This week we conclude our series we've called "Just Keep Swimming". We all find ourselves in the precarious, messy middle of this crazy year- 2020. Many of us find ourselves burned out, depressed, anxious, and uncertain about our future. We know we're called to push through despite all these emotions, but how? How do we remain faithful to Jesus when we can barely wake up and face a new day of social distancing? How do we find time for rest when we have to be constantly vigilant and entertaining to our children? How do we not burn out as we are being called to be consistent activists for social justice? Our prayer is that we can answer some of these questions and more in this series. Today, Jen Young joins us to discuss sustainable activism. Not only are we in the middle of a global pandemic, we also find ourselves in the middle of a time where injustices have finally been brought to the surface. Many of us have joined the call to be activists and allies on many fronts. We here at Woven affirm those calls, but we also want to provide resources on how sustain quality activism that doesn't lead us to burn out. How can we incrementally create change, while not giving up and fizzling out? How can we join causes and fight for justice without our push being a flash in the pan? How can we rest and rejuvenate in order to continue soldiering on? How do we approach social media in a way that brings awareness with authenticity? All of these are hard questions, and we are thankful for Jen's wisdom in helping us find some of the answers. Jen has a lot of experience in the area of sustainable activism. This week we wrap up our political series with an episode on how to argue effectively, wisely and gracefully. We tackle 10 logical fallacies often used in discourse, and we discuss how we can argue more like Jesus. Arguments and discourse are inevitable, but our conversations can still be salt and light, even as we agree to disagree. We pray this episode, and this series, empower you to not shy away from the hard conversations of our time, but to lean into them confidently and winsomely.  Resources Mentioned: Logical Fallacies article from Perdue University  How To Argue Like Jesus Book A Gentle Answer Book

For Part 2 of our political series, we decided we all needed to return to Poli-Sci 101. Many times, in election years, we get into heated arguments about politics or fall into despair, forgetting basic facts about our government and political system. This week, Chris Cochran (Rebecca C's husband), joins Woven to re-educate us on topics such as the party system, checks and balances, how a bill becomes a law, and the electoral college. Chris holds a degree in political science and works in government administration. We pray that renewed knowledge will help us all to have not only graceful but also educated political conversations in our communities.

This week we kick off a three-part political series. As we sit in uncertain times, in a divided nation, approaching another election cycle, we want to offer a series that doesn't delve into specific candidates or platforms, but into how we can be grace-filled in our political conversations. We want to be women who don't shy away from the hard discussions, but we want to have them in love.   We are so excited that our first guests in the series are Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers from Pantsuit Politics. The Pantsuit Politics podcast is "a podcast for real conversations that help us understand politics, democracy, and the news – while still treating each other like thoughtful human beings." They strive "to create an informative and grace-filled space by respecting each other as people who are sharing insights into the issues and our hearts. Grace is something that everyone deserves, and it allows for greater depth in our conversations and connections." We are so grateful that they shared their insight and words of wisdom on creating a grace-filled space as we delve into the hard topics swirling around in our culture. We at Woven are committed to talking about the hard stuff, but doing it in away that invites everyone to be apart of the conversation.  Want to learn more about Pantsuit Politics? We are all numbing out in various ways, and that is OKAY. But, we also think this discussion is still relevant in many ways as we grapple with this new way of life. On the surface, none of them are bad or sinful, but when they take the place of God as our object of worship or control, that's when they can cross into unhealthy territory. Thankfully, God's grace is abundant as we struggle to put these idols in their proper place. ------------------------------------------------------------- Woven is almost 100!
