Jeffrey Lichtman dives into the art of trial summation, sharing how a line from a 1977 Robbie Benson film unexpectedly found its way into the John Gotti, Jr. summation. Bottom line: the more that's in your brain, the more that can come out — and help you — at unexpected times.Next, Jeff unpacks the bail denial of Sean "Diddy" Combs, highlighting the challenges of defending a high-profile client when the media circus and public perception play a heavier role than the facts of the case. From alleged jailhouse rule-breaking to a judge unwilling to take the risk, Jeff explains why this outcome isn't surprising — and how defense lawyers need to be careful not to help the judge hurt their client. Finally, a blistering critique of Joe Biden: the President was spotted with a book by an anti-Israel provocateur while Americans remain hostages in Gaza. Jeff connects Biden's public nod to Palestinian propaganda with the surge of anti-Semitism in North America and abroad, calling out the administration's complicity in enabling global Jew-hate.

A selection of excerpts from the texts Tamhidát and Laváyeh by Ayn-al-Qużāt Hamadānī . Translated by Ali Yansori - with thanks to Ali for gifting this beautiful translation. Ayn-al-Qużāt Hamadānī (1098–1131) (Persian: عین القضات همدانی), was a Persian jurisconsult, mystic, philosopher, poet and mathematician who was executed by the Seljuk rulers at the age of 33 on charges of heresy. He is one of the many overlooked figures of the pre-modern Islamic tradition. Born in Hamadhan in Seljuk Iran to a family of prominent Shāfi'ī scholars, by the age of 20 he had mastered Arabic, Persian, jurisprudence, ḥadīth, Qur'ān, poetry, kalām (dialectical theology), philosophy and various strands of mystical thought. A student of Aḥmad al-Ghazālī he became an eminent scholar and mystic in his own right, composing various works in both Persian and Arabic, the most important of which were Tamhīdāt and the Zubdat al-Haqāʾiq fī Kashf al-Khalāʾiq. Much of his mystical philosophy was focused on the concept of divine love. For Ep. 173, Susie Boutry (@NovelVisits) joins me as we circle back to one of our favorite topics — niching down our reading into micro genres! In this special Circle Back, we revisit some previously shared micro genres from our two past Micro Genres We Love episodes and introduce two additional micro genres from a Patreon bonus episode not yet heard on the big show! We give examples that define each micro genre for us and share new books we've read that fit into these niches. Plus, we share books for that DIDN'T work for us. This episode is full of over 100 books for you to add to your TBR! This post contains affiliate links through which I make a small commission when you make a purchase (at no cost to you!). The ink on the campaign posters barely had time to dry. Yet, France's frenzied snap legislative election races are nearly over. President Macron hoped to clear the air with his shock dissolution of parliament but after the far-right's unprecedented surge and so many unholy alliances and tactical withdrawals ahead of the runoffs, good luck predicting the makeup of the next National Assembly. One certainty, Marine Le Pen's National Rally will boast the most seats. But how many? How close or how far from an outright majority? After the highest turnout in decades in the first round, what will voters think of their options come Sunday? And who do they want to govern France?Yes, the ballots will have been counted but the horse-trading will be far from over. Can a nation that historically prefers Bonapartist figureheads to Nordic-style policy compromises try its hand at grand coalitions or technocratic arbiters? Or should we brace ourselves for a whole new level of uncertainty? Produced by Alessandro Xenos, Rebecca Gnignati and Juliette Brown.
Anne Glover, co-founder and CEO of Amadeus Capital Partners, discusses the ways that the tech investment scene has changed since her firm launched in the late 1990s, how tech started as a niche sector but has since started to encompass everything, why AI hype is valid but there's more to it than just generative AI, and what the UK needs to do to shake its history of not scaling tech companies like the US can. Glover co-founded Amadeus Capital Partners in 1997 alongside Hermann Hauser. The firm generally backs deep tech firms, with major portfolio companies including Graphcore, Improbable and Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Glover discusses how the firm these days is particularly keen on areas including quantum computing, health tech and cybersecurity.
