We are so friggin' psyched!! It's not every day that we (A) Celebrate our 300th episode and (B) Have the very first National Ambassador of Young People's Literature JON SCIESZKA as our special guest! We asked Jon what classic picture book he wanted to celebrate, and do you know what he selected? Not one but THREE Grimm Brothers fairy tales. Not the well known ones either. Three short ones. Weird ones. Peculiar ones. Today, we read through the following: - The Straw, the Coal and the Bean - The Three Sluggards - The Mouse, the Bird, and the Sausage "Some of the Grimm Brothers stories you find are a little gross. These are a little... odd!" That's Jon selling today's stories. Today we talk hyacinth beans, subversive stories about the monarchy, and why Kate keeps using the phrase "Sausage McLovin" repeatedly. This may be one of our goofier episodes but it is WELL worth a listen!
It's no secret that nearly everything is getting outsourced today. From house cleaning to car maintenance to food delivery, the convenience and accessibility of hiring someone else to do a task you A) Don't know how to do or B) Have no interest in doing has become big business. This is particularly true in the world of home improvement and renovations; while a good percentage of the population still goes the DIY route, more and more are seeing the benefits of hiring a professional to do it right the first time, saving both time, money, headaches - and probably marriages. And since so many people are spending more time IN their homes thanks to remote work, they're much more eager to invest in outdoor living spaces, remodeling bathrooms, and upgrading their kitchens. But anyone who has hired (or attempted to hire) a handyman knows finding trustworthy and reliable contractors can be challenging. Vice versa, if you're a handyman or contractor, you know the difficulty of managing customer expectations, dealing with paperwork and contracts, and handling admin while doing the job itself. Far too often, neither side comes out ahead. This is an opportunity that Chris Lalomia has capitalized on. (Very successfully, we might add.) Leaving the “corporate zoo,” he ventured out on his own and started The Trusted Toolbox, a home repair and remodeling service. He employs a team of specialized technicians whose only responsibility is to do what they do best. By managing the communication, the paperwork, and the “busy work,” he has more control over the final outcome, making both customer and contractor happy. If you're in any type of service-based business, tune into this episode for some great advice on customer service, business planning, mistakes to avoid, and more. What You'll Learn: Lessons he learned from building a business plan Marketing mistakes he made first starting out What the number one priority should be today for advertising Why it's essential to show your client your work Why he puts a premium on customer service His exit strategy …and much more! I was asked the question this week: “If you're not all in, does it mean you shouldn't be doing it?” This is what I say… A lot of times “should” shows up as a future excuse. It also says, “I'm interested, but not committed.” OR… “I'm doing this for other reasons besides my true heart's desire.” It's like saying that ALL IN happens by chance, divine intervention, or destiny. But… YOU get to decide what you're doing and why you're doing it. So, my answer includes a few questions... A: Why are you “shoulding” on yourself? B: Have you ever considered that maybe “ALL IN” didn't necessarily come as a result of the circumstances, but instead, “ALL IN” CREATES the circumstances. C: What does ALL IN look like, really…and what are you ALL IN to? D. Why are you doing IT if you're NOT ALL IN? Can you relate to this? If so, then... Ask yourself: Is it about circumstance or commitment? If you're waiting for circumstance to give you power for your commitment, you're not going to find it. Why? Because, your commitment creates your circumstances. Got it? In order to be ALL IN to anything, you must... -Know your WHY. Why are you doing what you're doing? Your WHY must be bigger than your WHY NOT. FEAR can also play a role in keeping you from doing what you say you desire to do. - Stay connected to your BIG WHY. -Identify your FEAR, which can become your big WHY NOT. - Be honest with yourself and others. Is your commitment based on a decision, or is your decision based on a commitment? Decisions based on the commitments to your BIG WHY are the ones that are ALL IN. What is your heart crying out? What is it saying to you? What is it (are you) yearning for? - Stop saying you're ALL IN to what you're NOT ALL IN to… - Stop saying you “should be”… - Simply focus in on what your heart is leading and guiding you to. AND… - Follow it. Follow it ALL IN to wherever it's leading you. This is a DISCOVERY. It's an