June 15 2026- Botched Chop Shop Investigation Becomes Bowers' Biggest Blunder

Last year - Winnipeg Police got a search warrant for an illegal hobo shack on the riverbank in the East Exchange District seemingly operating a bicycle chop shop. Last week - Marty Gold had an exclusive interview with the lawyer of one of the accused, after the controversial case was dropped by the Crown. This week - We review a letter sent to the Winnipeg Sun by police chief Gene Bowers after the warrant was acquired- and in Episode 25 ask listeners to judge whether Bowers owes the citizens of Winnipeg an apology after the case fell apart.Part 1- A brief recap of Marty's report on Sunday about a family told they could leave by employees at an East Kildonan pool after they complained about a pair of “absolutely perfectly symmetrical” breast implants being paraded around by a topless male. Then, an explanation of how his reports about the distortion of annual crime statistics and subsequent interview with lawyer Martin Glazer about the flawed riverbank investigation were incorporated into Kevin Klein's excellent column "Winnipeg's crime statistics no longer reflect lived reality." The publisher of the Sun, Klein stated- "When administrative and legal outcomes become the filter through which crime is counted, the statistics stop reflecting what actually happened in this city. They reflect what the system managed to process and prove... The question worth asking is not whether crime is down on paper. It is whether the paper reflects the street."Every city council candidate should be required to read it and respond.20.05 Part 2- "The article by Mr. Gold demands a response by the Winnipeg Police Service" wrote chief Bowers to the Winnipeg Sun last September, "and Inspector Helen Peters deserves an apology from its author and publisher."Bowers called the column questioning Peter's qualifications to manage the investigation and evaluate if a warrant was needed "a personal attack by a media outlet (that) does not align with the principles of ethical journalism nor does it serve the public interest."As you will hear, considering the flaws Mr. Glazer identified in both the warrant and the investigation - which failed to link the accused to either the shack or to any stolen goods as charged- the last thing Bowers should have been doing was spouting off about how journalists covered the actions of his staff. Bowers and his predecessor, Danny 'Hug-a-Thug' Smyth allowed the mayhem generated by illegal encampments to proliferate and endanger public safety. Was that "ethical"?Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Sun led the way in exposing the violence, theft, and environmental damage allowed by police and elected officials - including former mayor Brian Bowman and then Scott Gillingham - to degrade the quality of life for residents and business owners in the North End, Point Douglas, Downtown, West Broadway, Fort Rouge and West End neighborhoods.35.55- The failure of the high-profile case has attracted the attention of legal minds across Canada- and has resulted in some good questions being raised about how Bowers and his staff could be held accountable. Listen to the potential pathways for members of the public to do so, even if Mayor Gillingham and City Councillors won't. As Kevin Klein wrote- "When major enforcement operationsfall apart in court, police leadership should explain what went wrong rather than go silent. Accountability is not a political attack. It is basic governance."****** The Season Seven Funding Campaign has raised $1630 thus far. The Minister of Families, Nahanni Fontaine, behaved like a petulant teenager during the budget debate and crossed a red line that must be addressed and denounced by House Speaker Tom Lindsay and all Manitoba MLAs. In Episode 23 we have the audio from the Legislature and describe her unacceptable antics.Part 1- Marty Gold reviews the content produced in the pages of the Winnipeg Sun and on the podcast in the month of May. The wide range of stories, interviews, and analysis provides the evidence that when readers and listeners support the Season 7 Funding Drive, the narratives are challenged and elected officials and bureaucrats are held accountable and are forced to respond. Fontaine was trying to run interference for the likes of her BFF, Addictions Minister Bernadette Smith, and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara. The self-styled "Squad" have two things in common - they all represent impoverished and struggling north end and inner city areas, and all three have failed in their portfolios. Just ask the kids who died in CFS care, the addicts who can't find treatment beds, and the patients who've died in ERs and on waiting lists. But as you'll hear, the thinly-veiled man-hating of Fontaine was the least of the offensive behavior from the Legislature's Queen of Mean. The reel, posted by the Tories online, included video from the just-concluded budget debate, showing the contempt Fontaine has for the very office she holds as Government House leader. While the opposition urged the Kinew NDP to amend the budget and raise the tax-free income bracket limit to bring relief to Manitoba's families, Fontaine started watching a Hollywood big budget movie while the House was in session. With her dirty high heels perched on the seat next to her.As you'll hear, this was an act of contempt towards the entire House. Flin Flon MLA Tom Lindsay is the Speaker and has already been dragged by Kinew for daring to try to curtail the inflammatory accusations like "transphobe", "racist", and "bigot" hurled by the NDP at Khan and opposition members. Lindsay is going to have to decide if he will upbraid Fontaine for her lack of decorum and force her to apologize, or be intimidated by her into silence, the way she wants to silence all criticism of the women in the NDP caucus. ****To comment on our coverage, send story tips, or inquire about ways to contribute towards the Season Seven campaign or advertise on the podcast, please email martygoldlive@gmail.com

The public continues to question the effectiveness of homelessness and addictions agencies and programs- and none is under more scrutiny than the NDP's plan for a safe consumption site in North Logan. Episode 21 has a recap of the panel discussion held Tuesday night and audio of presentations made by Coun. Sherri Rollins and the federal health critic, Manitoba MP Dan Mazier.Part 1- Two columns this week provided readers of the Winnipeg Sun with details about A) the financial cliff that Siloam Mission is approaching: “When you kick out Jesus, you kick out his flock ofgivers,” a church-going reader said. “I know some of the former workers who moved on to other charitable work.”Siloam Mission went woke, now going brokeB) the community-organized panel discussion about operating plans for a drug user site at 366 Henry Avenue:“The deflection I witnessed from city representatives was appalling,” said a Point Douglas homeowner. “There's clearly a responsibility for all levels of government, andthe nuances and the intricacies were just lost on so many.”Panelists provide evidence that safe consumptionsites unsafe, ineffective 18.40 Part 2- Marty notes the demographics of the crowd, which drew concerned residents and property owners with personal experience with homeless encampments and the effects of drug addiction and crime on their community. From North and South Point Douglas, the East Exchange, North Logan, Centennial, Downtown, and Fort Rouge, they outflanked the SCS "harm reduction" supporters by an 80-20 margin. Among those watching and listening was Independent MLA Mark Wasilyw, and many PC MLAs; not there, were any representatives of Wab Kinew's NDP government that is ramming the drug use site through to fulfill his election promise.23.50 - Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre CEO Monica Cyr tried to reassure the public. She said new medical and treatment programs are included in the building renovations, and the SCS will operate out of a vehicle parked on the lot until next February. She later admitted there was good reason to expand the area where security patrols and clean-up had been proposed in their "Good Neighbour" policy. We explain why that tardy realization actually lost her ground with stakeholders. 28.50- Audio of Coun. Sherri Rollins (7 min.): She spoke of the inadequate public consultation process undermining the residents, funding shortfalls affecting mental health and police services, the existing danger in the district, and the sight of drugs being used all over the streets. "Winnipeg cannot be absorbing the consequences of a provincial system that has not evolved or matured."You'll hear how later in the meeting Rollins drew a negative reaction from ward stakeholders to her contention that the city had no ability to regulate public safety mitigation for the site, even though the Health Canada rules say otherwise. 40.45 Part 3- Audio of CPC MP Dan Mazier (9 min.): His eye-opening remarks included what an addict told him about why 'harm reduction' giveaways discourage seeking treatment; taking on the left-wing lingo of saying there is a way to use fentanyl and hard drugs 'safely'; "imaginary buffer zones" and how a daycare in Ottawa was forced to close due to disorder and filth; and how Health Canada uses a 'rubber stamp' - and leaves it to neighborhoods to fight for their survival."Approving a place for people can consume drugs is the easiest thing a politician can do. It avoids the difficult serious expensive work of building real treatment and real recovery pathways. Instead it keeps people addicted, dependent and cycling through the same revolving door."Mazier predicted after this one, more sites would open, and then the radical left will demand the "BC roadmap" for safe supply and decriminalization - even though BC has reversed course.Marty provides more analysis to close the episode.****To sponsor TGCTS podcasts and support the Season 7 Funding Drive- email martygoldlive@gmail.com

May 12th will mark the opening of the horse racing season at Assiniboia Downs, and in Episode 20 we speak with a perennial front-runner in the win column, jockey Antonio Whitehall!Part 1 has an overview of the kick-off luncheon, the notable attendees, and the remarks of the CEO of ASD, Darren Dunn. With the 69th season of live racing scheduled to open on Tuesday evening with the Don Gray Memorial, the new season is building on record-setting wagering and the best attendance in a decade in 2025, with both the excitement of the races and promotions like Family Fun Night drawing enthusiastic crowds of all ages.A key aspect of the evolution of the track has been scheduling race nights to Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, with six Mondays also on tap this year. That move eliminated the problem of competing for attendance with other sports and community events and “lake life” on the weekends, and ASD has grown their customer base substantially.Owned by the non-profit Manitoba Jockey Club since 1993, the importance of ASD to Manitoba's economic sector includes, on the agriculture side, support for the stables with breeding and training, grooms and exercise riders, feed and equipment. In terms of staging the races and events, the facility employs hundreds of people as service personnel, chefs, cooks, security and at the betting windows. ASD also provides substantial support to local charities and causes. The revitalization of the facility has been achieved through a joint partnership with Peguis First Nation, and CEO Darren Dunn says it all reflects on how the Downs “is part of the cultural fabric of the community since 1958- and we're very proud of that.” Their pride is also reflected in the race results as over the past 17 years, “thirteen of the annual leading trainers have been of indigenous heritage.”9.58 Part 2- Antonio Whitehall is an engaging and personable athlete who truly loves his work and the fans of the King of Sports.Since arriving at ASD in 2016 from Barbados, he has become a dominant rider with three titles as top jockey and is in demand at other tracks. He's been in the money (top three spots) with over 50% of his mounts and has earned $5.6 million for the horse owners.Whitehall cites his relationship with the trainers as an important factor in his success.“We get along pretty good because I'm a hard worker. I go out there every morning and work out the horse and give them honest feedback. They trust me with their horses and I'm grateful and thankful for the opportunity. It's like I was meant to be here.”He talks with Marty Gold about his background in Barbados, his accomplishments and "dream year" in 2020, and the great owners, trainers, stablehands and staff who come together to make ASD a model venue for the athletes, owners and fans.