For a number of years, Ed Hertzman found knee-deep in the middle of the supply chain/logistics world. At 26, he became frustrated by the confusion and lack of timely industry information available—where even a day's delay in placing an order could mean higher costs—Ed recognized a gap: There was no "Wall Street Journal" for supply chain professionals! Driven by this, he started the Sourcing Journal to provide real-time news and insights for the supply chain and apparel industries. What started as a solution to his own frustrations quickly transformed into a substantial business, making waves in media and challenging more traditional trade publications.  Ed, now founder of Athletech News (ATN) realized the same need in the HALO space (Health, Active Lifestyle, Outdoors.) Host Pete Moore and Hertzman sat down and explored the dynamic intersection of fitness, technology, finance, and wellness. He opens up about the realities of entrepreneurship, the evolution from newsletter to nationwide events, and the importance of building a reputation before going big. You'll hear Ed's candid thoughts on expanding the definition of the HALO sector—moving beyond just gyms to a broader world of health, active lifestyles, wellness, and recovery. Pete and Ed also discuss the need for more analytical reporting and data transparency around industry deals, and how their partnership aims to deliver the kind of financial insights and case studies that have long existed in other industries but are still missing in health and fitness. Finally, this episode also offers a peek into ATN's exciting upcoming event in New York—a high-caliber gathering inspired by the likes of "Davos and CES"—where collaboration, innovation, and strategic networking will take center stage. Whether you're an operator, investor, vendor, or enthusiast, this episode is packed with insights on where the industry is headed, how to drive meaningful connections, and why now is an exciting time to be a part of the ever-evolving HALO sector. Key themes discussed Transition from supply chain to the HALO media space Building and scaling a B2B media platform The power of niche, industry-focused events Importance of data-driven industry analysis More and more nontraditional players entering the HALO sector Challenges in sector terminology and defining “HALO” Fostering collaboration and innovation through quality events A few key takeaways:  1. Spotting and Building in the White Space: Ed shared how his entrepreneurial journey started by identifying under-served sectors, first in supply chain media with Sourcing Journal and now in the HALO/tech space. His experience underscores the importance of finding those “white spaces” in industries—areas where communities need a voice, connection, and credible business news. 2. Slow, Strategic Growth Over Event Hype: Rather than rushing into high-profile events, Ed took a measured approach. He grew his audience steadily through newsletters before expanding into larger conferences, waiting until he had the connections and content quality to make a true impact. A key takeaway? Avoid the temptation to “call in favors too early,” and don't over-promise before you can truly deliver. 3. Evolving Content for a Diverse Audience: Athletech News (ATN) started as a broad industry newsletter, but Ed also recognizes the need for more tailored communication—envisioning future newsletters and content streams focused specifically on CEOs, CTOs, franchisors, wellness executives, and more. As the industry's definition of “wellness” has broadened, ATN is beginning to attract nontraditional players from hospitality, tech, finance, and beyond, reflecting the sector's rapid evolution. 4. The Need for Data-Driven Analysis and Transparency: Hertzman also highlighted the lack of deep analysis regarding deals and trends in the sector—especially compared to more mature industries. He's working to change that by forging partnerships with data companies and bringing real financial insight (such as deal structure and industry benchmarking) to subscribers. He and Pete also discussed the value of expert deal breakdowns and empircal, data-driven content as a differentiator for the forthcoming ATN 2025 Innovation Summit in June in NYC. 5. Reimagining Industry Events as Collaborative Think Tanks: Ed's vision for future ATN events is ambitious: He wants to create a “Davos meets YPO meets Sun Valley” for the industry—a highly curated gathering where top CEOs, operators, founders, and even outside thought leaders come together to share, network, and get access to exclusive research and strategic insights. The focus is on intentional programming for different roles, experiential networking spaces, and using the event as the industry's annual central hub for partnerships, trends, and discoveries.

Par to esmu pārliecināts. Vēl viena no lietām – neizvirzām pārāk lielas ekspektācijas! Man šķiet, ka divos teikumos nesanāks. Nav iespējams to raksturot divos teikumos... Pirmo reizi, man šķiet, būsim skatītāja lomā. Un tad varbūt to salikt kopā tepat Latvijā. Kā to var salikt pa plauktiņiem? Man ir grūti komentēt baleta norises. (..) Tāpat kā restorānā – vienam garšo, vienam nē. Man šķiet, ar to ir viss pateikts. Protams, ka domāju par to, jo es taču strādāju tam, lai manu veikumu kāds novērtē, skatās un esmu ļoti priecīgs par to, ka man vispār ir iespēja pateikt to, ko gribu pateikt, īstenot savas iekšējās intereses un izvērst tēmas, kuras man ir ļoti aktuālas. Esmu ļoti pateicīgs, ja varu to kādam parādīt.  Bet par to saprašanu – bieži vien jādomā abstrakti. Par to esmu pārliecināts.

In this episode Julie and Ginger interview ATN's dear friend, Dr. Melissa Sadin. Melissa teaches us about Hope Theory based on the work of Gwinn and Hellman and their book Hope Rising. You can check out Dr. Sadin's books and work here: http://www.traumasensitive.com/, https://a.co/d/9x4lPtk. What is the definition of hope? Hope is setting a goal that you desire, creating a pathway toward the goal, and utilizing the willpower necessary to achieve the goal through connection to another person. Dr. Sadin further states that Hope Builds Resilience and Resilience Builds Hope. She tells us that through the following three-step process we can build hope and resilience in our children at home and students at school: 1. Set an achievable goal 2. Set the pathway -the WAYPOWER 3. Get a cheerleader- the WILLPOWER, who will help revise and check-in Melissa teaches us that: - Hope builds executive functioning capacity - Students with high hope have better attendance than students with low hope - Students with high hope have better academic outcomes than students with low hope- despite cognitive ability - Students with hope are more likely to find success in career or college sooner than students with low hope Listen in and join us in building hope!

