Someone removed one of Maggie's three wedding bands, and Blanca believes it fell from a pocket into the space under the driver's seat during the rush. If Blanca's theory holds, this wasn't a crime of impulse. The pajamas staged in the laundry room doorway with underclothes Maggie never wore to bed — a detail only someone who knew her daily routine would catch. The pots stored wrong in the refrigerator. The beach towel from the laundry room found in Alex's Suburban, which told Blanca he'd been in the room where the staging happened.She describes Alex arriving at the guest house, pacing, shirt half untucked, asking her to confirm he'd been wearing a Vineyard Vines shirt that day. She knew he wasn't. She later learned he'd just come from a SLED interview.Before any of that, on the day of the murders, Blanca saw a white Ford F-150 at the property she assumed was Paul's. Paul's truck was in the shop. She saw a tractor with a front-end bucket heading toward the back fields. She believes someone was preparing a concealment site. Training Won't Fix Cleaners Who Don't Care What do you do when your cleaners start getting too comfortable, moving too slowly, missing details, or acting like the job doesn't really matter anymore? Most cleaning company owners immediately think they need better SOPs, more training videos, or a thicker employee handbook. In this episode, Mike Campion talks with Noelle Nickerson about why that usually doesn't fix the real issue. The problem often isn't information. It's alignment, core values, and whether the cleaner actually wants to show up the right way. More Training Isn't Always the Answer When cleaners get sloppy, slow, or complacent, the first instinct is usually to train harder. Make another checklist. Record another video. Explain the job one more time. Mike pushes back on that idea. If someone doesn't care, more information won't suddenly make them care. Training can help the right person get better, but it won't turn the wrong person into the right fit. Before adding more systems, owners need to ask whether the cleaner is actually aligned with the company's values. Core Values Create Internal Pressure Mike explains the difference between external pressure and internal pressure. External pressure is when the owner tries to force a cleaner to behave a certain way. That usually leads to defensiveness, excuses, and resentment. Internal pressure is different. When the cleaner already shares the company's values, the conversation becomes less about "you did something wrong" and more about "is this how you really want to show up?" That kind of conversation gives the employee a chance to self-correct instead of just pushing back. Stop Judging and Start Getting Curious A huge part of the conversation is how to actually talk to a cleaner who is underperforming. Mike recommends coming in curious, not judgmental. Instead of saying, "You're too slow" or "You're doing a bad job," he shows how to connect the issue back to shared values. If the company values making money, helping out, being real, and having fun, then the conversation becomes about whether the behavior supports those values. This keeps the drama down and makes the cleaner part of the solution. Slow Cleaners Need the Same Conversation Noelle asks what to do when a cleaner has the right values but just moves too slowly. Mike walks through a role play where the cleaner is taking 30, 40, or 50 percent longer than everyone else. Instead of attacking her, he frames the conversation around reality. The job is taking too long. That affects profit. It affects the team. It affects the client experience. Then he gives the cleaner space to reflect. The goal isn't to shame them into moving faster. The goal is to find out if they're willing to own the issue and improve. The Right People Step Up or Self-Select Out One of the most useful takeaways is that these conversations force clarity. If the cleaner is aligned and wants to improve, they'll usually step up. If they aren't aligned, they'll usually reveal that too. Either way, the owner gets an answer. Mike explains that when you lead with values instead of blame, people often self-select. The right people take responsibility. The wrong people make it clear they aren't a fit. That means less drama, less guessing, and a healthier team. On this day, 15 April 1916, the newspaper of the revolutionary Industrial Workers of the World union announced the formation of its Domestic Workers Union in Denver, Colorado. Much of the history of the group was lost, but a fascinating letter by Jane Street, its secretary, was illegally seized by the Justice Department in 1917 and only discovered nearly 60 years later.She was writing to another domestic worker organiser in Tulsa, Oklahoma in which she described how they organised and took action to improve pay and conditions:"if you want to raise a job from $20 to $30. . . you can have a dozen girls answer an ad and demand $30—even if they do not want work at all. Or call up the woman and tell her you will accept the position at $20. Then she will not run her ad the next day. Don't go. Call up the next day and ask for $25 and promise to go (and don't go). On the third day she will say, 'Come on out and we will talk the matter over.' The primary teachers' union is doing my head in. This country needs fewer people like them and more people wanting to get on with it, get ahead, dream big, be bold, work harder and generally look at life in a more upbeat way. The latest problem for the union is they want facilitated bargaining. I bet they do. Unlike just about everyone else union based who has signed a deal, the primary teachers lot think they are so special and so different that the fact they can't reach a deal like everyone else must be someone else's fault. My line, and it's always been this way, is have a structure, a couple of cracks, a bit of back and forward, a best and final offer and then if you can't agree go to compulsory arbitration. Not facilitated. Make it compulsory. You argue your case, the decision is made and that's the end of that. These cases we have seen of late all go on for literally months, and all end up literally the same. In the recent cases everyone has got about 2% this year and 2% next. That is not a result that required that amount of angst and anger and walk outs and placards and TV news stories with moaning unionists talking about unfairness and shortages. What the unions have never quite gripped is social licence. The broad idea of unions representing the most vulnerable of workers is not a bad one. But like so many of these things, it's turned into an industry where hundreds of people on large salaries rely on division and upset to have a job. Happy workers do not make happy unionists and teachers especially are not vulnerable. Cleaners are vulnerable. Teachers are largely on six figure salaries. On a bang for buck basis unions don't pull their weight. They are not worth it. Stalling is not a productive tactic, and placards are last centuries technique. Compulsory arbitration – I dare them to give it a go. It's short, it's sharp, it ticks a box and we can all move on.
