Send us a textHow do we rebuild trust in vaccines and public health—and why aren't facts alone enough? In this episode, hosts Rebecca Alvania, PhD, MA, MPH, and Robert H. Hopkins, Jr., MD, talk with infectious disease expert William Schaffner, MD, about vaccine confidence, public trust, and the growing impact of misinformation. Drawing on decades of experience, Schaffner explains why effective science communication must reach hearts as well as minds to change behavior. The conversation explores vaccine hesitancy, social media's role in shaping beliefs, the importance of listening to patients, and why public health education must start early. A thoughtful discussion for clinicians, public health professionals, and anyone concerned about the future of prevention. Show notesA longtime advocate for disease prevention, Schaffner is a trusted science communicator whose clarity, perspective, and calm guidance have helped shape public health conversations for decades. He is a professor of Preventive Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and he has worked extensively on the effective use of vaccines in adult populations. He previously served as NFID president, medical director, liaison to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and host of the NFID podcast. In 2013, NFID honored him with the John P. Utz Leadership Award in recognition of his extraordinary service to NFID and the infectious disease community. Follow NFID on social media

Tyler Schaffner grew up around horses and cattle in South Dakota. He realized quickly that school and the trades weren't for him so he decided to come to Texas to be more involved with cattle and horses. Tyler has never met a stranger and was able to quickly build a network. With that and his work ethic he got presented some great opportunities. He's been heavily involved in the roping cattle industry and the horse industry and more recently in the yearling business. »
Biographical films can be incredible ... that is if they delve deep into the main protagonist's character based on their past. Their influences growing up drive who they are and why they became the important figure, we are watching being analyzed on screen. In 1970, there was a larger-than-life war hero, who for better or worse was a strong force for the American effort in defeating the Nazis in WWII. However, George S. Patton ruffled more than a few feathers during the last few years of the war. Franklin J. Schaffner directed this Best Picture winner, Patton, illustrating this macho, no-holds-barred general who helped win a war, but made many enemies on BOTH sides of the battlefield. George C. Scott's legendary performance is what people remember about this Oscar-winning film. However, there is a lot more that can be analyzed about this classic. After 55 years, does this film still hold up? Does it still deserve the same praise it received when it was first released? Listen to film critic Jack Ferdman's take on it as he analyzes everything about Patton, as well as many other films from that year, and hear which film he gives his Rewatch Oscar of 1970.Download, listen, and share ALL Rewatching Oscar episodes.SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW Rewatching Oscar:Website: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comApple Podcasts/iTunesSpotifyGoogle PodcastsiHear RadioPodchaserPodcast AddictTuneInAlexaAmazon Overcasts Podcast Addict Player FMRSS Feed: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1815964.rssWebsite: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comSocial Media Links: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSkyShare your thoughts and suggestions with us through:Facebook Messanger or email us atjack@rewatchingoscar.com or jackferdman@gmail.comMusic by TurpacShow Producer: Jack FerdmanPodcast Logo Design: Jack FerdmanMovie (audio) trailer courtesy of MovieClips Classic TrailersMovie (audio) clips courtesy of YouTubeSupport us by downloading, sharing, and giving us a 5-star Rating. David Cohn, MD, described one of his goals for patients of the James. “When a patient and a family say we didn't want to be diagnosed with cancer and we didn't want to be at the James Cancer Hospital, but after this experience there's nowhere else we'd rather be and that is the end result of empathetic care and compassion in the delivery of that care,” said Cohn, the interim chief executive officer and the medical director of the James. In this episode, Cohn and John Schaffner, MBA, the director of coaching at Ohio State's Fisher College of Business, described a new coaching program for James physicians that's part of the Physician Wellness Program. This coaching focuses on compassion and helps physicians better understand their careers and goals and utilize compassion when working with their colleagues and patients. “It's not that our physicians had problems, they're exceptional, it was rather, how can we support our people so they can flourish,” Cohn said, adding this type of leadership initiative was welcomed by his team. Schaffner, who leads the James coaching program, explained his definition of empathy. “There's cognitive empathy, that's noticing someone else's emotions; there's empathetic concern, which is an emotional reaction to someone else; and this empathy plus action equals compassion.” There are currently 15 certified coaches who work with the 240 attending physicians of the James. “I love working with physicians,” Schattner said. “They're smart and ambitious, understand the idea of flourishing and they do the work.” Some of these physicians, he added, are new to leadership positions and coaching can help them communicate better and build comradery. The coaching program is new and funded through a philanthropic donation to the James. Cohn said the program is designed to help each physician be the best version of themselves they can be with the overreaching goal of delivering the best-possible care to James patients. “Everything we do is driven by the delivery of care to our patients and this is another process to help us get there,” he said.

In ihrem aktuellen Buch «Erschöpft?

Emanuel Schaffner was a farmer who owned a small tract of land about ten miles from Harrisburg. Middle aged and short of stature, Schaffner was neither particularly bright in intellect, nor particularly handsome in appearance. In fact, some said he was a downright repulsive and repugnant little man-- and that was before Emanuel Schaffner, who was sent to prison in 1872, earned his reputation as one of the most despicable villains Dauphin County has ever seen. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/paoddities/support

Dr. Schaffner is a board-certified naturopathic physician who focuses on “mystery illnesses”—she's helped thousands of patients recover from chronic, complex conditions.