ADVENTURE in discovery. There's nothing greater than being ALL IN! I'M GOING IN. I AM in. ARE YOU? Summertime and outdoor BBQ, it seems to be the perfect combination. Whether you like your steak rare, medium, or well done, nothing beats outdoor cooking, with a little sizzle and that juicy steak. What's for dinner? Beef!DialogueA: Que tal grelhar uns bifes hoje à noite? B: Opa, que boa ideia. O você acha, talvez uns contra-filés? A: Claro, eu posso comprar dois bifes grossos no caminho de casa. B: Você checou o nível do gás ultimamente? A: Sem problemas, nós compramos um botijão novo algumas semanas atrás. B: E traga também umas espigas de milho, beleza? A: Pode deixar, bifes e espigas de milho. Tô tão feliz que o verão tá chegando. B: Eu também. Pra mim, botar uma carne na grelha é a refeição perfeita do verão.A: Should we BBQ some steaks tonight? B: Oh, that would be perfect. What do you say, maybe some New York steaks? A: Sure, I can buy a couple of thick ones on the way home. B: Have you checked the propane lately? A: No problem, we bought a new container just a couple of weeks ago? B: And grab some corn on the cob too, OK? A: Got it, steaks and corn on the cob. I'm so glad it's summer time again. B: Me too. For me throwing some steaks on the grill is the perfect summer meal.

You can watch a show on TV and then wait a week for the next episode. Or, you can wait and watch all of the episodes one after another. Binge watching isn’t a waste of time, it’s the best way to really get into the story. In today’s episode we not only love to binge watch, but we love the snacks and ice cream that go with it all too.DialogueA: Você sabe que dia é amanhã? B: Claro, mal posso esperar. A: You remember what tomorrow is? B: Of course, can’t wait. Binge watching time! Bring on the ice cream and treats. A: Nowadays it’s the best way to watch shows, you know? B: Agreed, no commercials, and no waiting a whole week. A: And I especially love being able to get 100% into the story all at once. B: Have you decided yet which show we’re going to watch? A: Let me check my list on Hulu and Netflix. B: Got it, you decide, I’m up for anything, as long as the popcorn keeps flowing.

29 April 2020 Communication & Resilience is Key to A Successful Wealth Distribution In this Episode, we talk why: Having a good and open, and honest communication is Key to A Successful Wealth Distribution Here's a scenario. A successful and wealthy father wanted to give his son a gift that is worth several million dollars. The son, who is a very ambitious and hardworking son, had recently started his own social enterprise start up. He wants to make the world a better place. And, this large sum of money could possibly have made a huge difference in the son's business, potentially change the world and definitely help in his son's standards of living. In this case, what should the father do? Should the father A) give him the money as a gift, or B) Have a conversation of his and his son's wishes, OR C) let the son figure it out himself so that he can go through the required struggles which the dad himself had gone through so that when the rewards that comes with it would be much sweeter? Parents with wealth are often faced with difficult choices as they not only not want to spoil their child, but many also do not want to see them suffering as well. The problem in providing for children arise when givers and recipients do not communicate, the gift becomes a mere transfer of wealth. This transfer of wealth has no meaning, has no spirit, has no education, and certainly does not prepare the recipients to be receiving well. In such situations, a lack of communication for the transfer of wealth not only does not promote growth and enhancements to the recipient's life, but it also affects the recipient's psychic environment and loses its impact. While the giver needs to communicate this gift well, on the other hand, it requires the recipient to be prepared and also to be resilient as an individual. Resilience is the ability to stand back up again when he falls. Resilience is to finish through the difficult path and be creative and find ways to overcome a situation rather than just giving up. Resilience allows the recipient to go into different and new experiences but only if the recipient endures and overcomes the struggles of whatever life throws at him. That is why resilience is a key variable in determining whether recipients will grow or suffer as a result of the rich dad's wealth being passed down. In conclusion, communication needs to happen if the giving is to be received well so that it promotes growth and enhancement for the recipient. And Resilience in the recipient needs to be there to ensure that the recipient can take on the gift and make good use of it, so that the recipient would not feel powerless or have the wrong mindset when handling the gift.

