Hey listeners, it's that time again for our summer replay series and this week is Jenn‘s pick! Jenn chose to replay Chelsey Hautz. Chelsey is a Pediatric Occupational Therapist that was pivotal in Kya's development. This is a very informative episode so take a seat and join us! Chelsey Hautz, MScOT, BKin, practices as a pediatric occupational therapist in Vancouver, Canada. She has lived and worked in Canada, the UK, and Hong Kong. She believes wholeheartedly that we are built for connection and the meaning we cultivate within our own bodies, with others around us, and within the environments, we occupy from who we become and how we make sense of our lives. Her curiosities about the constantly changing field of neuroscience and the powerful connection between brain and body have led her to pursue a variety of post-graduate courses. She is committed to the learning and unlearning it takes to practice within a paradigm that values neurodiversity, inclusion, and autonomy centering on children and families throughout the therapeutic process. We were blown away by this interview with Chelsey, not only does she take the time to understand her own personal growth as a professional but reflects on the growth of the children she works with by tailoring her practice to each individual child. Chelsey was a huge part of Jenn and Kya's autism journey and made a lifelong impact on both of them. We learned so much and could talk to Chelsey for hours. Wait till you hear how she explains what occupational therapy is and why it is so important.

There wasn't a Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, and you see other parents doing stuff perfectly, and you've got spit up on your shirt and feel inadequate. Here to speak on that today is Kelly Shoup, a pediatric occupational therapist.

I first met Kyle in November 2020. A U.S. Military Veteran, Kyle was involved in a terrible car wreck on Veteran's Day 2020. First responders extricated him from his car and immediately took him to the hospital where he spent the next week undergoing emergency surgeries for multiple injuries. I met Kyle when he was released from the hospital and my firm had the honor and privilege to represent him in his personal injury case against the at fault driver who hit him. Kyle fought tirelessly to heal from his injuries and his day in day out attitude was so inspiring. We so often hear attorney's tell the stories of their cases. However, those stories belong to our clients so I asked Kyle to join the podcast to tell his story and I am so appreciate him for doing so. As mentioned, Kyle is a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard so we also talk about his service and its effect on his life and how he approached the challenges he faced after this wreck. We also talk about Kyle teaming up with a local Congresswoman to help the next veteran who finds themselves a victim of a car wreck facing mounting hospital bills and in the same position he was in after this wreck. Kyle has now worked his way back to being able to begin his career as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and is getting physically stronger every day. Kyle is now a newlywed and feels fortunate to be able to continue on his life's journey with his new wife. Finally, Kyle is an avid collector so we learn about his baseball cards collections, NFT ventures and family heirlooms. My firm feels so fortunate to be able to represent great young people like Kyle and we are beyond proud of his recovery and his successes in life. As always, this podcast is powered by the J. Stein Law Firm. A personal injury firm in Atlanta, GA – www.jsteinlawfirm.com Thank you for listening.

Parenting young children—especially neurodivergent littles—brings up these questions and more. Today, Laura Petix—The OT Butterfly—joins me to chat about all things meltdown-related: how to tell the difference between a meltdown and a tantrum, how to help children through the four phases of meltdowns, and how to manage expectations when parenting neurodivergent children. In this episode, I speak to Kristin Palen a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, and Waldorf-inspired homeschool mom about the therapeutic advantage of using nature as a tool to support children. Guest Social Media links Instagram - @https://www.instagram.com/coastalconnectionsot/ (https://www.instagram.com/coastalconnectionsot/) Website - @https://www.coastalconnectionsot.com/ (https://www.coastalconnectionsot.com/) About Me: Hi, I'm Ashleigh Tolliver, and this podcast is a road map to Parenting That Kid. As a mother to a highly sensitive little boy, I know what it means to parent a child who does not fit into the ‘box' modern society has put children into. My mission is to help other parents of “that kid” feel less alone, more confident and more equipped by asking the tough questions to the professionals, gathering tools and resources and connecting with other moms who are wrestling with the same struggles. If recording my journey as I seek a clear starting point, community and effort to normalize a life with a highly emotional, sometimes out of control child, supports at least one parent, then my time is not wasted. And if it doesn't well, there's documented proof that moms deserve a glass of wine. Cheers Thanks for listening! It means so much to us that you listened to our podcast! You do not want to miss this episode! We talk with Chelsey Hautz, who practices as a pediatric occupational therapist in Vancouver, Canada.
