On this episode of Soap Free Podcast, join your host JP as he delves into the world of cleaning and maintaining a healthy home. In this episode, JP from Soap Free Procyon shares insights and tips on how to keep your living space clean and tidy. As the warm weather approaches, JP is enjoying spending time outdoors and basks in the joy of summer. However, he reminds us that 85% of dirt is within 15 feet of the front and back door of our houses, emphasizing the importance of regularly vacuuming our homes. But it's not just about cleanliness for JP; it's about adopting a positive attitude. He stresses the importance of being nice, kicking ass, and repeating this behavior, aiming to embody this mindset every day. With the summer season approaching, JP urges listeners to interact face-to-face with loved ones and customers, drawing inspiration from a quote by John Wesley that encourages doing good in all possible ways and to all people. In addition to spreading positivity, JP offers valuable cleaning information, prioritizing listeners' health and happiness. He recommends using soap-free Procyon for carpet washing instead of shampoo that can leave residue behind. Residue is described as sticky and can cause loose dirt to stick to carpet fibers and fabric. Procyon, being soap-free and odor-free, proves to be the ideal choice for clean and odorless carpets while being environmentally friendly. JP also highlights the importance of avoiding chemicals on carpets during the barefooting season. Name brand cleaners containing caustic chemicals are warned against, and listeners are advised to shake a bottle of cleaner to test for suds, indicating the presence of chemicals. Furthermore, JP emphasizes the fact that our skin is our largest organ, capable of conveying chemicals into the bloodstream. Thus, he stresses the importance of avoiding unnecessary chemicals in our bodies. So, join JP on this episode of Soap Free Podcast as he shares insights on maintaining a clean home, prioritizing health, and adopting a positive mindset. Emerson says write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. He is rich who owns the day and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety. Finish every day and be done with it. You've done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. Begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be encumbered. With your old nonsense, this new day is too dear with its hopes and invitations to waste a moment on the yesterdays. Ok. Thank you, Mr. Emerson. Now what do we do with that? You know, perhaps I've said before that my best days are the ones where I get up with an attitude of what am I going to give to the world today as opposed to what am I going to get. I find that when I'm focused on the giving part, the getting just comes. But my spirit is much more focused on the importance of being part of my community, starting with service to my dear customers friends family that's where we should be focused and this works really well with your customers. You know you are delivering a super important product, keeping a home healthy and clean, super important for your customers. But it doesn't end there because they don't need a cleaning every day. But they should know that you are their friend every day, that you are a resource and an advisor. If for example, it may be that somebody trusts your services. I may ask you if you know a good plumber, good electrician who should come and maintain their air ducts or their furnace, whatever it might be. So consider who you know and who you serve and build those connections and deploy them for your clients. You know you can order from Procyon your custom spot and stain bottles to offer to your customers, but you know it doesn't end there. Tell them that you're there to be of service every day of the year. Even in between cleanings, why not offer your service? Offer your help, ask people what else you can do for them. It very rarely at some point nobody going to actually tap you for that. But you know what? It keeps you top of mind and it doesn't hurt to be thought of as the most generous, nicest vendor service provider that they know. So please keep that in mind. Even if you don't have gifts and boxes to give. You have the gift of yourself and your connections. Effects of inflation and rising costs and Extreme Pre-Spray, Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner, and Spot and Stain Remover as a solution. So I've got a few things to dwell on for all of us as we're thinking about that. Let's start with the green cleaning part. Yes, I'm going to talk about dwelling time again, but I'm going to keep it short and sweet. I'm looking at a bottle of all of our favorite Soap Free Procyon Spot and Stain Remover. And here it is. If you've got a stain, it says spray on the spot, allow cleaner to penetrate soiled area using a bleach free, white cotton towel, blot until spot is removed. In extreme cases, allow it to dwell five to ten minutes. So on that theme of dwelling, remember, if it's a bad stain, give it some time. We are so gentle to your health, to the environment, to your carpet, your upholstery, your lungs. And so you've got to give it that dwelling time. Okay, so that's it for the green cleaning part. Okay. All right. You're on. Hey, this is JP from Procyon. Thank you for joining me on another Soap Free Podcast today. I'd like to talk to you about the power of smiling. How is that related to cleaning? Well, we'll get to that at the end of the podcast, but would like to share some thoughts on smiling. So did you know that your voice sounds different when you talk while smiling? It was instructed or suggested to me early in my career that when I answer a phone or I'm talking to people, especially when I'm maybe not feeling cheerful or it's going to be a difficult phone call that I should remember to actually physically smile before I answer the phone or when I'm speaking in those situations because it makes you sound different even over the phone, certainly in person. It changes people's perceptions in order to reinforce those thoughts and share with you more thoroughly. I want to refer back to one of my not in person, but through book mentors Dale Carnegie, who you heard me mentioned before on the Soap free podcast. Carnegie is famous for teaching sales and personality habits to people who want to become very successful business leaders and salespeople. This is from his how to Win Friends and Influence People. Let me just read to you for a minute or two and then call, he says. The chairman of the board of directors, one of the largest rubber companies in the United States, told me that according to his observations, people rarely succeeded anything unless they have fun doing it. This industrial leader doesn't put much faith in the old adage. That hard work alone is the magic unlock the door to our desires. I have known people, he said, who succeeded because they had a rip roaring good time conducting their business. Later, I saw those people change. As the fun became work. Their business had grown dull. They lost all joy in it, and they failed. So you must have a good time meeting people or talking to them. If you expect them to have a good time meeting you. I have thousands of business people to smile at someone every hour of the day for a week and then come to class and talk about the results. How does it work? Let's see. Here is a letter from William B. Steinhardt, a New York stockbroker. This case isn't isolated. In fact, it is typical of hundreds of cases. I love this guy. You're going to love it, too. I've been married for over 18 years, wrote Mr.Stunheart, and all that time, I seldom smiled at my wife or spoke two dozen words to her. From the time I got up until I was ready to leave in the morning, I was one of the worst grouches who ever walked the street. When you asked me to make a talk about my experience with smiles, I thought I would try it for weeks. The next morning, while combing my hair. I looked at my glum mug in the mirror and said to myself, Bill, you're going to wipe that scowl off your sour Puss today you're going to smile and you're going to begin right now. As I sat down to breakfast, I agree to my wife with a good morning, dear and smiled as I said it. You warned me that she might be surprised. Well, you underestimated her reaction. She was bewildered. I told her that in the future she could expect this as a regular occurrence, and I kept it up every morning. This changed brought more happiness into our home in two months since I started than there was during the entire last year. So he goes on to say at some length that he began to smile at everybody as he went through his day. He had the cashier in a subway or somebody holding the door for him, etc. And he goes on now to say, I soon found that everybody was smiling back at me. I treat those who come to me with complaints or grievances in a cheerful manner. I smile as I listen to them, and I find that adjustments are accomplished much easier. I find that smiles are bringing me dollars many dollars every day. So for our professional cleaners out there inside, take note of that. Nothing else. That smile is going to improve your customer relations and bring you more dollars and repeat business and referrals. I promise you. So going on, you don't feel like smiling. Then what? Two things? First force yourself to smile. And by the way, I had to do that to start with. This is back when I was practicing law and almost every discussion I had was generally on the challenging or unpleasant side. You don't feel like smiling. You force yourself to do it. If you're alone, force yourself to whistle or humm a tune or sing, act as if you are already happy, and that will tend to make you happy. Here's the way the psychologist and philosopher William James put it, action seems to follow feeling, but really, action and feeling go together. And by regulating that action, which is under the more direct control of our personal Wills, we can indirectly regulate the feeling which is not under our control. Remember this, everybody in the world is seeking happiness. There is one sure way to find it and that's by controlling your thoughts, happiness doesn't depend on outward conditions. It depends on inner conditions. And so in conclusion, on that part, I just want to tell you remember to try this out, even if you don't feel like smiling when you're communicating with others. If you have to force it to begin with, do it, you'll change your habits. And this is a big change for the good. So smart. How does this relate to cleaning? Just occurred to me that for a lot of people, maybe those same people who don't