Feelings are important, but navigating difficult ones is hard. What do we do with the complicated emotions that often arise in life? Feelings that we've been taught we shouldn't feel as Christians? A lot of us push them down and pretend they don't matter. Others of us get stuck in the pain. But the Bible suggest a better way: "Pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge" (Psalm 62:8). How do we do that? I'm so glad you asked! Anjuli's Paschall's book, Feel: A Collection of Liturgies Offering Hope for Every Complicated Emotion, has been such a gift to me. And I absolutely LOVE our tender and raw conversation. We were both in tears as we talked about the disappointments and hurts that we've faced. Anjuli assures us that rather than tidying up our emotions, we can be real and raw with God as well. Her book helps us Key Takeaways: Emotions aren't good or bad - they're simply part of being human. Rather than denying our emotions, they can be an indicator light for the places God wants to heal. God gives us permission to feel - for we serve an emotional God! We have a Savior who not only understands our feelings, He invites us to bring them to Him. We can be honest with God and ourselves - rather than being overwhelmed by emotions, we can curious as we process them with Jesus. For they often reveal what God wants to heal. This is such an important conversation, you guys. And this book could literally change your life. Stuffing and denying our emotions only makes them come out sideways in anxiety, depression and issues with our health. How much better to bring them all to Jesus. Anjuli's book helps us do just that! Our guest is Anjuli Paschall, author of the new book "Feel: A Collection of Liturgies Offering Hope for Every Complicated Emotion." We have a conversation about the power and importance of our emotions, and how to engage with them in a healthy, transformative way. Anjuli has such an insightful and nuanced perspective on this topic. She talks about how she grew up in a Christian culture that often viewed certain emotions as "bad" or something to be suppressed. But she's come to see how crucial it is to name, feel, and bring our full range of emotions to God. We discuss how language and culture shape the way we experience and express our feelings. Anjuli shares powerful examples of how simply naming an emotion can be the first step towards healing and growth. And she walks us through the "liturgies" or guided prayers in her book - ways to authentically bring our messy, complicated emotions to the Lord. Our emotions are so central to the human experience, and to our spiritual lives and Anjuli offers wisdom and practical tools for embracing the full breadth of what we feel, and allowing that to draw us closer to God and one another. I think you'll find this discussion really insightful and helpful. So join us. Anjuli Paschall grew up in San Diego. She studied psychology at Point Loma Nazarene University and earned her graduate degree from Talbot Seminary in spiritual formation and soul care. She has been married for close to twenty years to her childhood friend Sam. Together, they founded Sojourn and Sage, a retreat and residency home for the weary. They have five beautiful children: Manoah, Samuel, Noelle, Hannaly, and Mea. Anjuli is the author of Stay and Awake. As a pastor's wife, writer, and spiritual director, she learned that feelings are the pathway to prayer. She loves chai tea, golden hour, and the color orange.Anjuli's Book:FeelJoin Our Patreon for Early Access and More: PatreonConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@allnations.usGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. God created our emotions. Why is it so hard, then, to feel them, to know what to do with them? Author Anjuli Paschall and AllMomDoes host Julie Lyles Carr discuss how to take feelings to God, how to pray from what we're feeling, and how the complexities of our emotions can bring us closer to God.Show Notes: https://bit.ly/4en8biW
Your emotions are not your enemy. They are a gift. Feelings are messy, and we all have different strategies for dealing with them—usually controlling, avoiding, or indulging them. But what if you allowed yourself to follow your feelings in prayer instead of trying to run from them? In today's episode, Anjuli Paschall helps you move from being stuck in your feelings to a place of peace by: · Identifying and giving you words for every emotion--the good, the confusing, and the complicated--helping you name exactly what you feel · Offering you 75 prayers to pray--one for every feeling · Providing scripture for every emotion Her book Feel is a resource that will guide you throughout your day and offer you hope, wisdom, and courage through some of the most challenging seasons of your life. Instead of navigating around your feelings, allow them to guide you toward healing, wholeness, and abiding connection with God. Then, you will begin to see how feelings are a doorway into intimacy with a Savior who loves you. I am so excited to welcome my friend Anjuli Paschall to my show! Anjuli is a real life friend of mine and this episode reflects that. We laugh and cry together easily, share stories, and if we had cups of tea or coffee in our hands, it would feel like you had joined us as we hung out together in a coffee shop. One of the things I appreciate so much about Anjulu is that she doesn't try to fix everything with some cliché sentiment. Instead she listens intently and asks how I feel, thus inviting me to take my feelings to God instead of pushing them away. She is also not afraid to be vulnerable and through that she invites me into intimacy with her again and again. She is the kind of friend you want on the other end of the phone, text or across the table. Anjuli is a fellow author. She and I have walked through writing 3 books together! Her latestes book is called Feel—a Collection of Liturgies Offering Hope for Every Complicated Emotion. This book is like having a conversation with Anjuli. You'll feel seen, heard, and loved as you go through the book. It is a beautiful book and unlike anything I have ever seen. Our conversation will give you a glimpse of the book and all it has to offer. