Will Chich (Caged In: Coppola Connections) and Russell Bailey (Not Just For Kids Podcast) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Will's choice Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa. Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa is a 2013 feature length outing for Norwich's premier DJ Alan Partridge. Starring Steve Coogan as Alan. It features reoccurring characters Lynn Benfield (Felicity Montagu), Michael (Simon Greenall), and "Sidekick" Simon Denton (Tim Key), with some new faces including Pat Farrell (Colm Meaney), Steve Stubbs and Specialist Firearms Officer (Sean Pertwee). When North Norfolk Digital is brought out by a multinational corporation redundancies are on the table. DJ Alan Partridge hijacks a board meeting with the intention to support long-serving DJ Pat Farrell. When he discovers it is between him or Pat to go he decides to save himself and “JUST SACK PAT”. Pat is sacked and Alan is saved, at a company party a disgruntled Pat takes the radio station hostage at gun point and Alan is sent in to negotiate. Spin off films from hit comedy TV programmes can vary in quality from the good (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan) to the very, very bad (Brüno) with a struggle with sustaining a longer runtime and story based on sketch style comedy. Thankfully, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa is a real treat for fans of all things Alan. Recommendability for Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa was high, but based on being a fan or at least familiar with Alan. Small screen and engagement scores were also high to give a very impressive overall rating of 4.41. When things with the initial bribe go awry, his daughter, played by Maria Bakalova, is chosen to be given as a gift to Vice Premier Mike Pence. Luenell is the self-proclaimed “Original Bad Girl of Comedy.” She maybe be small is stature, but she more than makes up for it with her big personality, booming voice and infectious laughter. Easily recognizable for her signature look – that is, her platinum blonde Caesar haircut, beautifully manicured long nails and a blinged-out pimp cup in hand – Luenell, has been thrilling audiences with her brand of comedy for almost 30 years. But Luenell's NOT laughing about the huge discrepancies between male and female comics, with men getting far more exposure and far bigger paychecks than women. She says after thirty years in the biz, she's still trying to get recognized, despite being featured in films, like her current one - Borat. In this episode, Luenell tells her story, sharing a behind the scenes look at life as a comedian and shares tips for up and coming comedians. and talks about the real struggles that come along with it. Plus, find out how Luenelle is dealing with family drama during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. WHAT’S NEW?! Luenell is part of the ensemble cast of “Dolemite Is My Name,” starring comedy legend Eddie Murphy, currently on Netflix. Plus, she’s part of the cast of “Coming to America 2,” set to hit theatres around the holidays in 2020. And yes! That’s two Eddie Murphy movies in one year! Also, Luenell appears in the sequel, “I’ve Got the Hookup-2,” an urban cult classic, starring music mogul/businessman Master P and his son, Romeo Miller. Luenell also appears in the Oscar-nominated film, “A Star is Born,” directed by Bradley Cooper and starring Cooper and Lady Gaga. She also rocks the mic in the new Showtime comedy special, called “Funny Women of a Certain Age,” sharing the stage with Fran Drescher (“The Nanny”), Carole Montgomery, Lynne Koplitz, Kerri Louise and Vanessa Hollingshead. Plus, she makes a cameo appearance in the music video, “I Like Boys,” by former American Idol singer/songwriter and choreographer Todrick Hall, which has already amassed millions of views on YouTube. In addition, she just released her comedy CD, “Luenell Live: I Only Drink at Work,” available on digital platforms everywhere. And then there’s Las Vegas!! Luenell wrapped up her three-month Las Vegas residency at the SLS hotel in Viva Las Vegas! But, she’s not through with Las Vegas! Back by popular demand, she has an ongoing engagement at the Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club at The LINQ Promenade in Vegas. Although African American audiences are familiar with Luenell from her appearances on BET’s ComicView, she crossed over to mainstream after her breakout role in the 2006 hit mockumentary-styled comedy film “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” She portrayed a prostitute, named Luenell, with a heart of gold. And in the end, just like Julia Roberts’s character in “Pretty Woman,” Luenell got the guy! On the heels of the film’s release, she embarked on a successful 60-city tour with “Money Mike” Katt Williams. Haley and Ellis discuss Larry Charles's 2006 film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan & Jason Woliner's 2020 sequel Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
