The Toronto Blue Jays handed the New York Yankees their first series loss of the season but weren't able to complete their first sweep of 2024 as The Bronx Bombers rallied in the finale with a four-run ninth inning. We talked about all of the good things from this series against New York, including strong starts from Chris Bassitt, Yusei Kikuchi, and Kevin Gausman, along with some encouraging performances from Alejandro Kirk and Daulton Varsho. We also talked about the bad from the series, which was really just the implosion on Wednesday. We also welcomed Andrew Stoeten of The Bat Flip and Blue Jays Happy Hour to the show to discuss the series against New York and make some big-picture observations about the team three weeks into the season. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Blue Jays bumpy start to the season continues as the Astros embarrass the Jays in Houston. The Jays get no-hit and one-hit in the series as they become the first team in MLB history to accomplish the sad feat to start an MLB season. But, it wasn't all bad as Davis Schneider comes in clutch in game two. How did it all go so wrong for Toronto?Andrew Stoeten joins the show as Coomzy is off to New York to catch the Jays in action in the Bronx. Stoeten breaks down what went wrong, what went well, and what comes next for the Blue Jays on this episode of Blue Jays Nation Radio! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
After two stellar seasons as the ace of the Blue Jays staff, Kevin Gausman is primed to continue to rise to the level of the game's elite pitchers. Old Reliable Andrew Stoeten stops by to look deeper at the best pitcher in the Jays rotation, and potentially one of the best in franchise history.
We're nearing the finish line. The Blue Jays will play a few more Grapefruit League games and then they'll open the 2024 season against the Rays in Tampa next Thursday. We welcomed Andrew Stoeten of The Bat Flip and Blue Jays Happy Hour to the show to talk about the off-season and the notable things that have happened during Spring Training, including the Santiago Espinal trade, injuries to the team's pitching staff, and how many long-term plans could be dictated by what happens this season. It's been a few weeks since the MLB season wrapped up and we're starting to look ahead to the off-season moves to come. With that in mind we turn to Andrew Stoeten to help us unpack what's real and what's fiction. We kick things off taking one final look back at the Toronto Blue Jays decision to bring back their coaching staff with just some minor tweaks. From there talk turns to Vladimir Guerrero Jr and what another down season might mean for his future contract. A couple of baseball insiders have loosely tied the Jays to the Shohai Ohtani sweepstakes. Is there any chance at all that's for real? And what else should Toronto be trying to do to their lineup over the next few months.Check out all Stoeten's work at: https://stoeten.substack.com/And check out Stoeten's podcast Blue Jays Happy Hour wherever you get your pods.Leafs 365 by Mike Commito: https://amzn.to/3sJqxJpKen Reid's Hometown Hockey Heroes: https://amzn.to/49mYgso”Freedom To Win” by Ethan Scheiner: https://amzn.to/40ucdATSmash - The 90s Punk Explosion: https://amzn.to/49lgE4V Follow TCA on bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/tallcanaudio.bsky.socialFollow TCA on Threads: https://www.threads.net/@tallcanaudioFollow TCA on Twitter: https://twitter.com/tallcanaudioFollow TCA on Instagram: https://instagram.com/tallcanaudio?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Follow TCA on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tallcanaudio

On Tuesday MLB Ownership announced that they were cancelling regular season games as their self-inflicted work stoppage continues. We're joined today by a couple guys who have been following it closely in Andrew Stoeten of TheBatFlip.ca and Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star. We'd love it if you'd take a second to support the podcast by leaving a rating and a review there on your app. It makes a big difference for us and only takes a moment. Lots to cover today including the quick disappearance of optimism on Monday night that a deal might be close, whether we should be surprised at how any of this has played out, what this work stoppage is all about, what comes next and when this may all be solved and finally how the Toronto Blue Jays specifically fit in to this equation. And since talking business instead of on-field baseball is painful, we wrapped things up with a little actual Jays talk and how much fun the couple weeks in between a deal being reached and the season actually starting could be with tons of player movement. We were pretty lucky to land such knowledgeable guests for a show like this so a huge thanks to the guys for joining us. We're happy to joined once more by Jays writer Andrew Stoeten of TheBatFlip.ca to do just that. We'd love it if you'd take a moment to leave us a star rating on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. It just takes a second but it helps us out a great deal. On the lineup card today: Stoeten's recent run in with the 'rona, the heartbreaking finish to the Blue Jays season, moves that the front office have made thus far including big money deals to Jose Berrios and Kevin Gausman to firm up the rotation, losing Robbie Ray, where Ryu may slot in to the mix after a tough finish to the year, what the Jays may be looking for when free agency reopens, whether or not opting to renovate the SkyDome instead of building a new ballpark was the right move, what's on our Wishlist for the upgraded park and some thoughts on possible changes to the MLB Playoff system. All that and lots more from one of the brightest minds covering the blue birds. Find his work at stoeten.substack.com or follow him on Twitter @AndrewStoeten. We're now just one sleep away from the Opening Day of the Major League Baseball season where the Toronto Blue Jays will kick things off against the New York Yankees. We're joined by long time Jays writer Andrew Stoeten to get you set. Please take a moment to leave a rating and a review for the podcast and make sure you're subscribed wherever you're listening today. We kick things off with the usual beer talk with Andrew as he recommends a brewery or two local to his neck of the woods up in Peterborough. And of course we need to ask him about his career path getting started at a little operation called "Drunk Jays Fans" that grew fast and set him on his way. Getting in to the meat of the show we take a look at the big moves the team made this off season and what may have been surprising. Later on talk turns to who exactly is going to pitch for this team and whether or not it's going to be good enough to keep them in the race. And with the big additions made to the line up should we expect this team to score pretty much at will? Finally - a couple World Series predictions and where we think the Blue Jays will finish up. Andrew is a terrific writer with a great sense of humour that makes his work must read. You can find his new project at TheBatFlip.ca and follow him on Twitter @AndrewStoeten. We hear all the time of good stories where athletes come from nowhere to be stars in their sport at all levels, so why not add one from the other side to the feel good list? We all could use a heart warming tale no?Well, this isn't as much of a tale as it is a discussion about all things Blue Jays, but a discussion with Andrew Stoeten is in fact a good story. Andrew tells how he came to be one of the brightest and most respected writers covering the Blue Jays and baseball in the GTA and Canada.Andrew and Jonah Sigel discuss the Alex Anthopoulos years, the transition from Beeston to Shaprio, the passing of the torch up to the current state of the franchise. Was Vladdy overhyped, what they should Rogers do with the stadium, what is holding back renovations and is the manager doing a good job are among the things Andrew dishes on.If you are baseball fan and, or a fan of the Blue Jays you will enjoy this session.

Right before hitting record on this episode, Brendan's cat, Dot, stepped on his computer's off button and shut the whole thing down. Kinda like Chris Sale and the Red Sox season. In this, the 39th episode of Red Sox Coast to Coast, Brendan and Matt (and Dot) discuss what potentially losing Sale could mean to the Red Sox in 2020. They discuss the state of the rotation, and what adding Collin McHugh means to it. Then Matt gets on the horn with Andrew Stoeten of The Athletic and the Birds All Day Podcast to discuss the Toronto Blue Jays, their off-season, and how things look for them headed into the season. It was a fun conversation! If you enjoy the episode, that's fantastic! Thanks!
