Re-released Episode- Military Life Community Connectors EXPLAINED PART 1 Maybe you have heard about Military Life Community Connectors, or maybe you want to know more about them. This episode is all about who they are, what they do, and why I felt there was a need for the Military Life Community Connector Program. No one quite gets you like a fellow Defence Partner, but finding and connecting with other partners can be both tricky and nerve-wracking! It took me 10 years to find a Defence Partner friend. Partly because I didn't realise what I was missing out on. Partly because I was downright scared to step forward to connect. Partly because I was reluctant to put my hand up for support. Partly because I wasn't given the opportunity to connect and belong in my community. So, when I finally found what I didn't even know I was missing, that connection and support only fellow Defence Partners can give, I felt a weight lift off of me. I caught my breath. I felt like I belonged and wanted every Defence Partner to have what I had found. That's why I created the ML Community Connector Program and where Community Connectors come in! I wanted to give every Defence Partner the opportunity to CONNECT and BELONG in their community just like I had because I knew in my heart what a huge difference it made having Defence Partner friends in your corner who just got you and defence life. ML Community Connectors play a vital role for Defence Partners by bringing them together to create meaningful connections with each other, offering peer support and information, empowering Defence Partners with confidence to access local and defence community-related services, and acknowledging the importance of belonging. Community Connectors are amazing Defence Partners around the country who have stepped forward and put their hand up to volunteer to help connect spouses in their community- the defence community by providing consistent and welcoming spouse-focused events (on weekends and child-free) that ALL Defence Partners can attend. We currently have ML Community Connectors in Amberley and Enoggera QLD, HMAS Cerberus VIC, Sutherland and Williamtown NSW, Rockingham WA, Adelaide SA, and Canberra ACT. Community Connection events take place regularly (every 6 weeks or so). If you would like to become a Community Connector in your location, get in touch via hello@militarylife.com.au! Suze and her husband homeschool their three girls aged 10, 7 and 2 from their suburban home in Adelaide. Not only is she the primary homeschooling parent, Suze is also a teacher by trade and in this episode we discuss how she reconciles educating her own children at home whilst working in a school setting and the importance of advocating for all children, not just our own.SUMMARYSuze reflects on the contradictions of her own schooling - uniform mandates, compulsory sport - and the hangovers of people pleasing and authority intimidationHow the introduction of the national curriculum shifted things for her professionally, witnessing the effects of the academic push down to do more youngerHer eldest daughter's apathetic experience of school and how Suze reacted to the commonly touted advice "She'll adapt" Her husbands (hilarious in hindsight) reaction to her suggestion of considering homeschool and how he came around to the idea“I actually can't reconcile what I know and believe about learning now with being a classroom teacher.”How Suze and her husband structure their week with support from her parents so they can both work and homeschoolTime, freedom, front row seats and watching her children choose to be friends are just some of her favourite things about this lifestyleThe challenges of homeschooling aren't that different from parenting and they are far outweighed by the benefitsNot every family is able or willing to homeschool and her aim is to make education and life more joyful for all childrenThe importance of defining what they value as a family and knowing if the decisions that they make pull them closer to or take them further away from those valuesThe joy of living intentional, purposeful and meaningful livesINSPIRATIONChanging our minds - Dr Naomi Fisher (book)CONNECT@wonder.and.flourish instagramHave you got a story to tell?Connect with us on instagram @australianhomeschoolstories or email australianhomeschoolstories@gmail.comThis podcast is recorded on the land of the Bunurong people of the Kulin nation. Today's episode is a fascinating discussion with Professor Chris Higgins from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Colorado School of Mines U.S. Chris was visiting Australia in March 2020 to discuss work on a PFAS soil washing project being conducted in Adelaide SA. Chris was attending a project meeting to discuss this project at QHAES, Brisbane and this interview was conducted there on the 3/3/2020, just before everything started to get locked down because of Covid-19. I am very glad I got the chance to talk with Professor Chris Higgins about PFAS because his chemistry background plus his extensive knowledge of PFAS chemicals produced a very informative and interesting discussion. It is an episode that you do not want to miss if you want to understand the behaviour of this complex group of chemicals known as PFAS. Chris said " I have certainly described this as what I think is a major challenge for my generation of environmental engineers. We are going to be dealing with this for a long time to come."

In Australia's southeastern grain growing region Controlled Traffic Farming has been widely adopted in high and medium rainfall zones but not so much in low rainfall zones.
