she launched her own coaching company in Sydney, with no network and no business experience.  Within a year she had a thriving coaching practice, consulting with the likes of ANZ bank, John Fairfax Publishing and eBay.  Before launching One of many in 2014, Jo worked as Head of Research and Training at one of the fastest growing personal development companies  on the international stage and launched Shift Speaker Training in 2008 taking it to 7-figures within just 12 months. She went on to share her speaking success secrets with over 23000 business owners over four years.   One of many exists to help women leaders to increase their impact without burn out. Since launch, One of many has reached over 60,000 women around the world. Our tools and principles have been applied by women in industries across the spectrum: rail to real estate, pharma to finance, politics to police, manufacturing to medicine, law to life in general!  An internationally acclaimed and award-winning speaker, Jo is also a diplomatic wife, a sometimes-too-tired mother, a protective sister, and a caring friend. She is a committed financial investor in the work of The Hunger Project and has trained over 70 of their fundraisers and facilitators.  Download the 4 Stages of Wealth workbook for the clarity you need on where you're at with your finances… and what to do next on the path to financial freedom. https://www.facebook.com/DrJoannaMartin/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/joannamartin/   Resources:    Join the Facebook community  My Website  Wealth Hub Membership    Connect with me on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram & Facebook    Get my Planner - Wealth Accelerator Planner

Hello! Being surrounded by people who can support you in all areas of your life is really important to help things flow more easily. It's a concept I learned from Dr. Joanna Martin, founder of One of Many, called Conscious Network Design. It's essential to have a network of people you can rely on for the day-to-day stuff; not simply when you're faced with a crisis. Having this level of personal, practical support is just as important as being on top of your finances and having an emergency fund to get you out of a sticky spot. Examples might include support for promotions at work, or help looking after your children so that you and your other half can enjoy a much-needed date night together. Being alone is no fun and makes everything so much harder. That's why it's so important to have a strong network of people around you — and it's best to get this network in place now. Who in your life right now is there to help you in all the different areas? Nikki x P.S. For help with all things money-mindset related, I'll be opening the doors to my Money Mindset Reset course in just a few weeks' time. This course will help you to lift the lid on your limiting beliefs and clear them so you can get on the path to wealth and abundance. If you feel stuck around money, or would rather do anything but sort your finances out, then this course is definitely for you. To be first to know when it's opening, you can sign up here. There's no obligation to join me, it's just an invitation to find out more when it's available.

I am truly privileged to have Dr Joanna Martin as my guest on my podcast. Jo was my trainer when I first learned neuro-linguistic programming and she was also one of the people who taught me presentation and public speaking skills. Since she is the person who inspired me to want to become a speaker and trainer, it was a delight when she agreed to come on the show. Jo is a renowned visionary, coach, speaker and entrepreneur Her message and work have directly impacted over 120,000 people on four different continents. She initially qualified as a medical doctor and spent a number of months in oncology where the death of a favourite patient provided a wakeup call to get her life “on purpose”. Then, she changed her career and was accepted to the Actors Centre Australia. She went on to study human psychology, behaviour and growth and in 2003 launched her own coaching company in Sydney, with no network and no business experience. Within a year her business was thriving, consulting with the likes of ANZ bank, John Fairfax Publishing and eBay.From there she worked as Head of Research and Training at one of the fastest-growing personal development companies on the international stage and in 2008 launched her own business Shift Speaker Training, which she took to 7-figures within just 12 months. There she shared her speaking success secrets with over 23,000 business owners over four years. Her evolution continued in 2014 when she founded One of many, to help women to step up into leadership and increase their impact without burning out. One of many has so far reached over 70,000 women around the world. Jo is an internationally acclaimed and award-winning speaker, a diplomatic wife, a sometimes-too-tired mother, a protective sister, and a caring friend. Don't miss this fascinating and inspiring conversation and find out how Jo is just one of many women changing the world. For anyone who gets/got a bit lost when we talked about values systems, it was referring to Gravsian Values as defined by Clare Graves in Spiral Dynamics. A very worthwhile and surprisingly accessible book. The book Jo spoke about in relation to this is called Reinventing Organisations by Frederic Laloux.Jo's FREE gift to you is Seven Rituals to Calm the Daily Chaos: https://oneofmany.co.uk/rituals/Here are some ways you can connect with Joanna Martin on social media:Facebook - business page: https://www.facebook.com/OneOfManyWomen/ LinkedIn - business page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/one-of-many/ LinkedIn - profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joannamartin/ Instagram - business page: https://www.instagram.com/oneofmanywomen/Instagram - profile: https://www.instagram.com/drjoannamartin/Hope you enjoy the show. Same goal, different approachesSarah Heffron and Joanna Martin are members of the J.P. Morgan Electronic Client Solutions team in London.  Sarah runs European Equities Execution for traders and Joanna leads the Global Liquidity Solutions group focused on institutional client product needs. Over the years, Sarah and Joanna have come to develop a strong collaborative working relationship while driving institutional client business and building their teams. Although their roles are distinctly different they have found in certain situations that the unique blend of their skillsets enable them to find alternative solutions and unexpected approaches.  While one brings an analytic and problem-solving nature to the table the other brings the ability to connect dots and motivate people. What it takesAs leaders of large working groups, Sarah and Joanna are responsible for managing and building effective teams. Their personnel management approach includes understanding an individual employees’ career trajectory and continuously projecting out what the organizations’ future talent needs will likely be.  For early-stage employees, Sarah and Joanna tend to look for key skillsets they believe will add value to the business and grow the candidates’ career.  At the top of the list is the ability to harness the power of data, understand processes and deliver analytics.  They will be looking for talent who can build dashboards for traders, sales, and product to drive real time decision-making.Joanna also watches out for ‘self-starters’ who are curious and can collaborate, a skillset that together can set the stage for career mobility and new opportunities.Career mobility survival tipsWhen facing a steep learning curve such as starting a new role, Sarah advises that you need to get comfortable with not fully understanding certain dimensions of the job and the business for a while.  Joanna adds that asking questions to understand complex concepts demonstrates a willingness to learn and go the ‘extra mile’.  Both recommend developing strong communication skills and learning how and when to have a productive discussion with your manager about your new role.