smile when they're talking. If we're going to change that behavior consciously remember, it is a conscious choice to go from the cleaning methods and cleaners that we used growing up in the time we were children. Soaps and detergents and the smell of clean to most of us in a bathroom involves bleach. It involves caustic chemicals to clean tile, et cetera. So just like every day, forcing yourself and learning the habit of smiling at people or smiling when you're talking and your communication being positive, we have to bring that same diligent, conscious effort to making healthy choices about how and what we clean with a great place to start here's. The pitch is Soap Free Procyon's Spot and Stain Remover. I suggest if you haven't used it before you go to our website at soapfreeprocyon.com. Spelled P-R-O-C-Y-O-N and check out our beautiful line of products. But the first one to buy and your hero product every day will be our spot and stain remover. So two things get that Spot and Stain Remover and smile. See how it changes your life. And if it does, we would love to hear from you. The entire family at Soap Free Procyon wishes you a wonderful day. And if I don't publish another podcast before, Happy Halloween. Trick or treat. One of the big things you can do is to clean your air filters on your furnace. Absolutely important to do that quarterly at minimum. And the other important thing to do. We've talked before about how your carpet and the fibers in the carpet are actually the next biggest air filter in your home, because that warm or cold air gets filtered down the walls and through those fibers and then up into your lungs. So it's important to keep those carpets. And, you know, without me telling you exactly what product you should be using with no volatile organic compounds, those nasty VOCs. There's none of those in Soap Free Procyon. Anthony Robbins instructs is that every day we should make a plan. We should take massive action to execute on that plan. The third part is to review your results and revise your plan accordingly. And guess what the fourth step is to repeat. If you get in the habit of those three things, making a plan specific action items, taking massive action on a daily basis to achieve and execute on those items, review your results, make changes, learning from the day, and then repeating it's super powerful and simple. Some days that might just be one goal, one achievement, but it's super important. You do it. For more information, go to https://soapfreeprocyon.com/ Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise

Just a couple of quick hits today as we start to clean up our homes after all the summer activity in and out of the house for you homeowners, just a quick reminder that if you're getting out your home extractors or perhaps you're going out to rent a rug doctor or Bistle machine from your hardware store or your supermarket instead of using their soapy solution. And again, you shake that bottle a couple of times and you won't hear anything after two shakes because it's all suds instead of following their directions, which asks you to pour that solution in their machine and spray it on and suck it up. I want you to instead strongly consider using a best practice, which is to take our stream prespray or our carpet upholstery cleaner dilute according to directions and prespray your carefully vacuumed carpets. Let it dwell for ten or 15 minutes and then just use hot, clean water in those machines to extract the dirt. You're going to love the results and you can be assured that there's no VOCs, no soapy, sticky residue. It's the healthiest, best cleaning for your family and best for your carpets. For your commercial cleaners. If you want to offer your customers a wonderful, probably less expensive, less labor intensive method for you. Consider taking that extreme pre spray into those homes or your businesses for your business clients, along with a loopy cotton bonnet and your floor machine Rotary floor machine and just ring out in a mop bucket with the solution. That loopy bonnet. Put it down using your driver pad and just polish those rugs. It's going to take out dirt, polish the carpets. It's a low moisture cleaning method. The rugs will be dry in 15 or 20 minutes. It's very fast for you, very effective for your clients and a great value add. So I hope you can use those hints both as consumers in your homes and also as professionals to make your lives easier. Healthier better for everybody. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise

Volatile organic compounds, VOC's are gases that are emitted into the air from products or processes. Some are harmful by themselves, including some that do in fact, cause cancer. In addition, they can react with other gases and form other air pollutants after they are in the air. So where do VOC's come from? They can be found in the air indoors and outdoors. Some of these sources continue to produce VOCs is when they're stored or transported. Some of the more familiar VOCs include benzene, formaldehyde and Tallinn. These can be found in many of the things you use every day. In your furniture, pesticides, air fresheners, cosmetics, and deodorants, fuel oil and gasoline, and most germane to my conversation with you today, cleaners and disinfectants. So here's how VOCs can harm your health. It can irritate your eyes, nose, and throat. They can cause difficulty in breathing and nausea. They can damage your central nervous system as well as other organs. Some VOCs, as I've said can cause cancer. So what can you do to protect yourself from VOCs? Well use products that are low in VOCs or don't contain any VOCs. No big surprise. What I'm going to tell you next is all of our Soap Free Procyon products contain no VOCs whatsoever. Learn more about the best green cleaning products available at https://soapfreeprocyon.com/. [00:00:00.180] It's JP from Procyon, wishing you all the best this week and have a couple of thoughts to share with you, mostly on cleaning up after your pet using wonderful Soap Free Procyo. On that subject. Let me start with a simple quote. Life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it to Charles Swindell. Now, I try to keep that in mind when I find that my pet has left me a unexpected and unwanted little surprise. [00:00:36.120] And you know exactly what I'm talking about. I wish I could say that my reaction was always scalable and appropriate, but sometimes you know what I'm talking about. But let me make your life a little bit easier. Here's the simplest and best way to soap free and safely clean your pets messes. First of all, blow up as much of the material, be as solid or liquid as you can using paper towels or cloths. Get it all out as much as possible. [00:01:11.550] I'm going to tell you a little secret. Many of the certifications certifying organizations when they test the efficacy of cleaning products, test them against. I'll give you a minute to guess. Water, they tested against water. Water is easily an 80 percent solution to most problems, just rinsing things out. Well, but that's kind of tough with your carpet because you can't lift it up and carry it to the sink. So the best we can do is, again, blot up the liquid or pick up the solid material to the best extent possible and then take your bottle of Soap Free Procyon spot and stain remover, mist the area, use a brush or a hand and nails to gently agitated and let it sit for five minutes and then take a clean white bleach free towel or washcloth and blot it up. [00:02:14.660] Whatever material did not come up from the water should absolutely come out once you use the Soap Free Procyon and then allow it to dry. If it's soaked into the back of the carpet, you're going to have to use more water. That means you need to take a little more time to blotted out. You can even leave a small fan pointing at that spot to make sure it dries and no mold or mildew forms. And that's really it. Get yourself a bottle of our Soap Free Procyon Spot and Stain Remover. [00:02:46.100] It comes the convenient 32 ounce or 16 ounce spray or bottle it's ready to use and we'd love to get it to you. Check us out at www.SoapFreeProcyon.com. Thanks so much. And keep loving those pets. Have a healthy and wonderful week. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise
Use Soap Free Procyon to very effectively remove spots, stains and generally clean your laundry. The most environmentally friendly way to clean your clothes. Products mentioned: Extreme Carpet Pre-Spray https://soapfreeprocyon.com/product/extreme-pre-spray/ Spot & Stain Remover https://soapfreeprocyon.com/product/spot-stain-remover/ [00:00:00.180] Hello, it's JP from Procyon, and here we are at the end of April 2021, we've been pent up for a long time, but the good weather's here. And if you're like my family, we are out doing landscaping, gardening, and as a result ending up with some dirt and grass stains on our clothes. And so today's quick soap free cleaning tip is you can use Soap Free Procyon to very effectively remove spot, stains and generally clean your laundry. [00:00:37.110] So if you already have a bottle, grab it. If not, order one of our 32 ounce spot and stain remover trigger sprayer. This works terrific for direct application to the stained areas on your clothing, be it mud, grass, even some blood stains, which I hope you are not incurring those. But if you do whatever is in your laundry and tough to get out, give it a good spray with the spot and stain remover and let it dwell for five or ten minutes before your wash cycle. [00:01:13.560] Throw it in and if you really want to get things going. Use some of our spot and stain remover. I like to use two ounces in my washing machine instead of any detergent. It is super effective for getting all your clothes clean. So those two products you can solve pretty much any laundry problem and if you like, as in our household, we strictly use Extreme in our washing machine. Let me tell you how effective it is with the professional cleaning anecdote. [00:01:46.020] My friend Brian Duncan and I have long cleaned the greasy carpets in the lobby of the movie theater locally, and maybe you've heard me tell about this before, but we would end up with several 19 inch Luppi cotton bonnets that were just so greasy and waxy with all the spilled popcorn butter that they were just a horrible mess. We would simply take those bonnets, often a dozen of them, and put them in a commercial front loader washing machine and add four ounces of extreme. [00:02:20.550] That is our Soap Free Procyon extreme pre spray. Just that four ounces was effective in getting those cotton bonnets absolutely clean, all the grease removed. So only imagine what it can do in your home washing machine. That is the most environmentally friendly way to clean your clothes. So that's it. Guys, look at our website www.SoapFreeProcyon.com for easy ordering of both the Spot and Stain Remover and the Extreme Pre Spray. And of course you can get all of our products at our website. [00:02:56.790] So that's it. Wishing you a happy spring, get out there and enjoy it. And don't worry about getting your clothes dirty because we will get them clean again -- the green way. Have a healthy and happy week. Learn more at https://soapfreeprocyon.com/ Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise
Learn more about the best green cleaning products available at https://soapfreeprocyon.com/. [00:00:00.885] Hello, it's JP from Procyon, and I am sensing spring is in the air, here we are mid-March comes in like a lion, goes out like a lamb. I hope we all hope. And a little something for everybody this week. I've had a lot of terrific conversations with both household users and professionals. And I want to highlight a couple of things that came from that and also to add each week here a little encouraging or interesting quote. I think those always help us get along through our weeks and days and there might be something you want to share with the people you care about in your life. [00:00:44.415] So let's start with something that came from my conversation with Happy Soap Free Procyon residential user this week that I think our carpet cleaning professionals will enjoy as well. I know that one of the things that I frequently ran into during my days as a carpet cleaner was when people had recently moved or were planning on moving their furniture. And there were those big dents in the carpet that typically will ease up with time. But it's where the fabric or the fiber has become crushed from the weight of the furniture. [00:01:22.665] And so here's what a homeowner shared with me that I can't believe I didn't realize. But it's super simple. If you have a crushed spot in your carpet that you would like to heal quite quickly, take a fork out of your drawer to use gently on your carpet. But first, a clean washcloth. Get it moist, take your iron moist in the washcloth, lay it over the spot and simply use your household iron to apply a nice steam bath to that fabric. [00:02:01.005] So hold the iron down on the washcloth. Not for too long, just to create a nice, steamy environment and then gently rake it and focus on gentle with your fork. And that steam will allow the fiber to relax, much like when a steam iron takes the wrinkles out of your garments and "puff" it is gone. And I actually asked her to demonstrate it for me over the phone using FaceTime and I'll be darned. It was so simple, so easy. [00:02:34.575] So for both our residential customers and our professionals, keep that iron handy and iron those dents out of your carpet. The second quick hit is I had a wonderful conversation with one of the maintenance people at a major research university on the East Coast who wanted some brief instructions on the appropriate use of our soap free solutions. They've been longtime users of Extreme, and this person reported to me with some exasperation that some of their cleaning technicians were using it undiluted, which is great for us because we sell them more product. [00:03:16.845] But, you know, our normal dilution rate is four ounces to a gallon, which makes us very economical. He was very concerned about what the impact of putting all that product into the carpet undiluted was and told him that likely no damage whatsoever because we are so gentle. I also, much to my detriment, informed him that they could probably just use some fresh water rinses on that carpet on their future cleanings, because there's probably some Procyon left in that carpet. [00:03:49.305] But here's the part that really, really struck me is he was talking about the ten or twelve different types of professional equipment they use. Some riding equipment, some walk behind equipment and and wanted to know how to most effectively use the Extreme, because if you're using this on the riding equipment, that is for extraction, that is hot water extraction as opposed to low moisture encapsulation, these machines do not allow sufficient dwelling time. So the simple input I was able to give him was, please use a simple hand pre spray equipment, a pump sprayer and layout the extreme pre spray on the carpet and just let it dwell for five or ten minutes if it's extremely dirty, maybe even fifteen minutes. [00:04:43.815] But if they start from a point and spray away from their equipment, by the time they're done, they can start extracting from the point they started because that will probably give them the five or ten minutes they need. He actually got back to me later in the week and said that that dwelling time was like magic. It boosted the results dramatically, sometimes the carpet was even looking brighter before they ran their equipment over. So just to double back on something you've heard me say repeatedly on past podcasts, please allow dwelling time. [00:05:16.765] When you take out the nasty sticky, so be caustic chemicals that make clean quicker, but leave residue. You have to add something back. And that magic ingredient you're adding back is time. So dwelling, time, dwelling, time, dwelling time. OK, just to wrap up, I'd like to share with you a some thoughts on success. And this is from a famous American poet and writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson. And it is entitled "What is Success?" [00:06:27.055] "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!” [00:06:27.055] That's by Ralph Waldo Emerson and really a beloved piece in my life. [00:06:32.695] So this is JP from Procyon asking you to be healthy, be kind, be strong and have a great week. Thanks for listening. Go to https://soapfreeprocyon.com/. Reminder that sharing is caring. So if you've got neighbors, family or friends that have spots and I know all of us do, don't forget to hit them up with a little bit of your spot and stain remover or other Procyon products. It's the healthiest and most loving thing you can do for your friends and neighbors and family. Toward that end, I want to share with you that I had a neighbor recently that was giving away a chair posted on Facebook that the chair was to give away, just had a brown spot on the back. [00:00:38.635] It's a lovely light green chair, pretty high quality. And I said, hey, we'll take it. And I felt a little guilty because I came home and I cleaned it up and I sent them a picture and gave them the option to take it back. And guess what? They were very grateful and said, yeah, we'd love it back. So let me tell you what I did. Normally, I would use our spot and stain remover to pre spray and let it dwell. [00:01:05.795] Remember, dwelling is always important for 10 minutes, maybe even 15, if it's a terrible spot and light agitation, remember agitation is like when you scrub your head with your fingers, when you're shampooing. With upholstery, remember, you don't want to be too tough on it. You want to use a very soft brush or a soft cloth or rub it gently with your hand to agitate so you don't cause any killing or damage to the fabric or the pile of the fabric. [00:01:34.885] So in this particular case, instead of using spot and stain remover, I took some of our Plus Powder, which is typically used by our cleaning professionals, our dedicated cleaning professionals that have truck mounted high heat systems. But I just took a teaspoon of the powder and I mixed it in eight ounces, actually 16 ounces of water and put it in a spray bottle. I sprayed gently mist into the fabric. I let it dwell for five minutes and brushed it gently and then hot water extracted it using our Hoover portable residential machine and it came out just like new. [00:02:16.045] So we've got a very happy neighbor, I'm short a chair. It was lovely, but like I said, sharing is caring. And I hope that you find time this Valentine's Day week of 2021 to appreciate your neighbors, your friends, your family. Show them you care, show them you love them. And I want all of you to know that all of us at Procyon love and appreciate you as our customers. Have a terrific week and clean green. Take care. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise

Visit us at https://soapfreeprocyon.com/ Transcript [00:00:00.095] Hey, thanks for joining me today, it's JP from Procyon with another soap free podcast. Well, we all survived Thanksgiving. I hope you had a healthy and enjoyable one during this very strange pandemic year. And now we're heading toward Christmas and it's it's giving season. So my mind is very much on the joys of giving. I'd like to share with you today some great quotes about exactly that and then tell you a quick story. But I know I get the most out of this season each year. [00:00:38.315] Instead of just focusing on things I might like, it's become much more important to me to think about what I can give. So here's just a few great quotes I just love. No one has ever become poorer from by giving from Anne Frank. And we all know what she gave. Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more. That's Jackson Browne, Jr.. Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a great deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give Eleanor Roosevelt. [00:01:16.485] We must give more in order to get more. It's the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest for us and Martin. We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. Winston Churchill, No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another. Charles Dickens, a seasonal Ford, is in giving that we receive St Francis of Assisi. It is every man's obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it. [00:01:58.925] The meaning of life is to find your gift, the purpose of life is to give it away. So the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. And those who are happiest are those who do the most for others. Booker T. Washington. So in that vein, a wonderful opportunity came my way this week through the misfortune of a friend, Brian, who is my dear friend and father of a one of my son's classmates in high school. [00:02:41.855] And I started a carpet cleaning company well over a decade ago. Brian still runs the company full time and does an amazing and reputable job in our region. So Brian's also an avid mountain trail runner. I've been holding my breath for most of that decade, hoping he didn't get injured in this past weekend. Lo and behold, he took a fall and ended up breaking his left wrist. So when we had coffee on Monday morning to discuss the season and just catch up, I offered that if you found he needed help, I could change my schedule around and help them with jobs this week. [00:03:19.775] And he, in fact, called upon me yesterday. So I have the privilege and the opportunity to do the noble work of some commercial carpet cleaning on Friday, hoping to have a little video from that to share with you online, because we will be using encapsulation cleaning methods, using Rotary for machine. But more importantly, it's just such a great thing for me to have the opportunity to help a dear friend. And that is just right in my wheelhouse and exactly how I want my holiday season to unfold. [00:03:55.685] So I just wanted to share that with you. Put the thought of giving in your mind. It's often said that, you know, a shared misery is half a misery. So let's be out there. All of us. I encourage you finding opportunities to help those we know and those we don't know during these very difficult times and to make the most of this holiday season. I'm going to leave you with one more quote from William Penn. He said, I expect to pass through life, but once if there be any kindness I can show or any good thing I can do to any fellow human being, let me do it now and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again. [00:04:42.095] With that, I wish all of you a wonderful, bright and giving holiday season. Stay safe and visit us at SoapFreeProcyon.com. We're here for you, your health and the environment. Check out the best soap free, green cleaning products at https://soapfreeprocyon.com [00:00:00.620] This is JP from Procyon, and today I've got a quick hit for our professional cleaners out there, but I think it'll also be of great interest to our consumer household users as well. Some of you may have heard of or actually may use encapsulation cleaning. Now, it's also referred to as encap or encapping. That's ENCAP. And although it's misunderstood, the cleaning system has gained tremendous popularity in recent years. It's actually been around since the late nineteen nineties or early 2000s. [00:00:33.860] The method often uses similar equipment as the shampooing method. You know, I hate that terminology shampooing because it makes us think of soaps and suds and that is not Procyon. But for that reason, many have confused and dismissed this method of encapping. But it's a very new, revolutionary type of chemistry that makes it very effective. And I think you're going to find interesting. And for our professionals, you may add this to your tool kit and make your business even more profitable, less equipment, shorter time, highly effective. [00:01:11.660] So more profit for you. So the encapsulation cleaning system applies a cleaning solution often, unfortunately, containing crystalizing acrylic polymers. Now, the last thing we need is more plastic in the environment. Right. So I hate that acrylic polymer, but we approach on offer you a solution. Our Extreme Pre-Spray is certified as being effective for encapsulation cleaning, so you should use it. At least try it out, because I think we're going to prove to you it should be your encap method. [00:01:48.680] And if you're not already encap cleaning, this is a simple way. Again, to add a new service for your clients that can be very cost effective for both of you. So what happens is the encapsulation formula contains surfactants and for Procyon and it oversimplifies it. But just think of it as sodium, salt, much like seawater. So there's a few other ingredients in the aid in breaking down the bond between grease and grime and carpet fibers, so encapsulation machines are typically rotary agitation machines. [00:02:23.490] Some of the famous names are, Cimex. Well, that is the biggest name right now, but they're basically rotary brushes. In the simplest form. What you use is a rotary floor machine. That's what you see, people moving around, polishing floors, hard surfaces and carpets. So as a professional, what you're going to do is take a mop bucket and a loopi cotton bonnet, mix our Extreme Procyon Pre -Spray in the suggested amounts into that mop bucket. [00:02:59.160] You're going to put your bonnet right in there and then wring it out, put it on the floor, put your floor machine on it and start cleaning the carpet. Now it's going to polish and clean and break down the greasy, grimy dirt. There's no rinsing involved because we do not leave any residue. The bonnet is going to get filthy. So you have a big job. You're going to want to take a dozen or 20 bonnets with you, but flip it over when one side gets dirty and it's going to get black with dirt. [00:03:30.690] But here's the amazing thing. There's no rinsing required. What's going to happen is that the salts and cleaning factors in our Extreme or other encap products, I really want you to try the Extreme. It will crystallize around that dirt, whatever is remaining in the carpet. So the carpet is going to appear really clean. There's still going to be some crystallised dirt in there, but that crystallized dirt is going to be dry and it's going to vacuum right out. [00:04:00.030] And then what's going to happen is the carpet is going to stay cleaner longer because it's not soapy, sticky. There's no residue, so new dirt does not adhere. So to recap here on the encap, you're going to use this method of rotary cleaning, hopefully using Procyon's Soap Free Extreme Pre-Spray, low moisture cleaning methods. So it's not going to leave the carpet wet. It should be dry within an hour. So this is another great reason to use encap. [00:04:35.460] And then whatever dirt's left there is going to be vacuumed out by your customers, regular carpet cleaning with their vacuum. And so this is a method that you can offer people between your restoration cleanings. The restoration refers to where we pre spray, agitate and then extract with rinse, rinse with clean water. But here, no rinse. So you can go in and do a quick clean on a restaurant or other places where there is extreme greasy dirt and you're going to leave it looking clean, beautiful, and you're going to stretch out those restoration cleanings that are very expensive, very time consuming for you, just so much labor. [00:05:18.210] And it's going to make your customers so happy that you can offer this very healthy, very effective low moisture, encap cleaning method. OK, so that's it from JP at Procyon for this week. Until the next time, stay healthy, stay soap free and visit us at SoapFreeProcyon.com. That's p r o c y o n. So long. It's a whole lot going on. And today I want to talk to you about the health of your lungs. Let's all just take a nice deep breath in and out. No, I'm not meditating, although not a bad idea considering the pandemic. We're all a little nervous about the elections, et cetera. But it's fall. And there's not just spring cleaning, there's fall cleaning. [00:00:37.500] And I would like to suggest to you that you do it in a way that is healthy for your lungs because lung health is paramount right now during this pandemic. The product I want to talk to you about is our tile and grout cleaner, you know, if you're like me, I try to do a good job keeping up with my shower and tile floor cleaning, but I can slip a little bit and once in a while, it's time for that thorough cleaning. [00:01:03.940] Now, many of you may reach for trusted solutions such as CLR. Or, for example, Clorox products now perhaps you have used these in the past, you know, from your experience, if you spray these on, you better have a gas mask on or hold your breath, because these are caustic substances that will burn your lungs and your eyes. I mean, even if it feels like it's not permanent, it can't be good for you. You know that from the first time you smell it and breathe it, it'll make you cough, it'll make you wheeze, it'll make your eyes burn in water. [00:01:41.730] Not good for you. Now the contrast our Soap Free Procyon tile and grout cleaner. I'm shaking the bottle right now. There's no suds. There's no VOC's. It's incredibly effective. And you can breathe it all day long because there's nothing there to harm you. So what I want to tell you about is right on the bottle. It'll explain that for medium soil, it's four ounces to one gallon heavy soil, six ounces to one gallon extreme soil, eight ounces to one gallon. [00:02:15.660] And once you have a clean, you can just make it daily maintenance spray of two ounces to one gallon to keep in a separate spray bottle, if you like. But all you do is spray it on, use your tile brush to give it a good scrub and rinse it off. If it's really heavy soil and you've used the right solution, give it a few minutes to dwell, three to five minutes to be more than enough. Think you're going to love the result. [00:02:42.090] And what you're really going to love is that you're keeping your lungs healthy. Good for you, good for your family, good for the environment. Give us a try. You can find us at www.SoapFreeProcyon.com. That's Procyon p r o c y o n. Thanks for listening and have a healthy and happy day. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise

