Author of The Thirteen-Hour Life Coach, Simon Arnold and I speak about his experience as an adult with ADHD, and the coping mechanism he leaned into as a child and beyond. In this episode you are going to learn tools for your children to take into the classroom setting, and hear an individual's experience living with ADHD unmedicated, and medicated.    Guest Bio Simon Arnold I am the author of The Thirteen-Hour Life Coach, a detailed biography of living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and having to design my own success strategies because no help was available. I found the strategies to be so useful, I was finding my life was getting better and better. I had to share my new found strategies with everyone. So I launched a podcast of the same name. In The Thirteen-Hour Life Coach Podcast, I talk with guests about a topic to help people with ADHD (and those that think they have it) to live an amazing life. I am currently on the forth season and already have guests lined up for season five. I have found that as I use my own strategies and learn from my guests, I am constantly refining these ADHD skills, which is now categoried as HFADHD (High Functioning ADHD). A second book is currently being written, I am fluent in both German and English and believe people with ADHD can really change themselves and their world for the better.  The Thirteen-Hour Life Coach book - https://www.lulu.com/shop/simon-arnold/the-thirteen-hour-life-coach/paperback/product-zjkrww.html?q=The+Thirteen+Hour+Coach&page=1&pageSize=4   The Thirteen Hour Life Coach Podcast (now in its 4th season) :https://open.spotify.com/show/7ss0ckw3YwOF82lkEq9s2b?si=-GppzFrTTiee_YyQF9b7Iw    Guest Social Media Links  Email: simonj.arnold@icloud.com Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-thirteen-hour-life-coach-podcast/id1619094855 (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-thirteen-hour-life-coach-podcast/id1619094855) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/simonarnold (https://www.facebook.com/simonarnold)   Host Bio Hi, I'm Ashleigh Tolliver, and this podcast is a road map to Parenting That Kid. Do you ever question… Should your ‘out of the box' child have a traditional diagnosis? Should you tell your child about their diagnosis ? If so, when and what do you say?   What are the emotional consequences for your child that comes with knowing, or not knowing, about a diagnosis? In today's episode, I speak with Jada D'Angelo, a school counselor and neuroscience enthusiast. Jada and I speak candidly about raising children with ADHD and the cause and effects of having a child traditionally diagnosed and what comes with sharing, or not sharing, the diagnosis with your child. About Jada “For as long as I can remember I have loved people. As a young adult I quickly became a self-proclaimed psycho-social geek and began studying anything I could get my hands on relating to holistic wellness. Fueled by these interests I pursued a career in education. I obtained a double major in Integrative Education as well Waldorf Education for my Master's degree and was able to teach for more than a decade in public and private schools in three countries. I taught preschool all the way through high school and had the honor to enter into the precious lives of students with a large spectrum of social, cultural, and neuro-diversity. After years in the classroom I harnessed my love for hearing someone's story and advocating for their sense of success and joy and pursued a post- Master's degree in School Counseling. Working with students and families one on one is my heart song and I find great joy in igniting the pilot light within others. For the past several years I have been working with private clients as well as in the private and public school sector as a counselor. When I am not intently listening or training myself on the latest neurscience, I enjoy doing all things outdoors, traveling, and snapping pictures, and hanging with my family (humans and fur) crew. And, as you can imagine, I am always up for listening to a great story." Lifewithjades@gmail.com   Your Host: Hi, I'm Ashleigh Tolliver, and this podcast is a road map to Parenting That Kid. Parenting a child with high demands can wreak havoc on your brain and your soul if you, the parent, do not prioritize your mental health and focus on the joy. But who has time for that? And how can you find joy when the stress and demands of raising a high needs child is unbearable? Today's episode will give you practical tools to support your mental health while once again finding the joy in parenting and life. About the Guest: In this episode, I speak with Amanda Newbry, a joy seeking mum and blogger, from central England, who battled her own mental health after having her two children. This episode provides a glimpse into the struggles that simple daily tasks can have on a child with anxiety. Colleen helps parents of “That Kid” by sharing tools and tips as well as ideas on where to start when you are a parent of an anxious child. Colleen Wildenhaus is the mother of a 13-year-old girl suffering from severe anxiety and OCD.  Her blog Good Bye Anxiety, Hello Joy shares with readers the journey her family takes to enjoy the small moments each day, keeping the beast of anxiety from taking away the joy of life.  