Keira recounts the manipulation and threats she faced, which led to a prolonged period of suffering and injustice. Despite reporting the crimes, the legal system failed to deliver adequate justice, leaving her abuser with a mere suspended sentence. We explore the broader context of grooming scandals in the UK, emphasizing that such crimes are not limited to any single community. The episode highlights the systemic failures that allow predators to escape with minimal consequences and the impact this has on victims like Keira. Our host, driven by a personal connection to the community and a desire to seek justice, takes us through the investigative process, including the use of private detectives to gather evidence against Shankar. The episode culminates in a dramatic confrontation, aiming to hold the perpetrator accountable and provide Keira with a sense of justice. This episode serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community vigilance and support for victims of abuse, urging listeners to take action and support efforts to bring justice to those who have been wronged.

If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be? “Perinatal mental health and postpartum psychosis”______________Ariane Beeston is a child protection worker and newly registered psychologist when she gives birth to her first child – and very quickly begins to experience scary breaks with reality. Out of fear and shame, she keeps her delusions and hallucinations secret, but as the months pass Ariane gets worse. Much worse. Finally admitted to a mother and baby psychiatric unit, the psychologist is forced to learn how to be the patient. With medication, the support of her husband, psychotherapy and ultimately, time, Ariane rebuilds herself. And she also begins a new chapter working in perinatal mental health, developing resources to support other new mothers.Ariane has been a staff writer at Fairfax Media's Essential Baby and Essential Kids and has also published articles in The Sydney Morning Herald, Daily Life, Babyology and Mamamia. She recently released her first book, Because I'm Not Myself, You See: A memoir of motherhood, madness and coming back from the brink is an incredible story of the impossible pressures placed on new mothers and how quickly things can go wrong during 'the happiest time of your life'. Ariane currently works for Australia's peak body in perinatal mental health, The Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE), as their communications and content manager. In this episode, Ryan speaks to James Beeston, a former full-time footballer who successfully navigated a complex journey. In their riveting discussion, James recounts his journey from being scouted at the tender age of six, through his time at a youth academy, to the founding of Bisterra, his thriving supplemental soccer training company. In 2010 James was rejected from Port Vale Football Club where he was an LFE apprentice, a team he had ardently supported for almost his entire life. Rather than succumbing to this heartbreak, he saw it as a redirection to something greater. Realizing his untapped potential lying in training, he teamed up with his then roommate Mike, started as a club coach but felt as though team coaching wasn't maximizing a player's full potential, hence opting for individual training. Meaningful baseball in September… what a feeling! There's nothing better than when baseball games at this time of the year actually matter for the Blue Jays and we bring on Paul Beeston to talk about it!   There's no point in trying to figure out what exactly Paul does with the Jays because not even Paul knows… but what he does know, probably more than anyone else is Jays baseball. We break down the ups and the downs from the season this year and look ahead at their chances to make the playoffs and IF they do, we set our expectations for how far they can go.

This field-defining collection establishes unfinished film projects--abandoned, interrupted, lost, or open-ended--as rich and under-appreciated resources for feminist film and media studies. In deeply researched and creatively conceived chapters, scholars join with film practitioners in approaching the unfinished film as an ideal site for revealing the lived experiences, practical conditions, and institutional realities of women's film production across historical periods and national borders.  Alix Beeston and Stefan Solomon's Incomplete: The Feminist Possibilities of the Unfinished Film (U California Press, 2023) recovers projects and practices marginalized in film industries and scholarship alike, while also showing how feminist filmmakers have cultivated incompletion as an aesthetic strategy. Objects of loss and of possibility, incomplete films raise profound historiographical and ethical questions about the always unfinished project of film history, film spectatorship, and film studies. Host Annie Berke sits down with editors Alix Beeston and Stefan Solomon to ask how this project originated, what makes a film "incomplete," and what unfinished work has to tell us about the nature of cinema and art. “It's giving permission sometimes, to not be perfect. There's this sense that there's a magic answer. Everybody has all these opinions about what philanthropy should and shouldn't be, so it can be quite a baffling world if you're new to it.” If you enjoy the podcast, please do follow us and leave a rating / review.  In this episode of the Charity Impact podcast, I talk to philanthropy advisor Emma Beeston. We talk about the role of the philanthropy advisor, the types of philanthropists Emma works with and the process of helping them to give strategically. We cover some of the thinking around how to choose which charities to support and what makes an effective charity; the pressure of trying to make the perfect decision and the inevitable need to take risks. We also talk about the debate between trust-based philanthropy and more data driven approaches, trends in philanthropy and grantmaking including the changing attitudes of the younger generation and increased collaboration between grantmakers. Emma also introduces us to her new book, co-authored with Beth Breeze, ‘Advising Philanthropists: principles and practice', which they believe is the first ever book specifically on philanthropy advice (more info on this at the bottom of the page). Summary Henry Schlesinger (Rare Bird Books) joins Andrew (Twitter; LinkedIn) to discuss two of the most mysterious and alluring forces in human history: sex and spying. He is a journalist and author proudly based out of NYC.  What You'll Learn Intelligence The impact of sexpionage on history  Debunking common “honey trap” myths  Examples of weaponized seduction and leveraged love  Cyber honey traps and digital sexpionage Reflections Psychological implications of love and lies The relationship between pop culture myths and historical truth  And much, much more … Episode Notes Sex. Espionage. Sometimes they both overlap by accident...but sometimes it's entirely intentional. From Samson and Delilah in the Bible to the Profumo Affair that rocked British society in the 1960's, they are a heady and dramatic combination. But how is sex used in modern espionage? How do the professionals combine them, if indeed they do? What myths surround the use of both? How have men and women used sex and seduction to spy?  To answer these questions and more, Andrew sat down with Henry Schlesinger to discuss his newest book, Honey Trapped: Sex, Betrayal, and Weaponized Love, which explores the fascinating relationship between sex and spying.  And…  You know about Benjamin Franklin in Paris as a “bon vivant, wily diplomat and aging lion,” but read Henry's article about him as the “Founding Forger” engaged in disinformation and fake news during the Revolution!