And today I would like to speak directly to our very valued professional cleaners throughout the country and the world. We are here to support your green and environmentally friendly cleaning business with our top rated soap and detergent free Procyon products. But here's a way that you can support yourself and make your customers really, really happy. When you have finished your wonderful job cleaning your client's home. [00:00:41.410] Not only will they be super happy with your always wonderful result, but you can make sure that they stay happy. And here's how. Long ago, when I was starting my carpet cleaning business, Ivan Day, the founder of the company, told me that the last thing to do to complete your job is go to the sink, the kitchen sink with your client and look underneath with them and have them pull out every single bottle of rug spotter and rug cleaner it might be in their laundry room. [00:01:15.870] But for the sake of discussion, let's just say it's under the sink. Have them pull it out. And with them, shake the bottle, let them hear that after two or three shakes, it's full of suds and explain to them that you don't want any more of this product going to their carpet because it may seem like it's helping them, but it's only hurting them because although it may appear to remove the spot, it's likely to reappear. And certainly that area, their carpet is going to be soiled much more quickly because it's going to have all of the dirt attracted to it and sticking to it because of the soap. [00:01:53.410] Instead, you can be prepared as a thank you gift to trade your client for all those nasty bottles in exchange for you giving them a custom spot remover bottle that contains your logo. Not only is this a wonderful thank you gift, but every time they go to use it and by the way, you've cleared out a lot of clutter from their sink and cabinets. They're going to grab this bottle. They're going to use it. It's going to work. [00:02:20.170] And they're going to be so grateful and amazed by the result. It's going to make your job easier next time because you're not going to be faced with whatever potential time bombs they've placed in the carpet with chemicals and soap and oxy and all sorts of other products. The other piece is. Every time they grab that bottle and they're full of gratitude, it's going to keep your business top of mind and top of mind. Marketing is the most effective ongoing marketing you can do. [00:02:52.510] It's one price for you. It's giving your client a wonderful thank you and reason to be grateful for you every time they have to clean their carpet. Spotting between your cleaning's keeps your business top of mind, and they will never be without your phone number and contact information. So it's win, win, win, and it will in fact make your job easier and keep your clients that much more satisfied. If that sounds good to you and you would like to try this amazing business booster, check out SoapFreeProcyon.com. About cleaning your wool carpets. Extreme Pre-Spray. https://soapfreeprocyon.com/product/extreme-pre-spray/ [00:00:01.310] Hey, it's J.P. from Procyon, and thanks for joining me in this week's podcast. Today, I want to talk a little bit about cleaning your wool carpets. Wool is a special subset being a natural fibre. And we are proud at Procyon to have our Extreme Pre-Spray certified by the Wool Safe Organization out of the U.K. Woolsafe.org if you want to look it up. And there's some good information for you and our products do carry. That is the Extreme carries the Wool Safe approved label. [00:00:35.090] Before we get into that, a couple of terms I'd like to refresh on. One is surfactant. Remember, a surfactant decreases the surface tension of liquids or the tension between a liquid and a solid. So here dirt is that solid that we're trying to detach from a fiber. So we have the water softeners that help and sodium as our surfactant that helps decrease that surface tension and helps you rinse away soils from your carpet fibers. Second term, I'd like to remind you of is emulsifying or emulsion and emulsion is a mixture of two or more liquids that are normally what's called immiscible, in other words, unmixable or unblendable. [00:01:21.740] And the emulsion works owing to a liquid to liquid phase separation. It's getting a little more technical than need be. But let's just say that what we're doing is we're taking a solid and creating an emulsion, turning into a liquid, allowing it to be rinsed away. So now onto your wool carpets as a first step. If you have a spill or spot, don't panic, but act as quickly as possible to remove as much of the fresh soil in the fresh spot. [00:01:53.120] You can decide whether to tackle the removal yourself in case of an extensive or old set in stain. We really do suggest you contact a professional cleaner, so you should always take up as much of the soil or stain as possible before applying any wool safe approved product. I prefer to use our Extreme Pre-Spray, but you do that by blotting it up with a bleach free white cloth. So just start with that. Then you can use a little bit of water if you want the blot it up. [00:02:27.560] And then when you're using our Extreme Pre-Spray spot, create the mix and then apply it to the rag you're using or the bleach free terry cloth washcloth, for example, and then blot. Now I want you to do is I want you to blot from the edge instead of the center, because that way, if you blot from the edge to the middle, you're going to avoid spreading that stain further outward. So use small quantities of the extreme or your spot remover at a time and repeat as necessary blotting. [00:03:05.090] Don't over wet the carpet. And finally, do rinse it with fresh water on your cloth. And remember, when you're ready to pre-spray and clean your entire wool carpet, use our Extreme Pre-Spray. Sprayed it on, agitate lightly, let the surfactant action work for five to ten minutes and then rinse with clean water. This is how you will safely take care of your carpets, leaving them in that pH neutral state that is most desirable for the long term preservation and enjoyment of your beautiful wool, carpets and rugs. That's it this week from JP at Procyon. [00:03:48.830] Thanks for listening and have a healthy and clean week. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise
[00:00:00.420] Hey, it's JP from Procyon, and I thank you again for joining me on our soap free podcast this week. I want to talk to you briefly about air filtration in your home. How does that relate to your carpets, you might ask, of all of us are more concerned than ever about keeping our home environment as healthy as possible, especially as we work to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. I bet that you change the filters on your furnace and air conditioning unit on a regular basis probably say twice a year. [00:00:34.200] It only makes sense. A dirty filter will allow more pollutants in your home and your unit won't work as well. Did you know that your carpet is a filter as well? It is, and it must be cleaned just like the one for your furnace. In fact, your carpet is the biggest air filter in your entire home. It filters out airborne pollutants such as fungus, asphalt pollens, dust mites and dirt. If you have a light-colored carpet, you may have noticed thin black lines around the baseboards of your rooms. [00:01:07.320] These so-called filtration soiling lines are visible evidence of the thermodynamic air circulation patterns in your home and the irrefutable fact that your perfect traps those pollutants and soil and prevents them from continuing to circulate in the air in your home. When you vacuum your carpet, some of these soils are removed, but not all. The typical home vacuum is simply not built to remove all the pollutants that find their way into your carpet or their air filter. It takes regular carpet cleaning to get the remaining pollutants out of your carpet. [00:01:43.350] Just like an air filter. Your carpet can only hold so much dirt and pollens and dust mites, but comes a time when it's completely saturated. When this happens, it leads to an unhealthy indoor air environment. All of these allergens find their way back into the air in your home once there's saturation. So you want to have your carpets regularly cleaned and you want to insist that they're cleaned by a professional who uses an environmentally friendly, healthy, safe, non-toxic product. [00:02:15.660] And, you know right where to find that at SoapFreeProcyon.com in all of our Soap Free Procyon products. So this is JP from Procyon, wishing you a healthy green week. Thanks again for your time. Be safe out there. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise
[00:00:00.060] Greetings, this is JP at Procyon and happy to be here with you on this week's podcast instead of being technical this week. I want to share with you a little personal story from my carpet cleaning training that has stuck with me and really has to do with the human element of the cleaning business. And as you know, and I've spoken about frequently, I'm always so impressed by the heart and spirit of the people that work in the cleaning industry. And those people that concern themselves with green cleaning are, of course, especially near and dear to my heart and all of our hearts at Soap Free Procyon. [00:00:41.880] So what I'd like to share with you is when I went to my first carpet cleaning certification class called out by the instructor, he noted that I had thick skin so he could pick on me a bit. And he saw I was pretty concerned about knowing everything and trying to get 100 percent on every test segment as we went through the three courses. So he said a funny thing to everybody. He said, here's JP studying hard, getting close to perfect results. [00:01:17.160] He said, there's a lot of you out there that are getting 70 or 75 percent on your tests. And you're going to be much more successful in business because you can know everything. Technically, what you do have the most up to date information, be an amazing technician, but unless you're wonderful with people, you can still fail miserably in the business. So toward that end, and I guess I hope he was teasing because I think I'm a pretty nice guy, but it did get me to double down on the idea that I really needed to study human relationships and customer service and make sure that I was interacting in a very beneficial manner with my customers. [00:02:00.660] So they understood that I really cared about them. Toward that end, I read a book that I suggest to all of you by it's a classic by a famous author and teacher of customer service and sales strategies, Dale Carnegie. And it's from his book How to Win Friends and Influence People. So this is just one excerpt. I highly recommend you grab this book. No matter how long you've been in the business, no matter how many wonderful relationships you think you'll find this helpful. [00:02:32.280] This is from a chapter entitled Do This and You'll Be Welcome Anywhere. So it says, Why read this book? To find out how to win friends. Why not study the technique of the greatest winner of friends the world has ever known? Who is he? You may meet him tomorrow morning down the street and you get within ten feet of him. He will begin to wag his tail. If you stop and pat him, you will almost jump out of the skin to show you how much he loves you. [00:02:58.620] And you know that behind this show of affection on his part, there is no ulterior motives. He doesn't want to sell you any real estate. You ever think that a dog is the only animal that doesn't have to work for a living? A hen has to lay eggs, a cow has to give milk and a canary has to sing. The dog makes his living by giving you nothing but love. When I was five years old, my father bought a little yellow haired pup for fifty cents. [00:03:26.190] He was the light and joy of my childhood. Every afternoon, about four thirty, he would sit in the front yard with his beautiful eyes, staring steadfastly at the path. And as soon as he heard my voice or saw me swinging my dinner pail through the brush, he was off like a shot, pacing