Tariffs are starting to feed into consumer prices; however, falling energy and food costs are offsetting the increase to some degree. In this episode of Research Recap, chief global economist Bruce Kasman and head of U.S. Inflation Strategy Phoebe White unpack the numbers from the July CPI report. Will we see further tariff pass-through in the coming months? What are the implications for the Fed? And what does the inflation picture look like across the rest of the globe?  This episode was recorded on August 12, 2025.  This communication has been prepared based upon information from sources believed to be reliable, but J.P. On the afternoon of March 24, 2006, an employee at a moving truck rental company in Ohio opened his desk drawer and grabbed a wad of cash. It had been a slow day, so the employee was using his downtime to organize a few recent payments. The money he'd just grabbed was from an all-cash deal that had happened a few days ago. At the time, the employee had been super busy, so he'd just taken the cash from the customer, flipped through it quickly to make sure the amount seemed right, then shoved the money in the drawer to deal with later. Now, he was actually counting it properly – and he really hoped the customer hadn't shorted him, or he'd have to track them down to collect. But as the employee counted the bills, he paused. Not because the amount wasn't right – but because there was something on the money that caught his attention. For a second, he wasn't sure what it was. So, he looked closer. And then, all at once, he understood what he was seeing. He stopped counting the money and started flipping through it as quickly as he could – and he kept seeing the same thing on almost all the bills. With his heart racing, the employee dropped the money, grabbed the phone, and called the police. For 100s more stories like these, check out our main YouTube channel just called "MrBallen" -- https://www.youtube.com/c/MrBallenIf you want to reach out to me, contact me on Instagram, Twitter or any other major social media platform, my username on all of them is @mrballenSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

If you've ever worked in a nonprofit and found yourself fronting expenses on your personal credit card, you're not alone—and you're definitely not doing it wrong. But there's a better way. Our host sat down with GiveFront.com , to unpack how nonprofits can modernize the way they manage spending, reimbursements, and financial oversight.Founder of GiveFront, Matt Tengtrakool, brings a unique dual lens to the discussion: one from years of hands-on experience running and managing nonprofit finances, and another from building financial technology designed specifically for the sector. His message is clear—nonprofits deserve modern tools to track spending, reduce fraud risk, streamline compliance, and eliminate burdensome reimbursement systems. He explains that many organizations still operate with a single credit card passed around among staff—a system ripe for errors, delays, and a lack of accountability. GiveFront provides an alternative: customizable, trackable virtual cards that make it easy for even volunteers to make approved purchases. “You want to allow people to spend for your organization, but you also want control,” Matt explains. “And having the systems set up from the start is extremely important.”The conversation covers common friction points between program teams and finance departments, shedding light on how better spend management can actually strengthen relationships across departments. Host Julia Patrick and Matt explore the psychological side of transparency, the real costs of missing receipts, and the ripple effects of poor policy enforcement.Matt also shares how sales tax refunds—often ignored due to their complexity—can recapture up to 10% of an organization's spending. With GiveFront's built-in tools, nonprofits in states like North Carolina and Utah can automatically generate sales tax refund documentation without drowning in paperwork. The episode wraps with practical advice: adopt a spend management platform, train your team on internal financial policies, and revisit those policies regularly. Because managing money well isn't just about spreadsheets—it's about trust, clarity, and making sure every dollar does the most good. 00:00:00 Introduction and Matt's background 00:01:27 Why reimbursements are outdated 00:03:15 Volunteer spending made easier 00:05:12 How nonprofits currently use credit cards 00:06:36 Digital wallets and virtual cards 00:07:38 Receipt tracking and compliance challenges 00:10:01 The hidden cost of $10 transactions 00:10:55 Fraud prevention and virtual card use 00:13:17 Bridging the gap between finance and programs 00:17:56 Sales tax refunds and real savings 00:22:00 Policy clarity and spend management best practices  #TheNonprofitShow #SpendManagement #NonprofitFinance Find us Live daily on YouTube!Find us Live daily on LinkedIn!Find us Live daily on X: @Nonprofit_ShowOur national co-hosts and amazing guests discuss management, money and missions of nonprofits! 12:30pm ET 11:30am CT 10:30am MT 9:30am PTSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