Working Women's Wealth: The confidence to grow yourself and your money to achieve your goals and dream retirement

You’ve got big plans and you know how to set them into motion. You are a woman that CAN. You’re all GO, GO, GO and PUSH, PUSH, PUSH! Until you’re burnt out. With the realisation that it’s time to find a new way of operating. The fact is, women are 60% more likely to burn out than men, and as a gender, are less happy, less fertile, and sicker. But we have opportunities. And the power that it took us to achieve these opportunities is not the same power that it will take to sustain them. My guest today talks about the challenges facing women in leadership, and the five different energies, that if accessed, make available a very strong yet feminine power, which bring with it a huge amount of sustainability. If one wants to transform the wealth and well-being of a community in the developing world all of the research points to the empowerment of women, and Dr Joanna Martin (founder of One of Many) had a calling to support these women and equip them with the tools they need to step into leadership and change their corner of the world. Because ultimately, if all of us made a small impact we could massively change things.

"People get into business and they look at the people who've been doing it for years, who've got very successful established businesses, and think that's where they should be, and if they haven't achieved that within 3-6 months, they feel like they're failing. And they give up. But the thing is, there's a journey here, and you can't force yourself to grow faster than is actually possible, and so it's that understanding that makes the difference” (Catherine Watkin, www.sellingfromtheheart.com) As business owners, if you've ever had the experience of wanting to pack it all in because it's not happening quickly enough, or you haven't quite nailed your 'thing' yet - then you're going to get a huge amount from this episode. Catherine Watkin, founder of Selling From The Heart is this week's guest on the podcast. Catherine works with heart-centred business owners, who want a great business but don’t want to compromise their integrity. She helps them get more clients saying "Yes Please!" in a way that feels authentic, comfortable and is always in alignment with their values. You'll hear Catherine talk about how she always knew she wanted to have her own business, she just couldn't find what that business was meant to be (and not through want of trying either) She talks about how at the age of 41, she finally found the 'thing' she was meant to be doing, and since that moment (and it was a defining moment) she's not wanted to waste another moment since. "It's like finding the partner of your dreams and now I have it, why would I deny myself!" When I asked Catherine to reflect on the three words that sum up her entrepreneurial journey so far, she said: “Personal Growth. Hard Work. Happiness” What you’ll learn by listening to this episode: The journey Catherine went on to find her 'thing' she was meant to be doing in business, and how it finally happened 6 years ago (and has been unwavering since); The challenges of finding the right VA support team, and what Catherine has had to do to overcome that, and create what she now describes as her "dream team"; How, after putting up with years of chronic fatigue and depression, that is all behind her now, and being an entrepreneur plays a huge role in keeping her happy, grounded and stable; What self-care looks like for Catherine, and no, it's not getting out to a yoga class every day; The fear and anxiety she feels leading up to a new launch or live event, and how she responds to that; How learning to have difficult conversations and make brave decisions has really moved her forward in her business. Today’s Guest I originally met today’s guest, Joanna Martin, back in 2011 when I saw her speak in London. I recently saw her speak twice (in the same week!) and loved her so much that I signed up for her Lifestyle Business Program. She's an experienced and talented business mentor, and I'm so happy to have her on this week's episode. I particularly love Joanna's focus on what she calls the "feminine way to wealth." And now that I've been in her program for just under a month, I can confidently say that her tips and techniques work. And they're very feminine. Dr Joanna Martin is an internationally acclaimed speaker and sought-after educator who has taught over 55,000 people on three continents. She is one of the world’s most successful and inspirational speakers having taken her own business from stand still to 7 figures, and two countries, in 12 months. She is widely regarded as a Lifestyle Design Specialist. She started her working life as a medical doctor, then an actor before launching her career as a speaker.  She now runs what she calls “The Ultimate Lifestyle Business”. Spend more than a moment with Joanna you will never forget her!  She is one of the most entertaining speakers in the field of entrepreneurialism and personal development.  She was trained at the prestigious “Actors Centre Australia”, where other alumni include Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.  And it is her odd mix of being intelligent enough to pull off first class honours in medicine combined with her irreverent performer’s attitude that make her presentations and interviews truly unique and life-changing. She brings a quirky and feminine approach to an industry dominated by men. Now based between London and Melbourne, she trains entrepreneurs and professional women in lifestyle design, entrepreneurship and presentation skills. With her partner Greg, through their business, Shift Lifestyle they provide strategy and support for business owners who want to join the “Lifestyle Revolution” and build a life, not just a living.