In today's episode, Ginger and Julie dive into Step-Parenting. Approximately 40% of all families are blended families, which are defined as divorced and/or remarried families or those living together that have children residing with one parent and possibly visiting the other, and have another adult in their lives who is the stepparent figure. Divorce is widespread, (hovering around half of all marriages.) For children, divorce is considered a traumatizing event and being raised by stepparents can be a landmine of potential trauma. That doesn't mean we at ATN are against divorce or that we blame the adults for their decision to separate. We want parents to understand how divorce can potentially impact your children – for the rest of their lives. And how best to help them come out of it in a positive way. Here are some takeaways. Listen to your children. Give them a safe space to express themselves. Discuss and decide as a couple how you're going to handle family dynamics and what you want for your family. Whenever possible, try to be on the same parenting page. Take co-parenting seriously. Professional help will be needed as you blend your family, Interventions can help these struggles from becoming complex traumas and resources and support are available through ATN. If you want more information about our Trauma-Informed Certification program, go to certification.attachtrauma.org.

Why is it so bloomin' hard to train? What is happening to cause the pulling? Thoughts on equipment, management strategies, outlets and training games and strategies to succeed. If you haven't got a copy of Simone's book “Walking Together” it is a much needed and worthy book to have on those shelves. There's also a not to be missed (ahem) section where Nat, Corrin and Steve reminisce about the school days and words they used to think were cool. What should architects understand about the influence of computational design in practice?Technology has prompted a massive change in the way we practice architecture. This week we've invited Andrew Heumann to the show to help us take a deep dive into the world of computational design and coding. This episode aims to bridge the gap between those new to the niche of computational design and those embedded in the community. Andrew will share his perspective on the evolution of the digital tools that help architects create, the role of coding in architectural design, his work at Hypar, and trends in computational design.Hypar: Building technology visionaries have spent 70 years telling us we could generate building designs, but instead, the software industry helped us draw walls. It's time for AEC to do what the software industry has done for 40 years — capture and share its expertise to accelerate the improvement of an entire sector, not just individual projects. With Hypar, anyone can generate, visualize and analyze buildings to make better decisions faster. You can easily add your own processes and expertise so you don't start from square one with each new project.Guest:Andrew Heumann is a software developer at Hypar, with a passion for building the next generation of software tools for designers. He has previously worked as an automation researcher at WeWork, and before that as an architectural designer at Woods Bagot and NBBJ architects. He has written more than 20 plug-ins for 3D modeling software like Rhino and Revit, including the popular "Human" and "Human UI" plugins for Grasshopper. Outside of his professional work, Andrew is a generative artist, working with data, algorithms, geometry, and machines to create rich visual abstractions that engage and challenge the limits and affordances of digital media. Andrew has studied both architecture and computer science and has lectured and taught seminars at Columbia GSAPP, Yale University, Princeton University, and the California College of the Arts. His work has been published in Wallpaper* magazine, the International Journal of Architectural Computing, CLOG journal, and presented at conferences including ACADIA, SIMAUD, Autodesk University, the Design Modelling Symposium, and the AEC Technology Symposium.

This week on the OOD podcast, Josh and Kevin are joined by Angellia Perry, also known as "Airgun Angie". In this episode, Angie tells us about her growing up, not necessarily in a "hunting' family, but did not get into it until she met her husband. Angie then was approached by Rick Eutsler about making her outdoor activities into a job, doing product reviews. Since then Angie has delved heavily into not just hunting and shooting with PCP Air rifles (Precharged compressed pneumatic) but hunting and shooting in general. Angie tells us about hunting down in her now home state of South Carolina. Including the various animals she hunts from hogs and deer, to varmints and predators, with everything from Bows and Airguns to modern firearms. Angie also tells us about something Josh and I have not heard of before up here in Michigan, hunting deer with dogs. She then tells us about the booming armadillo population, the damage they do (and dangers they present (disease) and hunting them. We talk about hog hunting with dogs as well, and her experiences with it, and again, talk about the dangers of hunting hogs with dogs to both the hunters and the dogs. We then get into Air gun discussions, Angie relates her experiences with different calibers, power sources, pellet (bullet) choices, shot placement and different types of airguns (breakaction/spring/air/pneumatic) as well as her experiences with different brands, and practical hunting ranges with them. Angie also relates her experiences with optics, which ones are good for airguns and why, using ATN optics, how she likes to use the products and thermal vs nightvsision, and working the booth for them at SHOT Show. We finish with Angie telling us about options for people looking to get into big bore airguns, price points for them and prices for needed accessories. As always, THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. In his book, The Myth of Normal, Dr. Gabor Mate points out that all children have 4 irreducible needs:   a sense of security trust in the world interrelationships with others connection to your authentic emotions… And the way that they get these needs met is the availability of an attuned, non-stressed and emotionally reliable caregiver.  The more stressed or distracted the caregiver, then the shakier the emotional architecture of the child's mind will be. And that's the crux of it all…how do we set up parents and families to be able to be those attuned, non-stressed and emotionally available caregivers?  Julie and Ginger want to share this message from Dr. Mate and talk about how it aligns with so much of what ATN believes about Attachment being the Antidote, but also about how we have to advocate for what families need in today's society.   We highly recommend The Myth of Normal by Gabor Mate, MD and Daniel Mate
