Today you will hear my conversation with Irish singer/songwriter Ailbhe Reddy, who joins me for a chat about her brand new album 'Kiss Big,' an ode to heartbreak, letting go, and the messy in-between of trying to figure out who you are on your own. We also geek out about our favorite rom-coms, traveling, and Leonard Cohen. ✨ MORE ABOUT AILBHE REDDY ✨Ailbhe Reddy is a London-based singer/songwriter hailing from Dublin, Ireland. Her confessional indie folk combines diaristic lyrics with soft-spoken intensity and emotional gravity reminiscent of Julia Jacklin and Angel Olsen. London-based, Dublin-born singer songwriter Ailbhe Reddy released her third album Kiss Big via Don Giovanni Records on January 30. Kiss Big unfolds as a breakup record - but not the tidy, acoustic kind. It lives in the messy middle: the disorienting period when the life you built with someone collapses, and you're left trying to figure out who you are on your own. Written between Dublin, London, New York and the American Midwest, Kiss Big traces the cycle of love, loss, and renewal. It's raw and wry: the sound of coming apart and gluing yourself back together. Ailbhe Reddy tour dates: April 21: The Lexington, London May 5: The Deer's Head, Belfast May 7: Roisin Dubh, Galway May 8: Button Factory, Dublin Buy Kiss Big: https://ailbhereddy.bandcamp.com/album/kiss-big

Ailbhe Reddy is an Irish indie folk singer-songwriter from Dublin living in London. An artist who finds strength in sensitivity and embraces the full power of a moment. Ailbhe Reddy has a talent for crafting intensely moving alt-folk tunes. On her debut album Personal History, the Irish artist blurs the boundaries between personal and universal experiences to strike emotional chords with her relatable lyricism and uniquely tender vocals. ‘That Girl' follows the album's previously released singles ‘So Quickly, Baby' and ‘Align'. Ailbhe's album Kiss Big unfolds as a breakup record - but not the tidy, acoustic kind.

How I Became A Wave is the solo project of Pat Carey. Formerly of Cork band The Hard Ground, the release of the debut album from How I Became A Wave in 2026 will mark the first substantial release from Carey in 10 years and is a collaboration between Carey and a number of Ireland's finest musicians and artists. An exploration of soundscapes, exploring links between the intimate and the infinite, the album has an eye and an ear as much on grains of sand as it does on the waves that create them. Two full band headline shows, at Coughlan's, Cork (12 April) and The Unitarian Church, Dublin (17 April) are on sale now, in addition to upcoming supports with acclaimed US singer-songwriter Joan Shelly. To accompany the announcement, new single, ‘Sea Swell', has just been released – a song that grows with a quiet intensity, opening into a powerful full-band crescendo that has already become a standout moment in live shows. Live support slots with Joan Shelley, Lisa Hannigan, Villagers, Gemma Hayes, Niamh Regan, Ailbhe Reddy, John Spillane and more further cement the quality of this project, demonstrating the backing it has received from some of the genre's most respected artists. Festival appearances at Your Roots Are Showing, Quiet Lights and Sounds From A Safe Harbour have continued to build momentum, introducing the work to new audiences. How I Became A Wave was recently named in the Irish Independent's Ones to Watch for 2026. They wrote: “Pat Carey makes music that quietly acknowledges the strength it takes to be vulnerable, and the comfort that comes from creativity and collaboration” – perfectly summing up the ethos of this project, which has been a long time in the making.