“They come here, they feel safe here, it's friendly, free admission… it's a beautiful place to come out in the evening, enjoy your time, place a few bets, watch the horses go around.  It's a beautiful place to be, the atmosphere, the staff are phenomenal.” Whitehall enjoys meeting with the fans, mentioning giving kids goggles and posing for photos. “I do it for the game, for the love of the sport- and for the love of Assiniboia Downs.”The conversation takes a turn as the subject of this year's Kentucky Derby and the tremendous run down the stretch by the winning horse, Golden Tempo, is discussed.Among the highlights of the season will be the 50th running of the Golden Boy Stakes and the marquee event, the 2026 Manitoba Derby on Monday, August 3rd. With the on-site food and games, the spectacle of competition, and the potential of picking a winning ticket, there's never been a better time to Do the Downs than this year. An attempt by the operators of a planned drug user site to sway North Logan residents and property owners to support the 366 Henry Avenue project has backfired after a 10 page document was distributed. In Episode 19, we read the cover letter from Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre CEO Monica Cyr and review the "Good Neighbour Commitment" package that's long on jargon, short on answers, and full of holes about how AHWC will ensure public safety.Part 1- A look at the previous episode with Kelly Ryback on urgent city issues and a look ahead to the next episode about Assiniboia Downs and the upcoming horse racing season. We set up this edition with a recap of Marty's latest Winnipeg Sun column - North Logan residents balk at consumption site safety pitch In the aftermath of the AHWC door-to-door handout, a Community Safety discussion is slated for Tuesday May 12 from 6-9 pm at Pampanga Hall, 349 Henry Ave.Panelists include Cyr, Fort Rouge Councillor Sherri Rollins, Winnipeg Police chief Gene Bowers, federal Opposition Health Critic Dan Mazier (MP- Riding Mountain), and Manitoba PC MLA Wayne Balcaen, who is also the former police chief in Brandon. 16.00 Part 2- You'll hear about the FAQ included in the package, the information it did and did not provide, the claims it made about the experiences of other (unnamed) cities with crime and disorder, how "trained staff" will handle safety, and the ridiculous timelines to respond to complaints. Notably, AHWC admitted the "interim service"- which will operate out of a parked vehicle on the lot until the building is renovated - will only test drugs and help addicts get high (ie "harm reduction"), and will not offer referrals to rehab and other help until the facility is opened. Missing was any mention that the federal government might not approve the application for a permanent site.27.20- A review of the "community cohorts" named- and whether the public should have confidence in those organizations and in their involvement with a safe consumption site. Sunshine House, in particular, is under scrutiny for the way their mobile drug site van was licenced and operates when an overdose or assault occurs. Another witness has stepped forward casting doubt on the competency of their staff.Hear about a neighborhood walk planned for theNorth Logan area on Saturday at 2 pm. It will provide a ground-level view if the AHWC plan will be adequate to address concerns. Even though their outreach is deliberately narrowed, other nearby residential streets - and Chinatown - will be impacted by the SCS. 41.00 Part 3- A reading of Monica Cyr's pitch to stakeholders. Her terminology reflects an ideology that removes the personal responsibility of drug users for their plight, while failing to provide any data to verify the performance of her organization to fight addiction. 51. 44- While Cyr cites a number of the 'partners' and 'supporters' on board with her organization's consumption site plan, there's a glaring omission- the Manitoba Metis Federation. We ask why. Then, a health care professional with years of experience with addicts and in homeless shelters provided us an insider's view of the promises and claims made in the handout- and exposes the double-talk, hidden meanings and operational deficiencies of their proposal. Our source maintains the social disorder will be deflected into surrounding streets, so who is really being protected by the 8 foot fence? Which businesses will “flourish” with a drug den next door? Wait till you find out the tricks used to rig crime stats near such sites to be lowered, and who authored the study that AHWC is relying on to prove to the neighbours that such sites don't increase danger to communities.*****Our investigative journalism relies on the financial support of listeners and readers. April ends with controversy at City Hall - Episode 18 reviews two stories that's put the pressure on council. Part 1- Marty briefly touches on his attendance at the 2026 Retail Crime Prevention Conference at X-Cues Event Centre and the comments of "harm reduction" workers to the audience, and then on his most recent Winnipeg Sun columns.- You'll be seeing some public relations posts online by Sunshine House, which operate a MOPS (mobile drug use enabling) van. This week, the violence around their service locations, and the way they acquired federal drug site exemption, are under the microscope. Read why - Sisler High School in the North End has earned praise for building a powerhouse in Reach For The Top competitions, winning the Manitoba senior high championship this year.9.40 Part 2- Kelly Ryback is one of the best friends taxpayers have when it comes to monitoring spending and best practices by City Council. He joins TGCTS to review his findings on two important files. The decision to accept a bid from American-owned Aramark to provide food and beverage services at Windsor Park and Kildonan golf courses came at the expense of longtime provider 'Sals'. Ryback says his research shows it's also coming at the expense of local golfers, with far higher pricing than the Winnipeg-owned and operated restaurant chain. The city giving only ten days notice of the change added to concerns about what was in play with the deal- such as revenue sharing or other considerations. Ryback goes through the operational aspects typically considered in such RFP bids, and the political fallout for Mayor Gillingham and other councillors. Even though many on Council have said they aren't happy that bureaucrats claim Sals didn't make the cut, they could be carrying the bag when 'Canada first' voters cast their ballots in October.30.40 Part 3- Kelly Ryback has been involved with the historic Grant's Old Mill on west Portage Avenue for years. Hear him explain the work he and other community volunteers have done to keep it going and raise funds - and provincial government funding commitments - to maintain and improve the facility. As the city dawdled and reversed course on committing annual budget funding, the window to fix the building passed by and it's now been declared beyond repair. Winnipeg Sun: City hall failure shuts historic Winnipeg MillRyback says that area Councillor Shawn Dobson has only attended half of one board meeting in 2 1/2 years, and his failure to meet with advocates and support the project and help meet required deadlines risked the provincial money, and has contributed to the current crisis. Ryback says the Mayor knew about Dobson's flippant attitude and said he'd speak with the St. James councilman. Ryback and Marty discuss the background of the mill site, the legend of Cuthbert Grant starting agricultural commerce in the region, and his standing as a Metis leader.49.52- “Is this now an election issue in St James- Assinboia?”“Yes it is.”Ryback, who was a candidate for the ward seat in 2022, gives an overview of the community affected, the role of former Premier Ed Schreyer whose administration funded the mill as a Winnipeg Centennial Project in 1974, and the role the Manitoba Metis Federation can play. However, unless the chips fall into place and includes sufficient city funding beyond the rebuild for park enhancements and other equipment, Grant's Old Mill may not be open to the public until 2031. Joseph Fourre intended to hold a press conference on Wednesday regarding a shady Health Canada drug site exemption that he wants revoked. When the founder of the Singing Red Bear Foundation got to the site, he saw disorder, violence and a woman who was assaulted get blamed by the site operators. Part 1- Episode 17 opens with a brief recap of Marty's recent columns in the Winnipeg Sun:"They're the epitome of cancel culture. They come into theneighborhood, harass the synagogue attendees, harass senior citizens walking by, and accuse anyone who isn't on board with being complicit in what they call genocide. That's not free speech.” According to John Collison, the harassment also targeted innocent children."Cops escort Jew-haters to River Heights, then blame passer-by for their aggressive anger"The Winnipeg Police Service has shifted Inspector Helen Peters out of her role as liason for the facility... (and) If Aboriginal Health and Wellness officials, who will be handing out needles at their site to addicts, want to be taken seriously about dealing with dirty rigs, they need to broaden the pick-up range substantially, and self-impose a needle return rate."More changes to safe consumption site plan needed to sway opponents7.22 Part 2- Based on a Free Press article about the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre claiming they would have a 'Good Neighbour' policy around the planned drug user facility at 366 Henry Avenue, Joseph Fourre decided it was time to speak out about whether the organization, and their so-called cohorts, are able to do even the minimum required to keep the public safe. Before he spoke, he went to the parking lot near Main and Logan beside a treatment centre, where Sunshine House parks a MOPS van around noon to enable addicts, 5 days a week. Sunshine House has been designated as providers of similar services for the Henry site until the building is renovated. In short order, "it was chaos." A recovering heroin addict who previously utilized a consumption site in Edmonton, Fourre describes watching a couple overdosing on the sidewalk with no urgency from the MOPS van staff to help them. Then, the woman who runs the Edge Gallery tried to shoo users getting high in the doorway- and walked over to the van to complain. "Out of nowhere" a lady came over and "smoked her" in the face, cutting her beside the left eye. According to Fourre, MOPS staff blamed the victim for "inciting" the attack, and police ignored four calls from her asking for help, with blood streaming down her face."I was appalled," he said, confirming there are no spotters from the Health Canada-approved van to monitor the surroundings for overdoses or violent behavior. Fourre tells about addicts wanting detox treatment beds, and finding out they're on their own thanks to the NDP's fixation on supervising consumption. 24.45 Part 3- Fourre explains that Edge Gallery is about to lose funding because children coming for arts classes are not safe in the area, and the MOPS van perpetuates the danger. He reveals the approval of the Sunshine House application to be exempt from drug laws is being challenged because the public consultation was manipulated to suppress the concerns of business owners and the general public. Marty tells about his review of the paperwork. None of this inspires confidence that the Henry site will be kept safe. With the NDP only opening day beds for treatment, Fourre insists a change of direction is needed to get addicts into meaningful recovery, "a therapeutic model." As for the NDP's claim of a "mandate" to open a site, he says the pushback at the town halls proved that's untrue and reflects the end result of 60 years of NDP rule in Point Douglas. Fourre predicts that when the consumption site falls apart, AHWC "will be the ones holding the bag" and that the fact 25-30% of overdose deaths are first time users is being ignored.****To donate towards our Season 7 costs, email martygoldlive@gmail.com