breathlessly up the hill to greet me with leaps of joy and barks of sheer ecstasy. Tippy was my constant companion for five years. Then one tragic night, I shall never forget it. [00:03:53.610] He was killed within ten feet of my head, killed by lightning. Tippy's death was the tragedy of my boyhood. You never read a book on psychology Tippy. You didn't need to. You knew by some divine instinct that you can make more friends in two months by becoming genuinely interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you. Let me repeat that you make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you. [00:04:29.430] Yet I know. And you know, people who blunder through life trying to wig wag other people into becoming interested in them. Of course it doesn't work. People are not interested in you. They're not interested in me. They're interested in themselves. Morning, noon and after dinner. The New York telephone company did a detailed study of telephone conversations to find out which word is the most frequently used, you've guessed it. It's the personal pronoun. I, I, I it was used thirty nine hundred times in five hundred telephone conversations. [00:05:06.750] I felt I could go on. The whole book is wonderful, but please take away from at this point. As you work hard to bring the best service to your customers, including using Soap Free Procyon for the healthiest cleaning, that you found the best air quality for your customers. People want to know that you are interested in them, so the way I put this to use is be like Tippy, be like a dog. Tell people that you are interested in them and show them through your actions and your service how much you care, it's about them, not about you. [00:05:47.970] No, this hasn't been a technical discussion or sharing today, but I think that when you combine it with your already sincere, hard work as technicians and carpet cleaning, you can find that this greatly enhances your repeat business, the satisfaction of your customers and your success and happiness. That's it for this week, this is JP from Procyon, wishing you a healthy, soap free, wonderful week. Take care. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise
[00:00:02.100] Hello, all you soap free cleaners out there, it's JP from Procyon. Thanks for tuning into this week's podcast. We're going to talk a little bit about up front about how often you should have your carpet cleaned. And I'd like to talk specifically about pH, potential of hydrogen and the importance of cleaning. So to keep your carpet looking and performing at its best, the Carpet and Rug Institute recommends having your carpet professionally deep cleaned every 12 to 18 months. Bear in mind that this recommended frequency is a general guideline only and can vary based on particular circumstances, depending on how much dirt each of your home, seasons, etc. [00:00:47.160] The 12 to 18 months. And we appreciate that information from the Carpet Institute. And Soap Free Procyon is a proud member of the Institute. So let's talk about pH levels and cleaning. When chemicals are dissolved in water, the mixtures pH level can become either acidic or basic. So, vinegar and lemon juice are acidic substances, while laundry detergent and ammonia are super basic. Ammonia, super basic or alkaline. pH level of 7.0, which is pure water is neutral. [00:01:32.850] So on the pH scale of seven is neutral. Acid and bases are two extremes that describe the property of a chemical such as how hot and cold are used to describe two extremes of temperature. So P.H., which stands for potential of hydrogen, is the measurement of acidity or alkalinity of a substance when dissolved in water, just as degree is used to measure precise temperature, pH gives us precise measurement of acidity or alkalinity. So mixing acids and bases can cancel out their extreme effects, much like mixing hot and cold water can even out of water temperature, extremely acidic or basic materials reactive and can cause severe burns. [00:02:18.000] Examples include automobile battery acid. So unlike the temperature scale, the pH scale is logarithmic. In other words, each number is ten times more powerful or less powerful than the next or preceding number. The pH of eight is ten times more alkaline, than the pH of seven and a pH of nine is one hundred times more than a page of seven, etc.. So what is the pH of carpet cleaning? When cleaning acidic soils, which are the most common type of soil, it's recommended to use an alkaline detergent and to eliminate alkaline type soils. [00:03:04.740] A cleaning solution on the acidic side of the scale, typically with the pH of two to five, is what you would use. But that's not the business of Soap Free Procyon. We are on the slightly alkaline side because most common soils are acidic, so you can use an alkaline cleaner to get it out. According to the International Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, the IICRC for general cleaning of carpet that is moderately soiled and made from synthetic fibers, which is most of our carpets and rugs in our house, such as those in a residential setting. [00:03:45.180] An alkaline cleaner with a pH around or under 10 might work best and usually best. However, carpet cleaning techniques, technicians working in a busy restaurant, for instance, where a carpet may be heavily soiled, may require a product with a higher alcohol concentration of up to 12. But these technicians always ensure that using chemicals this level don't void your carpet warranty. Good carpet cleaning technician is going to make sure they're not using too strong chemicals. So when cleaning carpet or fabrics made from natural sources such as wool and cotton, the neutral or slightly alkaline chemical solution is often the best choice. [00:04:31.620] This choice helps protect the fibers and the coloring. So now you have some basic knowledge about pH levels and their importance in carpet cleaning. You can better understand my professional carpet cleaners devoted to their customers health and safety. So-called green cleaners are so devoted to our Soap Free Procyon products. The Procyon cleaning products are in the alkaline range of seven. Specific example is our famed Soap Free Procyon Extreme Pre-Spray with the concentrated pH of 11.0, a working diluted pH of 10.5 and here's the amazing thing it drives to a practically neutral 6.5 pH. [00:05:16.650] So it's perfect for all of your carpet and upholstery cleaning requirements, even wool and silk. So I hope you found this information helpful. This is JP from Procyon, wishing you a healthy, clean and happy week. Take care and talk to you soon. Subscribe to Soap Free Podcast on Soundwise
[00:00:00.960] Hello, everyone, it's JP from Procyon here in the last few days of our covid July of 2020. I hope everybody out there is staying safe and taking care of themselves and their families and friends we have as a company. Been receiving really generous participation from some of our users and also we reached out to some people who haven't used it before, who are professional cleaners in the industry, asking them to try it and review it. And we've had just such thoughtful, enthusiastic and generous response. [00:00:39.850] It has reminded me once again of what I love about the spirit of the cleaning industry year, perhaps in particular here in the midst of this very difficult time, people are spending a lot more time at home and they're turning to professional cleaners to deliver the always important service. But just makes me think that in this time, generally, it's so important that we all find ways to care about each other as people suffer through the effects of this virus, including feelings of isolation and depression. [00:01:20.770] So all the contact we can have with people showing that care is super important and all of us at Procyon are proud to be part of that. And we are here for you. So I wanted to share in particular that I've had some really heartfelt calls with some people both to tell me how much they appreciate usually the extreme pre spray, the spot and stain and the powder and just how much their customers love it. Once they've experienced the green cleaning and the residue free experience in their carpet and their upholstery, that they never want to go back. [00:02:04.210] And there are so many people out there who are sensitive to allergens and therefore volatile organic compounds or Vox's that customers are thrilled to learn that there's a product out there that can be thoroughly cleaned and yet protect their health and avoid so many of the problems that the common cleaners that are so perfumed and so out there cause for them. So for those people that are already using our product and are committed to green cleaning, thank you. And so appreciative that all of us have Procyon on our. [00:02:41.410] But for those of you who may be out there, either in your households or as professionals that haven't used a green cleaning solution or Procyon in particular, really want to encourage you to try it. And for professional cleaners who may be skeptical about whether a green cleaner has the chemistry to do the cleaning, that you feel that you are getting the excellent clean results you may be getting from a residue causing soapy solution. Even if you are committed to your process, consider trying Procyon and adding it as an additional service for your clients. [00:03:21.070] It's a premium service and to be able to call yourself a green cleaner or to offer that as a possible service for your customers. I know from the experience of our dedicated users that your business will increase, that you're going to increase your customer satisfaction and you're going to improve your health as well, because you will not be breathing or touching the dangerous chemicals that are contained in most cleaners. So that's about it for right now. Just we're thinking about all of you as we get through this crisis together. [00:03:59.950] Feel free to contact us either online or by phone. Jonathan Perlstein talks about how to keep you homes safe in an eco-friendly way. You're listening to the soap free podcast. The show that brings you the latest information on soap free products, trends and ideas. 00:00:17 Hello, it's JP from Procyon. This is the week of July 6th and the whole COVID virus issue has been on my mind and my heart as we've watched the numbers increase and people are concerned about how to keep their homes safe. And so it occurred to me that it was time to speak a little bit about how to keep your home safe and the greenest possible way. 00:00:46 So this morning, I took some Procyon Multipurpose Cleaner and Degreaser. This product is made with the same ingredients that are used in food processing. Extremely safe. No volatile organic compounds. So I love cleaning with it. I mixed it up and the mixture for cleaning the hard surface that I used was four ounces to the gallon. And you can of course not. You can just mix two ounces to a half gallon if you want. Make a spray bottle. I sprayed our counters. 