2006. A simpler time when men everywhere did their version of a Borat impression. Do we thank Sacha Baron Cohen or curse his name? This week, Rolando and Nicole discuss "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." What made this film so funny to Americans in 2006? And what was the film trying to say? Is anti-Semitism funny if the creator of the content is Jewish? And then Nicole and Rolando critique "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" and it's heavier, political slant. Does content lose its edge when it takes a stance on an issue? How should we feel about a British person calling out Americans? And does this movie hit different after the 2020 election? And if you love the second-hand embarrassment of Borat's comedy, you'll love Rolando's Borat impression. Listen now. These characters conduct real interviews with unsuspecting people, many of whom are celebrities, high-ranking government officials, and other well-known figures, during which they are asked absurd and ridiculous questions. The first (2000) season originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK, and the second and third (2003–2004) seasons on HBO in the United States. The second series was known as Ali G in da USAiii in the UK and Australia.[1] In 2005, HBO stated they had no plans to make an additional season of the show.[2] Baron Cohen has gone on to make four films featuring each of his three characters from the show: Ali G Indahouse (2002), Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006), Brüno (2009) and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020). In 2014, FXX reaired the show (including episodes unaired in the United States) under the branding Ali G: Rezurection.[3]

The fictional comic character Borat Sagdiyev has finally been adopted as a cultural ambassador for Kazakhstan, in spite resisting the embrace of the mustachioed reporter for years. The central Asian country's tourism board has used the catchphrase "very nice" as a slogan for an advertising campaign. However, it has taken over a decade for Kazakhstan to warm to the films. The creation of UK comic Sacha Baron Cohen, Kazakhstan initially threatened the actor with legal action over Borat. The fictional character from the former Soviet republic played on the general lack of awareness surrounding the country to dupe celebrities into interviews. In 2006 the original "Moviefilm" was banned from Kazakhstan's cinemas.Titled "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," Baron Cohen's portrayal of the TV documentarian was not flattering. Many Kazakhs felt they were the butt of a joke.14 years on, the comic has raised awareness for the country, if not in the way the national tourism board would have hoped. Few people have not heard of either Borat, or the Republic of Kazakhstan. The latest advert, which was released the same week as the Borat sequel, finally claims the catchphrase as its own."How can you describe a place this surprising in just two words? As a wise man one said, "Very nice!" proclaims the advert."Kazakhstan's nature is very nice. Its food is very nice. And its people, despite Borat's jokes to the contrary, are some of the nicest in the world," said Kairat Sadvakassov, deputy chairman of Kazakh Tourism in a statement. Not everyone is happy, though.Amazon, which is the latest film's distributor, was petitioned by 100,000 people to cancel the film."Why is our small nation fair game for public ridicule?" asked an open letter to Amazon, following the release of the trailer. "They completely desecrate and humiliate Kazakhstan and the dignity of the Kazakh nation."Humilliated: Villagers from the Romanian town of Glod felt exploited by the film. Photo / ScreenshotThe satirical film draws on racist and sexist prejudices which the film surreptitiously exposes from unwitting interviewees. However, the fake Kazakh journalist does not paint his adopted country in a flattering light.Joking about rape and incest and at one point claiming that the country boasted the "cleanest prostitutes in the world" led many Kazakhs to feel insulted. Most of the original film was not even made in the country.Residents of the Romanian slum village of Glod which was a stand-in location for Kazakhstan said they felt "humiliated" after seeing themselves depicted in the film. The BBC reported villagers were paid around 3 euros each for appearing in the film. Many residents of the town, which had no running water, felt they were exploited by the cameras. While the experience of seeing themselves portrayed in this way was not "very nice", Kazakhstan has noted that the outcome of the films have been positive. In 2012 the Kazakh foreign minister reported that tourism numbers had increased 10 fold since the first Borat film.By: Thomas Bywater

In this first episode of Borat Club, our hosts Ryan and Niall dive deep on Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Producer Monica Levinson '90 stops by to discuss her decorated career as a film producer, including her latest work on "Brian Banks," a tale of a football player whose dreams of playing in the NFL were derailed by accusations of rape and kidnapping. Banks, who was falsely incarcerated, was exonerated and now spends his time fighting for others who were falsely convicted of crimes. Levinson's career as a producer has included films like “Captain Fantastic,” “Zoolander,” "Private Parts," “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story," “Trumbo,” and “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” Levinson reveals the break that launched her career in film, talks about reinventing herself, and shares the impact Syracuse University has on her life.