Coming from the Lord Selkirk housing projects, as a kid he collected beer bottles with his wagon to cash in. But the decline of the area troubles him:"I would not let my 9 year old walk that area now, it's not safe... people do not feel safe in Mynarski and the North End and I would like to bring back safety."He says problems with Transit, potholes, snow removal on sidewalks, and community parks are being raised by people urging him to stand for election. Also, how "we have not taken care of downtown." 26.22 Part 3- Brazil talks about the marketing successes of Mr. Bones Pizza in the 90's, and admits that their business model would be challenged nowadays by safety concerns for their delivery drivers and store staff. He also speaks about his experiences as an ER nurse.33.40- Brazil explains that city council's failure to deal with public disorder and arson is undercutting the investment of longtime homeowners in Winnipeg neighborhoods. "The closer you get to downtown, it gets harder to sell and these houses are on the market for 30 days or more."Hear him describe how private mortgage lenders are redlining certain areas of the city, including the North End near St. John's Park. You would think that when a city councillor - who has long been identified as profoundly sympathetic to the "harm reduction" ideology and the plight of the homeless and drug addicts - announces she opposes the provincial plan to open a supervised consumption site in her ward, it would be BIG news. It's been over a week, but Winnipeg broadcasters haven't told the public yet. And that's the focus of Episode 15.Part 1- A recap of the reasons cited by Point Douglas councillor Vivian Santos for deciding the NDP's election promise of a drug user facility "meeting users where they are at" would overwhelm the North Logan neighborhood she represents, and a review of our coverage in the Winnipeg Sun and on the TGCTS podcast. We broke the news, and for some reason local newsrooms receiving large federal wage and operating subsidies didn't deem it newsworthy. 10.45- What are the chances that in a city with four television newsrooms, and a couple of radio stations still offering reporting, not one of them told the public that Coun. Santos was standing against Premier Wab Kinew, Addictions Minister Bernadette Smith, and the left-wing social agencies she usually courts? Marty Gold juxtaposes the cone of silence about the tide turning against the safe consumption site with CBC reporting on a Siloam Mission event where the media was deliberately not invited by the embattled CEO, Sonia Prevost-Derbecker. When the legacy media gets frozen out on something, that's news. When a city council chair goes nose to nose and head to head with the Minister who is also the area MLA, it isn't deemed important enough to even mention. Hear what concerned citizens can do about that.19.55 Part 2- Odds and ends, including:- Not a single newsroom raised a red flag about Sheila North saying she'll continue to be a consultant to the Winnipeg Police Service despite being elected chief of her home reserve. She admits her job is to advocate for her stakeholders, and real journalists know that means the Police Board will have to consider whether there's a potential conflict of interest.- The lack of curiosity about North's comments lead to a discussion of the bias that local and national media have towards colleagues who move into active political careers.- Marty tells the story of when he first met Scott Oake, now headed to retirement from sports broadcasting. CBC itself couldn't get the facts accurate about Oake's start in Winnipeg, but we remember.******Our column last week in the Sun did what no other mediaoutlet in the entire country did- look into the radical views and opinions of Canada's new Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joss Reimer. While waiting for Speaker Devi Sharma to find out what happened, an email arrived that had been sent by Vivian Santos to stakeholders in the Point Douglas ward about the NDP's proposed safe consumption facility.First, you'll hear a ringing endorsement from a longtimejournalist and political insider about our work covering the SCS issue - and how we've asked some very significant questions and held the government to account. 14.11 Part 2- The press release by Coun. Vivian Santos was sent so late on Friday, and the lede buried so deep, none of the broadcast newsrooms recognized the big news: there's now a deep rift in the "harm reduction" movement. As we reported in the Winnipeg Sun:“Minister Smith and I both represent Point Douglas, and I know she cares deeply about this community and the people we serve. While we share that commitment, do not agree with this particular path forward and, at this time, I do not support opening a permanent supervised consumption site at 366 Henry Avenue.”16.46- Listeners will hear the press release, the cover letter Santos sent to residents and business owners after 5 pm onFriday, and the 851 word statement explaining why she now shares with theneighborhood 's fears of being overwhelmed. However, she also raised questions for Kinew about considering better consultations and a more well-rounded approach to addiction treatment. 29.43- Santos also shut the door on answeringany further questions. Hear what has gone on behind the scenes. We have details of the repeated emails from concernedresidents that have been sent to Santos, city council, Kinew, Smith, federal officials including area MP Leah Gazan, and public servants, seeking meetings to clarify their positions and ways that addictions programs can advance at less costs and with better results.****The mandate of ActionLine.ca is to carry on the hard-nosed, ask tough questions approach pioneered on Winnipeg radio by Peter Warren. We receive NO government funding for our work holding governments, institutions and the legacy media accountable. When you contribute to our Season Seven Support campaign, those funds go to paying for web hosting, back-end and technical support, transportation and other costs that are incurred in our investigations and analysis of public affairs. To make a donation, or to advertise on our podcast, please email martygoldlive@gmail.com

Wab Kinew gulped hard after he read our three exclusive reports in the Winnipeg Sun (here, here and here) about planning documents filed with Health Canada for his promised safe consumption site, and on Monday he backed down. "I have realized that I want this thing to be done right, I don't want it to be done quickly.”Well then... what should be done about the Free Press pundit who demanded it be done quickly regardless of whether it was done right?Episode 12 Part 1 - A brief update for concerned listeners on a recent health issue that for now, won't be affecting our ongoing reporting in the Sun and on the podcast7.00 Part 2- On December 17th, Winnipeg Free Press Dan Lett columnist complained:"At a consultation this week, (Addictions Minister Bernadette) Smith was once again bombarded with allegations that her plan for a supervised consumption site is not fully fleshed out... Ninety days later, on March 16th, Canadian Press reported: "The Manitoba government is walking back comments that asupervised drug consumption site could open soon, with Premier Wab Kinew saying the province is taking some time to get things right... It could take months for a networkof services to be set up, he said..."So... the critics of the SCS plan who live in Winnipeg were right, and "harm reduction" champion Dan Lett who lives in Ontario was wrong. How inconvenient.Hear why Dan Lett now owes those people an apology.Listen to a review of Lett's December column and how completely unhinged his comments now appear to be, after Kinew has echoed neighborhood stakeholder concerns about how the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre intended to run the drug user facility without proper oversight by Bernadette Smith. ******Here is our latest column with an analysis of Kinew's comments about why he's stalling on opening the SCS:https://www.winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/fumbling-ndp-fails-in-safe-consumption-site-rollout/article_628425ac-86e0-4c7b-87d3-186c6af63960.html*****A former Winnipeg School trustee posted: "Is Marty the only media person who has been able to shape this provincial government this much JUST by exposing the truth?"Among the list of successes:1. Episode 10 addresses a CBC report about Premier Wab Kinew claiming the province had no idea - for months- that his government didn't need to wait for federal approval to open a safe consumption site.Part 1- A brief review of the latest columns from Marty Gold in the Winnipeg Sun, which include:Downtown BIZ survey exposes city's Transit woes; Bad news that Gillingham and Lukes can't spinWinnipeg Metropolitan Region membership meltdown; Sinking ship has lost more members than it now has aboardSecret SCS files raise safety alarms; NDP's consumption site plan lets minors in and lets impaired drivers leave20.16 Part 2- Last Thursday, CBC Manitoba reported: "Premier Wab Kinew says the province has learned it no longer needs Health Canada approval to open a supervisedconsumption site under the "urgent public health needs" stream.”Anchor Brittany Greenslade: “So Ian, what changed?"Reporter Ian Froese: “It's not exactly clear, Brittany.”Despite CBC having an enormous taxpayer-funded budget, thousands of journalists, hundreds of producers and dozens of researchers, they couldn't be bothered to even look into if and how Wab Kinew was duping them.We explain how, and why it's impossible to believe that the NDP government didn't know until last week.Get the details about how the application for the Henry Avenue site was filed under a different drug law exemption clause under Section 56 of the federal legislation than the abandoned Disraeli Freeway proposal. Even if Kinew didn't realize it (unlikely), then his Addictions Minister Bernadette Smith should have. Then again, as our Sun report about the 311 page Access To Information file released by Health Canada showed, she and officials from the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre repeatedly claimed no one had ever died at an SCS in Canada- yet the application for the Disraeli site specifically admitted a death had occurred. Does Smith not read the material she promotes, or does she just have a problem telling the truth to the public when it comes to her pet project? You'll hear an explanation of the differences between applying for a Sec. 56.1 exemption and a Sec. 56 (1) exemption, which is an "urgent public health need service" provision. That's the reason why CBC is confused- and should be admonished for failing to try to figure out the game the NDP is playing. A key difference is that under the UPHNS rules is that Bernadette Smith would not be responsible to the feds for the operation of the Henry site- it would be a name that has not been mentioned once by Kinew or Smith. Was the NDP trying to shield their embattled Health Minister from public and media scrutiny by keeping the name of Uzoma Asagwara out of their SCS narratives? Because it's Asagwara who will have to defend the policies of allowing children to use drugs at the site and allowing drivers to get their fix and leave. *****Unlike CBC, we don't get taxpayer subsidies or anygovernment funding. That's because she thinks it will save taxpayers money, and the extra time and added inconvenience for motorists and neighborhood residents won't amount to much. In reality, she's doing the bidding of radicals within the bike lobby who see drivers as menaces, vehicles as the enemy of mankind, and proper public consultation as a tool of oppression. Her killing, a frenzied sexual assault and stabbing, left her family and the wider community fearing a predator was on the loose. For years, detectives chased dead ends and even a dramatic prison confession, but the real killer remained a mystery. Episode 61 reviews an editorial from Don Woodstock about the insistence of City Councillors and Mayor Scott Gillingham to disregard a ruling by the Municipal Board and ram through a Housing Accelerator Fund "affordable" apartment building on the west parking lot of the Granite Curling Club. "When a win-win requires one side to give up land, parking, certainty, and peace of mind while being told the details will come later, it is fair to ask whether the benefits are truly shared."Given the effect on the viability of the Club, a squeeze on area parking, and the persistent threat to neighbourhood liveability by a lawless encampment in the adjacent Mostyn Park that was allowed after every major blaze to re-establish itself and endanger the community, Woodstock's points about the proposed 11-storey project should be addressed and not dismissed out of hand. "Winnipeg needs housing. That is not in dispute," wrote Woodstock. "But how housing is built matters. Site selection matters. Spillover impacts matter. Transparency matters. And whether the public can clearly see who benefits matters."