This is a long overdue chat with one of the most respected riders in the Australian amateur ranks. When not competing at faraway picnic meetings, Ricky Blewitt can be found riding trackwork at Narromine before starting his full time job as the Narromine Turf Club's track manager. The busy horseman speaks highly of the first class country racecourse. Ricky confirms that he rides eight or more horses in trackwork most mornings for his partner Kylie Kennedy. He says Kylie competes mainly at professional meetings but occasionally takes a horse to the picnics. The top horseman speaks highly of Kylie's father, former jockey and successful trainer Wayne Collison. Ricky says he has no problem with the 62 kg minimum weight at the picnic meetings. The jockey declares his love for the business and his willingness to drive long distances to race meetings. He talks of early days in Queanbeyan and makes the surprise admission that he had a fear of horses in childhood days. Ricky recalls his friendship with a local apprentice who went on to Gr 1 success as a jockey. He looks back on a deal he made with his parents regarding schooling, and his first job with local trainer Amanda Langlar. Rick looks back on his transfer to respected trainer Arch Turner and the nasty trackwork fall that dimmed his enthusiasm for a while. He talks of his debut as an amateur rider and the thrill of a win at just his second ride. Ricky says he has no idea of the number of premierships he's won largely because of inadequate records. He talks of his wonderful run in Picnic Cups all over the state. He looks back on the first of his three Bong Bong Cup successes. He got a huge thrill to win his second Bong Bong Cup in the colours made famous by champions like Saintly and So You Think. Ricky's third win at Bong Bong gave him the biggest kick of all. He was chuffed to ride a horse called Frenzied for the Waterhouse/Bott combination. Both trainers were there on the day. The jockey says the Bong Bong Cup meeting is very different to days gone by. He talks of the famous Golden Triangle picnic circuit in the state's north west- three meetings in two weeks which all attract huge crowds. Rick pays tribute to Moree trainer Peter Sinclair who's given him great support over many years. He says the Sinclair trained Track Flash is almost certainly the best picnic galloper he's ridden. Ricky has no doubt the Picnic Cups are almost TAB standard races these days. He says the influence of Racing NSW has resulted in better maintained picnic race tracks. He reviews some of the many picnic tracks he's patronised over the year, with special mention of the popular Bedgerabong course. Ricky says he's been relatively lucky regarding injuries throughout his career but has unhappy memories of one three horse crash at Tomingley in 2019. He and Mick Gray sustained multiple injuries, while Michael Hackett had to call time on a successful career. He pays tribute to two great picnic jockeys who helped shape his career. Rick has had many memorable days of race riding. He recalls a couple of red letter days at Booroowa and Tottenham. I've had several requests to present a podcast with Ricky Blewitt. It was a delight to catch up with a true gentleman of the amateur riding ranks.
Hello vault dwellers and bug lovers! On today's episode of Arthro-Pod, the gang dips their toes into the cultural zeitgeist to talk about the video game/television show "Fallout" and more specifically about the horrible mutated arthropods that exist in that universe. Tune in to hear about the biology of giant "radroaches", feel the sting of the "stingwing", and maybe befriend your own mothman. It's a lot of fun to look at the entomological basis and designs of these critters and hash out which of them are the best from our buggy perspective. Once again in 2024, journalists need to justify treating Trump as a deadly bubonic plague, an impending Hitler. Treating him as one side of an election is dangerous when he is the End of Democracy. Then they claim they only have a bias in favor of Truth. Yes, they're totally not favoring the Democrats with this foam-flecked coverage.

Ep. 736 - Back after a week away, Craig Grialou enlists the help of Paul Calvisi to go over everything that happened at the start of the new league year. And there was a lot. Seven players re-signed, seven players signed, one player was acquired and there were a handful of good-byes. The discussion began with GM Monti Ossenfort's focus on the defense, specifically the defensive line; an edge rusher has not been signed yet so might the Cardinals be waiting for the draft, and if so, what does that mean when it comes to the fourth overall pick? Also, backup quarterback was addressed, and if there was still a question about Kyler Murray's status within the building, there isn't anymore. Plus, Aaron Donald retired; and what's this, Paul got a dog over the weekend?!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What a month it has been - at least for Lair! Lots of trips to Edmonton, Winnipeg, Spike, and -finally- one more in Calgary. Today is Sine Die, the last day of the 2023 legislative session. In this episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Politically Georgia podcast, AJC political insiders Greg Bluestein and Patricia Murphy give you a preview of some of the major legislation lawmakers must pass and send to the Governor's desk. Our insiders look at the Senate measure Governor Brian Kemp is endorsing to provide funding for private school vouchers and explain why the effort has momentum like never before. Plus, hear why a renewed push to legalize sports betting in Georgia has stalled out in the Senate. We'll also cover the measure to create a state board with powers to investigate or even oust district attorneys and solicitors general they accuse of skirting their duties. Thursday, March 30th, at 5:00 p.m., we will host our first ever Politically Georgia live virtual podcast taping. Atlanta Journal-Constitution subscribers are invited to attend. How are you feeling? We're in the home stretch of the end of 2022, soon to be launching into the new year, and a lot of entrepreneurs are feeling… Busy. Frenzied. Overwhelmed. Add the holidays on top of that, and it's easy to see how so many are experiencing an energetic depletion. If any of that feels familiar, you're not alone. I recorded this week's brand new podcast