It's a pleasure to welcome one of my longtime Twitter faves to the podcast. Katie Stebbins is a knowledgeable cinephile, academic librarian, & the author of truly creative film zines. For the uninitiated, that's "zines" as in magazines or literary journal-styled books filled with collages & writing on films within a given calendar year. Described as a personal, passionate, & unique way to engage with cinema & create a scrapbook that reflects the full experience of doing a deep dive into a year of film, these ingenious zines gave Katie a chance to explore not only her favorite movies but make new discoveries as well, which is so cool.In this breezy, spirited, nostalgia-fueled ode to the heyday of TV adaptations from the late '80s through the early aughts, we investigate the highs & lows of this new cinematic subgenre. Along the way, Katie & I take a closer look at THE ADDAMS FAMILY, THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, DUDLEY DO-RIGHT, & CHARLIE'S ANGELS.Originally Posted on Patreon (7/31/24) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/109183487Theme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music Archive Shop Watch With Jen logo Merchandise in Logo Designer Kate Gabrielle's Threadless ShopDonate to the Pod via Ko-fi

Making the jump from small screen to big screen is difficult for actors but even harder for series. During this time of quarantine, Derek has delved into the archives of unreleased podcasts to bring you a panel from Pensacon! Derek is joined by Steve Wise, Jason Robbins, Nathan Simmons, Nik Flagstar, and Bill Gibson to discuss Stephen King's Film and TV Adaptations. Topics include how they were introduced to Stephen King's work, some of their favorite and least favorite adaptations, which adaptations scare them the most, and questions from the audience!
What better way to spend your quarantine than by binging endless hours of entertainment based on Stephen King's works. From Salem's Lot to 11/22/63, the adaptation's of King's works have had their ups, downs, and unintentionally hilarious moments on television. Some have gone on to be staples in pop culture, while others have fallen by the wayside for one reason or another. To tackle the task of narrowing down the Top 5 TV versions of King's bibliography, I reached out to some people who've spent their fair share of time with these things. We tapped Brad and Doug Walker from Channel Awesome and Stoned Gremlin Productions' Brad Jones. These guys are no strangers to the oddities that were brought forth when directors tried making physical manifestations of the legendary author's disturbing fiction. Which will make the list? The Shining? The Stand? That version of IT no one ever talks about? Find out in our podcast below!https://youtu.be/xh9QZjmdLTk

What's Up Playa? This week Emmett Watkins Jr and Allan Muir are talking about the games they've played over the last week, then we fantasize about some games that would make awesome TV show adaptations in light of the announcement of the "The Last of Us" TV show. Al discusses his time with both Alienation and Fallout 4, while Emmett had a much more sparse week of gaming, as he only talks about Titanfall 2. In the special segment, in light of the news that The Last of Us is getting an HBO series, we talked about other games that would adapt very well into the medium of television. Some of the picks are fairly standard, some are inspired, and one has both hosts as giddy as they could possibly be. Don't let anyone apart from trained physicians tell you that laughter is the best medicine. Frequently anti-biotics are better suited to deal with the problem. However, it's certainly true that life is better with laughs, so in the first of an occassional series today we're looking at some of our favourite comedy films adapted from the small screen. On the list, we've got The Blues Brothers, Wayne's World, I, Spy, Starsky and Hutch, The Naked Gun, Brain Candy, Monty Python, Alpha Papa, and Ali G. There's around about another hundred films we could talk about, but most of them are underwhelming or not even close to whelming, so we're skipping them.

We have a special guest this week – Keith Arthur Bolden, professional actor and Assistant Professor of Drama at Spelman College! In honor of this very special guest co-host, in this episode, the Critic and the Referee decided to focus on movies and TV shows that are based on literature. From stage plays to Bible stories, their two-part conversation will help you extend your Easter celebration (if that's your thing) or simply choose a TV or movie adaptation that will work for you. Enjoy! After receiving reams of angry network notes, the boys have decided to separate the top ten lists that usually end each episode into their own standalone show. For the very first of these episodes, Joe & Ed fire off list of 10 superb TV Show Adaptations. Some are films adapted from TV shows, some are TV shows adapted from films. One is actually a TV show adapted from a TV show. Mind boggling. Being able to focus on the list on it's own unfortunately does not mean the boys are actually any more focused. During this episode, Ed dumbfounds Joe with details of the upcoming LEGO movie, the pair imagine a disgustingly profane alternative to The Avengers and Joe reveals what his confused, 11 year old self made of Twin Peaks when it aired first time around. As per usual, listen, enjoy, rate and review!