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! "Life doesn't have to be a battle. We don't have to fight to get ahead or fear falling behind. Instead, we can surrender. We can let go of life on our terms. As fear rises, we can refuse to put on our boxing gloves and instead lean on Jesus. I usually deal with my fear by using my own strength. When I sense my soul tensing up for a fight, I've learned to listen to the invitation to relax. I can enter my fear with Jesus. Like a litany, I live these words: soul, be still."Leave a comment on this excerpt by Anjuli Paschall: https://incourage.me/?p=237102--You don't have to keep trying to muster up more grit, willpower, or wisdom on your own. "Jesus came to us. He lowered Himself and came into our world, but He also continues to come into the caves we often hide ourselves away in. Christ came to lift us out of our guilt. He came to pour light into the darkness. The Christmas cure is to let the love of Christ fill your loneliness, cover your shame, and come into your guilt. You are free. With the increasing number of nurse practitioners, we find a comparable increase in malpractice suits in which they're involved. Rebecca Paschall, who is both a nurse practitioner and a legal nurse consultant, shares crucial information for LNCs evaluating the work of nurse practitioner charting and liability. While her comments focus mainly on office settings, Rebecca describes how often valuable information may come from those who observed medical errors being played out in hospital settings. A statement by a spouse, roommate, or also a staff member may provide essential documentation in a case. In evaluating an NP's documentation for office visits, it's essential to read the notes thoroughly. Using the example of severe heartburn, Rebecca describes the optimal steps to take to exclude other possible diagnoses. What kinds of tests are done? Is the patient advised to go to the ER under certain conditions? Is a follow up visit scheduled? The LNC also wants to see whether the NP is relying solely on standard templates. How much detail does the practitioner put into the notes? Do various elements of the notes agree with each other? This podcast is filled with critical information not only about what an LNC needs to look for in medical documentation but also how careful, thorough, and accurate charting can protect an NP from legal action. Learn more about Nurse Practitioner Charting and Liability Analysis - Rebecca Paschall How can an LNC best handle omissions and also conflicting reports? "So when I feel agitation boiling up with me, I find ways to release it that won't cause harm. I find ways to get what I feel out of me. Sometimes I release my anger with words, deep breaths, or shouts in the shower. On good days, I invite others into my anger as well. Recently, my youngest child was having a fit. Nurse practitioners (NPs) play an essential role in primary care and other medical settings. Increasingly, they are being named as defendants in malpractice suits. Rebecca Paschall, who both works as an NP and a legal nurse consultant, shares her experience in these areas of expertise. She learned that her LNC work deepens her diagnostic and analytical abilities in her clinical work. Rebecca also finds many opportunities to instruct other clinicians on her job about best medical practices. She finds that the most common medical areas in primary care involve failure and delay in diagnosis and misdiagnosis. Within that umbrella, cancer, diabetes, sepsis, and cardiac issues assume primary importance. Rebecca believes that a problematic case requires discussion with other clinicians and often consultation with the supervising physician. Also, Rebecca emphasizes that it can be essential to get the physicians to state circumstances in which they want to be consulted or to see diagnostic test results and other critical data. This for her is part of an overall emphasis on good communication among all employees in a primary care setting. Nurse practitioners who want to pursue LNC work will find many opportunities in this field. I know you will learn much from this glimpse into this world. "I had to give others the right to be wrong about me. I had to let go of the need to be seen as fully good in everyone's eyes. I released my reputation. I placed myself in the judgment seat. What was my defense? I am a child of God. Period. Though judgements were cast in my direction, it turned out that this seat was not a seat of execution, but a throne of grace. This is where God found me. This is where I found Him. This is where slow healing started."Leave a comment for Anjuli: https://incourage.me/?p=233816--It may be July, but we're already dreaming of Christmas. Why? By Adam Turteltaub Contract lifecycle management has grown to be an increasingly critical issue for healthcare providers. Staffing issues, shrinking margins and changing regulatory requirements are all adding to the challenge, report David Paschall, CEO, and Stephanie Haywood, SVP of Sales and Client Engagement at Ntracts. Pursuing a contract lifecycle management strategy, they report, can help alleviate these issues by reducing the number of days a contract spends being reviewed, increase transparency and help the organization adopt standardized language and processes to ensure greater adherence to internal policies. It can also reduce the number of contracts that get auto renewed by mistake, are not renewed when they should be or overlap needlessly with other agreements. Listen in to learn more about how adopting a contract lifecycle management strategy can bring greater efficiency and a host of other benefits to your organization.

