Will Chich (Caged In: Coppola Connections) and Russell Bailey (Not Just For Kids Podcast) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Will's choice Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa. Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa is a 2013 feature length outing for Norwich's premier DJ Alan Partridge. Starring Steve Coogan as Alan. It features reoccurring characters Lynn Benfield (Felicity Montagu), Michael (Simon Greenall), and "Sidekick" Simon Denton (Tim Key), with some new faces including Pat Farrell (Colm Meaney), Steve Stubbs and Specialist Firearms Officer (Sean Pertwee). When North Norfolk Digital is brought out by a multinational corporation redundancies are on the table. DJ Alan Partridge hijacks a board meeting with the intention to support long-serving DJ Pat Farrell. When he discovers it is between him or Pat to go he decides to save himself and “JUST SACK PAT”. Pat is sacked and Alan is saved, at a company party a disgruntled Pat takes the radio station hostage at gun point and Alan is sent in to negotiate. Spin off films from hit comedy TV programmes can vary in quality from the good (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan) to the very, very bad (Brüno) with a struggle with sustaining a longer runtime and story based on sketch style comedy. Thankfully, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa is a real treat for fans of all things Alan. Recommendability for Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa was high, but based on being a fan or at least familiar with Alan. Small screen and engagement scores were also high to give a very impressive overall rating of 4.41. It's been 29 years since the character of Alan Partridge made his debut in the Radio 4 satirical radio show On The Hour. Since then Steve Coogan's inept Norfolk broadcaster has seen huge success with various TV shows and even a feature film, Alpha Papa. This week Alan makes a return to audio with a brand new podcast 'From The Oasthouse' - available to download from Audible. Steve Coogan chats to Amanda Litherland about the benefits of making comedy that's for ears only, and shares some of the secrets behind Alan Partridge's 30 year success. Later, Amanda is joined by the writer and critic Scott Bryan to recommend more of the latest new listens, including: Poppy Hillstead Has Entered The Chat Futile Attempts At Surviving Tomorrow - (Kim Noble and Novel) My Year In Mensa (Jamie Loftus) The Bomb (BBC World Service) Media Tribe (Shaunagh Connaire) On Things We Left Behind (Acast) Book Off (Joe Haddow) The Two Shot Podcast (Craig Parkinson) Chasing Charlie (Freemantle Australia)
Colm Meaney is a national treasure. This week Jarlath sits down with him for a one of a kind conversation about his early life, work and struggles. For the first time, we hear his experience of being Irish in the UK during the Troubles (31:00), getting his big break in the 1980s in America (38:00) and why juggling Star Trek with features such as The Van, The Snapper and The Commitments worked for him (51:00). From joining Sinn Féin as an 'anti-establishment' 13 year old (12:00), to and how Margaret Thatcher once 'fucked the whole thing up' with regards to funding and the arts (30:00), the Hollywood culture of telling people what they want to hear (50:00), the series of incredibly unfortunate events that killed the prospects of one of his proudest acting projects (56:00) and much more, this is a fascinating and rare conversation with a true Irish acting legend. To hear about the chaotic nature of filming Alpha Papa alongside Steve Coogan, Colm's thoughts on how the film/TV industry is changing, the art of finding the essence of a character, Con Air and more become a patron of An Irishman Abroad for just the price of a pint on www.patreon.com/irishmanabroad. Learning is a rather difficult thing to do. · Information over load. · Distractions· Took me a few days to learn how to setup a podcast recording. · Theory vs practical knowledge to actually go executeI have a youtube channel with more than 100 videos answering technical questions with tutorials on how to do stuff within Seller Central. There are dozens of topics that I’m literally the only person on the internet who has a video on it. I know this because clients tell me my video was the only source of information. This is why I’m starting this podcast. The difference between this podcast and my youtube videos is the videos are straight to the point technical show and tell. We see Alpha Papa's siege in a new light this week ("Just SAVE Pat"?) as we discuss Alan's accents, play 'Yoghurt vs. Radio', and ask whether beggars can be choosers. Catching up with the Fast and the Furious family this week. Although it looks like this family ain't big enough for three Aplha-Papas. So So Alpha-Papa 2 and Alpha-Papa 3 have teamed up a very silly take on the buddy-cop film. We continue our accidental series with another double-team/double-feature looking back at a giant of the sub-genre with Tango and Cash.