(We note that according to Heritage Winnipeg - "The redevelopment plans are in collaboration with the University of Winnipeg Community Renewal Corporation 2.0" and "the tender is being chosen by the city and the UWCRC, rather than through an open process as city-owned projects often are." December kicks off with a recap of the visit of a far-left member of the Canadian Senate who tried to tour the in-progress 'sobering centre' that Wab Kinew's NDP is opening at 190 Disraeli. Kim Pate - who represents Ontario- dismissed the idea that Winnipeg residents need protection from out of control meth and alcohol addicts.Part 1- A hard drive failure interrupted podcast production in late November but Episode 57 is here to get our public affairs coverage back on track. But when it comes to the women and general public who have endured years of harassment, abuse and violence at the hands of Winnipeg's criminally-inclined homeless addicts, she says the rights of the abusers comes before the rights of the public to a safe community. A clue why she spouts such nonsense comes from a 2017 interview, after Justin Trudeau handed her a taxpayer-funded lifetime job in the Senate: I've gone back to the call from the prime minister several times in my mind. He said he was offering this appointment based on my career as an activist. That was the word that stuck in my head: “activism.” So I thought, “Okay, well, let's go.” https://broadview.org/senator-kim-pate-wants-canada-to-get-rid-of-jails/Marty Gold explains the chicken-and-egg argument Pate hides behind to bolster her argument that "to actually put people in what can only be described as cells… I think it's rifefor a Charter challenge."Warding off arsons, robberies, thefts, vandalism, matters not to Pate. She thinks the detention process might "traumatize" the addicts, and seemingly offered no comment to the Free Press about the years of trauma inflicted on women, children, families, property owners, employees, theatre patrons, transit riders and others by the anti-social and violent behavior of the homeless encampment crowd. 30.30 -The attempt to visit the site on Friday exposed a broken promise by Wab Kinew.Remember it was supposed to open within two weeks of the Legislation being passed? The NDP gave the Free Press the scoop on a new plan to invoke an emergency authorization to open a drug user site. Dan Lett accordingly doubled down on the misinformation and myths used to attack the stakeholders who derailed the first safe consumption site plan. As Episode 56 explains, we saw how it really unfolded- and also noticed he got a key aspect of the new SCS plan wrong. Part 1-Our recent columns in the Winnipeg Sun peeled back the PR campaign pumping the tires of the Parking Authority's 5 year strategy- and it's apparent that trying to rig the upcoming public consultation will not be acceptable:"Would the City expand paid parking to Sargent Avenue in the West End, or to Marion Street in St. Boniface, or to Portage Avenue west of downtown or into St. James? That would cripple restaurants and stores in those neighbourhoods. Would the City charge disabled veterans to park outside the St. James or Norwood Legions? No one would put it past them."Nov. 12- New paid parking plan should require a Parking Authority Town Hall https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/gold-new-paid-parking-plan-should-require-a-parking-authority-town-hall"Introducing a “solution” where no problem exists only creates barriers, not improvements. We have a brief description of the panic it caused a certain councillor.15.40 Part 2- A news story in the Free Press indicated Premier Wab Kinew is trying a slightly more conciliatory approach togarnering buy-in for the idea of a safe injection site “west of Main Street” – part of the Centennial neighborhood. But Kinew would not reveal the actual address. The story confirmed that public consultation is mandatory under federal licencing laws. Mayor Scott Gillingham, for the first time, stood behind the importance of “hearing from residents and business owners as to their thoughts related to the potential impact on the area,” while Kinew “dodged the question” from PC leader Obby Khan about when consultations would take place. In a companion column, WFP pundit Dan Lett dodged the facts, claimed the site was again being aimed for Point Douglas and the East Exchange, and attacked the verybasis of requiring the consultations. Hear his distortions of the concerns and ideas that residents put on the table about 200 Disraeli to try to misinform his readers about how widespread - and well-informed the opposition was.32.50 - We juxtapose the comments of a Point Douglas resident in the news story - “We're beginning to feel like a drug rehab dumping ground around here," with the insistence of Lett that's "As it should be". Dismissing the working class residents and business owners as "champions of gentrification" and "squeaky wheels," Lett unloaded a big whopper- falsely claiming that "Supervised consumption and detox facilities do not make surrounding neighbourhoods unsafe; they make them safer and cleaner."Without ever attending one of the Town Halls about the 200 Disraeli proposal or speaking to the victims of the crime wave besieging residents and property owners, Ontario's Dan Lett set out a loathsome block of opinions about the people of Winnipeg in the pages of the Free Press. He works in the City Planning department, and the latest plan of Kyle Roche is to become the councillor for Elmwood - East Kildonan. Our series of interviews with the candidates in the October 25th by-election continues in Episode 50 of Season 6. Part 1- "If I was satisfied with how City Hall is handling things, I wouldn't be running for Council."He's worked in a few different city departments, and Kyle Roche has a different way of approaching what's going on- and going wrong- in Winnipeg. Hear him describe having his bike stolen and why he put locks on his gates. "We need more police... (but) is spending $1 1/2 million a year leasing a helicopter really helping to reduce the crime?"12.35- Roche believes that "Winnipeg is hundreds or thousands of employees short" due to lower per capita spending compared to other cities. Roche argues that even though there is widespread distrust of city planners, many more need to be hired. While he wouldn't rule out a tax increase, he believes "the city would have millions more dollars if the railways at least paid their fair share."27.42 Part 2 - Loss of on-street parking was just one of the reasons why the proposed Marion bike lanes “had some controversy.” So was lack of consultation- but Roche insists that the problem is city council refusing to allocate funding for more staff. Roche discusses the city's performance with public communication and stalling off public delegations. He isn't opposed to putting five proposed supportive housing sites on the market for sale, instead of handing them over to the province.40.10- The idea of building a new Louise Bridge finds favour with Roche instead of a "25 year band-aid". He cites truck and commuter traffic that needs to be kept moving. He questions why, unlike users of Kenaston Blvd., east side and north end residents "don't get a cost-benefit analysis. Is our (wasted) time worth less?" 44.00- On encampments, Roche says "It's not a safe way to live and the fact it's gotten to this point reflects a failure at so many levels," but "when we're telling people to pack up and leave, where are we telling them to go?" He's asked why No Camping signs at Memorial Park are enforced by the province- but aren't by the city in Fort Douglas. "I totally get the point."Roche also talks about Community Safety Officers, Police Cadets, and not being satisfied with the status quo at 510 Main Street. "Watching things get not that much better, I couldn't sit on the sidelines anymore."More about his campaign is at kyleroche.ca******We'll be presenting interviews with the remaining two candidates in the Elmwood-East Kildonan by-election in the next week. Dr. Ted Rosenberg, who was raised in Winnipeg, has written a book Ayekha about the aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel and the meteoric rise he witnessed of antisemitic attitudes and actions in the medical field and in general society. Episode 47 presents our full interview with Dr. Rosenberg. He explains why he resigned from a 30 year teaching post at the University of British Columbia after the administration refused to confront the manifestation of Jew-hate in the medical school and among the faculty. He is sounding the alarm for the safety and Jewish staff and patients, and for the future of civil society in CanadaHere is Marty Gold's column in the Winnipeg Sun about the interview: An epidemic of Jew-hatred in medical schools and health care https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/gold-an-epidemic-of-jew-hatred-in-medical-schools-and-health-care13.43 Part 2 - Dr. Rosenberg explains that the groundwork for the almost immediate vitriolic blame and blood libels directed at Israel and Zionism after the Oct. 7th massacre was previously laid with an ideological and cultural shift in academia. As a result the United Nations and worldwide institutions "have become corrupted and systemically biased." Hear how Rosenberg's motivation to speak out started after a UBC resident was relentlessly harassed for mourning a friend slaughtered by Hamas and poisonous demonization became tolerated within the facility. 35.15 - "What we're seeing now in health care is a range, a spectrum, of problems for the Jewish public."Dr. Rosenberg and Marty Gold discuss the choices Jews are being forced to make as thousands of health care workers sign petitions that spout Hamas talking points and demonize Israel defending the country and try to recover the hostages in Gaza. "These aren't random outliers, this is becoming normalized." The antisemitic playbook, including BDS policies applied against Israeli professionals and Zionists and smears they represent "apartheid" and "colonialism", is becoming a standard across the western world as the percentage of Jews allowed into medical schools is dropping- "we've come full circle again.""As a country, people default to this blaming and not taking responsibility and that's the beginning of the end to a society," warned Rosenberg. "I see it as a threat - all of us in Canada are at risk that we as Jewish people are being torn from the Canadian tapestry systematically and that's not just a risk to Jewish people, it's a risk to all Canadians... but when non-Jewish people start to speak up about it, then things will start to happen ." Dr. Ted Rosenberg has included historical context and many valuable resources in his book -- Ayekha, Where Are You? After he was murdered while holding a debate in Utah, Nahanni Fontaine had to chime in, by reposting a vicious distortion of Kirk's character and Christian beliefs. It was so vile, even Wab Kinew called it "terrible" as he fielded a flood of emails demanding he take action. He told her to apologize but spurned calls for her removal from his cabinet. However his rationale stoked the controversy:‘We're going to work through this together, andI am going to try to help you understand why we need to bring people together and not to divide people at this time.'” Translation: This is costing the NDP voters because even her indigenous backers are appalled. But no one believes the mean-girl matriarch would change her ways- or deserves the chance to. "If @WabKinew refuses to fire Nahanni Fontaine heis telling a significant portion of the population that he does not give a shit if you are killed in front of your family for expressing unpopular opinions."Another listener pointed out: "She wouldn't have accepted an apology from anyone else."Listen to a sampling from our Facebook, Twitter and email feedback that suggests Kinew has painted himself into a corner. A women told us, "Her repeated lack of empathy, poor judgement, and lack in basic decency is well documented. This is a pattern, not a misstep... What's worse is that she's being shielded. The premier chose loyalty to a friend over responsibility to the people. The delays in repairing the Louise Bridge made Braydon Mazurkiewich decide to put his name on the ballot, and he's bringing a brash style of campaigning to the October 25th by-election in Elmwood- East Kildonan. Part 1 - He knows his way around political campaigns, but after the City of Winnipeg continually missed target dates to get the Louise Bridge open this, Braydon Mazurkiewich decided to try to succeed his late friend Jason Schreyer as councillor for Elmwood- East Kildonan. He takes credit for the flurry of work on-site to get repairs finished. We discusse his appearance at the community committee, where his call for a new bridge to be part of the next budget process was supported. Then he responds to the statements of Coun. Janice Lukes, chair of Public Works, dismissing the idea of a new bridge out of hand. "Maz" believes it's another example of people in the northeast quadrant getting the shaft while residents in southern wards like those of Lukes gets highways and recreation centres. He voices other criticism of the "elites" who he says call the shots at 510 Main Street. and "give lip service" to the needs of the EK ward. Marty Gold prompts a discussion about how difficult travel from the east side of Winnipeg going to the west is continually throttled. 