Have you ever felt physically sick before a difficult conversation? Or spent days rehearsing what to say, only to walk away wishing you'd said it differently? You're not alone — and you're not weak for feeling that way. In Part 5 of our series “Leadership Struggles Women Don't Talk About,” we're talking about a topic many female Christian leaders quietly wrestle with:

Rika Nakazawa is a firm believer in the magic of the universe. That magic, according to Rika, comes from something she calls organic intelligence. This week on Catalyst, Tammy sits down with Rika, the Chief Commercial Innovation Officer at NTT, to discuss the future of innovation, sustainability and space technology. Rika explains how this concept of organic intelligence can help shift the way people think about resource management, energy efficiency and Artificial Intelligence. She also shares some of the research she's doing in the world of space and satellite technology - could data centers in space be the next big thing!? This is Part 1 of a multi-part series, shared as part of Career Conversations Week. The views expressed here are my own and don't reflect those of my employer. TL;DR: Building an EA-aligned career starting from an LMIC comes with specific challenges that shaped how I think about career planning, especially around constraints: Everyone has their own "passport"—some structural limitation that affects their career more than their abilities. Reframing these from unfair barriers to data about my specific career path has helped me a lot. When pursuing an ideal career path, it's easy to fixate on what should be possible rather than what actually is. But those idealized paths often require circumstances you don't have—whether personal (e.g., visa status, financial safety net) or external (e.g., your dream org hiring, or a stable funding landscape). It might be helpful to view the paths that work within your actual constraints [...] ---Outline:(00:21) TL;DR:(01:27) Introduction(02:25) My EA journey so far(03:18) Sometimes my passport mattered more than my competencies, and thats okay(04:43) Everyone has their own passport(06:19) Realistic opportunities often outweigh idealistic ones(08:04) Importance of a fail-safe(08:37) Playing the long game(09:44) Adversity quotient seems underrated(10:13) Building resilience through adversity(11:22) Pivot into recruiting(12:11) Building AQ over time(14:02) Why AQ matters in EA-aligned work(15:01) Closing thoughts--- First published: July 28th, 2025 Source: https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/3Hh839MaiWCPzyB3M/building-an-ea-aligned-career-from-an-lmic --- Narrated by TYPE III AUDIO. ---Images from the article:Apple Podcasts and Spotify do not show images in the episode description.

This week joe sat down with rising pro wrestling star Rika Wildlee, also known as “The Barker of the Bizarre.” He shared how his dream of becoming a professional wrestler started at just 8 years old — and how he's spent the last four years grinding to make that dream a reality. We talked about his journey from training at the UWE Pro Wrestling Academy of Alexandria to now teaching the next generation of talent at the same school. Rika opened up about his recent success in the ring, including becoming the SWF Heavyweight Champion and one-half of the RWE Tag Team Champions alongside Athan Sorrow . He also gave us a look into his signature finishing moves, how different wrestlers bring different techniques to the ring, and what it was like performing at the legendary ICP Gathering of the Juggalos. From small-town beginnings to championship gold, this episode captures the raw grit, passion, and personality behind one of Louisiana's highly entertaining rising stars.

Drawing from her personal experience navigating the U.S. health care system as a child refugee and her professional practice working with underserved, immigrant, and unhoused populations, Dr. Win speaks candidly about the mental health toll of displacement, family separation, and systemic barriers to care. She shares how screening for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), implementing trauma-informed protocols, and creating community-based support systems can break generational cycles of trauma and behavioral health challenges, and support family healing. From pediatric patients navigating life without deported parents to her pilot work establishing mindfulness and parenting support groups in shelters, Dr. Win details the practical interventions and policy shifts needed to make behavioral health more accessible and responsive. Her passionate advocacy for refugee and immigrant mental health — coupled with her call for self-care and sustainability among providers — offers invaluable insights for nurses, mental health professionals, and policymakers alike. As part of Season 5's Nurse the Future theme, this conversation spotlights the essential leadership role psychiatric nurses play in reshaping behavioral health systems for a more equitable and inclusive tomorrow. Tune in for a powerful conversation that highlights the enduring strength of refugee families, the transformative power of culturally informed psychiatric care, and the critical responsibility nurses carry in building futures—one success story at a time. Nurses can earn free Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credits for listening to this episode. Full details will be announced at the end of the season.