Jagshemash! Sequelitis is back with a little Kazakh flair as the Loose Cannon gang tries their hand at sequelizing the crude but lovable Sacha Baron Cohen satire “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.”Turns out, a pure sequel isn’t easy when dealing with spoof mockumentary films, but Alex saves the day with what is easily the greatest idea in podcast history. Meanwhile, Mike and Jonny sound Italian when doing a Borat voice, Adam gushes over what is clearly, like, his favorite film of all time for some reason, and Anne has never even seen the movie (like an a-hole from Uzbekistan).Enjoy! Nooootttt! #CatchSequelitis

Today's Guest: Ken Davitian, actor, Borat, "Chuck" Order 'Borat' from Amazon.com by clicking the DVD cover above Granted, the role for which everyone best—or maybe worst--remembers actor Ken Davitian is “Azamat Bagatov,” Borat’s manager in the 2006 movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan starring Sacha Baron Cohen. Anyone who saw it will forever have the image of Davitian and Cohen wrestling naked in a motel room scalded into their brains. But Ken Davitian has appeared in plenty of other films, fully clothed. He’s a terrific character actor and from what I’ve seen of him being interviewed elsewhere, quite a gentle soul. In other words, nothing at all like Azamat. KEN DAVITIAN podcast excerpt: "It was in Dallas I was told we were going to do this. I kept saying to Sacha Baron Cohen, 'A fat guy in boxers, that's funny. Funny, funny! No?' He said, 'I want naked.' We ran into an engineers convention, twelve o'clock in the afternoon, somewhere in the Dallas area. We started doing our schtick with each other. I looked into his eyes. I could see him looking at the audience. He stopped. He went out of character, said 'We're not getting any response. Let's go.' We walked out of there totally in character, naked." He recently played the role of “Uncle Bernie” to perfection in an episode of NBC’s “Chuck” titled “Chuck Versus the First Kill.” He was also “Shtarker” in the otherwise forgettable Steve Carrell remake of Get Smart. He’s also been seen in movies such as Soul Men, Meet the Spartans, Holes and S.W.A.T. as well as TV shows such as “The Closer,” “ER” and “Ghost Whisperer.” Coming up, his new film Prankster just got picked up for distribution and will come out in October. He also finished a feature film with former “American Idol” finalist Katharine McPhee and Dave Annable of “Brothers & Sisters” called You May Not Kiss the Bride. It also stars Rob Schneider, Mena Suvari, Tia Carrere, Kathy Bates and Vinnie Jones. Also in the pipeline is another film, Melvin Smarty. Davitian also co-owns a hot dog restaurant in Sherman Oaks called The Infield. Steve Cooper talks with actor Ken Davitian. Ken began acting full time in the early 1990s and spent the majority of his career being typecast as a short, fat, bumbling, and sometimes sleazy character in low budget B-movies before gaining small guest spots on television in such series as the HBO sports comedy Arli$$, The Shield and the HBO hit drama Six Feet Under. However in 2006, he would land a role that would dramatically change his life and acting career forever. He auditioned for a supporting role in the Sacha Baron Cohen project Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. The part he was going for was that of Azamat, the stout, rotund production assistant to the naïve, yet endearing, foreign reporter Borat. It was reported that during the audition, he began reading lines in an Eastern dialect of Armenian, prompting a comically entertaining back-and-forth between he and Cohen. Cohen instantly demanded that he be given the part of Azamat. His performance became somewhat of a cult, comedic classic and led him to more roles in feature films like the parody Meet the Spartans, the spy comedy Get Smart, the Oscar winning The Artist and others. His TV credits include It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Hawaii Five-O, Two and a Half Men, Big Time Rush and Ray Donovan.