14.00- Speaking to voters at the door, Maz says "it's all about the crime... we've got to clean up our city, man." He wants investment in youth programs and beat cops restored to the area as break-ins, vandalism and violence plague the businesses and residents like the seniors and veterans at the Legion Gardens - "they deserve some respect."19.57 Part 2- At City Hall, "I'm going to be the squeaky wheel." Maz says he's personally seen the brazen theft at the 7-Eleven and the stolen bike chop shops at illegal encampments on our riverbanks. "The city has dumped all their money to Main Street Project and it's not working... We have to find out who's doing a good job and support that one." 29.30 - Mazurkiewich is critical of how city neglect of the EK ward is affecting home equity by allowing the neighborhoods of "the hard working people" to slide, devaluing their homes. "This area needs some significant investment." 31.50- As for another candidate talking about being part of a "team" on council if they're elected, Maz says "the team you represent at city hall are the people that elect you in your ward so you can fight for every dollar that they deserve... I am on Team Elmwood-East Kildonan."The byelection is on October 25th. For more details on the Maz campaign, go to fightforelmwoodek.ca*****Marty Gold has been filing front page news in the Winnipeg Sun about important issues- here's the latest:- A city podcast recently described how “Inspector Helen Peters sees the glass half full for everything, particularly our downtown. Today, as a leader in downtown safety, she workshard so people can be proud of where they live.” She may be working hard, but no one is proud to live on Waterfront Drive, or in any of the districts where the theft, violence, screaming and mayhem are allowed by the authorities to carry on. For them the glass is not “half full.”Police warrants for homeless shacks on public property a new low in public safety- In July, Smith insisted the government was “on track” to have a facility opened by year's end. It was last week that she bumped the opening back to sometime before the end of the NDP's term in 2027. A week later Kinew said it was canned….They also did not reveal that a new application under Sec. 56.1 was already filed for a different SCS. And it was filed on July 4th.Why they kept this new application to replace the AHWC proposal a secret for almost two months is hard to figure, but it may have something to do with the proponents. The cat's out of the bag after Kinew plays coy about new drug site plan.Plus- Manitoba Teachers' Society needs a lesson on modern antisemitismClick here to support the Season Six funding drive

"I'm very much about getting the basics right and meeting the needs that we have before doing frivolous projects and shiny new builds of things."18.30- Prefontaine discusses the Louise Bridge in her ward and compares it to the repairs and reopening of Portage and Main. "I think it's odd that there was a plebiscite on that issue... I don't know why it was done and not adhered to."For her family, the new Transit schedules and routes are "very challenging" despite being close to Henderson Hwy, 29.34 Part 3 - What made Prefontaine decide to run? "It's always kind of been in the back of my mind," citing her work on other campaigns and seriovnmg on various boards. Hear her views of crime in the ward, community policing, support for housing, and homeless encampments- "I know people downtown feel afraid."As for the installation of $300,000 gym equipment in Juba Park being an example of vanity project spending, Prefontaine says, "I will actually agree with you on that."50.00- Prefontaine is on leave from her role as a vice-president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. In the Sun last Wednesday, Marty Gold pinpointed that crime became "acceptable" under Mayor Brian Bowman inWinnipeg in 2018, after bicycle theft skyrocketed and nothing was done to stop it. The column evoked strong reactions and opinions about what is happening, and what should be done now. Part 1 of Episode 42 opens with a reply from the police after speculation by Police Board chair, Coun. Markus Chambers, about reviving a bait bike program that no one realized had been abandoned. The police sent along a chart of annual reported bike thefts, which we've republished with this podcast on ActionLine.ca.Our investigations, interviews and analysis prove we earn the support of listeners and readers!Help us meet the Season 6 funding goal - we are now at $2650! Even past city councillors- including Jason Schreyer- have been victims. After the column Unchallenged crime wave in 2018 led to today's “epidemic” of bike thefts, a large number of readers came forward with their own experiences and strong opinions about how the crime wave has been mishandled.  These aren't “survival crimes.” These crimes are traumatizing thousands of people, including children and people who rely on their bikes to get to work. Yetas one woman found out after spotting her bike for sale online, the WPS do nothing. Another said she files reportsonline, and never ever hears back from the cops. Listen to more of the online feedback:“I'm out thousands of dollars for bikes...was robbed last summer of my $4000 dollar bike.”“It's awful! I'm a single mom of 4 and had 2 bikes stolen in a month! I keep buying the best locks I can find, but even 3/8" chain has been sawn through to take them.”“These are the victimless crimes excused by local woke advocates. Maybe Bernadette Smith can buy this familysome new bikes.”"The police had an opportunity to get ahead of it 10+ years ago. Leadership had no desire. 'They're just bikes'”.   “It's time the chop shops and homeless camps are dealt with by police. Too many riders can be seen daily witha second bike in tow.”The root cause of the problem? Weak leadership more concerned with virtue signaling that public safety:“Bowman told the public it was ok to get on the bus and not pay your fare. Look where that got us.”******The more you open the door into “our data”, the more it appears the Tories have a point about the Mobile Overdose Prevention Site (MOPS) program needing a careful evaluation before the exemption is allowed to continue.“A spring 2023 evaluation conducted by LAHRK Consultingis void of thorough post approval continued consultation, revealing that the qualitative data was primarily derived from users, staff, and politicians, without considering community perspectives that might present differing views on the site's impact. “Our areas didn't even hear about Foy's consultation process for MOPS.”  Read Marty's report in the Winnipeg Sun:https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/gold-hidden-facts-challenge-government-approved-drug-van-narrative

As an adult he chose to raise a family in Elmwood and build a career as a construction project manager. He says he's running to show “my deep appreciation for the working class families in this ward,” many of whom he's met through his volunteering with the East Side Eagles football club.  Included in his resume is a brief time working for the City Of Winnipeg with the traffic signals control centre project. “There is definitely some things to overcome when itcomes to our city services,” such as road construction contracts, says Gutierrez. “If we're not taking opportunities on the weekends we need to do something about that,” suggesting evening shifts instead of work sites becoming “ghost towns.”16.20- Getting the Louise Bridge reopened is a priorityfor Gutierrez. “That artery is crucial especially when it comes to emergency services,” he says, and he disagrees with Mayor Gillingham spending tax dollars on reopening Portage and Main to pedestrians this year instead of maintaining the bridge. 23.15 Part 3- While door-knocking so far, Gutierrez has heard from residents who worry about vacant and derelict commercial buildings and homes. His solution: “why don't' we just knock them down? Anempty lot looks better than a derelict building there.” He believes rehabilitating those buildings would be too costly and that developers would “love to have one of those lots and turn it into something beautiful.”29.00 - Regarding the veteran's housing provided on Talbot Avenue at Legion Gardens, Gutierrez tells how he lives close by but “was unaware of the crisis that they've faced” with repair and maintenance costs- including expensive city water and waste requirements.“When it comes to a veterans housing program running outof a lower income constituency, we need to work with those organizations. That's it, bottom line.”34.00 - Elmwood has problems caused by crime and homeless encampments that isn't well publicized - and Gutierrez says Coun. Jeff Browaty has the right idea about removing encampments from major routes. Having grown up in Manitoba Housing, he was shocked to learn that some of the criminals stay in encampments actually have subsidized housing units. He says that's denying honest families their chance at a step up. 41.05- Gutierrez does not support the exclusive contract the Gillingham administration awarded to Main Street Project for mobile services to deal with the homeless. "I think we need to diversify our approach in this... I don't know when the last time you had a chance to drive by the Main Street Project, but it's not good. If that's what we're funding, I have to avoid that area when I bring a client to the city." “I don't like the image we portray as a gritty city,” Gutierrez asserts. “We need to take pride. We need to clean up our back yard.”  He believes his workaholic nature will enhance hisability to work with the community, and if elected on October 25th, “I'm gonna roll up my sleeves for you at City Hall.” 50.05 Part 4- Marty Gold wraps up the episode with a pitch to support the Season Six funding drive, now at $2650. Episode 36 features a Lesson in Journalism, explaining how the CBC spread misinformation to undermine Coun. Cindy Gilroy for daring to table a motion suggesting kids need protection from homeless encampments. "Winnipeggers split over councillor's call toban encampments in outdoor places where children gather"First they manufactured the illusion of dissent by citing only one woman, who was not even asked if she had children. Then the CBC "journalist" falsely portrayed camping on city property as a legal right of the homeless that was being threatened by Gilroy's motion. As you'll hear, it's among the many things that are against the law in Winnipeg parks that the city tolerates and that the police don't make arrests for, making a mockery of the claim by Homelessness Minister Bernadette Smith:"We will continue to work with police and community partners to protect public safety around child friendly spaces."Nowhere in the story was a single resident of the areas like Point Douglas, Assiniboine Avenue or Waterfront Drive where children are at risk from illegal homeless encampments spoken to, nor were words like 'explosions', 'weapons', or 'chop shop' used. Along the way the CBC reporter shifted the issue from public safety to a lack of housing, allowing the usual suspects to say whatever they wanted without challenge. On TGCTS, you'll hear the questions that needed to be asked. In response to the CBC report, one of affected residents stated, "The Mayor seems more concerned about being sued than enforcing existing laws.”Part 1- Marty quickly reviews reaction to his Winnipeg Sun column, Wildfire evacuees straining critical Winnipeg emergency services https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/gold-wildfire-evacuees-straining-critical-winnipeg-emergency-serviceBurnout, the first responder told me, is becoming endemic, and exhausted crews are refusing to pick up more overtime shifts. When shifts aren't being covered, whether due to burnout, illness, or injury, vital life-saving equipment sits idle. “It's not an uncommon occurrence to be down 8–10 fire trucks overnight. Even ambulances are left in the bays because of no staff.”7.20 Part 2 - Hear our analysis. of the CBC story. It is a good example of the media making excuses for the criminals intimidating the community and not holding the responsible officials accountable, instead of listening to the communities asking for protection. -------Our Season Six Support Campaign is at $2330. After our report in the Winnipeg Sun revealed that certain voices in the poverty industry promote downplaying property and other offences committed by homeless lawbreakers, a listener raised an important question:"Is there any limit to what City Hall will tolerate as survivalcrimes? "In Part 1 of Episode 35 we explore his concern, about the lax attitude of local authorities to thieves stripping copper they steal and store in riverbank encampments:"Being a tradesperson, I was once warned that cyanide is released when the vinyl wire casing is burned... Never mind air quality warnings about northern forest fires, how about neighbourhoods being warned when thieving scum are burning off wire and creating smoke that is thousands of times more toxic than that of burning trees?"That's a "survival crime" that poisons riverbank communities- yet it's been tolerated. 