Maykay returns to the TPOE podcast to discuss her self-titled debut solo album, released October 10 via Grainstore Records. Known for fronting Fight Like Apes, she's also spent years collaborating with Le Galaxie, Elaine Mai, DJ Kormac, Jerry Fish, and appears on the forthcoming third album from Ailbhe Reddy. You might also know her as a co-presenter of Other Voices. In this conversation, she gets into the creative process behind the album she made during lockdown and held onto for a couple of years - a record she describes as the soundtrack to both the most trivial and the most painful moments of her life. We talk about the realities of the music industry, pushing through self-doubt, finding her own sound with the help of Ian McFarlane (Squarehead, Tieranniesaur, Cruel Sister), and we break down a couple of tracks on the record as well. Nathan Connolly has been the guitarist with the acclaimed Northern Irish rock band Snow Patrol since 2002. Nathan began working on his debut solo album with producer Rocky O'Reilly in Belfast in 2017. A lockdown-imposed hiatus from Snow Patrol touring allowed him to finish the project in early 2021. The Strange Order Of Things features vocals from Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro and Irish artist Ailbhe Reddy. NO ENCORE returns to your ears once more, this time joined by a very special guest co-host – the returning Ailbhe Reddy! The prolific singer-songwriter has just released sophomore album Endless Affair and is on the promotional trail – don't miss Ailbhe's upcoming double-header at Whelan's in Dublin on May 5th and 6th, or elsewhere if you can catch her.Ailbhe joined Dave Hanratty in-studio for a chat about her recent American jaunt, her new album, and performing on the Irish institution that is The Late Late Show. She also selected this week's Top 5 – all about movie needle drops. But what is a needle drop, you ask? Well, it's the moment in a movie when a song plays out of nowhere in a bid to create some kind of atmospheric tension or manipulate your emotions in some form or fashion. A genuinely impossible task to just nail down five of these each, but Dave and Ailbhe tried their very best. The results speak for themselves, hopefully... Dublin singer-songwriter Ailbhe Reddy has just released her second album Endless Affair, the followup to 2020's Personal History. She says: "Endless Affair is about a fear of letting go. Either of a party or a relationship. The start of the album is about wanting to hold onto youthful chaos and old romances. The end is an acceptance of how letting go is natural and grounding. I think it shows the duality that can exist within a person. They can be a drunk mess at a party, a good friend, a daughter, a bad girlfriend, a hopeless romantic. All of those can exist within one person.” Buy Endless Affair on Bandcamp: https://ailbhereddy.bandcamp.com/album/endless-affair Ailbhe Reddy tour dates: https://www.songkick.com/artists/9070334-ailbhe-reddy On this episode, Ailbhe talks through the tracks on the album, from the partying of A Mess to the pure love song Shoulder Blades and the two closers, about her granny and mother. We also talk about making the artwork and the video for Shitshow, recording with Tommy McLaughlin at Attica Audio, and her future plans.
Liam Neeson and Neil Jordan bring Raymond Chandler's private eye back in Marlowe. Shazam! Fury of the Gods marks the return of the Gotham City hero. Pearl, a slasher movie about a wife whose husband is away at war in 1918. Allelujah, a gentle comedy set in a hospital. Rye Lane, a London romcom - New albums by U2, Miley Cyrus and Ailbhe Reddy.
Ahead of the release of a much-anticipated second album, and a run of gigs in North America culminating at SXSW, Zara caught-up with Ailbhe Reddy for this episode of The IMRO Podcast. Direct from New York City, we hear all about the process, hard-work and passion that has gone into Endless Affair - which is set for release on March 17th. Endless Affair follows the critically acclaimed, and Choice Prize nominated debut, Personal History from 2020. They talked about the different approaches Reddy had with those albums, and hear about whether she felt the pressure of the dreaded 'difficult second album'.

We've just about recovered from a great bank holiday weekend in Waterford for All Together Now, returning for the first time since 2019. Nick Cave was the main attraction, delivering possibly the best performance ever seen at an Irish music festival. Today's a special bonus episode where you're not only getting one but TWO interviews with two brilliant Irish artists. If you were to ask why Irish music stands out, many people would agree it's due to the perpetual honesty that Irish musicians present to the world. Our two guests today are a true testament to that and both of their debut albums are pushing music forward (both were nominated for RTE's Choice Music Prize). Nealo is a rapper whose album, All The Leaves Are Falling, explores the multi-faceted nature of masculinity and Ailbhe Reddy is a singer/songwriter whose album Personal History is full of observational wit that will charm the hell out of you. On today's episode, I chat with them both about the work and experiences that went into crafting these standout albums. There won't be a new episode of the podcast next week, season 2 will resume on April 13th.
This time last year there was a referendum in Ireland about abortion. The country voted to change its strict laws and make it legal up to 12 weeks. So Jane and the crew are taking the whole show to Dublin to talk about how the country's changed for women over the last 12 months. As well as examining how abortion provision is actually working, we'll discuss divorce because in a couple of weeks they'll be another referendum on that too. We'll also talk about the correct way to memorialise Magdalene Laundries, Mother and Baby Homes and Industrial Schools. Plus, there's a clause in the Irish Constitution about a woman's place in the home but many women argue it's outdated and patriarchal, so we'll tackle that subject too. There's so much to talk about. It'll be a lively, freewheeling discussion with our panellists Dr Rhona Mahony who is Executive Director of Women's Health in Ireland East; Susan Lohan who's a member of the Collaborative Forum on Mother and Baby Homes, and the author and essayist Sinéad Gleeson. And there's live music from singer and songwriter Ailbhe Reddy. We're live from the beautiful meeting room in the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin.