00:01:23 We happen to have a granite counter, but it works great on Formica counters or other hard surfaces. So sprayed it down. And I used a Dobi pad to rub it in and then it used a clean towel to wipe it off. It's great at cutting grease and it's much more effective than many other cleaners you might use, including soap. 00:01:57 The one thing that we don't do in cleaning with Procyon is we don't have the same chemistry as a soap with respect to destroying the virus. So whether using soap or so Soap Free Procyon, what I like to do in our household is I do make a bleach solution. And you can choose just look right on a Clorox or other bleach bottle and you can choose whether you want to use a sanitizing or a disinfecting strength. So if you're sanitizing, it's a much lighter mix. It would be something like it could be two teaspoons to a gallon. But if you want hospital level disinfection, which is what I choose for our family, I use a full half cup in one gallon of water. 00:02:44 And I do that at a smaller portion and put it in a 16 ounce spray bottle. So once I have finished cleaning the countertops with the Multi-purpose Cleaner and Degreaser, I lightly spray the countertop with the Clorox and once again use a Dobie pad or similar. And gently move it around to make sure that the countertop is completely coated, at which point I let it sit for 10 minutes at the end of ten minutes. I take a white towel with bleach fast and wet it down and thoroughly rinse the countertops and then let them air dry. 00:03:26 We take that towel that has some bleach on it and I use it to clean all of the handles on our appliances, the poles on our cabinets and drawers. And then I'll do a fresh spray of the bleach solution and I clean all the doorknobs on the house. So that's just. I do that twice a week in our household. You can choose to do it at the interval that you feel appropriate for your risk assessment. If you're wanting to disinfect the soft surfaces in your house, I once again, we've post this on the Web site before. 00:04:04 I want to recommend a wonderful product that's made by a company, Benefect, and it's called Decon 30. This is a botanical disinfectant. It's extremely safe. And it is EPA certified to kill ninety nine point nine percent of bacteria and also viruses. It's used in hospital settings. The amazing thing about this product is it's it uses something called thymol t h y m o l, it's a derivative of the herb thyme. This product, the one I select, has a very light lemon and thyme scent. 00:04:42 You can you can blend that according to the directions and then just spray it lightly on both hard and fabric surfaces. So if you've had guests in the house, you may choose to lightly mist your upholstery with this. You can also use on the countertops, if you like, in place of bleach. So that's just a quick hit for you as we are all continuing to be wary of and fight this epidemic. All of us at Procyon wish you happiness and health, and we always welcome your questions. You're welcome to submit them either through our Web site at soapfreeprocyon.com or you're also welcome to call us at one 800-PROCYON. 00:05:34 Thanks. [00:00:01.050] - Jonathan As always, it's great to be here and have the opportunity to share some information about the importance of so free cleaning with our audience. So, number one, our number one mission is to help people live healthier lives and and also to make our environment healthier. So I'd like to share with you some common sense and practical ways in which soap free, clean is really important. First thing I'd like to share is most of us have taken a shower in the past day or two and we've watched our hair. [00:00:36.150] So the next time you're showering and your shampoo, your hair, you stop and think to yourself as you stick your head under the spigot. How much water is it taking to get my hair wet? And then you shampoo your hair and you agitate the shampoo by scrubbing your scalp and then you rinse. How much water is it taking to rinse all that soap out of your hair? It's quite a bit. And if you use that much water on your carpet or upholstery to rinse out a soapy, sticky cleaning substance. [00:01:09.870] Think about the effect of over-wetting on your precious carpet or your your furniture creates its own problems. Mold and bacteria growth and that funky wet dog smell that can remain in a damp or poorly clean carpet for days. But when you're not putting soap in, you don't need to use as much water to rinse. And so that's one of the very important things and healthy things about so frequently. No residue. And we're not over wetting the carpet or upholstery. [00:01:44.100] When we rinse it so we don't endanger ourselves with essential mold and bacteria growth and odors. A second example I like to call the washing machine lesson and washing machine runs several rinse cycles just to remove detergent and soap residue from your clothes. That's a lot of water. Another place we see that is if you've been in a hot tub or pool, often there's suds that you'll see floating on water. So this sticky soap detergent residue is being released from swimsuit fibers or clothes even after many rinse cycles. [00:02:22.340] If you were to contact your local hot tub dealer and ask them why they sell de-foamer with your hot tub, they they they know exactly why. It's not because there's foam from their other chemicals. It's because of all those swimsuits that are in there and all the residue being rinsed out. So that's why a truly clean carpet needs a soap free treatment as opposed to, once it's in, you can't get it all out. Now, why does this matter? [00:02:53.220] What does it matter if there's a little soap underfoot? Well, this is where I get back to something I've talked about in prior episodes, and that is what we like to call the barefoot challenge. Think about it. There are substances on the skin and they're absorbed into the human body. If you were to take that clove of garlic. As I've discussed before, and cut it in half and rub the wet garlic on the bottom, you're barefoot and then get dressed within 24 hours, you're going to taste garlic in your mouth, even if you haven't eaten anything for a long time. You can count on it. [00:03:27.690] Likewise chemicals of cleaning enter our bodies through exposure from what we touch, from our feet to our hands - for skin, the biggest organ in our body. So when we have a customer or family walk with bare feet on freshly clean carpet, the moisture from their feet activates the contaminant and sticky soap and detergent residues and these chemicals in the carpet can get absorbed through our feet and other skin that touches upholstery or carpeted areas right into our bloodstream. [00:04:04.780] And that can attack our neurological system or our brain. I mean, how much toxicity and poison do we need to live with? And this can contribute to cancers and other illnesses. So a really simple way to enhance your health and that of your family, your friends, is to make sure that you're using soap free products to clean these important surfaces in your home. I hope that's helpful, everybody. I hope those are some good, commonsense examples so you can understand why it is so important to use soap free products like Procyon. Soap Free Procyon's Co-owner Jonathan Pearlstein talks about the science behind soap free cleaning. 00:00:00 You're listening to the Soap Free Podcast. The show that brings you the latest information on soap free products, trends and ideas. 00:00:16 Lex, first of all, thank you for the opportunity to speak briefly today about the science behind soap free cleaning in particular. How does Soap Free Procyon work? What's it doing? Before I get into the specifics, just like to mention the importance of cleaning with as few unnatural ingredients as possible. And our founder, Ivan Day, loved to talk about how our skin is the largest organ of our body. 00:00:48 And it is super absorptive. If you were to cut a clove of garlic in half and wipe it on the bottom of your foot before you go to bed, in the morning, you'll taste garlic in your mouth. It is that absorptive right into our bloodstream. So it really matters what we are walking on and sitting on where our skin and the skin of our family's small children, in particular, because they have set a small surface area, are absorbing into their bodies. 00:01:19 A lot of components of detergents are related to the same chemicals as you might find in antifreeze or other petroleum byproducts. So the last thing we want to do is be absorbing that in our skin. And this is why we, Procyon, are so passionate about soap free, detergent free cleaning. So what is Soap Free Procyon doing? First of all, as a soap free product, we add in all cleaning products, have to wet a fiber. And wetting is it has to do with surfactants. 01:57-04-28 What is a surfactant? A surfactant is an ingredient that changes surface tension, generally reduces it. As a matter of fact, if surfactants weren't in even soap products. Soap won't mix with the water. Water will repel the soap. So there has to be a surfactant ingredient. Soap Free Procyon uses all natural surfactant and emulsifying agents. But these agents are the same type of products that are used in food production. And so literally in their component parts, edible, similar to baking soda and sea salt. 00:02:37 So you can tell. We all have jumped in the ocean and we get a little water in our mouth and we taste it. It's not harmful. We don't want to drink it because that would be harmful to our system. But as the cleaning agent, that type of product is amazing. So what does wetting mean? Wetting agents are surfactants do two things. First, their ability to reduce surface tension allows the cleaning solution to penetrate into areas where surface tension might otherwise impede its access. 00:03:10 And this facilitates the cleaning surface features, especially with finally detailed geometry. So carpet fiber, fabric fiber. This is a three dimensional geometry and it's very important that we have that surfactant to allow efficient wetting of the surface. So by lowering the surface tension, we allow the liquid to surround and penetrate between small particles and substrates, which facilitates the separation, the particle from the fabric. It's especially true in the case of ultrasonic cleaning. But most people aren't using that on their efforts. 