Carrie (@carrie.gillaspie) and Bre (@breanna.was.here) start the show giving their reasoning for why we choose to seek out the spoilers for the Bachelor and other shows and movies. They then touch on the Pilot Pete "drama" and explain why they could care less and still love him. C and B talk briefly about the new information of "windmill-gate", and give their opinions on Peter's viability of being the Bachelor. Bre shares she wanted to barf when Jed came out of the limo with the guitar. The girls are both impressed that Hannah's family had an instinctual bad feeling about Jed from the get-go. Carrie gives her opinion of why Bachelorette's have a better track record of staying with the person they pick, compared to the Bachelor. C and B discuss the importance of a solid foundation of a relationship, and reminisce on being friends with their husbands for a while before they took it to the romantic level. The girls discuss Jed's defense and reasoning for why he did what he did, and both support Hannah's decision to walk away from the relationship. C and B HAVE to chat about Tyler C. and the reunion that happened on stage. Carrie thinks Hannah was a little awkward in asking him out, but also thinks that's what she loves about Hannah. Carrie shares that all of America's obsession with Tyler C, makes her not want to be obsessed with him anymore. C and B take time to mention National Mutt Day, and discuss traits they look for in a leader. Bre asks "what question you hate being asked", and "what was your first first phone". Carrie shares about her new book club and how you can join in! full show notes can be found at: www.carriegillaspie.com

I recall the time went pitching for a piece of business with the one of the world’s leading premium brands. The Managing Director of Europe and I spent nearly 45 minutes talking about one word – Integrity. He asked me what that word meant to me. I explained that from a young age my dad had taught me that you are carefully about your words you say but if you commit to do something - you do it. This was the vital decision making part for this MD. He thought I could best represent their brand. Interestingly after about two weeks of working together someone within his organisation broke their promise of demonstrating integrity. I called him and expressed my disappointment, I thought this was going to be a two-way agreement. His response restored my faith in appropriate business behaviour - he apologized on behalf of the organisation agreed new terms and asked me to forward an invoice even though that work was yet to be completed by me. He walked his talk. I contrast that with recent examples of how some leaders believe is appropriate to behaviour when letting go of ‘no longer needed staff’. Recent case where in one room people are being advised they are about to leave and please take your belongings now. In the very next room a party for a new product launch and a senior leader asking the survivors which top end sports he should buy. Are these leaders: A) Lacking self-awareness? B) Have no humanity? C) Wearing a mask, that makes them LOOK strong and invulnerable? These leaders are missing a trick, such behaviour erodes trust and trust is efficient it is one of the basis of high performance of any team. A new client recently made me blush, he described me a stick of rock. He said “your brand runs through you, you are all joined up, you live the advice you give whether in your book, on-line or in a coaching session.” The key take away from this feedback is that our words, digital footprint and demeanour during human interactions, all need to align. Many people and organisations seem to take a dog is for Christmas approach. Promising the earth initially and then a series of poor service delivery or inconsistency. I believe we have entered a new world in business - the workplace has changed forever. Conventional thinking does not meet the demands of today’s world, it must be challenged as outdated: • Jobs go to the most qualified – no they don’t they go to the most connected. • You get paid what you are worth – no you don’t you get paid what you negotiate. • Highly refined business skills are for the naturally talented – all skills are learnable via deliberate practice. • Companies exclusively own Intellectual Property – we all wake up every day with valuable skills that when systemized form our own IP. • Highest human potential is available only the advantaged elite – we all have far more capacity than we currently demonstrate. World leading Neuroscientist Rick Hanson commented: “On average, about a third of a person’s strengths are innate, built into his or her genetically based temperament, talents, mood and personality. The other two-thirds are developed over time. You get them by growing them.” To me this is wonderful news… My invitation to you is to grow your brand, ask yourself: • What do I stand for? • If struggling with first question, ask What do I stand against? (For me I know I hate bullies and people who abuse their power.) • What do I know is true but conventional wisdom says differently? • How can I test my hunches from question 3 and prove it works? • Now live those truths every day and help others and yourself. Be a first-rate version of yourself rather than being liked for something you are not.

