Mr Lewis, told Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Drive, "It wasn't something that I felt proud of, but it was something that I was pretty scared that I was unable to keep control in the way that that it had been going." "I'd had it for quite some time, but there was the denial there rather than just owning up," Mr Lewis continued.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This month, a very special guest with a very special mission joins Greg on the podcast from New York City, and we are going to get REAL. Anjalee Seneviratne began having seizures when she was growing up in Sri Lanka, and they discuss how a lack of awareness or education about epilepsy leads to people not doing the first thing to bring this condition into the light… talk about it. She is now living in New York City, and attempting to get a bunch of landmark buildings including the Empire State Building to light up for Purple Day on March 26. She has had some luck with World Trade Center and Bryant Park, but with more awareness there is certainly a way! Finally, they talk about a very serious subject that is often times not talked about openly due to its severity, and that is suicide. Anjalee had an episode this past year, but thankfully survived. She talks about how epilepsy and her medication side effects had an impact, and how people treated her after that event. If you or someone you know is suffering from suicidal thoughts, talk to somebody. Dial 988, or visit 988lifeline.org. The world is so much better with you here. Dear friends,Time to take a break from Romans for a few weeks, and deal with some other issues that have been on our minds. This week we turn our attention to a moral question: How should we respond when our workplace or school wants us to take a stand about some social issue that we think differently about? What should we do, for example, when ‘Wear it Purple Day' comes around in support of LGBTQ+ rights? Quietly wear a purple tie and keep our head down? Or just as quietly ‘forget' to? Or make a more visible protest? And what biblical principles should inform our decision? We hope you find our exploration of the ins-and-outs of this question illuminating not just for situations like this one, but as a model for thinking about moral questions generally.Your brotherTony This is a public episode. Prevent Anxiety Around COVID-19 On Wednesday March 11th, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic. To help lessen some fears and anxieties, we have compiled information on COVID-19 and what you can do to decrease your risk of contracting it. Please see below for this information: What is COVID-19?: COVID-19 is the disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. Coronaviruses are part of a large family of viruses that may cause illness in animals/humans. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. Symptoms of COVID-19: The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some people may also experience aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose or sore throat. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually and are similar to symptoms associated with colds and flu. It is important to note that some people who are infected with COVID-19 may present with very little symptoms or no symptoms at all and symptoms sometimes may also take up to 14 days to appear after exposure. How is COVID-19 Diagnosed?: COVID-19 is diagnosed by a health care provider based on symptoms and other factors (such as travel to affected areas) and is confirmed through laboratory tests. How is COVID-19 Treated?: While there is currently no treatment or vaccine for COVID-19, approximately 80% of people infected by COVID-19 will recover on their own. However, it has been found that 1 out of every 6 people develop serious illness, which can cause difficulty in breathing. People who are more likely to develop serious illness include the elderly, the immunocompromised and people with underlying medical problems, such as heart problems, diabetes and high blood pressure. Am I At Greater Risk Due To Epilepsy?: It has been found that epilepsy does not present an increased risk of catching COVID-19 or developing serious illness. However, some of the symptoms of COVID-19, such as high fever, cough and difficulty breathing, may put you at an increased risk of seizures. This may be due to the fact that feeling unwell and having a higher temperature can be a trigger for seizures and coughing and difficulty breathing can keep you up at night and lack of sleep can also be a trigger for seizures. If you are feeling an exacerbation of seizures due to these symptoms, please contact your healthcare professional. What Should I Do If I Become Ill?: If you become ill, you should quarantine yourself at home as quickly as possible and immediately contact your health care provider or local public health authority. Inform them about your symptoms and any other pertinent details, such as your travel history, if you have had any contact with a sick person, etc. and get tested for COVID-19. How Can I Protect Myself from COVID-19?: There are many actions that you can take to stay healthy and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Here are some options at your disposal: If you are sick, stay home from work and/or school and avoid public places Encourage others who are sick to also stay home from work/school and avoid public places Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20-30 seconds If you are in a situation where you are unable to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer that's 60% to 95% alcohol Cough and/or sneeze into your elbow Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, such as door handles Fill your prescriptions regularly to ensure you have enough anti-epileptic medication in case you are unable to leave your house Limit your contact with others, such as avoiding sports games, concerts, events, etc. or other places where there are crowds or large gatherings When greeting people, try waving rather than shaking hands or hugging Stay at least 1 meter away from someone who is coughing and/or sneezing Try not to touch your face, including your eyes, nose and mouth Keep up to date on COVID-19 hotspots (areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely) and avoid travelling to those areas Change your regular habits, such as working out home instead of at the gym, doing online grocery shopping, etc. Stock up on essentials such as non-perishable food items, toilet paper, etc. Ensure you are getting information about COVID-19 from experts and reputable sources and not relying on other people's opinions It is understandable to feel anxious or worried about COVID-19. We hope that the information contained in this blog post will help lessen some of your anxieties and worries. Find out more about COVID-19 here.

On 25 August, 2019 Martyn Iles visited St Thomas' 5pm service. After the service we had dinner together as a church community in the church hall and Martyn addressed us on the topic of religious liberty. This week we are listening to the question & answer session (you can find the questions asked further below). You can find video of this Q&A session here. Martyn Iles is the Director of the Australian Christian Lobby. Christians Engaging Culture exists to equip the members of St Thomas’ to give faithful answers in everyday cultural conversations and to turn those conversations to the gospel. The aim of this podcast is to start conversations around our church community, so please encourage everyone at church to subscribe (and show them how to!) and when you see people, ask them what they thought of this week's episode. You can find the Christians Engaging Culture website here. If you are not a member of St Thomas', we invite you to look at the 'About Us' page of our website here. Questions from the podcast 1. What are the current RF laws and limits in Australia and how do they differ to other countries? 2. How do we balance recognizing that unbelievers aren’t expected to obey God’s law with lobbying for Christian laws for example marriage equality and abortion debates? 3. What does it mean that you don’t believe in human rights law? 4. How does the high court decision in Comcare versus Banerji, where Banerji was fired by APS for tweets affect your approach to religious freedom and the Folau case? 5. Are Muslims and Muslim businesses targeted at the moment in the same way as you have outlined for homophobic beliefs? If not, why do you think that is so? 6. You’re having a conversation at the footy about religious liberty issue. How do you turn the conversation towards Jesus? 7. Why does God give governing authority to corrupt people? 8. “Wear it Purple Day” at schools is coming up. What’s your advice where everyone at schools and workplaces are expected to participate? 9. Phillip Ruddock’s Religious Freedoms report found no real examples of religious disadvantage because of religious beliefs. Did he miss all the cases that you have shared? 10. People have said they are disappointed that ACL has donated to Israel Folau’s legal defense when he has enough funds of his own. Can you explain? 11. Thinking about laws and policies why is it ok to impose Christian values on non-Christians? 12. What political strategies has ACL put into place to reinstate Christian values back into policies and governments at federal and state level? 13. How would you respond to a wedding invitation from a lesbian friend? 14. Considering Australia’s political landscape, who has inspired you most and why?
