Sometimes life is messy. It can be tempting to bypass these uncomfortable moments when you're trying to follow a spiritual path. But living a spiritual life doesn't mean ignoring your true feelings during times of struggle, if anything, spirituality encourages us to be even more honest about how we're showing up from moment to moment. As the world continues to become more uncertain, we must find trust and support in our communities. Solitary practices are powerful, but it's time to embrace the coven! Gathering in community for mundane and magical moments helps us to stay connected to our humanity and our spirituality. As we listen to the birds sing on this cloudy day, let's get curious about growing the communities in our lives. What am I reading? The Spoon Stealer by Lesley CreweBeyond Anxiety: Curiosity, Creativity, and Finding Your Life's Purpose by Martha BeckWhat's playing on repeat? We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy JoelWhat's for dinner?Brussels Sprouts Meatball PastaIngredients:1 lb penne pastaBrussels sprouts Precooked chicken or vegan meatballs, I used a garlic Parmesan varietySun dried tomatoes in oilDiced garlicOlive oilSalt and pepperParmesan cheeseInstructions:Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Boil water and cook pasta until al dente, drain pasta, set aside. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Thinly slice Brussels sprouts, drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, spread onto cookie sheet. If precooked meatballs are frozen, add them to the cookie sheet and cook with the sprouts. If meatballs are not frozen, simply heat through. In pasta pot, sauté garlic and sun dried tomatoes in oil, add cooked pasta to the oil mixture, coat thoroughly. Add roasted Brussel sprouts and meatballs to pasta, top with grated Parmesan and mix thoroughly. Although Rachel in Scripture did not have an abortion, we know she experienced deep pain on many levels.Click HERE for a wonderful summary of her story and how God worked through it to give her strength and hope in a future that is unblemished. The angst and loss Rachel had is applicable to all of us who make decisions counter to what God has in mind for our own flourishing. And yet...there is Jesus. My guest today on "I'm Glad You Said That" is Tara Haughey with Project Rachel, a ministry within the Archdiocese of Anchorage & Juneau that provides compassion and care for people who have experienced the trauma of abortion. To be pro life is so much more than just preventing abortions. We serve as ambassadors of God best in this arena when we not only work at rescuing those being led to slaughter but also reach out to those who need love and forgiveness and support after a decision to end the life of a pre-born has been made. To stand alongside them not with judgement but with sincere humility and empathy.I hope you can tune in.Support the show

Micah Salaberrios is an expert in the field of Nonviolent Communication and has been teaching since 2016. He wrote the bestselling book "The Art of Nonviolent Communication", and hosts a popular podcast, "The Art of NVC", with over 70,000 downloads. In this conversation, Nate and Micah discuss the practical application of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in real-life situations. Micah shares examples of how to use emergency empathy to de-escalate heated moments and identify underlying needs. Throughout the conversation, they emphasize the need for practice and flexibility in using NVC and the importance of using it in your natural voice.Micah SalaberriosWebsite, Podcast & Practice Group: The Art of NVCMicah's belief in the transformative power of NVC has been the driving force behind his work, helping people to resolve conflicts peacefully and fostering deeper understanding in their relationships. The language and approach of NVC need to be updated to fit the current times and the way we communicate. Sounding natural and authentic is crucial when using NVC to avoid sounding formulaic or robotic. Emergency empathy is a powerful tool in resolving conflicts, as it allows us to identify how someone feels and why without blaming or judging them. Practicing NVC involves thinking about possible feelings and needs in difficult conversations and going deeper to uncover the core issues. NVC can turn conflict into connection and lead to a deeper sense of understanding and empathy. Using emergency empathy can help de-escalate conflicts and create a sense of calm in heated moments. Connecting feelings to needs can provide clarity and understanding in emotional situations. NVC tools can be helpful in navigating power struggles and resolving conflicts in relationships. NVC is a lifelong practice that can lead to deeper connections and more effective communication.Sound Bites "The Arts of Nonviolent Communication: A Complement to Marshall Rosenberg's Book" "Emergency empathy is just guessing or asking how someone feels and why they feel that way." "NVC can turn conflict into connection and lead to a deeper sense of understanding and empathy." "Let me just multiple choice here. I'm feeling this. Which one are you feeling?" "If I'm feeling something, it's because a need is being satisfied or not satisfied in this moment." "Just the sensory somatic feeling in the body is the first level of just accepting, honoring it, understanding, and then the intellectual understanding will come out."