12.35 Part 2- A letter sent this week to Mayor Gillingham and City Councillors provides evidence of the ground-floor effects of "survival crimes" being tolerated by Winnipeg civic leaders. "Not-for-profits are redefining criminal behavior in ways that downplay the break-ins, thefts, and violence ourcommunity experiences daily. This is not sustainable. We are creating a climate where the most vulnerable: seniors, children, people with disabilities, and those struggling with addiction are at constant risk."Sent by the housing chair of the Point Douglas Residents Committee, it poses troubling questions about how taxpayers in he neighborhood are treated like third-class citizens as drug-fueled mayhem stalks them daily."I am frustrated and disheartened by the disparity in attention and response Point Douglas receives in terms of basic city maintenance and bylaw enforcement."In one example, a problematic property on a short connecting sidestreet couldn't be found by bylaw officers walking right past it. It's the only lot on the street. Another example is how a graffiti complaint puts callers in the position of interpreting the markings, a job that should be done by paid staff."311 then asked if the graffiti is hateful or threatening. I am not an expert in graffiti or gang symbols. Is this the standard? That graffiti is only actionable if it is explicitly hateful? Graffiti of any kind should be considered a livability violation no matter the content. It lowers property values, invites crime, and reinforces the broken window theory that neglect fosters further decline. "The total ineptitude towards the embattled area puts both the head of the Bylaw Division, Winston Yee, and Police Chief Gene Bowers on the spot- and they were both questioned directly in the email. Will they respond? It all makes her wonder if there's a hidden agenda because "This level of discrepancy sends a clear message about which communities matter... the lack of basic care and enforcement in Point Douglas is so persistent that it feels intentional. "Marty Gold brings all the details, including actionable items presented by the PDRC (don't tell Dan Lett). Hear our additional insight into the encampment-driven crisis facing residents east of Main Street. Gillingham, city councillors like Vivian Santos, and health authorities are ignoring them - because acting on it hurts the "harm reduction" reputation of the government-funded experts enabling these "survival crimes". Jason Schreyer, unaddressed dangers to staff and public safety around the Health Sciences Centre, the Moving on Marion plan grinding to a standstill, and the chaos being caused to Transit users by the new routes and scheduling. That's the subject of our Sunday column in the Winnipeg Sun, Is Winnipeg's new Transit plan the next New Coke flop?16.40 Part 2- Instead of holding her accountable, Wab Kinew expects the disabled community she's insulted to hold her hand. "Our minister has apologized and is putting in the work with the community so it's with the greatest of humility that I want to ask folks in the deaf community to keep working with her.” Premier Wab Kinew to reporters."A written statement with no ASL translation, followed by a radio interview that is inaccessible to the community you are trying to reach and apologize to is not a mistake — it is an intentional harmful act.” Deaf social worker Cassandra Bell to the Winnipeg Free PressWhile Free Press pundit Dan Lett claimed it was only political opponents demanding Fontaine be turfed from the Accessibility portfolio, our last podcast proved him wrong. Then he had to read how wrong he was, in his own newspaper:“Speaking for myself, I think that minister Fontaine is not equipped to do her job as the minister of accessibility,”Bell said on Friday. “The majority of the people in the deaf community, that I've connected with, many are saying the same thing. What Nahanni Fontaine said is audist, ableist, discriminatory, and shows the root of her beliefs at her core."The newspaper also revealed a key detail they withheld earlier in the week - Fontaine's excuse for being in a foul mood at the graduation ceremony her own government arranged and produced: "The stage was overcrowded with decorations. She suggested it was a safety hazard."READ MARTY GOLD'S COLUMNS IN THE WINNIPEG SUN EVERY WEDNESDAY AND SUNDAY27.45- Marty Gold provides a history lesson on other occasions Nahanni Fontaine reached into her back pocket to play the "I don't feel safe card' when challenged on her job performance and crass behavior. Two election town halls in 2016 established the pattern of the Mean Girl of the NDP making up excuses instead of taking responsibility. The first event was populated by polite and docile Babas and Zaidas, and her claim she felt unsafe was mocked by the moderator. The second event was at a community centre after she admitted she never once spoke to NDP Premier Greg Selinger about CFS scooping aboriginal children in her North End constituency. Marty was at both town halls and recounts the absurd scenes Fontaine started. The pattern continues. Instead of heeding his own responsibility to the public, Kinew thinks this Fontaine fire will blow itself out. WFP: "Asked about Fontaine's explanation for her comments, Kinew said it's important for him to make any situation “that's not a win” a learning opportunity."Which has nothing to do with accountability.Nothing.Someone tell Wab Kinew that.*****Wab Kinew says he's in Nahanni Fontaine's corner. North Point Douglas residents, including Kaplan, had already complained about the damage caused by the police cars tearing up the lawn. After he pulled over to take a photo, the incensed officer ("he was pissed") punished Kaplan with a $672 ticket falsely alleging he had been driving while taking the picture- and that infraction came with an automatic "administrative" three day suspension. The case was so weak the Crown dropped the charge- and Kaplan “figured they gave me the disposition that the charges are stayed, and I said ok great the good guys won.”13.30 - Two months later, Kaplan discovered his drivers abstract listed the suspension, even though the underlying allegation was dropped. Potential employers see the word "suspended" and back away, even though there was no conviction.Hear him describe what happened in traffic court, and the injustice of Manitoba Public Insurance and the NDP government hiding behind bureaucratic rules to ignore the court result and impair his ability to work, all a result of retaliation by a rogue cop.29.40 Part 3- Independent Manitoba MLA Mark Wasyliw offered some blunt comments to Marty Gold about the unfairness of administrative suspensions. The veteran lawyer has extensive experience defending drivers in court and has a lot of insight into the politics behind these laws . Along with a lack of oversight on traffic stops creating distrust of the police, "this attitude is class based - Many working class jobs require a driver's license and people cannot work without one... The law hurts some Manitobans more than others and doesn't operate in a way that a reasonable Manitoba would expect."Most notably, Wasyliw says the process is "Procedurally unfair and most likely would not survive a constitutional challenge."******Check out our Sun column that revealed how late night shiftworkers, such as nurses at Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital, will face a risky walk and wait at a bus stop if they need to catch a bus home after work, all thanks to a new Transit plan that ignores genuine public safetyand convenience. In Episode 27 you'll hear the details of two late-week public affairs developments we've led the way on - the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region's failed attempt to strong-arm Rural Municipalities into supporting their power grab; andthe forbidden solution for bus driver safety.Part 1-  The NDP passed Bill 4, which gives dissident members of the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region (WMR) – a way to exit the organization. It's now being more formally referred to as the Capital Planning Region (CPR) to try to get the public to forget it's led by the same elected politicians that mocked and insulted them for daring to have questions about their vaunted Plan20-50.By coincidence, Marty Gold returned to Niverville to host a sports event on Saturday and heard some reflections from locals on how Plan20-50, fell apart before a public hearing in their town even started. The WMR by-law would have given Mayor Scott Gillingham a veto over the development, planning, zoning and agricultural rules of all the other 17 municipalities.Outraged citizens complained about an incomplete and jargon-filled document many felt was ramming through a UN / 15 Minute Cities agenda with fake public consultations and a sleepy press keeping the public clued out- until Marty explained how Gillingham could stop it. And now, the first brick is about to fall from the WMR empire. Listen to the proposal being put before the City of Selkirk council to leave the Plan20-50 crowd and the reasons why. OnlyTGCTS has the disappointing details from City Hall.Estimates of revenue loss from scofflaws is between $6M and $10M a year. But they didn't see it happen, because in a crass political gambit, Wab Kinew gave them an ultimatum for a one-time-only meeting. In this segment, you'll hear more details about their disgust with the behavior of the NDP during Question Period, and confusion about why Kinew's first priority in the meeting was to shield the Main Street Project from withering criticism after they were caught setting up a riverbank encampment in North Point Douglas contrary to Kinew's avowed policy.Hear more about MSP's ongoing loss of trust in the community, and how Kinew and his Homelessness Minister Bernadette Smith tried to gaslight the residents that they don't represent the community and there is a groundswell of support for the drug site, that the Winnipeg police support the site going on Disraeli across from Argyle High School, and the NDP's insistence that 'the experts' know best."Basically he insinuated we're an uncompassionate bunch.”The key issue is that the residents are demanding to speak directly to the unnamed "experts", to get their plan for how the site will manage the influx of erratic drug addicts after the doors of the site close at 7 pm daily, and how they will create sufficient detox programs and treatment beds to handle the existing backlog. As the residents see it, the NDP plan will perpetuate and increase drug addiction under the guise of solving the problem. They live with the needles, human waste, violence, vandalism and robberies that the addicts inflict on their neighborhood- not Kinew, Smith or NDP House Leader Nahanni Fontaine. When Kinew bragged he consulted with BC's Premier Dave Eby about that province's failed drug site operations, he lost all credibility with the well-researched and educated parents, homeowners and stakeholders who populate the areas East of Main Street. Now, they're finding that no one will buy their houses, because of the uncertainty Kinew's plan is causing potential buyers. We have added comments from an area mother and housewife who wants to speak to Kinew's experts herself, because in her view, adding a Safe Consumption Site is "a band-aid fix" that won't alleviate the "open drug deals and strung out people" her kids are seeing and avoiding every day.46.10 - A wrap-up of the episode, and a look towards what's coming up in June. Please take a moment to support our efforts with a donation towards the Season Six costs!