I was asked the question this week: “If you’re not all in, does it mean you shouldn’t be doing it?” This is what I say… A lot of times “should” shows up as a future excuse. It also says, “I’m interested, but not committed.” OR… “I’m doing this for other reasons besides my true heart’s desire.” It’s like saying that ALL IN happens by chance, divine intervention, or destiny. But… YOU get to decide what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. So, my answer includes a few questions... A: Why are you “shoulding” on yourself? B: Have you ever considered that maybe “ALL IN” didn’t necessarily come as a result of the circumstances, but instead, “ALL IN” CREATES the circumstances. C: What does ALL IN look like, really…and what are you ALL IN to? D. Why are you doing IT if you’re NOT ALL IN? Can you relate to this? If so, then... Ask yourself: Is it about circumstance or commitment? If you’re waiting for circumstance to give you power for your commitment, you’re not going to find it. Why? Because, your commitment creates your circumstances. Got it? In order to be ALL IN to anything, you must... -Know your WHY. Why are you doing what you’re doing? Your WHY must be bigger than your WHY NOT. FEAR can also play a role in keeping you from doing what you say you desire to do. - Stay connected to your BIG WHY. -Identify your FEAR, which can become your big WHY NOT. - Be honest with yourself and others. Is your commitment based on a decision, or is your decision based on a commitment? Decisions based on the commitments to your BIG WHY are the ones that are ALL IN. What is your heart crying out? What is it saying to you? What is it (are you) yearning for? - Stop saying you’re ALL IN to what you’re NOT ALL IN to… - Stop saying you “should be”… - Simply focus in on what your heart is leading and guiding you to. AND… - Follow it. Follow it ALL IN to wherever it’s leading you. This is a DISCOVERY. It's an ADVENTURE in discovery. There’s nothing greater than being ALL IN! I’M GOING IN. I AM in. ARE YOU? Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. JOURNAL (Daily Action To Engage yourself.) TODAY’S SACRED S.O.L. STEP: Take a look at your life right now — at anything that you keep saying you want to do…or "I’m gonna do that"…but for whatever reason, you’re NOT ALL IN. Begin to write in your journal about it. Allow your heart to show and tell you. To lead you into truth about why you’re not doing it. And more importantly, WHAT you really desire to do…and WHY. 节目名称:Screen Age 荧屏时代节目主题:David Fincher& David LynchL: Hey Guys! It's time for the Screen Age. I'm your old friend, Lynn!B: Well, Lynn. Why are you so exited today.L: Because the film Murder on the Orient Express is going to be on the Chinese mainland. You know, I'm a stan of thriller. I've been waiting for it since the last year.B: Take it easy. I think that you would be interested in the director, David Fincher. He is the master of thriller. It's just your cup of tea.L: Yeah, I know him. Some of his films are really classical. However, I mistake him with another famous director, David Lynch sometimes.B: They are similar in some way indeed. And today, Let's just introduce David Fincher and David Lynch to our audiences.L: That's cool!L: David Fincher was born in Colorado Denver of America, whereas, he grew up in California. When he was 18, he worked for Korty--a film company. Later, he changed his job several times. Till three other directors built up Propaganda with him in 1987, he turned his way to directing films.C: Oh, I get a little about what you said. Before his company had been built up, he has directed many advertisement with lots of famous brands: Coca Cola, Pepsi, Levis, Chanel and so on. And he also has cooperated with numerous well known singers, including Sting, Michael Jackson.L: Yeah, you&`&re right. And on no account can we overlook his biggest character as a director, do you know that?C: The biggest character? I think it is his unique directing style. Because what he really think most is the realism of human nature and society. Right?L: You are right. Due to this point, his films are always popular, I suppose.C:That's it.L: Now, let&`&s learn about his films in detail.B: Fincher&`&s work, except "Alien 3", more familiar is "Seven Crimes" in 1996 (also known as "FireWire Chase Order") and "Fight Club" in 1999. In "Se7en", David Fincher shows the talent of a black thriller and cooperates with photographer, to create a detective films that are fascinating in both image and plot. The seven great Sins of the Old Testament: gluttony, lust, laziness, pride, greed, anger, jealousy ... S: Of course, chaos and darkness are