00:03:53 The particles are free of the substrates or the fabric. They can be rinsed away. So this is why changing the surface tension is so very important. Second, wetting agents can exhibit what are called surface active properties. In simple terms, the wetting agents are formulated to be highly attractive to a surface. If the cleaning solution is more highly attracted to the substrate, then the contaminants such as oil or, let's say, a wine stain, the contaminant loses the tug of war, if you will. 00:04:28 And we can gently rinse it out with water. So the wetting properties of the cleaning solution benefit the removal of particles as well as other contaminants such as stains. So that's why wetting or the surfactant is so important. And again, it's all natural. It's an edible and an edible ingredient that we use at Soap Free Procyon. So the other action that's part of the science of soap free cleaning is emulsification. Now, soap is an effective emulsifier. 00:05:01 We've all used soap on our hands when we have greasy hands at the sink. The problem is it leaves a residues and that residue is soapy, sticky, and so it re soils actively. That is to say that if something is sticky, the dirt particle is going to adhere to it and not able to be easily vacuumed out or rinsed out. What we want to do is what we do with Soap Free Procyon is we have a natural emulsification. And so what happens is we're using a PH, that is to say, an alkalinity. 00:05:43 Let me speak briefly about the PH scale. Dirt and most contaminants in your fabric and carpets are acidic in nature. That is to say that they have a PH that is lower than seven seven being neutral, such as water. The dirt is acidic. And when you're trying to clean something that's acidic, you use the opposite, something that is. So our ingredients produce a PH right around nine and 10 depending on the product. And this is equivalent to baking soda or hand soap in terms of its PH. 00:06:22 So it's still very friendly to our bodies, not dangerous to animals or humans, but that PH level and the chemistry of the age scale is what works to help emulsify and allow us to lift out away from the fabric, the stain or the soil. And since there is no soap in it, it's residue free. And it won't be completely not sticky and will read soil much less quickly to see the inner carpet. No residues. That's going to look more beautiful and stay clean longer. 00:06:59 So I hope that wasn't too confusing for anybody, and we're always happy to answer questions as we're able, but the magic of Soap Free Procyon is in its natural chemistry, its natural ingredients. This week, we talk with Jonathan Pearlstein, Vice President of Plus Manufacturing, about the history of Soap Free Procyon. He shares the philosophy and mission behind soap free cleaning, as well as the passion and vision behind the company. [00:00:00.510] You're listening to the soap free podcast. The show that brings you the latest information on soap free products, trends and ideas. [00:00:17.780] Well, first of all, let's I want to thank you for the opportunity to share some of the back story about Procyon and its founder and what brings Bob Plaster and me, Jonathan Pearlstein, as the successor owners to this point in time where we are carrying on the process, on tradition. [00:00:39.660] First of all, so everybody knows, Ivan Day, the founder of the company, started making Procyon almost 40 years ago. Ivan had a long history as a carpet cleaner. He was a simple man. He only had about an eighth-grade education, but he had a PHD in people, he really cared about people. He was a square shooter, liked to educate people. And he was very concerned about people's health. And I can go into more about who Ivan was on future podcasts. But the important thing to know is this. Bob and I are both cousins of Ivan, Bob by blood, me by marriage. [00:01:24.700] And I first met Ivan, in about 2000, while I've known him for almost 30 years. I started working for him with Procyon about 15 years ago. I'm a recovering attorney and I have long done the corporate work and the business negotiations with Ivan. And back in about 2007, I traveled with Ivan. The ISSA show in Las Vegas. One of the largest cleaning products and equipment shows in the whole world. Fills the entire convention center. I was there to negotiate with some distributors and suppliers when I came home from those three days in Las Vegas. [00:02:08.560] But I was really struck by was the tremendous character and the passion that people in the cleaning industry bring to what they do. Everybody from the suppliers of solutions, the equipment suppliers, but most importantly, the end users, the people that are out there serving clients in their homes, cleaning every day. And it occurred to me that this was a recession proof business. No matter what's going on, the economy, things get cleaned every day. Schools, hospitals, office buildings and people's homes. [00:02:48.780] Now, Ivan was like a John the Baptist of the green cleaning industry. He was passionate about the fact that volatile organic chemicals in the air VOCs were harmful and that people should not be putting or introducing harmful chemicals into their home or their work environments. And so that's why it was so important to him. That Procyon was completely natural, using food grade ingredients, things that are used actually in processing food. People would often be stunned at shows when we would literally spray the solution in our mouth because there's nothing we don't suggest. [00:03:30.970] People do that, by the way. You can taste it. But please don't be drinking it. But it is stunning because most people wouldn't would decline. Even touching them in a chemical solution will be sprayed in our hand because we're so used to everything being so dangerous. It's ironic that cleaning chemicals have often until present day are exempt from disclosing their ingredients. So Ivan was very passionate about this. [00:04:03.520] I came home at a time when we were just about to plunge into the Great Recession that struck us in 2007. And at the time, I was having breakfast every Thursday morning with a very good friend and we were trying to decide what type of business to start with our sons who were high school sophomores at the time. This is the week after I came back from this ISSA show and we were meeting at the local golf course. Actually, the people that owned it were some legal clients of mine. Wonderful family. And there we are, seven o'clock in the morning and the family comes in. [00:04:41.200] And I saw them bemoaning the fact that they were going to have to spend almost twenty thousand dollars replacing their clubhouse and restaurant carpet because it was just so filthy. I looked at Brian over bowls of oatmeal and I said, let's start a carpet cleaning company. I went up to the car where I happen to have a bottle of Procyon's wonderful spot and stain cleaner. And I brought it in and asked the family to get a couple of clean, white bleach, free towels. [00:05:12.770] And I simply sprayed the solution on the greasiest spot in the carpet right outside the exit from the kitchen and the grease hoods where you could not even see the color or the pattern of the carpet. And after about 10 seconds, I put down the bar rag and twisted my foot in it and bang, there was all the color and all the pattern. And they were so stunned that they asked me to repeat it three times that they looked at me and said, come clean our carpet, write us a quote. [00:05:45.130] I had to tell them Lex that I'd never cleaned carpet in my life. And we'd figure it out. And so I called Ivan Day and he told us what equipment to rent. And the reason that we were so confident, knowing absolutely nothing besides the simple instructions he gave us that we could succeed was there was really no downside. There was no harm that the Procyon products could bring to that carpet. Literally, if we had pre-sprayed the entire carpet and then decided that we were too scared to proceed. It would have just dried and the residues would merely be like a light salt and it would vacuum right out. [00:06:29.540] We are a residue free product. That is to say, when you use Procyon in your in your carpet or your upholstery, when you rinse there will be no residue. And this is what distinguishes us. The biggest thing that distinguishes us from soap and detergent products that no matter what you do, will leave some residue. [00:06:55.330] That residue is the problem. As Ivan used to say, carpets ugly out before they wear out? And the reason they ugly out is that people are using soap and detergents and it adheres to the fiber. I can start to wrap this up by telling you that Ivan was fond of explaining to people that if they've ever been in a hot tub and the jets go off and there's bubbles that remain on the surface. Those aren't residues from the jets. That is the residues of soap that is in all of our bathing suits when we launder them, because no matter how many rinse cycles you put it through, there's always some soap left. [00:07:34.330] So over time, it causes dirt to adhere and it doesn't just vacuum out. So when you're using Soap Free Procyon, it reverses all that soap buildup and ultimately you will have to clean your carpets much less often because the dirt will merely vacuum out. At least, seventy five percent of it leaving your carpets clean, even between treatments with Procyon. [00:08:02.630] So to wrap up. I just want to tell you that the carpet cleaning business that we started is carried on by my good friend and he has become an absolute smash hit in the Seattle area. Once people have their carpets cleaned with soap free products, they don't want to go back because there's no odor, there's no residue. You can be confident that when you're stepping barefoot on your beautiful soft that you're not absorbing any dangerous chemicals. And my friend Brian, who continues this business now is exemplary of the thousands of independent, wonderfully hearted, passionate carpet cleaners that are out there serving people that provide better health in their homes. And both Bob and I, as the proud successor owners of the Procyon brand, are absolutely committed to making sure that this product remains available for all of those people who are dedicated to it and all of the new customers and cleaners that we can bring the Procyon brand to. [00:09:14.650] We truly believe that it makes people healthier. It makes the earth healthier and all of our lives better. [00:09:25.660] Thanks for joining us this week on the Soap Free Podcast.