The recent history of the Pride celebrations in Winnipeg have been marred by discrimination behind the scenes against Jewish, Israeli and pro-Zionist volunteers, sponsors and performers . Last year the hate exploded into public view when the 'Chickens for KFC ' crowd - LGBTQ+ far left radicals who would be tortured and murdered if they dared set foot in Gaza or the West Bank - asserted their strident antisemitic political ideology at the public events. Only the Winnipeg Sun reported on the intimidation and harassment of Jewish Winnipeggers- Pride weekend anti-Semitism a shocking displayhttps://winnipegsun.com/opinion/gold-pride-weekend-anti-semitism-a-shocking-displayThe Saturday night Gala at the Metropolitan Theatre was "like Hitler rally" according to numerous witnesses, and a marginal "BIPOC" group stopped the Sunday parade with vile antisemitic chants and banners. Rather than call the cops, sympathetic organizers conceded Main Stage time to the Jew-haters to repeat their tropes and support for Hamas terrorists. It was shameful. It wasn't always like this. In fact, members of the Jewish community were among the first in the 1970's to demonstrate for gay rights and then in the 1980's to contribute financially to the establishment of the Rainbow Resource Centre and to sponsoring Pride Winnipeg Festival Inc. events.Episode 25 presents a brief interview with James Kane, who attended the first parade. An important report appeared in the Winnipeg Sun on Saturday that revealed the dire threat to the future of the local construction industry, because financial institutions are squeexing them out of the game. 9.28 Part 2- In Episode 24 you'll hear added analysis about why new restrictive credit rules are a genuine threat to trades and related jobs, the Manitoba economy, and especially to bringing new houses to the market. As Sun publisher Kevin Klein wrote, "While the federal government has focused on ambitious housing targets, experts say these numbers are meaningless without builders who can access financing." While you might reflexively blame the banks, post-merger Credit Unions are the worst offenders for abandoning all but the largest companies seeking financing and cash flow for development projects. It seems they don't want to invest in the community any more. The result might make Winnipeg's proposed new zoning rules for more in-fill housing obsolete before the ink is dry on the new bylaw. Episode 23 revisits a serious issue plaguing Winnipeg for years- discarded used needles strewn all over parks and public walkways. In Part 1 we explain how the surge started around 2018, after "harm reduction" advocates and unaccountable WRHA officials were allowed to discontinue needle return targets from their massive free needle giveaways. Through their agents in the health care field the WRHA have handed out millions of needles since, yet refuse to provide data on how many they claim they've been picking up.Our analysis of this week's report about a city pick-up program shows 50% of the dirty rigs were within walking distance of the Legislature. This seems to prove the supposed need for a drug user site is outside Premier Wab Kinew's office, and not in Point Douglas. You'll hear an explanation why Mayor Gillingham's statement to the media on the issue lacks credibility: “If there is any agency that is distributing needles… I think it's up to those agencies also to be part of the solution in getting those needles back, rather than having needles just go out, be used and end up in a park where children play… This is about the health and safety of the public.”City Councillors- including Gillingham - knew years ago what steps could be taken to mitigate the problem, including requiring needle return rates and colour coded needles to trace which agency was giving them out. Instead of taking responsibility when we reported on these facts in 2019, Coun. Cindy Gilroy now has to plead for priority clean-ups of inner-city parks, taking tax dollars away from other programs. This crisis is a Brian Bowman legacy- he pressured police to coddle criminals and addicts who learned there was no consequence to their endangering the health of children and the safety of the community. As Bowman's right hand man on Council then, Gillingham cannot distance himself now from his refusal to take action and allowing the risk of "harm reduction" programs to be offloaded unto children and other park users. 18.50 Part 2 - The latest columns in the Winnipeg Sun by Marty Gold on the Rezoning Open Houses and Parking Authority towing fiasco get a quick recap, plus a look at what's coming up in the Sun and on the podcasts- including West End businesses fighting crime, questions about this year's Pride parade on June 1, and an interview with North Kildonan councillor Jeff Browaty.*******The funding campaign for Season Six has broken the $1000 barrier- and if you like the breaking news and analysis we produce, it's made possible by YOUR contributions! Our $10,000 budget is set to cover online hosting and production costs, transportation and research expenses, and make sure the office lights stay on so we can continue to upholdthe tradition of investigative journalism in Winnipeg! To Donate via PayPal- paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMediaTo Donate via E-Transfer, or to support by cheque, cash, advertising or other means - martygoldlive@gmail.com

Erika believes a one week suspension of the instigator "is a way the kids can see they can instigate, they can harass, they can bully other people, and the consequence is to miss one game." She says she and another parent have sent emails regarding their concerns and the safety of all the kids- not just Jewish children - in the WSEU soccer program, but there's been no further comunication from the Club."It's really pissing me off to see that the club and the sport are letting kids do these kind of things."24.00 Part 3- Marty Gold wraps up the episode, which is the kind of grassroots investigative reporting that gets noticed. Episode 19 touches on the bizarre reasons why the City of Winnipeg isn't advertising a Public Works Committee event, more federal election campaign news and views, and more evidence Elections Canada is trying to deceive the public that their "preventative measures" stop non-citizens from getting a ballot and voting.Part 1- Late on Wednesday, a City of Winnipeg representative emailed Marty Gold about his Sun column, Public Works presentation on Bike Lanes, Lower Speed Limits Kept Hush-Hush.The column revealed that while the Saturday morning event is framed as a “robust presentation” about the $96 Million councillors intend to spend on “Active Transportation and Road Safety in the next 6 years,” the people running the show seem to only want to hear from supporters and beneficiaries of their plans. Case in point- Committee Chair Janice Lukes specifically invited the bike lobby, but not WiseUP Winnipeg that represents 14,000 drivers. As Todd Dube suggested, that's one way politicians can use tax dollars to set up a robust echo chamber."It is not a Public Service-led event, and we do not promote information sessions organized and led by an elected official," explained the email. If you think that doesn't make sense, wait till you hear the rest of the explanation of how "there is no component of public engagement or feedback-seeking at this event" and how Marty responded. 20.15 Part 2 starts off with some reaction to Sun columns. Hear comments on the Public Works info session, the injection site Town Hall held by Point Douglas residents, and the passing of Con Lynch, a venerated North Kildonan teacher with a deep connection to Marty's family.27.15 - Listeners and readers contribute tips and observations about the state of the federal campaign. Prospects for the NDP are looking bleak while the Conservatives are finally allowing local candidates to speak for themselves. Meanwhile, the Jew-haters have made their presence felt in Tuxedo, targeting Jewish Tory incumbent Marty Morantz. 34.10 Part 3 - A recent correspondence from Elections Canada revealed how the agency tries to fool Canadians into believing their lax ID practices don't open the door to non-citizens being handed a ballot. Listen to the Elections Canada memo sent to encourage tax preparers to add clients to the voting list. You'll wonder if the agency is only interested in padding voter rolls and not in protecting our democracy. We will continue to stand up for you.****The TGCTS podcasts and reports on ActionLine.ca and our columns and community reports with the Winnipeg Sun, are made possible because of the support of listeners and readers like you. A resident-led Town Hall questioned police on their safety plan if a drug consumption site is placed across from a Point Douglas high school. Episode 18 has exclusive details on what went on Tuesday night behind the scenes and at the microphone that you don't want to miss.Part 1- Marty Gold recaps his most recent reports in the Winnipeg Sun:Wednesday: Nurses in constant danger in hospitals province-wide-- Tick tock, the clock's run out on AsagwaraThursday: Residents believe crime will escalate if drug site opened-- Point Douglas pushback: Community rejects proposed drug site location10.15 Part 2- Over 40 political and police officials and staff paid by the taxpayer turned up at the Ashdown Market on Tuesday, as the residents east of Main St. called Bernadette Smith's bluff. It was an extraordinary development that has thrown the NDP government completely off-balance.In January, the Addictions Minister squelched questions from area stakeholders about how neighborhood safety would be protected as she relentlessly praised the consumption site proposed for their neighborhood. You'll hear how at the end of that meeting, Marty raised his voice to ask when or even if another public consultation would be held- and was ignored by Smith and staff of the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre who will operate the safe injection site. That was a big tell. * Support our Season Six reporting with a PayPal or E-Transfer donation - Donate Page *After no further meetings were conducted by the NDP, the people who have to live with the social disorder and violence caused by drug users scheduled their own session, and limited Smith and other speakers to 5 minutes. With Smith unable to censor participants, she waited until the morning of the event to agree to appear. No wonder. She faced a barrage of criticism, much of it focused on the NDP's inability to get existing drug users into treatment promptly. And when she deferred to police on safety issues, new chief Gene Bowers failed to deliver a single idea of exactly how he will stop an influx of drug addicts - estimated by site supporters as coming to 200 Disraeli from a 30 block radius - from committing even more crime or endangering students and staff at Argyle High School. A mother told Smith, “I have a daughter who attends there. It's not good for the kids already day to day. It's survival… they already have shots against them, and you want to inflict the trauma of a safe consumption site into a community that's already traumatized. What are you doing ??”21.30- A review of some media reports about the town hall helps illustrate the misinformation spread by MSM reporters as well as revealing details they didn't grasp the significance of . Hear what MSM did not report:- a city councillor walked out of the meeting- a split in the indigenous community about enabling drug use is fueling an 'old school' vs 'new school' dispute - reporting "city police wanted to send a message to residents they're working on a plan" exposed how they made no progress in 2 months - Smith's language pivoting to a "made-in-Manitoba" operating plan is deceptive34.00- Which extreme-left activist organization tried to promote 'safe supply' so the government would give illegal drugs to addicts to use at the site? We tell you. Health Minister Ozuma Asagwara and the board of the AHWC can no longer avoid facing the property owners, residents and parents to define their liability if and when a safe consumption site opens. 42.50 Part 3 - In the last episode, TGCTS discovered how lax federal voting rules were when it came to requiring actual proof a person was a citizen of Canada. Listen to the response provided by Elections Canada and how laughable their so-called "preventativemesures" are. The bottom line- it's easy for a foreign national to get a ballot in this federal election.******Easter Sunday in the Winnipeg Sun- a special remembrance of a North Kildonan teacher who was an immigrant success story