the keynote of the film. The director said he deliberately emphasized the boldness of the uncoordinated. New York is filled with moisture, graffiti, and dark corners, and becomes the best place to interpret psychopathic murders. B: The plot is more difficult to get rid of the old mechanism, is still a fresh-blooded new detective cooperate with a old, stable, experienced police. Combat difficult criminals. But the layout of the story and the handling of the conflict are pretty good. It is a good-looking and style detective film.S: However, more exciting is the next work "Fight Club". This is a description of the people who divide the mind, the evil leader of a group of people, to fight each other as the emotional catharsis of the film, not only shows the modern people face the oppression of life, but also revealed that the brutal nature of the confusion will be confused, step by step to the destruction of the hidden worries, for the nature of modern society has a very good warning role.I: Only the subject is very innovative and interesting, and the director of imagination and the wild is also quite aware of convergence, so that the film in the logic and knowledge of experience can be resonance, the view of chilling. However, the director still does not forget the power of rational and love redemption, the drama and The Strange Woman&`&s love, faint become the later male lead reason awakening motivation, it is the most important meaning for the film.B: Like the Seven sins, the Fight Club has been criticized for its violence by some cheap critics. But it is in some ways a serious discussion of the difference between meaningful violence and senseless violence, making these attacks a slap in the face.I: The film&`&s Mirror is smooth and fast, the plot is strong and powerful, a runaway atmosphere full of splitting, tightly clasped the hearts of the viewer. In addition to the "Guess Train", "Tai Pin code", for the lens language application is very good work. "Fight Club" more than the connotation of "seven crimes", the form of use and depth beyond the general Hollywood film.L: It could be said that if David Fincher is a genius, David Lynch could be a lunatic. As a famous American director, who is addicted to the coffee, he made his own brand of coffee. He is the representative figure of the American non-mainstream film industry contemporary. Although he is in the Hollywood, he develops a school of his own. His film is famous for the gorgeous, gloomy and strange style with his black humor.SH: He grew up in the bottom of the society in Philadelphia. He lived in the dark side of citizens&`& life. The violent and corrupt he met has made a great influence on him. Although he is getting on for seventy years old, he has been devoting himself to reappear the nightmare in people's pallium. L: He is so remarkable that he reveals the trauma which we do not want to face with his imagination. I am just a ordinary person like anyone else, he said, our greatest fear is from the death. It's the source of the fear itself.SH: In the 1977, Lynch inspired his Philadelphia life, created the 5-year-old horror film "Rubber Head". In this film, he showed his fear and anxiety to the dark side of society from a father&`&s point of view and surrealism.D: Thanks to the famous producer Ben Barennoz's efforts to finally be released, and a shot of popularity, has been widely affirmed in the commentary field, he pushed on the surreal film production at the forefront.SH: The success of "Rubber Head" attracted attention of the famous director Mel Brooks. In 1980, he invited Lynch to direct the drama "Elephant Man", the first mainstream film of Lynch&`&s creation. Tells the story of a distorted head-shaped "Elephant Man" John Merrick in British society in the 19th century. D: In 1984, Lynch directed the action sci-fi "Dune" for Dino De Laurentis, adapted from Frank Herbert's "Dune" series of science fiction. At the pinnacle of his career, Lynch gave up the big screen film, and in 1990 he launched a music video "Heartbreak Dream" with longtime partner-composer Angelo-Dalmonti. In the same year, he filmed his most successful ABC TV series "Twin Peaks".L: Later, Lynch launched his 5th film, "My Heart Is Wild," and the next few years, he disappeared from people&`&s view. In addition to a 1994-year photo album, there are five of years, people can not hear any news about him. He changed his familiar bizarre themes, directing the road Plot "The Straight Story". More than one person commented: "David Lynch is back." L: That's all for today's program. Hope you enjoy it. I think I won't confuse them anymore.B: Have a nice evening.