Receipt of addiction treatment after nonfatal opioid overdose and risk of subsequent overdose: A retrospective cohort study Drug and Alcohol Dependence People who experience a nonfatal opioid overdose are at increased risk of subsequent overdose but is also a potential moment to intervene. In this cohort study, they used statewide data from Connecticut to assess differences in overdose outcomes in the year following a nonfatal overdose by treatment type received. Overall, 56% of patients received no treatment, while 35% received medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) (25% buprenorphine and 11% methadone) and 21% received inpatient treatment (detox and/or extended inpatient). Both methadone (aHR=0.41) and buprenorphine (aHR=072) were associated with decrease in subsequent overdose, whereas neither detox nor prolonged inpatient treatment were associated with decreased overdose. These findings further support the importance of MOUD and the need to increase access to treatment in this high-risk population.   Read this issue of the ASAM Weekly Subscribe to the ASAM Weekly Visit ASAM

Happy Resurrection Sunday! This week, we come together to celebrate the most pivotal event in human history—the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is not just a day of tradition or remembrance; it is the foundation of our faith and the source of our greatest hope. Because the tomb is empty, despair no longer has the final word over our lives. The resurrection proves that sin and death have been conquered, and through Christ, we have the promise of new life. At each of our five services, we will explore how this single event transformed the world, turning a small movement outside Jerusalem into a faith that has touched millions across the centuries. We will see how the resurrection stands as the defining moment of Christianity. Paul himself declared that if Christ had not been raised, our faith would be in vain (1 Corinthians 15:17). The early enemies of Jesus would have done anything to disprove the resurrection, yet they could not produce His dead body. Instead, His followers, who had once been fearful, became bold witnesses, willing to die rather than deny what they had seen. The resurrection was not just an inspiring event; it was the proof of Jesus' victory over sin and death. It was God's receipt confirming that the price for our sins had been paid in full. This truth doesn't just shape our theology; it transforms our lives. As we reflect on this, I want to challenge you to consider where you stand with Jesus. The resurrection is not just a historical claim; it is an invitation to new life. If you have never placed your trust in Him, this Sunday could be the day of your own spiritual resurrection. And for those who already follow Christ, let's remember that Easter isn't just a moment to celebrate, it's a call to live in resurrection power. Just as Jesus sent His disciples into the world with this message, He calls us to go and share this good news with others. I look forward to celebrating with you - He is risen indeed!

Jesus Tells Us that “Eternal Life” Begins Immediately Upon Receipt of the Holy Spirit, Even Before Your “Physical Death” MESSAGE SUMMARY:  Jesus has promised “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16b). In John 5:24, Jesus tells you that when you receive the Spirit during your earthly life, your eternal life has begun in your earthly life even before your physical death: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”. Also, in John 6:40, Jesus promises: “this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”. What is eternal life? In John 17:2b-3, Jesus defines eternal life: “since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”. Therefore, eternal life is the ability to know God and to have an intimate personal relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe. When you come into your belief in Jesus and confess your sins to God, then Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Spirit; and you begin your new life and service in His kingdom. Also, remember that when you receive the Spirit, your eternal life has begun even before your physical death.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, everything in me resists following you into the garden of Gethsemane to fall on my face to the ground before you. Grant me the courage to follow you all the way to the cross, whatever that might mean for my life. And then, by your grace, lead me to resurrection life and power. In Jesus' name, amen.   Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 100). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, Nothing compares with knowing Jesus. (Phil. 3:7). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): John 6:40; John 5:24; John 17:2b-3; Psalms 72a:1-10. A WORD FROM THE LORD WEBSITE: www.AWFTL.org.