Episode 17 has the variety of information, scoops and investigations listeners rely on to stay in the know!Part 1- Last month, we brought the concerns of a Niverville family to Winnipeg Sun readers, and poll results that showed substantial support for patient protections proposed in Debbie's Law. On Friday, the NDP announced that cardiac surgeons would provide timelines to those on the waiting list. From a listener: "The issues management team for Kinew surely reads your articles. They will now provide in writing when heartsurgeries will be performed and will record any deaths of those waiting. Kinew perhaps is the premier who has responded to your reporting more than any other previous premier."But, as you'll hear, there's no penalties imposed on RHA's for missing the target times, and no requirement that patients are offered alternative venues to receive life-saving procesdures. Also, we scooped the media on Wednesay by reveakling Parents blindsided as Winnipeg axes school bus charters. Remarkably, Winnipeg officials have made no plans to protect the safety of children now expected to use public transit and handle being around violent and erratic users.22.00 Part 2 - An in depth look at boundary changes in west Winnipeg (Charleswood—St. James—Assiniboia—Headingley). It's making the federal race between incumbent Marty Morantz and former MP Doug Eyolfson completely unpredictable. The note we received also mentions Winnipeg South: "Lots of new residents. Big question is how many are able to vote?"31.55 Part 3- That question led to us becoming Mr. Nosey and calling an Elections Canada official.Whether it's being listed on the voters roll via a tax return, registering online, voting by mail, or voting at mobile polls, there seems to be an essantial safeguard missing. Elections Canada is conducting enumerations in newer suburban apartment buildings and claims, "During and after elections, we carefully monitor suspicious patterns and anomalies". The thing they should investigate might be their own policies, which don't seem to ever include asking for proof of citizenship. ******This weekend in the Sun, another exclusive report- Sutherland Hotel site housing concept will need all hands on deck“I'm trying to settle with the question, why is the North End burning? I think the problem is fairly serious in Winnipeg. You can't even insure properties in that area easily. Do we just have endless properties that are burnt and are empty and every city has that one part where people wonder, is this going to spread to my part?"Coming up- tolerance of antisemitism continues to be a feature, not a bug, of local politics and the federal election; and a special column is set for Easter Sunday in the Winnipeg Sun.*******The Season Six Support Campaign has kicked off with $860 towards our goal of $10,000. An overview of the first week of the federal election, and news about some Manitoba MPs facing a fight to retain their seats, is the focus of Episode 15.Part 1- Our Sunday column in the Winnipeg Sun struck a nerve after providing on-the-scene accounts of a March of crime.Crime wave in Winnipeg: Businesses and residents left to fend for themselvesBrazen thefts and organized shoplifting crews are beseiging convenience and drug stores. When the cops don't even show up to a break-in at a funeral home with corpses inside, you know the living like security guards and 7-Eleven clerks aren't a priority either- uunless their car windows have dark tint. From a reader- "I"m now wondering why we even fund the WPS any more. They do not serve us. They target us with ticketing. Thats it."12.40 Part 2- If you've been wondering how Mark Carney has been able to say he's making decisions about foreign policy without the confidence of the House of Commons, it's because on March 24th the Liberals secretly changed the Caretaker Convention Guidelines. Hear how this created " a legal and ethical gray zone." https://canada.ca/en/privy-council/services/publications/guidelines-conduct-ministers-state-exempt-staff-public-servants-election.htmlHow convenient. 19.00- You'll hear the outrageous descriptions of Pierre Poilievre by an Angus Reid Institute push poll to inflate support for Mark Carney. It's beyond outrageous.22.30- It's no wonder MSM election coverage avoids an analysis of the immigration crisis. We have a commentary from someone who knows who declared,"I've probably met a few dozen real, true refugees.... The rest are bogus. People gaming the system. People coached by consultants, lawyers, ghost agents. People using the refugee claim process to buy time. People using it to get work permits. That's how the system is built now."27.00- In his book Value(s), Mark Carney showered praise on the eco-alarmist Greta Thunberg. This of course doesn't square with his sudden support for the Canadian energy sector. The Liberal hypocrisy isn't limited to their leader. We play audio from January of one of his Ontario candidates insisting just two months ago that Canada needs even MORE carbon taxes.32.30 Part 3- Listeners and sources have provided assessments from the campaigns on the ground. After Jagmeet Singh ran the NDP out of money while propping up Justin Trudeau and accruing his pension, his MPs are facing annihilation at the ballot box. Among those in a dogfight- Leah Gazan, Niki Ashton, and the rookie MP Leila Dance. Meanwhile, in west Winnipeg, CPC incumbent Marty Morantz is facing voters with investments in the import-export markets who think his leader needs to make the fight against US tariffs the daily plank of the national campaign - "It's an epic battle."While claims fly that the Tory campaign is disorganized, crowds in the thousands continue to show up at rallies showing their support for a change in Ottawa. The 'mushy middle' - voters who swing from left to right - are targeted by media campaigns that highlight a narrative that the election is not about domestic concerns like affordability, public safety and foreign influence in our media and elections. That leaves longstanding questions unansswered- like what happened with those Chinese spies at the downtown Winnipeg lab? Maybe Mark Carney can tell us.******** The Funding campaign for Season Six is now underway - the target is $10,000 with the first contributions already in. * We provide unmatched content in the public affairs realm in Winnipeg! * You can support this work by using the PayPal link and other information on our Donate Page- or you can email us via martygoldlive@gmail.com

In Part 1 of Episode 14, we lay out the opening salvos of the Federal Election. The Liberal launch drew about 300 in St. John's with Mark Carney locking out protesting fishermen; meanwhile the CPC kick-off in North York drew 2500 and turned away 1000 supporters.Marty Gold describes some of the obstacles the international banker-turned- Canadian nationalist faces in establishing credibility with voters, the challenges from the media Carney bristles at, and the policy ideas already lifted from the Pierre Poilievre platform. Also, you'll hear the statement of Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire in retiring from a 25 year career as an elected Tory.17.15 Part 2- Last week we filed four very unique reports with the Winnipeg Sun. By raising important issues the broadcast media ignores, we prove our role is crucial to the local marketplace of ideas. The reports included: - If Uzoma Asagwara can't take the heat the disclosure of vital wait time information could generate, Premier Wab Kinew needs to find someone in his caucus who can. For patients, it could be a matter of life and death.Debbie's Law poll result corners Asagwara on patient safety https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/gold-debbies-law-poll-result-corners-asagwara-on-patient-safety- No other reporter attended the city Open House on rezoning to allow for federally-subsidized multi-unit housing builds. Listen for more about what was said at the session, the questions that planners couldn't answer, and what some residents saw and didn't like. "We were not impressed with any of these density designs. I am still shocked at the examples they showed, of how crowded these lots will be, also because of the height."City staff on the defensive at Open House on new four-plex zoninghttps://winnipegsun.com/opinion/0322-gold-city-staff-on-the-defensive-at-open-house-on-new-four-plex-zoning32.20 - The whispers aren't so quiet anymore that NDP loyalists look with great longing towards Wab Kinew as a potential savior of their political fortunes. But within the realm of the federal NDP, he has a problem. On the anniversary of the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas he stated, “Israel has a right to exist and a right to defend itself.” But Kinew plays the ‘both sides' game, where any mention of antisemitism or Jew-hatred (both real things) is paired with grave warnings about “Islamophobia” or “Anti-Palestinian racism”.  Kinew courts the “anti-Zionist not anti-Semite” mob https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/gold-kinew-courts-the-anti-zionist-not-anti-semite-mob- The Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada, in partnership with Congregation Shaarey Zedek, organizes the annual observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day –Yom HaShoah.“Last year, the Lieutenant Governor participated as the lead reader, and this year,” wrote the Heritage Centre, “we are honoured to welcome the Premier of Manitoba to fulfill this role.”This was not a well-thought out idea. The blowback directed to the Shaarey Zedek synagogue, which is hosting the event, was immediate. "We would not want to do something to offend or endanger our congregants or community. We are trying to navigate the delicate political position this has put us in.”Invitation to Kinew for Holocaust event fractures Winnipeg's Jewish communityhttps://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/gold-invitation-to-kinew-for-holocaust-event-fractures-winnipegs-jewish-community41.30 - Federal subsidies subvert the coverage of mainstream outlets. "The World Bank and its president have been doing an important, constructive job the past five years," announced The Southern Illinoisan in 1973. "IMF assistance [has] put Jamaica well on the road to recovery," reported The Winnipeg Sun in 1982. The Trans-Pacific Partnership “could be a legacy-making achievement” for Barack Obama, The New York Times suggested in 2015. These are the dominant narratives surrounding so-called "development" initiatives, whether structural adjustment loans or "free trade" deals. Agreements like these, we're often told, have been and continue to be essential to the economic maturation and societal improvement of poor countries. Countries that shift from nationalized to privatized industry and land, so called liberalize trade policies, and institute a host of other free-market reforms are destined for greater efficiency, reduced poverty, and that much-coveted "Seat At The Table" in the global economy. But, all too often, this isn't the effect of these initiatives. What we don't tend to hear about is how economic development "agreements" engineered by wealthy countries like the US — e.g., IMF loans, NAFTA, or the TPP — don't promote, but rather reverse, the development of exploited countries. Media minimize not only these initiatives' destructive effects on economies, labor, and social programs in service of U.S. corporations, but also their relationship to the punitive U.S. immigration system, and their extensive role in mass global displacement. This episode – the last installment of our three-part series on media narratives about immigration (listen to Part I here and Part II here!) – explores the displacing effects of "development" and "free trade" deals, as well as their connection to an increasingly militarized immigration "deterrence" machine, asking why capital is allowed to move freely, but people aren't. Our guest is Dylan Sullivan.