This episode explores the powerful concept of connecting our feelings to underlying needs and how to navigate receiving difficult messages. It's explained that while others' words may be a stimulus, our feelings stem from how we interpret them and our own needs. The discussion delves into the four choices we have when responding to challenging messages: hearing blame and focusing on what's wrong with the speaker, hearing blame and focusing on what's wrong with ourselves, recognizing our own feelings and needs, or identifying the speaker's feelings and needs. Through examples and role-playing, the episode illustrates how to effectively apply these principles in personal and professional settings, ultimately fostering greater understanding and connection. Re-released Episode- Military Life Community Connectors EXPLAINED PART 1   Maybe you have heard about Military Life Community Connectors, or maybe you want to know more about them. This episode is all about who they are, what they do, and why I felt there was a need for the Military Life Community Connector Program.   No one quite gets you like a fellow Defence Partner, but finding and connecting with other partners can be both tricky and nerve-wracking!   It took me 10 years to find a Defence Partner friend. Partly because I didn't realise what I was missing out on. Partly because I was downright scared to step forward to connect. Partly because I was reluctant to put my hand up for support. Partly because I wasn't given the opportunity to connect and belong in my community.   So, when I finally found what I didn't even know I was missing, that connection and support only fellow Defence Partners can give, I felt a weight lift off of me. I caught my breath. I felt like I belonged and wanted every Defence Partner to have what I had found.   That's why I created the ML Community Connector Program and where Community Connectors come in! I wanted to give every Defence Partner the opportunity to CONNECT and BELONG in their community just like I had because I knew in my heart what a huge difference it made having Defence Partner friends in your corner who just got you and defence life.   ML Community Connectors play a vital role for Defence Partners by bringing them together to create meaningful connections with each other, offering peer support and information, empowering Defence Partners with confidence to access local and defence community-related services, and acknowledging the importance of belonging.   Community Connectors are amazing Defence Partners around the country who have stepped forward and put their hand up to volunteer to help connect spouses in their community- the defence community by providing consistent and welcoming spouse-focused events (on weekends and child-free) that ALL Defence Partners can attend.   We currently have ML Community Connectors in Amberley and Enoggera QLD, HMAS Cerberus VIC, Sutherland and Williamtown NSW, Rockingham WA, Adelaide SA, and Canberra ACT. Re-released Episode- Military Life Community Connectors EXPLAINED PART 2   Maybe you have heard about Military Life Community Connectors, or maybe you want to know more about them. At the young age of 22, he started his own film production company and before long he was working around the world for TV networks and Fortune 500 clients, making the kind of films and TV shows that inspired him and his audience. Rob was living his passion and purpose and getting well paid to go sailing in Tahiti, film colorful religious festivals in Thailand or go helicopter skiing with camera in hand. It was a dream career come true. Then there was a turning point in Rob's life, and this shifted the landscape of his world.  Rob and his wife Dee were lost in a winter blizzard for 5 days and given up for dead.   After this near-death survival experience that was national news and resulted in a call from the President of the United States, they started asking questions about what really their purpose in life was ~ like what many people are asking now in the pandemic. As a result of overcoming this adversity – Rob began his search for the source of human happiness. They decided to sell their home and buy a sailboat, which morphed into the adventure of spending the next 17 years sailing around the world studying human happiness. Rob has shared his life with both billionaires and barefoot villagers in 100 countries. "Hatred isn't something you avoid, it's a prerequisite for success. If you get no hate, you are not successful. So Don't avoid it,look at it as a leading indicator that you're on the right path" - Alex HormoziOn this episode Bryan and Jessie dissect this quote as it pertains to their own experiences and journey with push back from people in their lives as they make choices that can be seen as "outside the box." Flipping the script on what that pushback is inherently communicating can be validating and encouraging if you're currently climbing a new mountain or setting your own path.Email us at:  bryan.jessie@3x5life.com and we'll be happy to discuss how we might make a positive impact with your company teams through our 3x5 Life Workplace Wellness System. Enjoy this episode! With Gratitude,❤ Bryan & Jessiewww.3x5life.combryan.jessie@3x5life.comNot sure the best way to get started or how to connect with us and the 3x5 Life Community?  