Today, we're thrilled to welcome new voices to the (in)courage podcast! We thank Grace P. Cho for sharing her gifts with us this past year, and we welcome Rachel Marie Kang as our new narrator. --"Love that comes from weakness and emptiness might be the purest kind of love I can offer. When I think about love this way, it makes the cross mean so much more. Christ didn't die from a place of strength, but from a place of humility. He didn't die going out swinging. He died spread out and surrendered. He didn't die from a place of fullness. He died empty and poured out. God emptied Himself to be with us. We empty ourselves to be with others. Empty is enough."Leave a comment for Anjuli: https://incourage.me/?p=231506--The spring issue of DaySpring's Everyday Faith magazine is now on newsstands! "I can enter my fear with Jesus. I usually deal with my fear by using my own strength. But, Scripture says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). When I sense my soul tensing up for a fight, the invitation is for me to relax. I can enter my fear with Jesus. Like a litany, I live these words: soul, be still."Leave a comment for Anjuli: https://incourage.me/?p=229847--This week we're celebrating the launch of Create in Me a Heart of Wisdom by Grace P. Today we're talking about the spiritual discipline of paying attention and awakening to God's love for you. Through this series on spiritual health, I want us – women of God and sisters in Christ – to be healthy and to shed who we are not and the false narratives that don't serve us well so we can live and move and have our being in freedom and grace. I pray that we will lean – not into the discipline, for the discipline isn't the point –but that we would lean into the God who is actively shaping us and that we will learn to love who we are becoming. In this episode, Anjuli shares: How to pay attention is different seasons How to let people in when you're terrified And what it looks like for Jesus to be with you Key Quotes “The way in which I was doing the spiritual disciplines was totally killing me inside.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The thought of stopping and being alone in a cabin for three weeks terrified me. And what terrified me the most was being with myself.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “When we stay with ourselves, and we stay with God staying with us, that is the living water we are thirsty for.”- Author Anjuli Paschall “When we stop and open our hearts, it's messy.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The invitation the Lord is giving you is to stay because that's where the Lord is. He is with you.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The real hope with any discipline is to not get good at the discipline but to become wise and well in the thing you want to grow in.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “What do you see? When you look in the mirror and look at yourself, what's there?” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Paying attention is actually receiving the life you've been given.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Paying attention looks like being really honest with myself and being really honest with others.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Trust the journey Jesus has you on.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “The capacity for you to be vulnerable is dependent on the other person's capacity and your experience of their reliability.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Now I care very little about someone perceiving me as a good mom. I care about being the mom my kids need.” - Author Anjuli Paschall “Parenting is a tender balance between love and freedom.” - Author Anjuli Paschall As Mentioned in the Podcast The FCC requires that I tell you that I'm an Amazon Affiliate, which means I earn a bit of commission on each sale. Mom of five, writer, speaker, spiritual director, Anjuli Pasquall, knew how it felt to always be running after a more-and a later-on and someday-I'll-catch-up kind of life and she knew it wasn't how God wanted life to be— for her, for anyone. She began a quest to find out what it meant to live fully awake—to God's presence, to love, to connection. And she wrote a gem of a book about it.