Don't let anyone apart from trained physicians tell you that laughter is the best medicine. Frequently anti-biotics are better suited to deal with the problem. However, it's certainly true that life is better with laughs, so in the first of an occassional series today we're looking at some of our favourite comedy films adapted from the small screen. On the list, we've got The Blues Brothers, Wayne's World, I, Spy, Starsky and Hutch, The Naked Gun, Brain Candy, Monty Python, Alpha Papa, and Ali G. There's around about another hundred films we could talk about, but most of them are underwhelming or not even close to whelming, so we're skipping them.
In the second of our two-part live special; as the siege takes to the streets, we investigate the disappearance of a much-loved Geordie, discuss the logistics of roadshow van toilets, and finally figure out which of us sounds like Will from the Inbetweeners. Plus, members of the audience play Cards Against Alanity for prizes.
With help from Sue Cook and our live audience, we talk one-star reviews, corporate jargon and pub theft as we review Alan’s new house, turn against Danny Sinclair and are shocked at how far Dave Clifton has fallen. Recorded in front of a live audience on Nov 24th at The Prince Charles Cinema, London.
It's the end of the summer and the end of Season 3. The small screen explodes into silver pieces as a quadrant of British sitcoms leap from TV to film and this final ORWAV show special. The boys head to Malia and Australia with The Inbetweeners for the movie outings, then join Alan Partridge inside a radio station siege in ALPHA PAPA. A trip to Ireland next for MRS BROWN'S BOYS; D'MOVIE, before ORWAV heads on the road with David Brent for this year's LIFE ON THE ROAD. Listen now!

Dogged this past week by claims of corruption, rigged voting and overweight power mad men running the show... No, it's not Steve and Owen here at Failed Critics! No. It's not even Sepp Blatter at FIFA. It's actually our guest Tony Black, who is joining us from Black Hole Cinema. After an open and equal voting process, Tony won his opportunity to join us this week completely fairly. Owen's new sports car and Steve's new handbag are just mere coincidences. The quiz this week has a slightly tongue in cheek twist as the team try to defend the FIFA backed film United Passions (don't forget to let us know which one is your favourite!) As well as this, the team also discuss: the front runners for the role of Spider-Man in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe film; Owen watches Alpha Papa twice in a week; Tony takes a look at the Kickstarter backed short film Kung Fury; and Steve finally gets around to seeing 22 Jump Street. And as if all of that wasn't enough, there's even time to squeeze in reviews of Brad... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
A lager-sodden "not deliberately bad" poet, Tim Key is responsible for some of the most startlingly theatrical fringe comedy of the last ten years. From his outrageous origin as a college-troupe cuckoo, to his frustrations at the culling of his sketch group "Cowards"; through fringe stardom to his big screen success alongside Alan Partridge, we trace Tim's emergence as one of the most compelling voices of contemporary British comedy. With Mark Lawson. Steve Coogan returns as his best-known character, Norwich radio DJ Alan Partridge, in a new film Alpha Papa, which sees Partridge involved in an unusual hostage situation at a local radio station. Steve Coogan discusses the evolution of the character from the small to the big screen, the pressure from fans to reprise his 'hit' character, and how his fears of turning into Alan Partridge himself inspire his performances. For Cultural Exchange, crime writer Ruth Rendell discusses her choice of Handel's oratorio Solomon, based on the bible story and containing the sinfonia The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. On the day that Arts Council England announces investment plans for 2015 to 2018, Peter Bazalgette, its chairman, talks to Mark about what these plans will involve - in the light of cuts to local authority budgets. Producer Claire Bartleet.
