Alden is a University of South Florida Graduate and currently works as the Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Start LSAT. This week, I sit down with Alden, a 21-year-old whose story is just beginning, yet it's already packed with enough twists, lessons, and ambition to inspire anyone. Alden and I started at his internship before college, yes, before college. He started down a finance route but quickly realized that kind of work couldn't incorporate the intellectual stimulation and creative thinking Alden was always yearning for.Arriving in South Florida, Alden dove into his first legal internship at Spinks Law Firm, where he got his hands dirty in probate, wills, and trusts. The experience ignited something in him. Suddenly, the clarity hit—this is what he wanted to do. The law was his calling. Then came a major turning point: leading the University of South Florida's Ice Hockey team as president. Here, Alden's entrepreneurial spirit was put to the test. Handling a $100K budget and overseeing two teams taught him the ins and outs of leadership, all while boosting team morale. The game-changer? A bold move to redesign the team's jerseys, resulting in $20K in sales and features on TSN and FanDuel's social media. Alden wasn't just leading a team—he was building a brand.Fast forward to today: Alden is cutting his teeth as a paralegal at the world-renowned Morgan and Morgan, where he's already flexing his legal muscles in litigation and motion practice. The freedom to craft his own arguments has him thinking about the next frontier—mergers and acquisitions. But as always, Alden keeps his options open. And then, there's the LSAT. After three months of dedicated study, Alden didn't just pass—he aced it with a perfect 180. This wasn't just a personal victory; it was the spark for a business idea. Enter Start LSAT, Alden's brainchild offering affordable, high-quality LSAT prep. Not only did he build the curriculum from scratch, but he also taught himself to code, designed his own website, and crafted interactive videos. At just 21, Alden's achievements are staggering, but what stands out most is his relentless curiosity and drive. His story is proof that brilliance knows no age, and he's only just getting started. I have no doubt Alden will be a force in the legal world for years to come.Alden's LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/aldensprattStart LSAT: https://www.startlsat.com/Be sure to check out the Official Sponsors for the Lawyers in the Making Podcast:Rhetoric - takes user briefs and motions and compares them against the text of opinions written by judges to identify ways to tailor their arguments to better persuade the judges handling their cases. R.A. Spratt is a best-selling author, who has captured the hearts and imaginations of children around the world.
Today I'm talking to Cindy Spratt, who's a holistic & functional nutritionist that specialises in eating disorder recovery. Cindy speaks about an all-encompassing approach that teaches fundamentals of nutrition, listening to the body, learning how to respect and love the body, and rebuilding a loving and joyful relationship with food, so that people can thrive long term and feel good about food and in their body. Cindy has been on her own healing journey. As a young girl she loved being in the kitchen and creating and connecting through food. Her first job was at a local tea house, aged 11, and with a local catering company soon after. Throughout her teenage years, however, Cindy's relationship with food morphed into something different. She spent almost a decade as a competitive gymnast, where weight and body image were of heightened focus. When the time came to step away from gymnastics, the drastic drop in exercise, along with puberty and the complex mental/emotional challenges of adolescence, her once loving, and rather normal relationship with food, was replaced by something deeply dysfunctional. From Cindy's teens well into her twenties, her food journey became her biggest struggle. She found herself in the throes of bingeing and purging, starving, dieting, over-exercising, and popping pills. She describes the shame and guilt that engulfed her during those years as devastating, and the loneliness, unbearable. In her mid-twenties, Cindy came to the realisation that her health was suffering, that there was more to her than an eating disorder, and more to this life than struggle. Determined to find a way to bring back her love of food and turn her life's journey into something positive, she aligned herself to a new path and began to look to the health world for guidance. And then…Cindy's life was turned upside down At 32, as a young wife and mother, and well on her way to being fully recovered from the eating disorder, doctors found a cancerous tumor in her colon. She endured a life altering colon resection and was advised to endure several rounds of chemo. Opting out of chemo, Cindy set out to up her health game. She went back to school, turned to exercise for therapy, and opened up her spirit to life's teachings. What she found was a calling: to help others find their own positive food journey and to be the help she didn't have when she was younger. Since then, Cindy has spent years in school becoming a nutritional enthusiast, a kitchen muse, and a food and body advocate, receiving certifications in Holistic Nutrition, Functional Nutrition, Culinary Nutrition, Eating Psychology, and Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching. Her kitchen is now a joyful and creative space, once again. She has learned how to listen to her body, reuniting it with athleticism, dance, and the wondrous outdoors. Cindy's life story with food has taught her endless lessons: to embrace every moment with gratitude and compassion, to listen to life's teachings, and that believing in oneself is half the battle. She hopes to pass this along to others. In the episode today, Cindy explores her healing journey with food, and the ups and downs along this tumultuous path. She talks about getting started in recovery with nutrition and also shares some of her best tips for addressing psychology and a bigger picture of recovery. It's an inspiring episode and I hope that you enjoy it. The third round of the Life Time Grand Prix is an Infamous gravel race in Southwest Utah with over 10,000 feet of climbing over a punchy 69-mile course. This year's race was defined by a distinct lack of drama, but it was still historic. Keegan Swenson became the first (and only) rider in the event's history to finish in under four hours, while Sofía Gómez Villafañe smashed the women's record by more than six minutes. Payson and Velo reporter Betsy Welch talk about these wins as well as some of the other noteworthy finishes. From Matt Beers to Paige Onweller, there were many riders who staked their claim on the leaderboard last week with breakout performances. One of the riders with an attention-grabbing race was Nathan Spratt, an Indiana native who started racing gravel in 2022 after years of racing on the road. He now lives in Utah and fits training alongside his engineering career. He joins Payson to talk about his sixth-place finish at Crusher, how he came to the Grand Prix, and what it's like to live, train, and work with his twin brother, Marc. Payson also breaks down the power files of some of the athletes, including Matt Beers and Haley Smith.Instagram: @theadventurestache