Colleen became frustrated with medical and self-help books available to parents; while they offered suggestions, many were out of touch with reality. Through her blog, she shares the day to day struggles of parenting a child with anxiety, offering guidance, encouragement, and hope to parents.  In addition to being a mother and writer, Colleen is a former elementary teacher who holds two Master’s Degrees in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She draws from her expertise as an educator to coach parents and teachers in ways to make school successful for children with anxiety. Beyond writing, Colleen finds happiness in life’s simple joys — her children’s laughter, waves crashing on the beach, the wide-eyed excitement when students experience an “ah-ha!” moment, and fresh baked cookies.    Guest Social Media links Website - @https://goodbyeanxietyhellojoy.com Facebook- @https://www.facebook.com/groups/goodbyeanxietyhellojoy/ Hi, I’m Ashleigh Tolliver, and this podcast is a road map to Parenting That Kid. As a mother to a highly sensitive little boy, I know what it means to parent a child who does not fit into the ‘box’ modern society has put children into. My mission is to help other parents of “that kid”  feel less alone, more confident and more equipped by asking the tough questions to the professionals, gathering tools and resources and connecting with other moms who are wrestling with the same struggles. If recording my journey as I seek a clear starting point, community and effort to normalize life with a highly emotional, sometimes out of control child, supports at least one parent, then my time is not wasted. And if it doesn’t, there’s documented proof that moms deserve a glass of wine. Cheers  Thanks for listening! It means so much to us that you listened to our podcast! In this episode, we really dive into the differences in each child, their milestones, and the ways that they reach those milestones in relation to others. We focus on not comparing children to others, and that common markers are helpful, but not the be-all and end all in child development. Also discussed is the change in parent teacher relations as time has progressed, and how being too involved in dictating the teacher's actions can potentially be more harmful than helpful. We discuss tactics and tips for conversing and becoming a team with your children's teachers for the best growth trajectory. Elisabeth Stitt is a retired teacher of 25 years, a certified co-active parenting coach, author, and mother. Elisabeth is passionate about the individuality in children and that fostering that individuality is the key to success as they grow. This episode is a first hand account of how teachers can be the best partners in child development and often have different but helpful tactics on getting the best from your children.Positive Discipline Books: https://www.positivediscipline.com/catalog/books Dr. Laura Markhamhttps://www.ahaparenting.com/about Elisabeth Stitthttp://www.elisabethstitt.com

In this episode, I speak with Hillary Roberts. A mom of 5 under 8, with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on literacy, as well as an amateur photographer. This was a great conversation on the importance of having your people around and making the reality of having struggles a normal thing. Hillary has really honed in on the processes needed to acknowledge kids that need more help, especially in a large family environment. Some of these tactics include the ever challenging teachings of compromise, especially between siblings and other family members. We also touch on the importance of self care, how to find time for yourself and making sure that the time is actually carved out and used as necessary. We explore consistency in language and physical outlets for energy as well. Lots of information packed in a great episode!   Whole Brain Childhttps://www.drdansiegel.com/books/the_whole_brain_child/ Raising an Originalhttp://julielylescarr.com/raising-an-original Hillary Roberts@clarityinthechaos on Instagram

Nicole Hepburn is a high school counselor and educator holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and has a Masters in Education with a focus on counseling. In this episode, we talk about the relationship that kids and parents have (or can develop) with school counselors and the school-based support systems that exist. She teaches us about what questions to ask counselors of your children, and how to see if your kid is “normal”. Hint: They are!She quells fears about how our teenagers are reaching out to people that are not us, and tactics to work through the tough parts of growing up that a lot of kids face. Along with all of that, Nicole walks us extensively through navigating IEP (Individualized Education Programs), counselor meetings, and what information to be receiving and learning from those interactions. We touch on so much in this episode, and she reminds us that counselors are extensively trained in mental health, and they do have our kids best interests and feelings in mind. We end the episode on the often calming and positive space that simply getting outdoors with our family can get us to, and a book recommendation that supports that.If you ever wondered how the whole school counselor deal really works, you will love this episode! The Last Child In The Woods - Richard Louvhttp://richardlouv.com/books/last-child/ Song: episode 2.