Follow these simple steps to hit the ground running!STEP #1 - Join Our Private Facebook Group "The 3x5 Life Community":  https://www.facebook.com/groups/3x5life.privateSTEP #2 - Connect with Us and The 3x5 Life Community on All Our Social Media Pages:Facebook Page:  https://www.facebook.com/3x5life/Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/3x5_life/Pinterest:  https://www.pinterest.ca/3x5life/_shop/STEP #3 - Take a Picture of You Using Your Product, Tag Us on Social Media and We'll Send You a Free Coupon Code to Use Towards Your Next Order!STEP #4 - Share and Refer Your Friends, Family & Co-Workers!Intro Music Credits:“Looking For Adventure”: Composed by Tim McMorrisProduced by King's Crown Productions

The summer is slowly starting to wind down and we could not think of a better person to talk with us at this time than Erica Wiggenhorn! Erica is an award-winning author and is the founder of Every Life Ministries. We're so thankful to have her as a part of our church family! If you are a woman who attends Bible Study at Desert Springs, you have probably been a part of one of the studies Erica has written. In this interview we had the opportunity to speak with Erica on a personal level. We really appreciate Erica's realness; you're going to feel like you're catching up with a friend you've had forever over coffee. Erica's story starts in her time at Azusa Pacific University where she met her husband Jonathan (that's a funny story that you'll have to listen to hear). They married shortly after graduating college and later moved to Michigan for Jonathan's schooling. Moving to Michigan was a big step as Erica had never left California. This move is where she learned to seek out and cultivate real community. Life was bringing Erica a lot as she was trying to balance her husband's demanding schedule with her own career all while struggling with infertility. Having Christian community became vital while navigating all of these things. They ended up moving to North Carolina and then eventually Arizona to care for Erica's ailing father. We're thankful the Wiggenhorn family was able to become a part of Desert Springs after moving to Arizona. Multiple moves, being a new mom, the death of her father and the stresses of work were leaving Erica feeling exhausted and on the verge of burnout. She prayed in desperation to know God in a real way - and God's answer to Erica was to begin studying Ezekiel. This began the road to becoming the author so many of us know now. You're going to want to take notes as SO much wisdom is scattered throughout this real and candid conversation about what it takes to develop real and lasting community. God can really move when we being to take those initial steps. You'll hear so much about the groundwork that was laid simply by Erica taking the steps that were in front of her. God is always leading us into community with Him and others; we just have to follow. These show notes can hardly sum up this conversation, you've got to listen!Learn more about Erica and her ministry: https://ericawiggenhorn.comErica's books and Bible studies: https://ericawiggenhorn.com/books/Connect with Erica on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ericawiggenhorn/?hl=enWould you please subscribe and leave us a review? We curated nine years of educational content, added a social feature and workouts, and put it into an app that you can use 100% for free.  We believe the Active Life Community App will bring more value to coaches and gym owners than most mentorship companies charge for, while doing it all for free.  We believe the Active Life Community App will allow you to exercise more sustainably than any paid template program allows for, while giving it away to you for free.  We got tired of being thought of as similar to all of the companies who would tell you that they give all of their best stuff away for free only to send you to the abyss of youtube, instagram, podcasts, and articles to try and find the thing you're looking for, and ending up overwhelmed by the chaos. So we evaluated what of our content got into our education for paying clients, and what of that education would be useful for you, and then we codified in so that it would be easy for you to find everything you're looking for, and be able to apply it.  The Active Life Communities platform is free, it always will be.
