The Cinnamon Cinephile sat down with producer, director, screenwriter and editor, Tia Cherie Polite-Jones, owner of Black Rose Dagger Films as she and her cast and crew prepare for the 48 Hour Film Project - the Baltimore version. Tia and her team have just 48 hours to write, shoot, edit and submit their four to seven minute short film. But here's the kicker...they won't know anything and they can't start writing until everyone gets their prompt, genre, and a single line of dialogue. Then they have 48 hours to make the film. The 48 Hour Film Project started in 2001 and has turned into a global phenomenon. Selected final films will be screened August 9th at 7:00 pm at the Charles Theater in Baltimore. This week, we've got a special treat for you all. The past month, we've been working with The 48 Hour Film Project - Pittsburgh, the city chapter of the world wide contest of filmmakers who all compete on a given weekend to produce a short film from the ground up within 48 hours based on a provided character, prop, and line of dialogue. This year, we assisted in hosting a live stream for their wrap party where we interviewed tons of local filmmakers to see just how their weekend in the filmmaking crucible ended up. Special thanks to City Producer PJ Gaynard, JP Lavoie, Bryan Chemini, the staff at Riley's Pour House in Carnegie, and of course the filmmakers we spoke to who shared their stories with us. Krk and Kris are on the road in Montana this week recruiting for the Montana 48 Hour Film Project. They recount the tales of meeting some really interesting people in Hamilton and Missoula, and then a random encounter with a 5 year old girl ends up becoming an introduction to a likely participant in this year's event!
In this episode, Krk basically laughs through the entire episode because that is what he and his buddy, Dima Levanchuk do when they get together. On the serious side, they discuss how Dima went from a career in math and science at Boeing to doing the 48 Hour Film Project, then working at pop culture phenomenon, Funko, and eventually on to AWS at Amazon. There's also talk about the seriously goofy films they made together in the 48HFP sibling event, The Four Points Film Project. And... And... Krk geeks out over the fact that Dima introduced him to Charlie Benante, Frank Bello, and Mark Osegueda of Anthrax and Death Angel respectively. Kirk and Indra have a long chat with Nisse Eimers, a Dutch filmmaker and frequent 48 Hour Film Project participant. They go into the depths of why people participate in the 48HFP. Do the awards really matter? How does a competitive nature fit into the equation? They also dissect why it seems that the Dutch 48 Hour filmmakers are always making their films at such a high level compared to other countries... along with France of course. And it's not necessarily what you might think! They also discuss the importance of music in film and how it completes the magic.