episode & compiled the accompanying notes below just for you. In today's new post, I'm sharing how you can set yourself up to win the rest of the year and hit the ground running in 2023 without the frenzy. Read on to discover how to achieve more by actually doing less, working with your energy instead of against it. First, let's check in with where you're at. I'd like you to pause for a moment before proceeding. Take a deep breath, hold it at the top, then let it go. Take a few more, if it feels good, releasing any stuck energy and re-centering your body. Now - from this neutral, grounded state - how are you feeling? Really, truly - I want you to reflect honestly. Perhaps even journal out a few lines. What kind of energy are you operating from at the moment? We're in the home stretch of 2022. Are you feeling the need to rush to complete the things you have yet to accomplish this year? Are you furiously planning for next year, feeling hectic and frenzied, like there's just not enough time for it all? How are the holidays affecting you? This season can also bring up some complicated emotions. There is a lot going on and our bodies can only handle so much. If you're experiencing overwhelm, you're not alone. Adjusting your state of being I'm glad you're here and taking the time to stop + reflect because - and this is important - big achievements and growth do NOT come from a frenzied state of energy. The top entrepreneurs who get ahead and will be set up to win in 2023 will do so by adjusting their state of being to exactly who & what they want to be. They figure out how to regulate their bodies and minds so they can create from cool, calm, collected energy. They deeply understand that success frequency matters. The move forward with intention. The power in setting a daily intention Intentions are powerful stuff. They make things happen. Intentions can and will create transformation in your life and business. When you set an intention for the day, you activate a part of your brain that then searches, filters, and sorts information in a way that allows you to have a one track path to achieve that intention. Your intention for the day can be simple. It could be that you want to focus on being extra kind to everyone you encounter. Or it could be that you want to show love to the members of your family. Your intention could be that you want to finalize the details of a project you've been working on. Or it could be that you want to show up and make an impact in your Instagram stories. Whatever it is, the minute you set your intention, your brain starts to look for ways to help you make it happen. You approach your day with your energy focused on what you want to achieve. But it's also true that if you don't set an intention, and you just roll into your day, your brain isn't working to make anything specific happen. And, most likely, a lot of goodness that could happen simply doesn't happen. How to incorporate intention setting into your daily routine I always wanted to be a person who set a daily intention but for a while, I couldn't get it to stick. I would forget to do it and it wasn't happening for me consistently. So, I decided to use the technique of habit stacking to help incorporate intention setting into my morning routine. Each and every morning, I prepare and drink my cacao. It's a ceremony I treat myself to to calm my nervous system. Starting the day from this grounded place energetically compounds and helps me approach everything that comes later from a centered space. Because this cacao habit is already a solid fixture in my routine - I never miss it - it is the perfect thing to stack a new habit onto. Habit stacking is really powerful because you simply connect your new desired habit onto an existing one. So now, I drink my cacao and then set my intention for the day. Just like that, my brain now thinks: cacao → intention. Do you have something similar you do to center yourself each morning? Or perhaps it's simply a morning routine you never skip on like brushing your teeth. Whatever habit you choose, stack your intention setting onto it. Intentions are how you achieve more, yet do less This is a busy time of year. That's a fact. But just because you want to get more done doesn't mean you need to hop on the frenzy train. If you get smarter with how you work with your time and energy, you can do so much less and still meet your goals. This means creating intentions, and making a plan to work with your energy, not against it. I have a free download that I just created to help you with this. You can find it at jengitomer.com/winning. It's a whole new planner that helps you map out your day/week/month around your personal life, your business commitments, the holiday social scene, and your cycle. It's how I plan, and I'm giving it to you for free. Use it to set your tone, vibration, and frequency to end the year on an energetic high note. Here's to you winning the rest of 2022!

Apologies for my hard shift into holiday-mode, but this episode is like a half hour emergency PSA. The sooner it's out there, the better. My blood pressure climbs at the thought of Black Friday shopping. I can't imagine getting up at 5am, then wrestling my way through crowds for a deal. It terrifies me. Could be because I'm short, or crowds make me anxious, or both. Yes, there are sales to be had and this year, more than most, we need to stretch our dollars, but I wanted to bring you some other ways to spend your time that Friday that might feed your soul instead of crush it. I'll offer some ways to steal deals on those gifts you are determined to buy without the hassle of the crowds and while making the most of every penny.I. IntroductionII. Origins of Black FridayIII. Some of her fondest childhood memories involve long afternoons at the library and then reading late into the night. More than ten years ago, she began journaling about the books she read and turned that passion into writing about books. Her first forays were as a guest reviewer on a friend's blog, but she soon realized she wanted to be reviewing and talking about books on a blog of her own. From there, Novel Visits was born. That was in 2016 and, though the learning curve was steep, she loves being a part of the book community. Novel Visits focuses on new novel reviews (print and audio), previews of upcoming releases, and musings on all things bookish.
